What Are We Supposed to Do?
isnt it a bit far away? 2009 JUST for the beta and if were lucky Q4 2009 GW2 might be released? seriously what are we supposed to do? make do with what we have? i mean im almost tempted to buy wow 24.9.238.102 06:01, 4 August 2008 (UTC)
- That's a question only you can answer, unfortunately. If WoW does it for you, then sure! Don't feel disloyal for playing other games in the interim - GW is only so big a game. ANet won't mind, especially if you return for GW2 when it's done. :) -- Sirius (talk) 13:01, 4 August 2008 (UTC)
- Savage, Trackmania Nations, Rakion, there's many free games that can keep you busy at least for some time, but don't, don't mention WoW again. - Y0_ich_halt 15:10, 4 August 2008 (UTC)
- Take this to my talk page Y0, but I'm curious as to what you have against WoW. (I, myself having many things) --Wolf 15:21, 4 August 2008 (UTC)
- Well thats just it, ive done everything there is to do and im left with that. I've beaten all the games on hard mode, ive vanquished all there is to vanquish, i have 7 level 20 characters and full obsidian armor for all of them, ive vleared the UW and FoW, ive beaten all elite missions, ive maxed out titles to the point of "My Guild Hall Smells of Rich Mahogany" and 3 titles away from "God Walking Amongst Mere Mortals" on my main, ive gotten legendary defender of ascalon on my monk, and legendary survivor on my dervish. ive got tons of cash and nothing to do with it and im just lost. is there anything i can look forward to from now till guild wars 2?24.9.238.102 20:20, 4 August 2008 (UTC)

- You're doing too much. Have some fun! From what it sounds like you've been doing a lot of grinding. Just play the game. I personally have done Vizunah Square well over 150 times simply because I love that mission. Just find something that you have fun with and do that, methinks. -- Wandering Traveler 20:36, 4 August 2008 (UTC)
- I have the time to be a hardcore player like that, but I'm not. I play casualy, and I just recently became Kind-of a Big deal, maxing some of the easiest titles to max. This leaves me plenty ot do until GW2 rolls around =D --Wolf 20:39, 4 August 2008 (UTC)

(RI) My advice would be to stop playing the game. Really. To stop playing Guild Wars does not mean you don't like the game, or that Arena Net failed in entertaining you, or anything along these lines. I like to compare Guild Wars to a book - when people finish reading a book, do they keep reading it over and over every day, or do they put it aside, coming back once in a while for their favourite parts, and wait for the sequel? Same thing with movies - I don't know anyone who kept watching the Star Wars original trilogy every day while waiting for the prequels (and if someone did that, I really feel bad for him/her : P).
If you have done everything you wanted to do in GW1, and you had fun doing so...Congrats for beating the game (at least for you). If you really had a good time and if GW2 becomes a game interesting to you, I'm sure you'll come back, even if you never play GW1 again. The idea that "out of sight, out of mind" has always been a gross underestimation of people, IMO. Erasculio 20:54, 4 August 2008 (UTC)
- Erasculio speaks the truth. I haven't been able to play for 5+ months now, and when I could still play GW I found it pretty boring and stale, but now that I had to take a break, I actually want to play again. Before the only reason I logged on was to chat & PvP, even though that was pretty boring to me aswell sometimes.
- So yeah, just take a break :P -- Mini Me 21:19, 4 August 2008 (UTC)
- There are many other good games out there, enjoy one or two of those for a bit =D --Wolf 21:25, 4 August 2008 (UTC)
- From what I understand GWAMM requires some fairly grindy/expensive titles (drunkard, party animal, seeker of wisdom, stuff like that) to max, hence why it isn't so easy to get the last three titles or so. But I suppose for those with too much money to spare it is an option... and LDoA is definitely way worse. -- Sirius (talk) 22:41, 4 August 2008 (UTC)
- you could always go and max account titles. gladiator is hecka easy now, specially if you're used to grinding. i'm still dreaming of a maxed gamer title, but as long as i know i'm not gonna grind wintersday and dragon arena enough to get that, i'll keep my tier two with Pro Skillz. the others sound ugly. - Y0_ich_halt 22:47, 4 August 2008 (UTC)
- well i thank you guys for at least replying, and as far as maxed account titles ive maxed out most of them account titles, and ive done prettymuch everything. but ive got a better question. whats all this hard work gonna be worth? sure u can display ur titles, and armor. but all that says is thatuve played the other game tooo much, and you cant even display any weapon. your forced to display the butt ugly destroyer weapons, and i heard something about tormented weapons but i havnt checked lately. and all i have to say about tht is WTF!?!?111 arena.net...24.9.238.102 16:17, 6 August 2008 (UTC)
- As well as what they said, learn to loooooove PvP, otherwise just take a break and come back. Good luck in... umm... searching your soul *cough*. Cheesecake 10:34, 7 August 2008 (UTC)

