Cold damage
From Guild Wars Wiki
Cold Damage is an elemental damage type that is usually caused by ice, water, frost, or other related sources. The majority of cold damage sources are found in the Elementalist's Water Magic line, though cold damage is also plentiful in Necromancer offensive skills, and several Air Magic and Wind Prayers spells inflict cold damage. Cold damage is also inflicted by all Water Magic Staves, some Curses Wands and Staves and, non-unique Death Magic Wands and Staves and any martial weapon with an Icy prefix upgrade.
Unlike in some games, cold damage has no inherent effects such as slowing or shattering foes on hit. However, cold damage is often used in conjunction with snares.
Cold damage is particularly effective against fire damage-based foes. Using cold damage against a Flame Djinn will substantially increase damage one would otherwise do. Contrarily, cold damage is less effective against icy or cold-based enemies such as Ice Imps.
Since cold damage is fairly uncommon, it is in a player's best interest to determine when to protect oneself against it, and when to wield it. Studying the makeup of PvE enemies in an explorable area or mission, or tweaking a PvP build to counter the metagame may give your party a slight edge.
