Wait, I'm confused, what did Jette do that was worthy of a 3 day ban? And by that, I mean comparatively to the last few days of drama butt-fucking itself all over this wiki. He gets a 3 day ban for being hilarious and people with the emotional maturity of a 12 year old's twat get nothing for causing all kinds of e-drama? Everyone say it with me: "WTF?" Karate Jesus 16:34, 30 October 2009 (UTC)
(Reset indent) Yay, okay, let's not do that. NuVII 16:38, 30 October 2009 (UTC)
- Eh, sorry. What KJ said is true however, how exactly did that work? Shadow Runner 16:39, 30 October 2009 (UTC)
- I'm tempted to say biases. From looking at the contribs of Jette and others for the last 15 mins, that's all I can figure out. But apparently whatever it was it was worth 3 days versus Zesbeer's 12 hour ban and Ariyen and Pika Fan's
banmultiple warnings. Karate Jesus 16:43, 30 October 2009 (UTC)- I'm guessing Aiiane blocked Jette because he continued to make disruptive comments, e.g. stuff like this and this, which would only escalate ongoing problems. Jette's also shown a tendency for this kind of disruption, as can be seen in his previous blocks and given as a reason in Aiiane's block summary. Maybe she's just treating the cases as separate cases, as some more important to prevent than others at this current time, or as some which are over or don't need further administrative intervention. Or maybe she was just around for this issue, and not for the others. I don't think she's biased towards or against any of these users, and I can't really find anything convincing to support such a bias.
- By the by, do you really think the comments weren't worthy of a block? Does the hilarity factor make any difference whatsoever? Do you really think you should be attacking other people when you're commenting on what's worthy of a ban and what's not? -- pling 17:50, 30 October 2009 (UTC)
- "By the by, do you really think the comments weren't worthy of a block? - Pling"
- "And by that, I mean comparatively to the last few days of drama butt-fucking itself all over this wiki. - KJ"
- I love it when I can answer a question by quoting myself. Oh, and lol @ trying to label my comments as personal attacks. I meant biases in general (other admins being biased towards Ariyen [which was obvious], Zesbeer, etc. And Aiiane [?] not giving a fuck either way). Karate Jesus 17:57, 30 October 2009 (UTC)
- "people with the emotional maturity of a 12 year old's twat" hokay. -- pling 18:04, 30 October 2009 (UTC)
- And please, tell me who I meant by that other than the general userbase. Go ahead. Karate Jesus 18:08, 30 October 2009 (UTC)
- Considering you go on to compare this case with that of Zesbeer, Aryien, and Pika Fan, plus the fact you've already voiced your objection to the lack of action in the latter drama, I'm guessing them. Though even if you were just referring to the general userbase, it's not any less of an attack upon them. Nevertheless, I digress. -- pling 18:15, 30 October 2009 (UTC)

(Reset indent) I agree with KJ. While Jette did write some... controversial edits, he also made many good ones (too lazy to link). While I don't scream "BIAS BIAS", it seems rather odd that Zesbeer did that and maybe more, and got his 24 hour ban shortened to 14 at the end; even if he was unblocked in a controversial way. While the blocks of time passed do count, a year or so is a lot of time, and 3 days are in this case too. It's not like Jette continuously spammed trollish comments like many other users do without being touched. Again, I'm not screaming "BIAS BIAS", but it does seem a little off and fishy. Titani Ertan 18:26, 30 October 2009 (UTC)
- Just to point out, I wasn't intending to make out any one specific person as "biased". What I was suggesting is that Jette has been viewed as trollish in the past and was instantly given a 3 day ban. Ariyen, Pika, Zesbeer, and whoever else I mentioned have wiki-friends who are bcrats and admins. All I'm saying. Karate Jesus 18:30, 30 October 2009 (UTC)
- Next time I'm banned, give me a 3 day ban too, I'm sick of 1 week bans :O - Wuhy 22:47, 30 October 2009 (UTC)