- So, I wanted to leave this for a bit to see what other folks had to say. I agree with many of the comments here. With any experience, there's a lifespan, and for each of us, that lifespan is probably a bit different. Some play through our games a time or two and feel that's enough for them. Others play through with each character variation or every profession, or they try for a few titles, or for every title (or every miniature :) ) , and for them, that's the right choice. I don't think any single game will last every gamer for a lifetime, nor should it! Some folks play daily, some play monthly, some step away for a year. It's all good.
- If you look at the game that folks bought in 2005 and compare it to the game now, more than three years later, there is much more to do and experience now. And we keep refreshing content in interesting ways -- yesterday's update is proof -- but it wouldn't be realistic or fair to expect unlimited new content. Even the games that charge $15/month don't do that! ;) So if you feel that you've "been there/done that" and if you're not inspired to log into the game at the present time, then it's perfectly ok to step away. Having enjoyed Guild Wars, you'll probably consider coming back later for Guild Wars 2. And you may find that taking a break reinvigorates you in the short term, and that you enjoy getting back into Tyria, Cantha, and Elona in a few weeks or months. -- Gaile 18:14, 8 August 2008 (UTC)
- There's plenty of games that I've put down, never played again, and got all excited when the sequel came out. GW has a high level of replay value, which is great, but there's nothing wrong with playing other games until GW2. -- Alaris 18:31, 8 August 2008 (UTC)
Updates? I love updates! Drinks all around!
Lol@the Pirates reference. Anyway, I have a few flasks of Firewater if you would like them Gaile. I had quite a bit of fun with the trap-door tonic, that was fun stuff. --Wolf 14:01, 8 August 2008 (UTC)
Tonics!
I was archiving today, and thought "This is too fun to just tuck away into a closet!" so I moved the tonic predictions we've been having with off my user page and made a new one. If you want to join in guessing the upcoming tonics, head to Tonic guesses to add your thoughts. Note: This is not an official page; I'm not forwarding requests or giving game-related information. (After all, tonics are seldom Support-related. :) ) The page is just one wacky wiki member's idea of fun. You are, of course, cordially invited to join in, if you'd care to do so. :) -- Gaile 20:46, 9 August 2008 (UTC)
PUNCH-OUT TIME!!!
Gaile, I recently have gotten Eye of The North, and I've heard Kilroy Stonekin's Punch-Out Extravaganza is a good way to farm gold and ales, but I can't even get past the first boss, any suggestions? Beriya of Newts 6:43/12August/2008
- So, uh, why are you asking the Support Liaison? This isn't a support issue and this isn't the place to ask that kind of thing. All the info you need is on the Dwarven Brawling page, and if your bad enough that that isn't enough, you can ask your question here and hope for a more detailed reply. — Teh Uber Pwnzer 11:22, 12 August 2008 (UTC)
- I'm pretty sure the OP's just asking Gaile as a fellow GW player. And, as quoted from the very top of this page, "This page is for casual discussions and chit-chat -- all are welcome!". Kokuou 13:41, 12 August 2008 (UTC)
- It's been a while, but I think if you just ignore the block, and spam the rest giving priority to the rightmost available skills, you should be fine. You need to charge them up with adrenaline (using the leftmost skills not including block), and as soon as they are available, use them. If you get knocked down, press the keyboard key '8' and click with the mouse on the skill 'stand up' like a crazy chicken, until you're back in the fight. Random Request
