Mission or Dungeon[edit]

I don't think 'A Gate Too Far' should be listed as a dungeon...it's just a primary quest that happens to be inside a dungeon. Just my 2 cents.De Gaia 15:58, 27 August 2007 (UTC)

It's a seperate spawn, using almost the same 3D map. Backsword 16:00, 27 August 2007 (UTC)
It's technically one of the repeatable mission-quest things. --LemmingUser Lemming64 sigicon.png 16:01, 27 August 2007 (UTC)
Yes, but it says Dungeon, and the others say Explorable Area, upon entering them. Backsword 16:03, 27 August 2007 (UTC)
Yes but we don't have separate explorable area articles for the others, do we? --LemmingUser Lemming64 sigicon.png 16:04, 27 August 2007 (UTC)
Maybe we will, considering how many new articles are being created. May well be needed; these areas are distinctly different in spawns, and somewhat in layout. Probably better to use mission formating for them tho', as that's what they are in all but name. Backsword 16:07, 27 August 2007 (UTC)

I dont think battledepths is a dungeon, it is the different than the others in that it actually has a name on the map were the others do not. AirportManager 19:10, 27 August 2007 (UTC) ~

Yes in the sneak peak format it was an undergound explorable area rather than a dungeon. --LemmingUser Lemming64 sigicon.png 20:01, 30 August 2007 (UTC)
I think we should just use the mission formatting guidelines for A Gate Too Far, Blood Washes Blood and Curse of the Nornbear. -- Gordon Ecker 21:43, 30 August 2007 (UTC)

Fronis Irontoe's Lair[edit]

Seems to have become a Dungeon, as per the latest update. Backsword 19:51, 30 August 2007 (UTC)

So if you finished it during the preview weekend we are screwed?Penguincontact 10:50, 2 September 2007 (UTC)
No, Kilroy Stonekin's Punch-Out Extravaganza! is now repeatable for everyone including characters who completed it during the preview weekend. -- Gordon Ecker 10:58, 2 September 2007 (UTC)

Dungeon Templates[edit]

I've been seeing a few different style of pages for dungeons lately with lay out, maps, dungeon pictures etc. I was hoping we could select one page with a good layout to use a uniform style for the other dungeons, or rework the other to fit others. One thing I propose is a Levels Box in the info box at the top of the page seeing as its unform for every dungeon and important info to know. Dancing Gnome 09:07, 2 September 2007 (UTC)

I just tried it on Cathedral of Flames for the info box and you can see "levels = 3" however it doesn't show up in the page? Does this have something to do with the locations infobox? Can someone change it or tell me how to chage it please? Dancing Gnome 09:09, 2 September 2007 (UTC)
I've added the levels parameter to the infobox. -- Gordon Ecker 09:23, 2 September 2007 (UTC)
That was so fast I thought I missed it showing up the first time. Dancing Gnome 09:25, 2 September 2007 (UTC)
I've brought up a formatting discussion at Guild Wars Wiki talk:Formatting/Dungeons. -- Gordon Ecker 09:43, 2 September 2007 (UTC)
Weren't there lines before? I kinda liked the lines...made it easier to see when there's multiple columns like this is :( 71.223.82.184 22:15, 6 September 2007 (UTC)

Faction rewards[edit]

We should make it clear whether those are rewards for doing the dungeon the first time or repeated clearing. --Xeeron 15:14, 5 September 2007 (UTC)

Yes, a new column next to the exsisting one listing the reward for repeating it should do it I think--User Gummy Joe Sig Icon.PNGGummy Joe 15:19, 5 September 2007 (UTC)
What about putting both in the same column separated by a slash? -- Gordon Ecker 22:48, 5 September 2007 (UTC)
I'm pretty sure the reward for Slavers' Exile is Norn, not Dwarven reputation points. Could someone verify that and edit the article. --The preceding unsigned comment was added by 87.126.136.85 (talk).

Chest Rewards - Random Polymock Piece?[edit]

Are the polymock pieces random for each dungeon? I've only ever found the Gaki in in Raven's Point, none anywhere else. I was wondering if certain dungeons only dropped certain peices? Dancing Gnome 16:04, 6 September 2007 (UTC)

Our Polymock page suggest that some pieces can be found in more than 1 chest (Gaki Polymock piece for example) and that some chests drop more than 1 piece (Arachni for example). That's all what we know for now. Of course, that doesn't mean each chest can drop each piece. If you have more informations, please share :-) Chriskang 16:12, 6 September 2007 (UTC)

Number in the Master Dungeon Guide[edit]

I think we should add a sortable column for the number of appearance in the guide, to sort them in the exact order they appear in the guide. Anyone has a completed guide? MithranArkanere 18:49, 6 September 2007 (UTC)

Sorrow's Furnace[edit]

It techincally is a dungeon... --The preceding unsigned comment was added by User:67.165.122.197 .

