Account name retrieval

How can i retrieve my account name cause i know the password and the e-mail i signed up with but when i put the email in and password in it says it doesnt recognize the account info(i put the email adress underneath where it says "account name" and password underneath where it says "password")? --The preceding unsigned comment was added by 184.145.13.24 (talk) at 00:24, 1 April 2011 (UTC).

Did you fill in a character name where it says Security Question? If you can't remember the name of any of your character, perhaps you still have a screenshot folder you could look through. Otherwise it's probably best to contact Guild Wars support to retrieve your account info. Judas 00:35, 1 April 2011 (UTC)

Mercenary Heroes

Hello!

I have 10 characters in GW and would like to know, is it better to create a Mercenary Hero that has been through all of the campaigns, or does it even matter? Once you create a Mercenary Hero, if that Hero hasn't been through any campaigns like factions, can he go there as a Mercenary? Or would it be better to use a character that has been through ALL campaigns? 99.177.254.78 19:12, 1 April 2011 (UTC)

Doesn't matter. As long as the character is lvl 20, he/she will be able to accompany your other characters as a hero. -- FreedomBoundUser Freedom Bound Sig.png 19:24, 1 April 2011 (UTC)

Mercenary movement problem

moved from Guild Wars Wiki:Reporting wiki bugs#Mercenary movement problem

Translation provided by 72: "Hello. I'm letting myself come to you, cuz I've had a bug for a long time. Namely, some NPCs [heroes?] or even henchmen jump/skip continuously from front to back, even if they're not moving. That said, I don't mind much, but yeah, I'd like to finish Nightfall, and the coop Tihark Orchards being solo, I can't finish the bonus. Thanks for understanding."
Note: henchies/heroes are never quite "not moving"; they like to shuffle even when you stand still. | 72 User 72 Truly Random.jpg | 20:31, 3 April 2011 (UTC)
G R E E N E R 01:15, 4 April 2011 (UTC)
Sorry, I can't read French (I think) and I don't trust online translators to do a good job but...
I think you mean that heroes and henchmen move inside the formation they normally form around you when idle. This formation places people with melee weapons in front, and ranged weapons in the middle and back. I think you just have a Ritualist primary or secondary that has a bundle (ash) spell. People holding ashes or other items in their hands are treated as melee characters and move to the front, but when the ashes drop the caster has a wand or staff and moves to the back. I think you're talking about this back and forth. If so, there's no real way to stop that aside from disabling the skill or changing it to another skill. Roar! Poki#3 (talk) 01:40, 4 April 2011 (UTC)
Yeah, I think I translated for the wrong problem. I did not note the OP as saying the Henchies move even when the player character is standing still. I thought the problem was about lag while moving with the NPC jumping due to server-computer connection. Anyways, running out of the house, and I'll try to translate your response later, Poki. G R E E N E R 01:59, 4 April 2011 (UTC)
FYI I think you understood correctly GREENER. It seems that the problem is related to lag. Réponse au commentaire original: ce genre de problèmes peuvent apparaître lorsqu'il y a des délais sur la connexion réseau. --Stephane Lo Presti talk 20:34, 4 April 2011 (UTC)

Not loading?

My guild wars lately has not been loading at all. I log on and click on my character and nothing loads. anyone else have this problem? can anyone help? I tried to go into my properties and -image but it didn't work...

P.S when I get on, on the log in screen, there is no side box that says a special event is going on. thanks. --The preceding unsigned comment was added by User:Dgot skillzz (talk).

If you're getting the Login screen announcements, then you're connecting at least in some fashion to Anet servers. Being able to see your characters is also a good sign. I know I've had a couple of my characters get caught in a strange no-man's land (not quite like yours), but I was able to give my game a kick-start by playing a different character for a bit. If you only have one character, try making another temporary one and see if the problem persists. G R E E N E R 01:00, 5 April 2011 (UTC)
Nothing is working. I can take a screen if you'd like. idk whats wrong. just sometimes I go port and at the map screen, nothing loads. then I restart my comp and try to log on and right as I click on my character, it goes to the loading screen and doesn't load. maybe that speicifies it more. thanks. --The preceding unsigned comment was added by User:Dgot skillzz (talk).

