After talking to Sif, you will be taken to an empty Sifhalla, where after a short period of time, the Glacial Griffon will spawn. Defeat it and you will be returned to town to turn in the quest.
The Glacial Griffon has natural health regeneration and brings a combination of zoning-spirits that can shutdown a wide variety of builds and deal plenty of damage. The Griffon uses the terrain to best of its advantage.
- Highest threats
- Shadowsong shuts down martial-based professions.
- Dissonance shuts down spellcaster-based professions.
- Bloodsong causes life stealing that bypass most damage reduction skills.
- At melee range, the Griffon deals significant amounts of damage.
The Griffon has no self healing or energy management skills; if you can bypass its natural regeneration, its frequent use of Ritual Lord means that it will end up killing itself. Use a flatbow and attack it at range.
With at least rank 3 in the Ebon Vanguard Title Track, use the sniper to apply bleeding (and a potential spike), the assassin for snares, and Signet of Infection to add disease. As with the other builds, keep out of reach of the spirits and the Griffon and let degeneration do the work for you.
Maximize Illusion and Inspiration magics and then your primary attribute (if helpful). Otherwise, the build works the same as above: Start out far away using Mantra. Apply the hexes and run. Wait for Dissonance to die and repeat.
After the Griffon has used all spirits, spam the griffon with wastrels while dodging. The 1/4 cast of both skills means the spirits can't hit you so you shouldn't need a snare or heal. Primary assassins can use Shadow Sanctuary or Feigned Neutrality other professions can use "You Move Like a Dwarf!".
Maximize Blood magic, bring a self heal like Signet of Lost Souls + fill the attribute it uses. Keep Life Siphon up, spam Necrosis and use knockdowns as necessary to evade the griffon.
The arena has many corpses already so let them kill the Griffon. Just spam Barbs.
Max Marksmanship and Wilderness Survival, and from the top of the hill use a longbow or flatbow to degenerate it to death with the skills brought. Other useful skills could be Lacerate or Signet of Infection.
Max Channeling magic and set up spirits. Use YMLAD to kite the Griffon, move around the area to escape the Griffon spirits and draw the Griffon in to your spirits. Use any Ritualist or Primary skills to augment damage and healing.
List of Primary-profession builds
Use Dwarven Stability on recharge throughout the fight, Gladiator's & Bonetti's Defense to maintain constant block, and both ripostes as often as you can. Use Signet of Infection after Deadly Riposte. Take either Sliver Armor and 12 in Earth Magic, or 12 in Swordsmanship to deal damage with your weapon attacks.
Always keep 1 of the 3 block skills on and flee from the Griffon's spirits, using Bonetti's Defense to block them.
This skill bar takes advantage of Poison Tip Signet, Burning Arrow, and Hunter's Shot to inflict health degeneration, plus Toxicity to double the effect of poison, allowing for the full -10 degen. As all of these skills depend on either Beast Mastery or Marksmanship, this build could be brought on any player, but rangers will find it more effective due to the energy cost decrease provided by Expertise. To complete the quest, you can easily apply the degeneration with a longbow and quickly move out of range from the griffon to avoid taking damage. Bringing a pet to tank damage can work, but keep in mind that it can quickly die to the summoned spirits.
Use the first three skills on recharge. Let the spirits hit you as much as possible and stand next to the griffon while whirling defense is active. Heal when necessary with Shadow Refuge. Use Heart of Shadow and Death's Charge in the Whirling Defense downtime.
Move into range of the 6 exploitable corpses near the griffon & make some minions. Move to where the griffon spawns so that the minions body block it completely. Use Barbs on the griffon, and minions benefit from the bonuses of the Standard of Honor, so set the ward up around the griffon. Use Death Nova on dying minions for that extra kick.
- You may wish to bring a skill to inflict weakness such as Enfeebling Blood.
Summon 6-8 minions while you wait for the Griffon to appear. Use Blood of the Master to heal your minions and lower your own health, then use Grenth’s Balance to quickly damage the Griffon and heal yourself. Once he's too low on health for you to use Grenth's Balance on it any further, finish it off with "Finish Him!" and Ebon Vanguard Assassin Support.