Remembering IP addresses[edit]
Discover Card's online banking does something similar. To begin, you set up your standard three questions, (the "what's your favorite food", and so on). If you log in from a location that is not recognized, you're asked to answer one of those questions, and then if that location is one you'll be logging in from frequently. Might cut down on this type of liquidation hack, and not be too inconvenient even for people like Wyn that play from multiple locations, especially if it's a small list. -- FreedomBound 12:37, 8 November 2009 (UTC)
- Most places that "remember" IP addresses don't allocate server resources to actually remember the IP, they just use cookies. Delete all the cookies on your computer to test if you want. ··· Danny Pew Pew 20:46, 10 November 2009 (UTC)
- Would that preclude GW from doing something similar? -- FreedomBound 22:54, 10 November 2009 (UTC)
- Using cookies would be pretty pointless, seeing as how the entire idea is to prevent people who you do not know from raping your account. –Jette 23:33, 10 November 2009 (UTC)
- "Most places that "remember" IP addresses [...] just use cookies." - bullshit. Nearly every server in the internet stores a log, containing your IP, browser information, the actual access time and the path you opened - and being it only used for statistical research, your IP is still saved for some weeks. poke | talk 08:11, 11 November 2009 (UTC)
- Well, I'll be damned. Captain Obvious strikes again. I mean, it's not like I don't work in server administration or anything like that. The point I was making is that IPs are relatively unreliable, unless you can convince your ISP to give you a static one, and that using a cookie for identification means that they don't have to keep track of which IP relates to which user, which, and I hope I'm pointing out the obvious here, becomes problematic because the server storing that information would require intense security. ··· Danny Pew Pew 19:01, 11 November 2009 (UTC)

- For the lulz, ofc. It's cooler to kill an invincible monster than just kill a normal one that keeps it alive. I haven't confirmed this in-game, but I think any skill that provides regen over 10 will break the limit, the same way normal skills that go over limits, like Ritual Lord, will still work. Either way, BAMPH! provides 20 regen to the caster when it's used, so even if I'm wrong, it's still working as intended. –Jette 01:31, 17 November 2009 (UTC)

- It's a feedback page, not a user page, so it should be the same as any other wiki talk page. I didn't look at all of the conversations archived, but I noticed that one of them was regarding the skill update's timing. That conversation is no longer active or necessary (since we've been told when it will (not) be taking place). -- FreedomBound 19:08, 22 December 2009 (UTC)

- Cleaning blood from clothes is actually extremely annoying. While it's somewhat cool to remove the coagulated patches that form once you have really a lot of blood, the remaining stains are hard to take away without decoloring a bit your clothes. The only good thing is how old blood eventually takes a brown aspect that makes most people not realize it's blood, so you can just pretend you got dirty with something else. Erasculio 13:58, 1 January 2010 (UTC)
- Cleaning blood is a difficult process. Bleach usually works after a few times, but that won't stand up to forensics (YEEEEEEEEEEEEAAAAAAAAAAAAH). Your best bet is to just not bother making any bloodstains, which is pretty easy to do by simply shooting the victim in the head and removing the bullet afterward. You should also burn any clothes and other accessories immediately after a murder so there's no chance of them being discovered. Remember to vacuum the target's home before you leave (use their own vacuum and take the bag), and don't kill anyone who you have any connection with or whose death would benefit you. –Jette 18:23, 1 January 2010 (UTC)
- Also, you could avoid ballistics by buying a shotgun in secret, years prior. Wear ankle weights so the footprints don't match your body weight. Wear a chicken suit just in case. Your comments were some of the few actually worth reading and put elegantly enough that even discussions initiated on the least formed of ideas gained at least some headway. Okay, so maybe you were over-the-top at times, but it stood out only for your having a command over the language you were trolling with (versus half of the GWwiki-going base that doesn't seem able to formulate a grammatically-correct sentence). Now the awesomeface is gone from your signature and it's obvious you're deliberately modifying you're writing. Have you seen[edit]
this? -- Armond Warblade{{Bacon}} 15:18, 14 April 2010 (UTC)
- I've posted on and off on this site for more than two and a half years, but does anyone actually know me? I may have been somewhat misleading, because I am not what I appear to be. I don't imagine this comes as a surprise to anyone; someone who acted in real life the way I do online would more than likely be shot. But unlike the legions of marginally intelligent socially maladroit dullards collected on sites like this, I have some degree of taste and can, if nothing else, refrain from dropping food from my mouth over the dinner table.
- I waste my time here not out of some ill-conceived notion that I could help any of the people gathered here, but because the internet provides a unique sort of release for people like me: I am not restrained by social stigmata or a need to conceal my mannerisms or behavior, because of the thin layer of anonymity provided by the internet.
- That is not to say it lets me "be who I want to be," because there is no such thing. I am not so much a person as an ephemeral force, the inevitable reaction caused by the action of my former personhood. I have my tastes and preferences, I can regurgitate the same political opinions the rest of my so-called peers do, and perhaps on some level you and I might even "connect," sharing perhaps some penchant for cabernet sauvignon or Armani business suits, but there is no real me. I am, at best, an abstraction, a vague concept that floats around in the back of the mind but is never truly realized, or even understood.
- The most I can be is some sort of awkward coagulation of notions that have been directed at me, a thin crust floating on the top of a mental state whose presence is likely the strongest argument against the existence of a loving God.
- Online, I'm an outgoing, laid-back, sociable sort who cares more about having fun than perfect order or the authority of others. Online, I crack jokes and make fun of other people's mistakes, like everyone else. I think I've gotten good enough at pretending to be normal that sometimes I can even fool myself. But the reality is, I'm the most cold-hearted son of a bitch you'll ever meet. –Jette 17:00, 14 April 2010 (UTC)