Dungeons are 18. The 18 listed in the Master Dungeon Guide. Other 'dungeon-like' areas, such as Furnace, Tombs, Urgoz, Angish, etc... should be, if listed, in separate tables.MithranArkanere 01:32, 8 September 2007 (UTC)
SF tombs and the pre-GWEN elite areas are underground areas. They should go in a separate page/table. --Xeeron 11:08, 8 September 2007 (UTC)

Hard Mode Dungeon Rep[edit]

We're going to need another column for the hard mode dungeon rep rewards? My wiki-fu isn't strong enough =( Fyi Secret Lair of the Snowmen gives 750 Dwarven the first time, and 150 Dwarven subsequent times whilst in Hard Mode 69.235.26.201 20:35, 12 October 2007 (UTC)

The dungeons in HM seem to be reliably giving +50% rep for completion. Which means HM first completion of Slaver's Exile is worth 7,500 rep? Niiiice. 13k rep if you do it this weekend. 69.235.26.201 23:15, 12 October 2007 (UTC)

  • I put this table in the talk page first, because i'm not sure what with the last dungeon is. **Corresponding to the Talk page of this quest, it cannot be repeated (anymore?).

Not exactly what I thought..[edit]

Verrrry delayed but, as I've been playing through EoTN i remembered that video that was shown a while back, with the guy discussing dungeons. Now I am sort of happy with the Dungeons (all very similar to me which is why I wasn't overjoyed) but in that video, they hyped dungeons up so much and to my dismay, discussed all sorts of features in these dungeons that never made it to the game. I remember "If your guide was killed, you had to find your way on your own and make your own path." Umm...my guide died and rezed 5 seconds later on his own. "You can rescue warriors and prisoners to aid you in your quest!" Light of deldrimor dwarves..? No rescuing there, just casting a spell and having him appear at random spots. I wish they had incorperated these and many more aspects in that video...would have switched up things a little..-Warior kronos 21:01, 22 November 2007 (UTC)

Warband of Brothers. Chriskang 11:54, 23 November 2007 (UTC)
That isn't a "dungeon" as such...it is a quest that uses a dungeon. I guess that adds more content with less work which seems to be ANets thing, see Title. --Deathwing 23:26, 27 November 2007 (UTC)
There are a few dungeons in which you can gain temporary allies in other ways. Backsword 08:29, 28 November 2007 (UTC)

Changes?[edit]

Okay, what happened to the dungeons in HM? Suddenly there are creatures there that were not there previously...and the Golems in Oola's Lab are behaving very strangely - sometimes they aggro and sometimes they don't bother and just ignore you then suddenly decide to aggro again... Is this a change ANet has made to make the HM dungeons more difficult? --Shaia 08:23, 28 November 2007 (UTC)

Yeah, I noticed some popups in Cathedral of Flames HM that were not there in NM. Not a bad feature IMO. --Deathwing 19:20, 28 November 2007 (UTC)
Yup, it can cut down on the farming that goes on, or make it a little bit more difficult. But it's better when the things actually work 'correctly' as this can be a bit frustrating....shudder to think what happened to Duncan in HM now...heh. --Shaia 07:15, 29 November 2007 (UTC)

Regular, Elite, or Master[edit]

I think we should have a tab for dungeon difficulty as well. Same way as the one for faction. Just my two cents I guess. Lintor 21:20, 31 December 2007 (UTC)

I second this! 99.234.48.27 05:01, 15 March 2008 (UTC)

Getting started[edit]

I have just started playing Eotn and as I walked out the Eye of the North, I have been fighting my way through the areas until I arrived to Umbral Grotto. Now I walked out Umbral Grotto and I am pretty sure I am in a dungeon (the 9th one). Since I just started to play, the gate that leads to the first batch of Stone Summit Dwarves does not seem to want to open up to me. Is it because I don't meet a prerequisite or did I just not find the way to open up that gate? --76.68.152.60 17:18, 1 January 2008 (UTC)

You need to take the quest to do a dungeon. --Deathwing 17:48, 1 January 2008 (UTC)
Thank you >> Hey you gotta ask when you don't know! --76.68.152.60 18:06, 1 January 2008 (UTC)

Completing???[edit]

I heard that you can complete a dungeon. But what do you have to do in order to complete it? I had travelled through the Battledepths and Vloxen Excavations (to reach Vlox Fells) but I didn't noticed anything of completing. Do I have to do a quest or something like that? I noticed a dredge in Umbral Grotto.--The preceding unsigned comment was added by User:81.206.83.153 (talk).