Skill Hunter

Canthan skill hunter, can only locate 118 on baltazhar list, capped all of em but still says I am 118/120??--75.53.212.5 04:10, 5 April 2011 (UTC)

When posting a question, make sure to either click the + tab at the top, or the "click here to ask a question" link, that way your question gets its own section.
For your Skill Hunter, have you counted up the number of elites you currently have on your character, or are you using the Balthazar list to count? You may have two elite skills unlocked (and marked as such on the Balthazar list), but not actually capped, which would of course be the cause of your problem.
Do also keep in mind that a number of elite skills are Core; these Core skills are available in all three major campaigns, and count towards all three of the Skill Hunter titles. If you're counting up the elite skills from Factions, you may perhaps be missing two Core elites.
If you can't seem to find what is missing, try counting the skills on your character manually; go through each profession and see how many you have, then compare that number to the amount of elite skills available to that profession. This should make it much easier to narrow it down to those missing two. --User Jioruji Derako logo.png Jïörüjï Ðērākō.>.cнаt^ 04:36, 5 April 2011 (UTC)

Survivor Title Track

How do you get the Survivor Title track? I don't know what it means to gain this number* of experience without dying. Does that mean I can do 4-5 quests or missions without dying and I get this many experience points and then I get the survivor title track? Or does it have to be one mission? 99.252.163.223 22:24, 5 April 2011 (UTC)

Any experience you gain counts, as long as you don't die.  — Tennessee Ernie Ford (TEF) 22:31, 5 April 2011 (UTC)
Well then how come I don't gain any experience points for the title of Survivor? I don't die, and I've been doing hard mode missions.99.252.163.223 16:22, 10 April 2011 (UTC)
The title track reflects only the greatest amount of XP gained without dying. Use the /deaths command to see how much experience you have gained since your toon's last death; it should be less than the amount showing on the title track.  — Tennessee Ernie Ford (TEF) 16:35, 10 April 2011 (UTC)

I'm in District 4

I just started playing the game a few days ago. I received a guild guest invite, but was unable to respond. When I'm in Ascalon City, it told me I was in District 3, and then after leaving and returning, District 4. The guild leader said there hasn't been that many districts for years. ** All Districts are referring to America - English **. I chose District 1 in the pull-down, but he was still unable to invite me to a group. Any thoughts what's happening?

174.3.212.169 02:57, 6 April 2011 (UTC)

It's possible he is in a different region than you. Guild Wars has a Party Search window that lists all people in all districts of a particular region who have added themselves to that window. Just type "LFG" in chat and it will place you in this system automatically. You can see other people looking for a group by clicking the "party search" button in the party window. If your friend still can't find you, you're in different regions. If this is the case, select the district dropdown menu and choose "more" (or additional, IDR what it's called). You can choose any region you want. ~Shard User Shard Sig Icon.png 04:31, 6 April 2011 (UTC)
I suspect that you are in pre-Searing Ascalon City and he's in post-Searing AC; that would also explain why he thinks District 4 is unlikely and that you cannot get to the guild (since you don't need to be in the same district to do that).  — Tennessee Ernie Ford (TEF) 04:52, 6 April 2011 (UTC)
It is also important to note that characters in Pre-Searing Tyria cannot enter guild halls. Teddy Dan, yo. 20:39, 9 April 2011 (UTC)

mission not logged into hard mode hero's handbook

I ran warband of brothers mission in hard mode and completed it. My chat screen showed that the quest was accepted and I recieved my points and money but it never registered in my book and it was in my inventory on me. I went to the herald in EOTN and he never recognized it either as I was hoping he would and just add it for me. I ran this mission on 4/5/11 around 10pm est. on my character Counting the Ghosts. I also logged off and back on to see if it appeared but it did not. Is there a glitch in the missions being added?

I've never had the problem, but I have observed the following (among friends, guidlies):
  • Sometimes people think they have done the mish in NM and they have only the HM book (or vice versa)
  • Sometimes people have more than one book on them at the time; if the first book already has the page filled, then you can't get credit on the second one.
If you don't think either of above applies, I recommend filing a ticket with support and give them the time/date/district so that they can investigate. It's possible there's a bug, but it's more likely something else. Good luck.  — Tennessee Ernie Ford (TEF) 04:58, 6 April 2011 (UTC)

multiple characters

I have two characters. Can I move items or gold between them or do they play PvE independently? Can I unite them in a quest or mission?