- Thanks for the link. I went ahead and downloaded the entire Ranger series and I found out what the problem was: Bestial Mauling (found on page 3, slot 1) and Savage Pounce (found on page 7, slot 2) both share the same image.

- I remember having some trouble with a number of skills, yes. A few were extremely difficult to find, I had to search the Japanese website for a few (this was difficult, as I do not read Japanese). Some of them are still absent, I gave up on getting into contact with the artists some time ago. ANet has been unresponsive as well. You're welcome to try, however; I believe the concept art for a number of skill icons can be found in a thread here. I e-mailed a number of the artists, but received no reply. –Jette 02:18, 26 April 2010 (UTC)

Replace texture from file[edit]
I've started making mods for texmod recently, and , isn't working for me; is it just me, or does it simply not work?
Thanks bunches. is for Raine, etc. 20:27, 28 April 2010 (UTC)
- Well, I've done a couple (horrible) mods, but I might be able to help a little. It what way does it not work for starters?--/ u /nendingfear File:User Unendingfear Avatar.png 20:49, 28 April 2010 (UTC)
- You're going to have to explain what's supposed to be happening and what's actually happening, and preferably what you've done so far. –Jette 22:43, 28 April 2010 (UTC)
- According to the instructions &whatnot, you should be able to press , to "replace texture from file" while in logging mode. I'm assuming that that would reload the selected texture, allowing you to see exactly what your changes would look like. Instead, it does... nothing.
- If it would work as (presumably) intended, it could save tons of "package build" -> "run guildwars again" time. is for Raine, etc. 23:07, 28 April 2010 (UTC)

I enjoy you highly[edit]
Your edits, your humor: I enjoy them quite highly. :) I know your sense of this site and relations between users probably will seek to undermine the statement, but I like you. In fact, in presenting the idea of an online-based Ethnography for my thesis (e.g., my user page), I used a few of your edits as demonstrations to the English board to convince them that the (sometimes) extraordinary nature these interactions can develop into were worth study; this was a guilty pleasure, as I essentially was presenting vulgarity yet still building a study around it. So suffice to say, I want to thank you, indirectly at least, and I suppose you should let me know if you'd like to not be referred to as 'Jette' if you also wouldn't mind remaining a subject of research. -- Oiseau | 07:25, 5 May 2010 (UTC)
- So what, you want me to drop the F-bomb in front of your English professor? Yeah, alright, I guess can do that. –Jette 07:32, 5 May 2010 (UTC)
- I'm not shoplifting candy. It's not an empty gesture, done for its own sake. You represent the anonymity of the internet's power to construct a counter-culture, to me. -- Oiseau | 16:35, 5 May 2010 (UTC)