Yo, I herd u liek pirates. I made this profession for a wiki competition and the only criticism I'm getting is because he's a pirate. Popular belief would suggest you enjoy both pirates and Guild Wars, so I thought you might be interested in giving us some feedback. The content is intimidatingly large so its up to you. In any case; much love, Spawn Legacy 12:49, 23 August 2008 (UTC)
- I think it's an interesting proposition. I am fond of pirates, it's true, probably due to my childhood obsession with Pirates of the Caribbean. That started well before the movies and before Johnny Depp in his key role, but quite frankly, Mr. Depp only made the obsession all that much more enchanting. <3 (Don't get me started on throwing a shoe at my TV when he was robbed for his Academy Award for his role as Captain Jack Sparrow! I haven't been that upset since The Fellowship of the Ring was passed over in favour of a fairly mediocre addition to Hollywood's favourite movie genre: The Movie about a Crazy and/or Emotionally Ill Person. *yawn*)
- As for feedback, I would say that the skills and abilities of a pirate need to reflect what he is, perhaps not a cutthroat, but someone who creatively treads the line between moral and amoral, not-so-good and outright evil. There's a Pirate's Code, after all... which might make a marvelous skill name, come to think of it. :)
- Anyway, I do wish you well with the competition, and hope to see equally refined input on a lot of other cool profession ideas. -- Gaile 02:11, 24 August 2008 (UTC)
- I just wrote a massive essay but the internet stuffed up -.- Take two.
- Thankyou muchly, me lady. Don't you worry about the profession's disposition. I have a concept set deep within my mind. cue essay I was thinking PotC and One Piece when I made it. I emphasised the pirate's recklessness by giving him crappy armour but a desire for hand to hand combat. I wanted diversity (One Piece) so I made him not only capable but more effective when running S/ Necro, Mesmer, Warrior, Paragon, Ranger or Monk. Removed critical hits to incite the ever entertaining Pirates vs Ninjas. He's light on his feet, jovial, insanely skilled with a sword, lacking tactics, raw power and desire to kill but deceptively invincible nevertheless (Jack Sparrow <3) As you said, the pirates aren't all that bad so I gave him a choice between Trickery and support. I tried to give him a positive role but, at the same time, I thought it would be entertaining to present that role in a conceited light. Thus Conviction. Thankyou for the only constructive criticism I've gotten so far. I'll make some Conviction skills more positive. Background info aside, I just wanted a more fun/skilled whammo and something that would bring that astounding communal creativity, we haven't seen since Prophecies, back into the game. </essay> Sorry about that. I'm proud and enjoy talking immensely.
- Thankyou for making me think Gaile. A lot of what I just said, only became apparent just now. There's so much work still to do but, at the moment, I'm having too much fun to care about winning. I'm tempted to make 'Pirate Code' an exception on my balance policy but I'll resist. Don't expect it too soon tho, I'm preoccupied with my soul crushing job. Hire me, plz :P Much love, Spawn Legacy 16:16, 24 August 2008 (UTC) rushsshhs g'night Oh! PS New professions.. ergh, I'm so overworked atm but its fun. I'll keep thinking.