Ross --The preceding unsigned comment was added by 71.99.81.244 (talk).

You can transfer money and items between characters with the use of the Xunlai Chest. They cannot be united in a quest or mission, unless you buy Mercenary Hero slots, but even then, only the appearance of the second character is really there, the original character won't receive credit for doing the quest or mission. -- FreedomBoundUser Freedom Bound Sig.png 22:08, 6 April 2011 (UTC)

Refund policy (in-game)

I was wondering if ArenaNet could possibly refund my money+materials from buying Elite Kurzick armor on my Assassin? because I bought it earlier today and found that I didn't like it and I feel like I've lost so much because I used everything I had to earn it.. xD So is there some sort of returning that could take place?--86.63.24.56 20:35, 9 April 2011 (UTC)

Unless they rolled back the server (which they will not), there is no way to undo the creation of Elite Kurzick armor. The best you could do is salvage it or sell it to a merchant, but you would still only make a small fraction back, you might as well just keep it at that point (or make it worthwhile and dedicate it in your HoM). Aqua (T|C) 20:51, 9 April 2011 (UTC)
And don't give up on the armour right away. With the right dye, or replacing of some pieces with armour from other sets, it can always be spruced up. G R E E N E R 22:31, 9 April 2011 (UTC)

Where is the access key at on the game case?

It's on a piece of paper inside the case.  — Tennessee Ernie Ford (TEF) 06:49, 12 April 2011 (UTC)
It's on a mostly white piece, folded piece of paper that you have to tear the sides of to unfold it and see the key OR on a credit card sized piece of plastic. Roar! Poki#3 (talk) 21:56, 12 April 2011 (UTC)

War in Kryta

I am trying to complete the War in Kryta quest. I have completed Riverside Assassination and the next two quests. It is like I am not getting any credit for those quests. When I did Temple of the Intolerable, all the bosses were there except for Koril the Malignant. Lost CDs

I bought guild wars from the store a long time ago. I stop playing and gave the game to my sister. Now, I want start playing again but she lost my CDs. Is there a way to download the games (I had all but Guild Wars 2) on this computer without buying them again with the CDs?

Sure. Use the official link. Also, check out Command Line arguments to see how you can use the -image switch to ensure that you can download all the images for the game (so that you don't have long delays when zoning). It's a 4 GB download, so it's convenient to run -image when you're not using your 'net connection for anything else.  — Tennessee Ernie Ford (TEF) 17:37, 16 April 2011 (UTC)

When you abandon a quest, there is almost always a way to re-gain the quest again. In this case, checking Into_Chahbek_Village shows that you should be able to regain the quest from Komir, in Island of Shehkah. (remaking the character will likely be just as quick, but shouldn't be necessary.) --User Jioruji Derako logo.png Jïörüjï Ðērākō.>.cнаt^ 20:45, 17 April 2011 (UTC)
Bwuahahah, funny. You cannot get back to Shehkah, much like you cannot get back to Pre. 88.153.105.75 20:52, 17 April 2011 (UTC)
Hmm, last time I made a character in NF was a few years ago. (also didn't see the below section when I wrote this.)
In that case, there's really very little reason to avoid remaking the character. Worst-case, you picked up some decent loot, which you can hand over to a friend to hold while you remake the character over again. --User Jioruji Derako logo.png Jïörüjï Ðērākō.>.cнаt^ 10:32, 18 April 2011 (UTC)

All possible advice has been given, including starting again. Koss should have joined your party when you completed Into Chahbek Village, before you entered Chahbek Village (outpost). This would have been done automatically by the game. If the server did not assign him to your account at that time, then the server will not assign him; there is nothing to prompt it to recognize an error. Your last resort could be to Contact Support and see if they have any tools at their disposal. G R E E N E R 18:55, 17 April 2011 (UTC)