I wanted to use a pillow fort, but they said a pillow fort would offer only minimal protect from radiation. As it turns out, though, all the lead paint on my walls makes my entire house a perfect fallout shelter anyway. I keep a secret stash of orange sunshine in there so I can just zone out while I wait for the rescue workers, but don't tell anyone, okay? –Jette 02:36, 6 May 2010 (UTC)

Hey... whats with the "...in some Puerto Rican hellhole" comment? (in http://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/User_talk:Regina_Buenaobra#GW2) Took that personally... :'( --Nekki 19:32, 20 May 2010 (UTC)

- I could have just as easily said Mexican hellhole or Jamaican hellhole, or even American hellhole, but that sounds weird because America's health inspectors are notoriously difficult to bribe if your bathrooms look like that one room out of Saw. The point was that they were in some seedy, run-down bar doing coke off of nasty-ass public toilet seats, and the comment was not intended to be an attack on Puerto Rico or those of Puerto Rican descent, except perhaps those who visit creepy bars. –Jette 19:41, 20 May 2010 (UTC)
Boss Auras[edit]
Would you happen to know how to get a boss aura for your own character in game? If so, how do you do it and what are the potential risks? All I want to do is get some screen shots of my chars with boss auras and I plan on pushing the issue with anet to try to force them to give us a clear answer on BAN POLICY regarding such methods instead of just saying "well you might get hacked and umm yeah". Ƹ̵̡Ӝ̵̨̄Ʒ аІiсә ѕνәи Ƹ̵̡Ӝ̵̨̄Ʒ 20:24, 27 May 2010 (UTC)
- This might come across as a stupid question, but do you really expect a "clear answer" from them because you took a screenshot of yourself with a boss glow? — Why 22:40, 27 May 2010 (UTC)
- No. If we present the method of how one would go about getting a boss aura, and go to Anet and ask "Will you ban us for this?", it should be a yes or no answer barring the mention of third party programs possibly breaking your computer or something. Ƹ̵̡Ӝ̵̨̄Ʒ аІiсә ѕνәи Ƹ̵̡Ӝ̵̨̄Ʒ 23:49, 27 May 2010 (UTC)
- No, I don't know how. I don't associate with the websites that distribute those kinds of programs. I doubt ANet would ban you for using them if all you're doing is taking a screenshot with a boss aura, but you never know. You are pretty likely to get your account stolen, though, judging from the program's origin. –Jette 07:10, 28 May 2010 (UTC)

Someone should really do something about Linsey's talk page. It's been locked down for 7 months with no changes. Rogueonion 05:50, 20 June 2010 (UTC)
- I hate playing with other people too, mostly because they're bad and can't spell. Anyway, your principal problem here appears to be that you're relying on an inefficient healer with precious little energy management and a lot of expensive skills, a protection monk who can't actually protect and a mesmer whose first instinct is to run up and melee people with Blackout. Most of the bars aren't actually that bad, but they all have the critical flaw of relying upon good judgment, a trait which the AI terribly lacks. My advice is to switch to a simple Discord build. It's lame and gimmicky, but that's what GW is about these days anyway. –Jette 06:46, 20 June 2010 (UTC)
- Discord is not the answer, I refuse to have everybody spamming the same skill sorry, thats pretty lame <no offense. and I've modified the builds, but i'm still getting completely wiped by one mesmer. I cannot get my warrior past Lovisa in the WiK crap and honestly man, I do not think guild wars intends for us to play melee anymore. they WANT us to go caster thats the point of all this bs, add to that I am using henchmen which are never good anyway. I am mostly disappointed that everyone I know sticks me as their monk because then NEED the help then when it becomes my turn they are all too very busy to help my warrior. So much for a cooperative game. But if you are on right now hit me up and I will show you what I am currently using, Rogueonion 06:55, 20 June 2010 (UTC)