Yes, see the quests column at Dungeon --SnogratUser Snograt signature.png 22:03, 13 January 2008 (UTC)

DUMBED DOWN?!?[edit]

After doing Catacombs of Kathandrax and Rragar's Manegerie in hard mode it seems I'm 100% sure dungeons were dumbed down... Anyone know when they were dumbed down? before it was almost impossible to kill the boss in Catacombs.... --The preceding unsigned comment was added by User:Rella (talk).

The first time I fought Ilsundur, he died in under 5 seconds due to Pain Inverter, he appears to have gotten a huge health buff. As for Rragar and Hidesplitter, they've always been easy with the right skills. -- Gordon Ecker 02:27, 14 January 2008 (UTC)
Dumbed down? The Catacombs boss is still one of the toughest bosses in the game. — Eloc 05:20, 15 March 2008 (UTC)
Rella is correct about Ilsundur, Lord of Fire being dumbed down - its health regen was removed in the 02-29-2008 update. --War Pig5 20:13, 3 April 2008 (UTC)
True, but that's because it has an extradordinarily large amount of health. — Eloc 06:07, 4 April 2008 (UTC)

Not Getting Rep Points for Completing Dungeons[edit]

Whenever I complete a dungeon for the first time in NM, that I have already completed in HM, I don't get the full reputation reward for completing it. I'm not sure if I'm getting zero points or just the "repeating the dungeon" amount of points, but I'm definitely not getting the amount of points I should be getting for doing it the first time. This has happened with reputation tracks at only r7, so it's not that my titles are too high to get any points for NM content. It seems that the game considers doing the dungeon in HM as counting as a "first time" for both modes. I don't know if this is a bug or intentional, but it's pissing me off. I lost 5000 Norn points because I did Slaver's in HM first. -__- --Mme. Donelle 13:55, 24 May 2008 (UTC)

I just checked and I'm fairly sure I got zero points. So it seems to be a bug. --Mme. Donelle 15:19, 24 May 2008 (UTC)

Quests[edit]

Since all dungeons require a quest, would it be a good idea to mention on the quest pages that they are actually dungeon-quests? --The preceding unsigned comment was added by User:EyeContact (talk).

The man has a point. --LemmingUser Lemming64 sigicon.png 02:04, 1 August 2008 (UTC)

Does it only require one person in your party to have the quest? 92.11.171.108 15:22, 12 August 2008 (UTC)

I think so, but you won't get the quest reward obviously. EyeContact 14:24, 15 August 2008 (UTC)

Dungeon Running[edit]

Runners for hire are fairly commonplace now, esp in Doomlore Shrine. Its getting hard to find anyone interested in actually playing the dungeons as normal anymore, everyone just wants to be run through quickly to get titles. This really is not in the spirit of dungeon delving, nor the game. Adding stuff like 'party pressure plates' before every door, which would require all human players to stand on it to open said door, would discourage running and restore some balance to this problem. Or other possible fixes to encourage participation, like pop-ups or puzzles or something. My opinion and as such you don't have to agree with it.Desiree 21:28, 19 January 2009 (UTC)

