Damage over time
From Guild Wars Wiki
Damage over time, or DoT, is a term which means dealing sustained damage not at once but over a given time period. Most damage over time skills deal damage over discrete time increments, however others deal damage only when a specific triggering condition is met. The term is also used to refer collectively to both true damage over time effects and health degeneration effects, which are similar, but technically a form of non-damage health loss.