- What is with these people and their big heads? I do not understand why they feel it is necessary to insult somebody, THEN expect THAT same somebody they insulted to show them respect, this is a huge problem in online gaming, and this is why a truly cooperative game will never exist, not you, just annoyed at the general stupidity of people who do not get it. Rogueonion 04:11, 21 June 2010 (UTC)
- No, the problem in online gaming is people who think that they can complain about random things, not back any of their claims up with actual examples, then instead of bringing examples into the discussion when asked, complain about everyone being elitist or mean. You have not listed one reason anything you've said might be even remotely true, and I'd almost bet money that your next post will also be lacking. ~Shard 04:28, 21 June 2010 (UTC)

- be polite I did not come here to talk to you, this not only is rude to jette, but to me as well, go read my user page regarding mesmers and stop spamming my posts on jette's page k?
- He has a point, though. I've linked you to a build which is perfectly capable of steamrolling normal mode White Mantle mobs. The build is lame, but so is any build that will work in today's environment. You don't want to use a lame build and you get stomped using a normal build, so I'm not sure what else there is to tell you, other than that you should probably look for a game where skillful play is more prevalent. –Jette 05:41, 21 June 2010 (UTC)
- Yes you are right you did link to me a gimmick build, and that build to me is the epitome of what guild wars keeps nerfing, the abuse of 1 skill to steamroll through something. So, if I follow my gut, and everybody starts using that build, then whats next on the nerf list? Rogueonion 06:10, 21 June 2010 (UTC)
- Everyone has been using it for months. Probably more than a year by now, I don't keep track of time on GW as I only rarely play it. –Jette 06:34, 21 June 2010 (UTC)

(Reset indent) Rather than continue debating on the wiki, I dusted off my warrior and went through two areas. The first was North Kryta Province, the second was the Black Curtain and the beginning of Kessex Peak.
I ran the following bars:
Earth Shaker | Crude Swing | Whirlwind Attack | Crushing Blow | "For Great Justice!" | Flail | Lion's Comfort | Resurrection Signet |
Word of Healing | Dwayna's Kiss | Dismiss Condition | Signet of Rejuvenation | Shield of Absorption | Protective Spirit | Cure Hex | Renew Life |
Psychic Instability | Cry of Frustration | Empathy | Unnatural Signet | Restore Life | Shatter Hex | Waste Not, Want Not | Power Drain |
Searing Flames | Glowing Gaze | Liquid Flame | Mark of Rodgort | Meteor | Leech Signet | Power Drain | Resurrection Signet |
I wouldn't call any of those bars really "optimized" except for the mesmer bar, which is abusive but not that abusive. I strolled through most NKP and cleared out Peacekeeper mobs with no problems. There were a few times the henchmen died and we came close to a wipe, but I think that was more a result of Dunkoror blowing all his energy trying to keep the level 10s alive than real weakness. In any event, neither I nor the heroes died at any time, and I left with a 10% morale boost. The only ally I received was a level 17 Shining Blade Recruit warrior, who also got himself killed from time to time, mainly because I couldn't be arsed trying to keep him safe.
I used no consumables or anything like that.
After finishing the area, I decided to take on an area with more concentrated Peacekeeper/Mantle mobs, and went through Kessex Peak. I decided Zhed hadn't been dealing enough damage and replaced him with the following silly necromancer, which worked well:
Spiteful Spirit | Enfeebling Blood | Rip Enchantment | Strength of Honor | Judge's Insight | Smite Hex | Foul Feast | Signet of Lost Souls |
If anything, I found that the mobs were easier on average, thanks in part due to the higher-level henchmen and in part due to dealing 150 damage per swing as a result of the smite enchantments. I think the fog nightmare spikes were more difficult than the mantle, but neither were that challenging. I received whatsherface and her pet spider as allies, so we had 1 more than average, but I don't believe their presence was enough to skew the results.
Overall, the test run went well. In conclusion: I agree that the levels of the henchmen should be raised in Normal Mode, but I do not believe that the mobs are overpowered otherwise.
Note that this is all in Normal Mode. I didn't try Hard Mode because I'm lazy and it's dumb. –Jette 08:28, 21 June 2010 (UTC)
- Thanks for trying jette=) I am grateful to you for testing this, if you take the level 12 henchmen out into, say, watchtower coast from, oh beetletun? you run smack into a mesmer boss and her primarily mesmer secondary full party, but the biggest issue here is regarding the WiK content on hardmode, all of them being mesmer secondary, and the buffed mesmer content, as well, as the mesmers who spam skills, I am appreciative to you for the try, thanks very much. Rogueonion 08:39, 21 June 2010 (UTC)
- So, wait. The problem is that hard mode is too... hard. Can't you just turn it off? –Jette 08:40, 21 June 2010 (UTC)
- If the mesmers are overpowered, how am I supposed to work my titles in fairness? so NOW we have, casters can do hard mode, NOT "physicals" or whatever the hell people CHOOSE to call them. physical = melee to me. How is it fair that casters, mesmers, and everything OTHER than "physicals" can work hard mode without much hassle, but we get the short end of the stick? This whole issue has been about the fact that they jacked us over with this new mesmer update where hard mode is concerned, some of us choose to make our excess gold by fighting hard mode, or, work titles that we can only get in hard mode, it is not that it is too hard, it is that the mesmer update makes it impossible for melee/physical classes to perform hard mode tasks, like say, LOVISA that idiotic WiK boss quest for instance why should I be stuck with half a reward because I play when there is less chance of a PUG? In all fairness, they need to go back and test this on hard mode from the perspective of other professions. However, you have given me a gift and I am grateful that you have, as you remember my post about henchmen regarding the WiK content, much thanks, Rogueonion 08:48, 21 June 2010 (UTC)