Or perhaps if they made the dungeons more enjoyable? I don't blame people for wanting to get runs through SoO, CoK, and other places. They are too hard to be fun for most people. Personally, I'm going to keep trying at the harder dungeons in HM, because I don't like having people run stuff for me. King Neoterikos 04:50, 7 February 2009 (UTC)
In todays Guild Wars trying to "fix" running is not worth the effort. Skills like Ursan Blessing and SoS have destroyed the playerbase. People who want to play (or wanted too) didn't want to use imba-godmode skills , they wanted to have some degree of challenge, so they left. People who didn't care for the game and just wanted to get thier titles are able to grind thru all the gameplay based titles in a weekend with SoS, just as they were with Ursan, so they are all done and while some of them are still around they are not playing. Crummy players that need stuff like Ursan and SoS would have too hard a time with things like pressure plates and reading or solving puzzles, so any complication that was instituted would really only serve to encourage MORE running. Its sad, because GW touted itself as a game which rewarded skill when it was released..... but that was a long long long time ago. Todays GW is more of an online chatroom with avatars than a game..... I wonder what GW2 will be like...... actually scratch that, I don't care at all lol. 66.190.225.109 15:10, 22 September 2010 (UTC)
...you don't care but you are on the discussion page crying and claiming all the "good" players left the game. For a five year old game with a fumbled sequel I think GW is still managing to do fairly well. Even with the people that cry about skills and claim the game is dead. --The preceding unsigned comment was added by 74.231.24.2 (talk).
..... Its a waste of time to incorporate the pressure plates your talking about because there are still team build that speed clear dungeons such as the 8 permas with spears. --The preceding unsigned comment was added by 76.118.174.183 (talk).

Definition[edit]

I see that exact definition of dungeon is missed in the article. First of all, need to note that dungeons have been introduced in EotN (underground areas in other campaigns are not counted as dungeons). Also need to note that completing a dungeon gives a specific reward in dungeon chest, which is available for every party member. After definition, the table with list of dungeons, quests and rewards becomes more logical and understandable.
Dungeons in Eye of the North are the separate underground areas, implemented as chained instances. To get a full access to specific dungeon, player must take an appropriate quest. After completing the dungeon, all party members get a reward from dungeon chest. — something like this. --Slavic 10:16, 6 March 2009 (UTC)

500 asura rep for first time through Oola's Lab?[edit]

Isn't that awfully low? I know it's one of the easier dungeons, but only Frontis Irontoe and Snowmen have that low of a rep reward. Bogroot seems low at 1000 too. I never understood why Rragar's was a master difficulty quest either. Vloxen, especially in HM is as difficult. And SoO is a joke with three RoJ heroes. 76.84.34.210 15:16, 1 June 2009 (UTC)

Dungeon Chests[edit]

I'm wondering if it is possible to open up dungeon chests multiple times... And I am meaning in multiple dungeon runs. Both in normal mode and in hardmode. I thought so, but I'm to lazy too find out by myself. Would take me about 2 hours and if the chest wouldn't open i would be verry irritated and smash my computer. Anyone know the answer?

Yes you can open multiple times (as long as you exit dungeon after opening it). M3G User M3G Pumpkin.png 11:20, 1 October 2009 (UTC)

Hey, The "bug" note near the bottem of the page. I don't think that is a bug. It is simply guild wars interface only being able to show one timer icon at a time because as you all know you can customize the interface using f11 so I just think the game is not capable of displaying 2 timers at the same time that take up the same interface box. I disagree it is a bug and chalk it up to the way the game is designed in it being not able to re display it once the res timer goes away. What do you guys think? --The preceding unsigned comment was added by 98.192.204.90 (talk).

Dungeon chest drop research compilation[edit]

I counted up all of the drops recorded on the research pages, divided into categories. I'm defining "exclusive" as something that only drops from that chest, several items only drop from the Zchest, UW chest, FoW chest, and Slaver's chests, so I'm not counting those as exclusive.

Non-exclusive gold Exclusive gold Diamond Onyx Gemstone Polymock piece Unique
573 57 71 64 14 68
67.7% 6.7% 8.4% 7.6% 1.7% 8.0%
Total: 847

People are of course more likely to post when they find something nice, but hopefully this is a fairly accurate look at the drop distribution. Manifold User Manifold Jupiter.jpg 05:28, 29 March 2010 (UTC)

Onyx/Diamond are without a doubt over 50% chance combined. 98.248.90.248 05:35, 29 March 2010 (UTC)
Although I think they are a bit underrepresented, I wouldn't put it any higher than 25%. Manifold User Manifold Jupiter.jpg 14:10, 29 March 2010 (UTC)

"Chained Instances"[edit]

If dungeons are chained instances why don't consumables carry over eg AoS --The preceding unsigned comment was added by 81.141.104.232 (talk • contribs) at 10:26, 22 April 2012 (UTC).

Because each level is its own instance; only a few effects extend across portals (e.g. DP/Bonus). – Tennessee Ernie Ford (TEF) 04:26, 24 July 2012 (UTC)

It would be a lot easier if consumables did carry over.