You know, you can make the exact same character. Same name, same looks, same profession. No one will know the difference and this will save you a lot of trouble later on since there's a moment you lose Koss and have to regain him again and IDK how the game will react to that.
By delaying remaking the character you're just causing yourself more trouble in the long run and will have to redo more of the game :/ Roar! Poki#3 (talk) 00:45, 18 April 2011 (UTC)
I don't understand why you refuse to remake a character that you'd only played for like 5min (judging from your first post). Like Poki said, you can use the same name and everything, and it's not like you've invested that much time into the character at this point. Plus, considering how much trouble this "I don't have Koss" nonsense is giving you, I really really don't understand why you are so adamant about not remaking this character. --Dragon Nataku talk to me 12:57, 18 April 2011 (UTC)
don't you get koss with the quest reward in chahbek village for completing the small tutorial? oops ignore me. This sounds so unprecedented though, could it be possible that the OP merely cannot use the hero drop-down list in the party window? 90.206.126.184 09:07, 21 April 2011 (UTC)

Boost Morale?

there is something wrong with the game, because in the game I've been doing a mission called kath and in the mission I should have +10% morale boost because I have defeated a multiple number of bosses to gain that morale boost. But now it says that I have +1% morale boost. I see a problem. Please and thank you. 99.252.163.223 23:58, 18 April 2011 (UTC)

Morale Boosts and Death Penalty negate each other. Dying even once is enough to wipe out whatever morale boost you have accumulated. I suspect you killed the last boss with 1% death penalty, bringing you up to 1% morale boost. --Irgendwer 00:13, 19 April 2011 (UTC)
To be more precise, dying will give you 15% death penalty, or -15% morale boost (it's equivalent). So if you have no boost/penalty, and you die, then you have -15% DP, after a 10% morale boost, you would have -5% DP. If you gained some experience in between, it reduced the DP to -9%, so the 10% boost gave you a total of +1% boost. poke | talk 22:26, 19 April 2011 (UTC)

RUBBERBANDING.???

I am so upset about rubberbands, bad internet connection and getting stuck etc... I've been doing missions, speed clears, and other runs that I have to do with a team of 8 players, and I let them down because I'm either stuck in a corner fighting or running into enemies , or i'm stuck in between two objects when I SHOULD be up ahead running with the team, and once I die completely I go back to where I was stuck.

Is there any way to FIX rubberbands? And does rubberbanding happen in Guild Wars 2? I don't think I would buy GW 2 if rubberband happens frequently. Thank you.99.252.163.223 23:19, 20 April 2011 (UTC)

"Rubberbanding" results from latency, which occurs based on an individual's own connection speed to ArenaNet's servers. As you state in your question, much of your problem lies in bad internet connectivity, which of course is the responsibility of the player and not a fault in Guild Wars. I'd suggest using direct connections, if you're having trouble on wireless connections or upgrading your speed with your internet provider. Cheers. -- Oiseau | User Oiseau Melandru.jpg 23:46, 20 April 2011 (UTC)

Thank you for the answer but my computer uses extreme high speed internet, from North America. And I do not use wireless internet. My concern is how to fix the problem because it keeps happening to me while I play. Is it the computer or the internet? My internet is fast, but it is still lagging, I want to know if the problem can be fixed. Because if it doesn't get fixed the game is not fun. 99.252.163.223 00:12, 21 April 2011 (UTC)

The closest thing there is to a fix is the /stuck command. Type it in chat to unstick yourself. Better yet, bind a key to a third-party macro that types it for you. --Irgendwer 01:48, 21 April 2011 (UTC)
When I used to have AT&T I was paying for "fast" internet but AT&T could not provide the same speeds in the area where I live than they could to other places. Apparently, for them the further you are away from AT&T the worse your internet was, even if you paid for fast internet (or so it was explained to me). So even if you pay for fast internet (and it doesn't have to be AT&T) it might not actually be as fast as it should. You might want to look into that. Regardless, as Oiseau said, it's on your end, not GuildWars' end. --Dragon Nataku talk to me 11:04, 21 April 2011 (UTC)
Rubberbanding should be also noted by even the worst of PuGs, after which you /stuck and get moving. - Infinite - talk 12:17, 21 April 2011 (UTC)
Close unneeded programs and stop running between mobs.--NeilUser Neil2250 sig icon6.png 14:04, 21 April 2011 (UTC)

