Not sure how this page will end up, just exploring what I can do. Don't want it to be blank though, so I'll start with some random templates and images that I find when looking around the wiki, and some ramblings about myself - just to fill the space not cos I think anyone cares ;)

Zaishen Weapons.pngGW History

I have been around internet gaming for many years (perhaps some may have known me as Custodian on Wireplay, BarrysWorld/FreddysHouse, Multiplay, etc). We discovered GW during the open Beta weekends at the end of 2004. Then one of us (Mori) won an ANet competition (with a poem inspired by our Beta Weekend adventures) and gained access to the GW Alpha Test at the end of 2004, and then arranged an invite for myself to join in Jan 2005.

I spent the next 3 years in the Alpha, was there till they formally closed it for good after Eye of the North was released. So I took part in testing for all campaigns and even got myself a mention, along side several other long serving testers, in the end game credits and manual for Nightfall - an honour I am pretty proud of. I clocked in thousands of hours on the test servers, and enjoyed every minute of it.

Meanwhile, the first campaign had gone live in April 2005. So I was now racking up the hours on both live and test servers. If I wasn't sleeping or working I was logged on to a GW server!

When the founder of the House Behelit guild quit (created during the last open Beta before live, and then we all decided to join it to speed up guild creation in the early days) I was voted in as Guild Leader. However, it was soon apparent to me that although I was spending much time playing on live I was still so busy with testing I was not contributing anything beyond being there. So I stepped down and promoted my former Alpha colleague, who had now left the Alpha test, to Guild Leader.

Although I have dabbled in PvP, both in testing and on live, I do not usually enjoy it as much as PvE. I am not interested in being better than everyone else, and certainly do not enjoy the verbal abuse, leeching, quitting, and all that sort of stuff that seems sadly all too common in PvP games. I much prefer playing cooperatively with people, joining up to have fun together.

Update October 2009:-
Anet have seen fit to invite me back for more testing, on this new Test Krewe. Have posted my NDA in - though technically I am already subject to it as it reads the same as the last one I signed :)
Looking forward to seeing what they have planned this time around.

Update ... later
In the end I was part of the volunteer testing teams (Alpha, Closed Beta, Test Krewe - all the flavours) for 7 years. I finally stopped after GW2 went live in 2012, when they stopped doing content for GW1 so didn't need the extra testers. I was invited to join the closed GW2 testing a couple of times, but had decided to take a break and perhaps try discovering GW2 alongside my Guildmates this time, rather than having already seen it all in testing. I spent many years playing GW2 with them. I came back to GW1 when I found myself with time on my hands and an old laptop to use - GW1 played just fine being now so old itself. I had 2 GWAMM chars (Beta & Mental) when we stopped playing GW1, so thought I'd get a couple more (Alpha & Delta) to that level. Still love the game, and the memories it now carries from all those years.
Is 4 GWAMMs enough? Or do I get Legendary playing again...

P.S. I wonder what could be achieved in life with 9500 hours of effort...

Made a picture gallery of places I have been and things I have seen, as there is so much good to look at in this game.
