Damage results from actions taken by attackers that subtract a portion of a target's health. This includes many attacks or skills (including spells).

Damage does not include :

Properties[edit]

When an attacker attempts to damage a target, the following is factored in:

  • The damage type, such as fire or blunt.
  • The amount of damage done, which may vary due to the target's armor rating granting potential resistance or weakness to that specific damage type. In the case of a skill, this may also vary due to the skill user's level.
    • Skills dealing shadow damage, holy damage and damage without a specified type (skills with descriptions that state "<number> damage" or "+<number> damage"), ignore the target's armor and the skill deals exactly its stated amount of damage.
      • "+<number> damage" always comes in addition to regular, armor-respecting, damage, making this more difficult to see.
  • The attacker's ability to inflict the damage (such as being blinded or affected by a hex with a chance of missing, when the target is kiting or out of line of sight)
  • The target's ability to resist this damage (such as using effects that block attacks).
  • Damage modifiers on both sides.

The term damage source or damage packet refers to each minus number that pops up when you take or deal damage.