Gaile, do you want it or not?--FireTock 17:33, 23 August 2008 (UTC)
- Hi, Fire Tock. I read your message and got right into the game, and I did speak with your brother. I was on a character without storage access or gold, and I didn't know the right offer to make for the mini, so I stepped away to do a price check and transfer gold. I think I was gone too long -- got delayed because someone wanted to ask me how to report a player-abuse situation -- and anyway, he wasn't online when I got back. I'm really sorry about that. Please tell him to go ahead and sell the miniature because I just don't want to take any more of his time making him wait. I apologize the the delay and the situation. -- Gaile 20:28, 23 August 2008 (UTC)

On similar lines, I'm not sure who's responsible for the update notices, but you might want to take another look at Pikin being rescued from his "captives". A .ini file
Hi Gaile, I was wondering if there was a possibility of adding a .ini file containing command line parameters for Gw.exe, so we can take .bmp screenshots, for instance, or auto-login, while using TexMod (which doesn't support parameters). — Ebañy Salmonderiel 16:32, 22 September 2008 (UTC)
- Hi, there. I understand what you're suggesting and was wondering if you might want to place that request on the Suggestions page. That seems the best place to get a review as a possible addition to the "To do" list. -- Gaile 17:10, 22 September 2008 (UTC)
- If your suggestion is dismissed you can always write a programm that build the command line matching your .ini file and automaticaly launch guildwars with the generated command line. I wouldn't be surprised that a user already wrote one. Yseron - 90.9.252.190 19:35, 22 September 2008 (UTC)

Hello again :) Today i found your old account on our fansite Wartower. If the informations are correct, your birthday was last month. I wish you happy belated birthday :D
I'm planning to donate you a miniature which you desire. How about a cute white rabbit? --Maria Murtor 21:14, 22 September 2008 (UTC)

I have wanted the white rabbit since I first saw him, and I would love to have him, of course. I shall want to find something that I can trade for him, though. We should meet soon! :) -- Gaile 07:42, 24 September 2008 (UTC)

Agent Gray...
..It's time The Paw made one more step twards world domination, and you're just our agent to do it. You'll go in alone, as you're the only one qualified to fufill this task, and the only one with the required inside access and trusted with-in the Arenanet organization. Your mission, should you choose to accept it is simple this: you must plant the paw into the registry of guild cape icons. Your our best agent, and I'm confident you can pull this off. - Hmmmm... there is a pawprint guild cape, I know that. But is it The Paw? I think not! However, could we -- any of us -- infiltrate the Guild Emblemer Union and surreptitiously substitute the paw for The Paw? It would be a very risky challenge, and s/he who undertook it might not come out alive, for those guild emblemers are a protective sort and don't look kindly upon intrusion into their enclave. On the other hand, it is a tasty notion...

Ah, whats the heck. Hold on to your hats ladies and gentalmen, this is about to get PHYSICAL! If ever action as an equal and opposite reaction, than does every movement of the Anti-Paw league cancel out every movement of The Paw league? If the hot gasses leaving a rocket push on the orcket, propelling it forward, and the rocket pushes back, why do they not cancel each-other out if they are equal and opposite to one another? — Wolf 21:20, 24 September 2008 (UTC)
- *pssst* The expulsion and propulsion are obviously not equal, hence Mr. Newton's Theory is not applicable. -- Gaile 22:13, 24 September 2008 (UTC)
- Actualy, I learned this in my AP Physics class today, The gases push on the rocket propels it forward, and the equal and opposite reaction propels of the orcket pushing on the gases propels them out the back of the rocket, like two positive ends of a magnet put close to one-another. In order for the two forces to cancel one another out, both the gases and the rocket would have to exert a force on themselves equal and opposite to the force the other is exerting on eachother. Things can't exert a force on themselves, thus you would have to break physics in order for the net-force on both the gases and the rocket to equal zero. Follow? — Wolf 22:23, 24 September 2008 (UTC)
- I neglected something. The instant the gases leave the end of the rocket, they are traveling at the same speed as the rocket, but in the opposite direction. Now, they don't continue to move this quickly, as friction takes effect quite quickly, as a gas molecule has very little mass, and as a result, very little momentum to counter-act the forces of friction, and neither does it have a constant acceleration like the rocket. — Wolf 22:26, 24 September 2008 (UTC)