(Reset indent) The latency you get depends not just on your own Internet connection, but every part of the link between you and Anet. If there's a bottleneck somewhere in there, you'll notice it in the form of high pings andd rubberbanding. They do seem to be plagued by latency problems. -- Hong 14:26, 21 April 2011 (UTC)

How do you bind a key to a third party macro? Because i can't type very fast and i don't know very much about Guild Wars as other people.99.252.163.223 21:59, 21 April 2011 (UTC)

Any macro software should work. AutoHotkey is pretty good, for example. Here's an example that should do what you want. --Irgendwer 23:07, 21 April 2011 (UTC)
"Fast" internet isn't the same as having low latencies. Ping is a thing unrelated directly to internet speed (unless you're using up all your bandwidth). The best thing you can do to counteract rubberbanding is moving properly. This only happens if you try to move in very fight spaces between wall and mobs, and mobs and mobs. Simply wait a moment longer for the mobs to gather and circle around them. Roar! Poki#3 (talk) 02:20, 22 April 2011 (UTC)
Have you read the Rubber-banding article? --Silver Edge 04:10, 24 April 2011 (UTC)
Rubber-banding is most common when you use the keyboard to move past an enemy or group of enemies. Your game client and Anet's servers keep separate data on what your location is, and they only sync when certain events happen rather than a time based interval. There are three easy ways to stop rubberbanding: Use the mouse to move sometimes, use /stuck, or use a skill with an activation time. ~Shard User Shard Sig Icon.png 09:15, 1 May 2011 (UTC)
On a last note to that, the skill doesn't actually have to be used, the sever just has to register that you attempted to use it. For example, if you incorrectly tried to cast Resurrection Signet on a target that wasn't dead, your position data is synced with Anet's data regardless. The same can be said for any skill which you can incorrectly target (which is a large majority of them). Note that as the game does not allow you to "use" a skill on an incorrect target, you won't consume any energy in the process. As a result, repeatedly using a skill on an incorrect target is a convenient alternative to typing "/stuck", or creating a macro specifically for the purpose. Random Character Freezing

Hey I have played Guild wars for over 3 years and haven't had any problems with the game and now as i log in a play for 1-2 hours suddenly at random my character freezes in place and the connection seems to disentregrate, i have tried rebooting the game, reinstalling, and changing the graphics settings to the lowest intervals, nothing seems to work and its getting annoying especially when it does it right in the middle of a mission so if anyone has any advice, much appreciated. ---- Master Levan talk 15:15, 21 April 2011 (UTC)

Could you be a little more specific? What do you mean the character freezes in place? Is it the game that freezes, or can you see animation, or at least turn (without actually advancing)? If it's something similar, and coupled with your sentence "the connection seems to disintegrate", I suspect you are suffering of high lag spikes (the process where your internet connection is stumbling so the game can't update with the server). This has nothing to do with the game itself, rather than with the connection (Could be your end, could be the ISP, could be Anet servers, could be a problem midway). If you reinstalled and everything, no file can be corrupted. I suspect lag. --talk Large 16:38, 21 April 2011 (UTC)
I hear ya Master....Over the last few weeks the lag has gotten progressivly worse. I'm lucky sometimes if I can complete a mission or map because it lag's me out and disconnects me. I know it's not my router, ISP or anything I've tested it all and I do not lose my connection to anything else, just GW. Their server's must be having some issues. I've actually switched myself to the european servers for now because, even though I'm in South Dakota, they are giving me little trouble compared to the American servers. Critical Agility

How does critical agility work regarding the additional armor? Does it add armor to each piece, spread it evenly amongst all pieces, or is it random? For example, max sunspear (+25 armor), how does that armor get distributed?--74.128.184.252 20:45, 21 April 2011 (UTC)

The armor boost is applied to whichever armor piece is randomly chosen to take the hit. The same is true for any skill or weapon that boosts armor. Also note that multiple skills that give armor boosts will only stack to a maximum of 25, unless one skill gives more than 25, in which case only that one skill's armor boost will take effect. Chalice of Corruption

Running Rain Cloud -- She has been poisoned and has a green glow all the time and loses life force when outside a town or outpost. How can I fix this?