- There are three reasons that spear-using imbagons are much better than your whatever. One is that you can keep the entire party in earshot without having to break away and stop attacking to use your shouts. Two is that it's foolish to frontline when the rest of the party has +100 AL and you do not. That will draw the AI's attention likes flies to poop. Three is that ranged attacking is always better than melee attacking. You can continue to build adrenaline when the enemy is moving away from you, which is especially important in Hard Mode when you can't actually CATCH the enemy until they feel like stopping. elix Omni 06:19, 22 June 2010 (UTC)

Use of MMOs as research for real-life phenomena[edit]
Imagine a quest-contracted skill called "death curse" or something similar that had the effect: if you do not finish (quest name) within 24 hours, your character dies permanently. The quest would give an absurd amount of XP and gold to entice people and not bother informing them about the effect, but also take much more than 24 hours to complete, or something. The idea here is to present this skill as legitimate, with the consequence being quite real. Equally important is the presentation of a side-effect as a bug: the skills spreads like Disease does, meaning that anyone logged in to the server during the weekend during which this event occurs could contract it upon coming into contact with others players and, subsequently, lose their character. This isn't a perfect representation of how all this would happen, but it gives a decent demonstration of how the idea would work.
The point here is to cause a widespread, fast-acting and highly lethal pandemic that could, potentially, mirror the behavior of a real-world outbreak psychologically, allowing people to observe the psychological side-effects of illnesses of this type in a contained environment. The GIFT effect would somewhat inhibit the validity of the study, and Guild Wars might not be the best medium for such an event, but another MMO might make an excellent staging area for such a study. I haven't played it, but World of Warcraft seems ideal, given its absurd market share and more meaningful death consequences.
Of great importance is the players' unawareness of the existence of the study, they must honestly believe their characters will contract debilitating illness of some kind if exposed.
Other internet studies of significance include how quickly perfectly decent people in real life will stoop to the level of "erotic role-play" or other internet debauchery upon being subjected to an MMO environment and complete anonymity. –Jette 04:23, 28 June 2010 (UTC)

- Theirs wasn't intentional - although the CDC took interest in the post-phenomenon statistics. Your version is rather more sadistic, I think. -- Oiseau | 04:56, 28 June 2010 (UTC)
- The fact that you would intentionally cause the kind of panic that Blizzard accidentally did really says a lot about you.
- I'd wager that you can't come up with anything original because you've a bent toward devising new and interesting ways to screw stuff up, and people are
prettyalarmingly capable of doing that themselves. People can and will fail in ways you hadn't even thought possible; don't be surprised. is for Raine, etc. 00:45, 30 June 2010 (UTC)- I'm a jerk, don't judge me! :< –Jette 02:22, 30 June 2010 (UTC)