Conversation in Ascalon about using exploits?
Hello Gaile. A user of our fanpage posted some screenshts today. A char with the name "Admin Gaile" is showed with a other player. They are talking about using exploits. My question is now: Is that char one of yours, or is it a big fake? http://img391.imageshack.us/img391/5185/bewei2ct5.jpg --Maria Murtor 12:07, 5 October 2008 (UTC)
- Gaile's characters are listed on her userpage. "Admin Gaile" isn't on there so I assume its not one of her characters and I can only assume its someone impersonating her (something that AFAIK is very naughty). If you ever see someone pretending to be an admin again, just ask them to use admin chat to prove it. Admin chat is AFAIK pink.- TheRave (talk) 14:03, 5 October 2008 (UTC)
- That's right, but Gaile posted that she has about 40 chars and normaly you cant use "Admin" in your name. It's forbidden... --Maria Murtor 14:11, 5 October 2008 (UTC)
- Another question is, what are you doing in pre with those skills? Anet gently asked everyone who took adventage of the GH exploid to get their chars out of pre. Failed to do so will result in a ban (not sure about the ban part). --MageMontu 14:39, 5 October 2008 (UTC)

So I don't think I can solve the mystery of that shot. -- Gaile 01:10, 8 October 2008 (UTC)
- W = Waldläufer (german for Ranger) and as far as i see, the shield is marked out --The preceding unsigned comment was added by User:62.116.73.210 (talk).
- Of course, thank you! The W does mean "Ranger" in the German language. I think we were all expecting the letters to be the ones we might see in English, which was a little English-centric of us. :)
- As to the "X" out on the shield, I went back and looked at it twice more, and I did finally see that it had the red circle. The red (on my monitor, anyway) blends so much into the shield's colours, and the round shape conforms to the shield shape so well, I did not see that "X" out even in many viewings. Thanks, 62, I am glad to know things are not as odd as they at first appeared! -- Gaile 01:44, 8 October 2008 (UTC)

- Oh, wow, we're dumb.
- Yes, the shield is marked out, but it's very faint. It took me a minute to see it.
- Honestly, I suspect a private server or some such, if not a flat-out photoshop. It wouldn't be too hard to make a character whose name length is similar to that of "Admin Gaile", rush it outside before people noticed (and possibly reported), and edit the name a bit. It'd be easier than shoving over all of the text, what with the transparent background. -- Armond Warblade{{Bacon}} 01:44, 8 October 2008 (UTC)
- The thing with privat server is, they are mirrows of the true GW, and i doubt that they are up to date to the fire imp; and you see people trading, a) with the uncensored you can or can't add them in real gw and b) why should people search for dyes on a privat server? and,Armond Warblade, it's not only the name, the armor is as imposible as the name --The preceding unsigned comment was added by User:62.116.73.210 (talk).
Alpha Tests
Hi again Gaile! I would say BOW DOWN TO ME! in a very graspy voice, but youre Gaile, so the King excuses you.
Im not sure if this is the right place to put it, but heck.
I understand the Alpha tests are by invitation only. How might anyone acquire such an invitation? The King wishes to know what the future will look like. His new Portallica 500 (time travel) is being made, but he would like a little insight.
Thanks for everything Gaile, --Burning Freebies 15:53, 24 September 2008 (UTC)
- Hi, Burning Freebies. The former Guild Wars Alpha Test was by invitation only, that's true. Sometimes we invited individual players, occasionally we invited a full guild. Some testers stayed a long time -- through all four development cycles -- and some found the process wasn't for them and chose to move on. The Alpha Test group was never particularly large, and that was best for many reasons.
- I cannot say what the prospects are for an alpha test for Guild Wars 2. You're welcome to ping other ArenaNet staff members to ask, of course, but I am nearly positive that plans have not been made for that sort of testing at this point. -- Gaile 19:56, 24 September 2008 (UTC)