You have it because you finished the quest Drink from the Chalice of Corruption. To remove it you have to do the quest Masters of Corruption. Roar! Poki#3 (talk) 14:29, 24 April 2011 (UTC)

Connection

Okay i'm having troubles with my connection to this wiki page, gw homesite and all servers except for European ones. I have never had this problem before. Basicly, it now takes 30 seconds to load a town in American districts for example i have constant 700-1.5k ping and i have trouble to get on this wiki as i mentioned. About once a week i access gw2 homesite gw homesite and this wiki. European servers run very smoothly for me as always. I have a very stable connection to European ones but no others. Any tips on how to fix this? Edit: Only this game is it like this on. --The preceding unsigned comment was added by User:KoffefSwe (talk).

The game and the wiki are run on separate servers, so they have nothing to do with each other. The slow loading on the wiki has been pointed out and passed on to the proper people at GWW:BUG. The slower connection you're having in-game may be caused by the distance you are attempting to connect over. If you live in Europe, your connection to those servers should be better than your connection to servers outside of Europe. G R E E N E R 16:14, 24 April 2011 (UTC)

Guardian Title not working

I have completed all the HM missions, plus all the bonuses, in Elona, with Dasha Vestibule mission last, however the title is not updating, and is stuck at 19/20 missions. I have tried staying logged out for about 30 mins, and that hasn't changed anything. Any ideas anyone?--Sage Talk 04:07, 27 April 2011 (UTC)

Well, have you done Chabek Village (if you are non-elonian)? Other ones are the three split missions. --JonTheMon 04:09, 27 April 2011 (UTC)
Yeah, that's the first one I checked. I have all the split missions done as well. --Sage Talk 04:16, 27 April 2011 (UTC)
This happened to me...and it turned out there was one I was missing. I took the list of mish off the wiki and checked each one individually. One time, it was something in Torment. The other was one of the split missions.  — Tennessee Ernie Ford (TEF) 05:11, 27 April 2011 (UTC)
List of Nightfall missions and primary quests. Go through the list and check if you have everything that's bolded. Roar! Poki#3 (talk) 00:26, 28 April 2011 (UTC)
I've gone through that several times now, and I have completed all of them. Just to check I've also entered all the missions in HM, and the HM icon in the status monitor for each says I have credit for it towards the guardian title. --Sage Talk 04:38, 28 April 2011 (UTC)
Contact support; I believe they have assisted others in a similar situation. (What I would probably do is to take screens showing the 3-sword icon for each mish and upload them next to my checklist, if only to prove to myself that all the bonuses are completed. But you don't need to do that in order to contact support about this.) Good luck.  — Tennessee Ernie Ford (TEF) 05:27, 28 April 2011 (UTC)
The "HM" indicator is not telling you what you think it is. That's the vanquish icon, which just means that there's nothing to vanquish when you're in a mission. That does not mean that you have completed the mission at any level, especially not at the master's level. ETA: I'm curious, too, so if it's not too much trouble, take screenshots of all the mission icons (support would probably appreciate those, if you choose to go that route) and upload them here. -- FreedomBoundUser Freedom Bound Sig.png 12:16, 28 April 2011 (UTC)
Off hand I say you are missing the bonus for either Kodonur Crossroads, Tihark Orchard, or Moddok Crevice. My bet is on Kodonur Crossroads. --DaveBaggins 11:20, 1 May 2011 (UTC)

Rank

I'm wanting to know how to raise norn and vanguard reputation points. Like running or farming, or what??? To get ranked up faster. please and thank you. 99.252.163.223 20:09, 30 April 2011 (UTC)

There's a bunch of ways to raise points, some easier, some more efficient than others. Norn rank and Ebon Vanguard rank are both good places to start, or try a simple Google search (there are threads on the subject on various fansite forums, and sites like PvX have builds for vanquishing or "speedbooking", which is another popular method for farming points). --User Jioruji Derako logo.png Jïörüjï Ðērākō.>.cнаt^ 22:29, 30 April 2011 (UTC)