Futility[edit]
Is knowing that rolling back every change made to the game since and including Eye of the North's release would make the game better. –Jette 08:25, 10 July 2010 (UTC)

Morgan Freeman[edit]
Holy shit, on the second reading of it, I did. -- Tha Reckoning 01:53, 24 July 2010 (UTC)
- Also, I'm raiding your archives for some of the funnier edits that the admins get onto you about, I'll keep a list on my page of my favorites. I feel like there should be a contest of some sort (read this Dave) of who has the most random yet funny edit that sparks negative admin attention. I think you'd win, but some other people have had some pretty funny ones too. Anyways, brb. -- Tha Reckoning 01:54, 25 July 2010 (UTC)

How to fix GW: the abridged version[edit]
1) Roll all settings and records without exception back to release date: April 25, 2005

- No. A number of things were broken on release (pet attacks, Balthazar faction, and Distortion all come to mind), and a number of other things were simply buggy (see [6]). Furthermore, Factions added a fair number of useful skills to the game (Spirit Bond, dslash, gift, blight, Extinguish, res chant, empathic to a point, PD, expel, etc). The problem was it also introduced Assassins, Ritualists, duplicate skills, and things like Rising Bile, Needling Shot, Beastial Mauling,
Discord(whoops, that was an EotN change), WoD, and coward. Properly fixing GW (not taking the "take cyclone axe off the lord" way) involves taking the best of Proph and the gems of the later chapters while discarding the rest. -- Armond Warblade{{Bacon}} 02:32, 7 August 2010 (UTC)- I assumed that taking more than a maximum of one step would be considered too difficult. I'd like to do one of those 10-page "durr hurrby durr this is how you fix the game" suggestion thingamahooies, but I don't think anyone reads them, it takes more effort than it's worth, I hate wikimarkup and I really don't think ANet has any understanding of design principles in the first place. Even if they did, I think their goals are different than that of the old-timer playerbase. Also, I consider them obnoxious. –Jette 03:32, 7 August 2010 (UTC)
Lovecraft[edit]
I'm curious, why do you think he was a troll? - Reanimated X 22:21, 20 August 2010 (UTC)
- Because he was. He was fantastically racist, above and beyond even the racism of normal internet users. Granted, this was different from the domineering, brutal racism of the Mississippi klansman, rather, it was the paranoid, neurotic racism of the inner-city white boy. Allow me to present one of his earlier works, On the Creation of Niggers:
- When, long ago, the gods created Earth;
- In Jove's fair image Man was shaped at birth.
- The beasts for lesser parts were designed;
- Yet were too remote from humankind.
- To fill the gap, and join the rest of Man,
- Th'Olympian host conceiv'd a clever plan.
- A beast they wrought, in semi-human figure,
- Filled it with vice, and called the thing a Nigger.
- Sprague de Camp also says that Lovecraft enjoyed getting a rise out of people he considered his intellectual inferiors by stating in a deadpan manner whatever he thought would offend them the most, and suggests that at least some reports of Lovecraft's racism derived from this practice. He was a troll. –Jette 04:25, 21 August 2010 (UTC)
jette, I choose you...[edit]
...to help me do something arduous.
I was trawling through the weird and wonderful interweb looking for a way to force bmp capture on guildwars while using texmod and I saw you mention a way to do it. For the life of me I can't work it out. Any advice you could give would be most appreciated. -- Salome 11:09, 12 October 2010 (UTC)
- It's been a while, so tell me whether or not this works. You'll need a memory editor, to start with. CheatEngine is the best available for Windows if I remember correctly, at least for editing live binaries and not debugging. It has a tutorial, go ahead and familiarize yourself with the interface. Attach it to gw.exe and search for the unicode text string "gw%03u.jpg" and change that to "gw%03u.bmp" without the quotes in both cases. Memory editing is the most obvious method of cheating ever, so this violates pretty much every part of the EULA. I've not been banned for it, though, and it's pretty unlikely you will be either. –Jette 11:41, 12 October 2010 (UTC)