- What would be really nice of Arenanet would be to allow 100 members into testing. All they need to do is ping the Arenanet staff an they are on the list. I think that may work. But if they dont let people into Alpha tests, whats the point? Thanks Gaile!--Burning Freebies 17:51, 25 September 2008 (UTC)
- @ Silverleaf, there's probably a lot of different reasons people stop participating in an Alpha or Beta. Some are probably just like those that make players leave a game at any point in it's lifecycle. Other things may be the sudden and abrupt changes a game will go through, the possibility and how frequent character wipes happen, frustration over the amount of bugs that may plague a player. Also people might find the Nondiclosure agreements not to their liking, or too strict for them to want to, or be able to follow. 75.146.48.190 22:38, 25 September 2008 (UTC)
- Often I get the feeling that some players see Alfa testing as being just a demo of the game (not that anyone in this discussion is doing so; that's just a generic observation). I think being an alfa tester is very different from being a player - each person is expected to test as much as possible, often doing things that go beyond normal play (for example, playing through the same area multiple times in a row, if asked to do so) and also having to convey the playing experience to the developers in a coherent and ideally insightful way. Basically a work - a work that may be fun for those who like testing and etc, but not necessarily fun for someone who just wants to play the game. Erasculio 00:22, 26 September 2008 (UTC)

- From my experience doing software system, alpha and beta testing in business it would be very difficult to plan and organise an efficient alpha testing period with external people. I don't have experience with games testing but I'm sure it is similar alpha testing requires as many of the millions of the possible variations to be tested systematically.- TheRave (talk) 18:45, 27 September 2008 (UTC)
- My apologies: I overwrote a few edits, but I think they are all back in place now! -- Gaile 19:06, 27 September 2008 (UTC)
- I'm not entirely sure whether alpha testing is the same thing as QA testing, but if so, yeah that's usually pretty difficult to do with external people. From what I understand the point of beta is usually balancing and stress-testing; anything before that is largely bug-squishing. -- Sirius (talk) 00:02, 28 September 2008 (UTC)
- Alpha testing and QA testing have some similarities, but quite a few differences. The Guild Wars Alpha Test started in 2002. We had an external test group for all three campaigns, and for the expansion pack as well, and I think having those folks involved was a good thing on many levels. As I mentioned above, some testers carried over, some were in place for just a campaign or two. Some were more active than others. Some testers were focused on the game as a whole where others concentrated more specifically on certain elements or mechanics. Overall, I'd say it was a good project. I managed the program for the first couple of years, then Andrew Patrick handled it for the last year or so. We both enjoyed doing that very much. Of course, the devs had the final say on participants (joining and/or remaining) and on processes, schedules, and test objectives.

- I truly don't know what plans we have as far as testing in the future. Whether there will be an Alpha or a Beta Test, whether there will be events, spot tests, etc., I just don't know. In fact, I would imagine that final decisions on this have not been made. I would imagine that our Support Team members will be involved in testing, just as I'm sure other NCsoft folks would be. However, testing the game wouldn't be a major focus for team members because they have a lot of other tasks that need prompt attention, including answering your tickets and reports. :) -- Gaile 20:31, 28 September 2008 (UTC)

- I guess if I thought about it, aside from the skins that I think are attractive, the bows that I covet most are the ones that my Level 7 could never hope to get. Ok, ok, so she couldn't hope to get just about any Green, I do admit that! :D
- But yes, Tormented for certain. Also, on the unique bows page, there are a few that look really tasty, like the Bow of the Kinslayer and the Seedborn Flatbow plus those named for Petraj, Saushali, and Boulderbeard. (I bet I missed a couple there, too.) Anyway, looking at that list, it turns out I am not too far away from having all the greens, which is just terrific! -- Gaile 18:52, 16 October 2008 (UTC)