- Bring a self heal to use when the Grenth's Balance stops healing you.
- Alternatively, bring Spoil Victor instead of Grenth's Balance and Blood of the Master.
Maintain Illusion of Pain on the griffon, following up with Cry of Pain. Replenish your energy with Energy Drain and snare the griffon if it gets too close for comfort.
Similar to the / version, this variant sacrifices some Inspiration Magic for Energy Storage. Alternate between the glyphs based off your need for energy or health when you cast the conjures on the Griffon. Use "You Move Like a Dwarf!" to escape when the Griffon begins to pursue. Don't let the Griffon near you, and avoid prolonged aggro of the spirits.
This variant utilizes Water Magic skills to subsequently snare and damage the Griffon, allowing time to escape before taking damage from the Griffon or spirits.
Although potentially viable for any primary profession, Energy Storage increases the effectiveness of this set-up greatly. Second Wind will remove the need for additional energy management and healing due to the slowly-increasing Overcast value. Cast Second Wind until you have roughly 30% of your energy bar locked away prior to engaging. Initiate the battle by casting 2-3-4-5 before kiting out of the spirits' range. Via Burning and other sources of armor-ignoring damage the Griffon should fall without much effort after that. Be sure to continue to kite away from spirits, or use Ebon Vanguard Assassin Support for a mix of extra damage and a distraction to move around safely. The burning from Mark of Rodgort can be triggered with a Fiery bow, or spells such as Immolate and Flare, to apply near-constant degeneration. Should you lose aggro, note that Ritual Lord triggers health loss and thus interrupts any added natural regeneration the Griffon might be enjoying.
Move to where the griffon lands and use skills 5-8 in that order. Attack the griffon as soon as it turns hostile. While attacking, you have a 94% chance to block attacks, and deal damage to the spirits at the same time. With 16 dagger mastery and 13 critical strikes, your health should never drop below 80%, and if Shadowsong manages to hit you, Assassin's Remedy will remove it. The optional slot should be used for an improved chance for critical hits, an automatic critical hit like Malicious Strike, or a self-heal of some kind, preferably Shadow Sanctuary.
Get out of range of the griffon on the hill to the south and begin casting Boon of Creation followed the spirits in order. Hit the griffon with Painful Bond and Gaze of Fury if a spirit makes it through your Dissonance.
Stand at the top of the hill, use Poison Tip Signet, then Anthem of Flame & Signet of Aggression. Use Barbed Spear on the Griffon and then retreat back up the hill with Natural Stride. If the griffon gets too close, use Maiming Spear and continue running away until it is safe to use Troll Unguent.
Use Pain Inverter on the griffon, letting it attack you until your health is low, then use Grenth's Balance. Run around with "Fall Back" during the time Grenth's Balance is recharging. When it is recharged, let it attack you again and use Grenth's Balance again. Repeat this to nearly kill it and then use your Ebon Vanguard skills to finish it off.
Maintain Grenth's Aura, Onslaught, Attacker's Insight and Vow of Piety throughout the fight. Wait until the griffon sets up its spirits, and pull it away from the spirits with a bow out of range of Shadowsong. Attack the griffon until it uses Shadowsong again - and then run away with Harrier's Haste. Repeat until it dies.
Set Earth Prayer 12, Mysticism 10. Cast Balthazar's Spirit before engaging. Stand still. Cast Extend Enchantments and Mirage Cloak as long as they recharge. Maintain Mystic Regenration throughout the fight. Use Grenth's Fingers and Twin Moon Sweep when health goes low. Use Aura of Thorns and Mystic Sandstorm to attack griffon. The more spirits griffon summons the safer you are.
After trying every build I've found on internet for 3~4 hours, I concluded that the worst profession to kill the griffon is Dervish. It is a bit longer but just play D/Me will do the job. You start by your Avatar, you send as much as you can your hex, you run away from the Griffons spirits using the map for hidding and you find good opportunities to apply your hex. Patience, try to interrupt when Griffon try to put some spirits and "voila".