- Ah, Tesla, what a great sounding event! Halloween is my favourite holiday. Or it is until Wintersday rolls around and I start thinking maybe that one is. :) Anyway, I'm so pleased to receive your invitation, and I am looking forward to seeing you and all the crew during the weekend. - Ok, not endemic, but certainly indigenous. And hey, my mother knitted me a sweater/jumper with a red maple leaf in the center because I was such a hockey fan. (It was confusing, as I was a Kings fan and I nearly got mugged from time to time when the Purple and Gold/Blue and Black/Whatever colour they use this year thought I was touting the Toronto team.) After all, while not endemic, we know hockey is Canada, eh? :) -- Gaile 03:14, 24 October 2008 (UTC)

Heya Gaile
Heya Gaile,
Just wanted to so hi to you(maybe because I'm a bit bored atm :P), I really hope we can talk again sometime soon :) So, how are ya doing? How's work? etc etc etc :p
Greetings Dutch Sunshine 23:06, 23 October 2008 (UTC)
- Hallo Dutch. I'm doing well, thanks for asking. Very happy to have just sorted out a preplexing XTH issue this evening; getting to tell people they are getting more points is very nice. (Ok, it's only six people, but still! :) ) I'm also working on other issues -- minor and major -- and helping players every day, which is a sweet thing.
- Haven't seen you lately, how goes?
- Oh and I'm seriously considering a river cruise in your neck of the woods. Amsterdam, Rotterdam, parts of Belgium, many historical sites (I love history!) and more. I'll let you know if I'm making the leap. :) -- Gaile 03:18, 24 October 2008 (UTC)
- You can tell that to me too :p and yeah, helping people is nice, yesterday I hopped on again, and I felt like running to Sanctum Cay again, sadly there was one scammer in my team who left at fishermen :(
- Haven't seen you lately either :p
- Depends on which river you're gonna take, cause else you might not come past my province ;)
- Anyway, we might be able to catch up under the halloween event, cause I know you do love events too :p
- What other things I'm doing? Being second in command in another clan on another game, altough we might be going to expand to different games, one might be GW2, where I'll be taking the lead, ofcourse :) Oh and participating in the Halloween Contest with one of my siggy's :D

- Thanks for the offer of help, Trib. It would be lovely to see you guys again; I'll be sure to let you know if I make those plans. I was in The Netherlands just two years ago, and I loved it. I haven't been to Belgium for a long while and then only Brussels (which I liked, as well). There are some really beautiful places I'd love to see more on the eastern part of the country, and history I'd like to explore, too. - Halloween has a nice decoration, but winterday brings more fun with quests. It is very unfortunate that this event brings only the Costume Brawl and the final with the Mad King. Some quests would be a nice completion for it...
- PS: Hope you will have fun with your rabbit. Sure it is not such amazing like Froggy, but it is the cutest miniature by far. --Maria Murtor 22:06, 26 October 2008 (UTC)

Elementalists
Gaile, I was wondering if you play any eles, and if you do, what do you think of them? I personally love them, cuz I like cooking titans with Lighting Orb. :P--70.71.240.170 06:45, 26 October 2008 (UTC)
- I've played a fair share of Eles, you bet. I always seem to gravitate to the Fire Elementalist, although I've gone Air a few times. I think I have a thing for crispy critters and all the lovely explosions, but lighting isn't half bad. :) I seldom pursue Water and I don't think I've chosen Earth at all. One of my heroes is currently set as a Water Ele, and he does a pretty good job of it. I hate to admit it, but I'm drawn to the profession, in small part, because they're so beautiful and have some of the best outfits in the game. But I like the way they play as well, and I often include one of my ele heroes in my party. (I'm a major fan of Cynn -- think she has a great personality. -- Gaile 07:26, 26 October 2008 (UTC)
- Elementalists rule although it's neigh impossible to find an outfit for them that doesn't make my ele seem like a woman with a very questionable intent. And when you do find one (I've found 2, but I don't gone through all the ele armors yet), they're very unattractive. It's either look like a prostitute or look like you're wearing armor 3 sizes too big in all honesty. Wish Anet would add more realistic designed armor for them instead of just making armor that looks like it was designed to sell copies of the game to 16 year old males. I like revealing ladies too, but not when it's 99% of the options you have. :| DarkNecrid 12:11, 26 October 2008 (UTC)
- I guess you want the Tyrian, the Elite Flameforged, the Norn or the Obsidian, or if you really want to cover up, the Ancient armor .—Lupo(talk) 13:38, 26 October 2008 (UTC)
- Tyrian: ugly. Flameforged: the nets on the arms/legs = weird. Norn: too much like a coat and not armor. Ancient: that looks like a dominatrix, sorry. Just my opinions. This is what I meant though, 3 of the 4 just look heavy. There's such a thing as attractive but not revealing, but none of those come close to both. DarkNecrid 15:40, 26 October 2008 (UTC)
- I agree with your evaluation of the costumes. The Obsidian is the nicest for covering up the female ele but it's the most difficult armor to get. Personally, I don't mind the short skirts .—Lupo(talk) 14:47, 27 October 2008 (UTC)
- Heh I typoed, meant the Obsidian looks like a dominatrix. The Ancient also looks like a coat and not armor. :| I hope they'll improve this facet of Guild Wars in GW2, because the armor for eles is just bad. DarkNecrid 04:33, 28 October 2008 (UTC)

(I'm the IP who started this thing :P) That's cool. I usually play as fire for most of prophs (All my Chars are propecies-born, cuz I'm not aisan or african looking, and I feel weird when my char dosn't look like me) but as soon as I hit Ember Light Camp, I'm solid air. Air dosn't work very well for most of the campaigns, but It's usually killer for final levels. I like it more than fire because I have a penchant for spiking and just mainly seeing guys get crisped by my lightning. Of course, nuking can be fun too. I'm not taking part in the costume brawl this year because the ele's skill set is water, something I haven't mastered yet. I have a Male ele, and I love all outfits for him except his starter prophs one. Plus our dance is a joke. Female eles actually got to DANCE for theirs. later days--70.71.240.170 15:35, 26 October 2008 (UTC)
- Female Vabbian Elementalist armor doesn't look that 'odd' to me, if you know what I mean. And you guys should try Earth Magic some times, it has a bunch of neat spells that can be used both offensively and defensively, and it can pack quite a punch too! 145.94.74.23 12:35, 29 October 2008 (UTC)
- A long time ago, I was more concerned about the armour than I am today. During alpha, I was sort of worried about the whole "Why does that outfit look like a Trick-or-Treat Costume, and not actual armour? But one thing I recognized and respect is that the armours have to have a different look in order to make players readily identifiable by profession, which is particularly relevant in PvP. And the second thing I came realize was the fact the game -- like most games -- isn't about gritty realism and worrying why supposed armour exposes so much thigh. ;) Guild Wars is, after all, a fantasy game, and I appreciate the opportunity to have characters who are drop-dead gorgeous, who have mighty skills and spells, and who play in a world that also lacks "gritty realism" but is, in my opinion, all the better for it. :) -- Gaile 20:33, 2 November 2008 (UTC)
- There IS such a thing as moderation, though. I mean, some of the armours are just too ludicrous to enjoy, even in a fantasy setting. I don't want to run through the Shiverpeaks feeling that my character's limbs might freeze off, and I don't want to play a melee profession feeling that I'm severely under-dressed for the occasion. All those sharp objects near all that exposed flesh? Eep! There's the female playerbase to consider, and over the past 3+ years I've come to realise that it's quite substantial. As it is, a lot of armour cannot really be classified as "artistic", it can only be classified as "catering to the lonely 14-year-old-boys". (Like Elite Luxon for Elementalists.) That does bother me sometimes. I hated my Paragon's Elonian armour because I was essentially treated with view of her underwear the whole time. Maybe that's a bit of a feminist stance taking over, but I do agree with the above stated that some armour is really over the top and I'm sure I'm not the only woman who feels that way. I like armour that suits the profession somehow, and running around on my Ele doesn't make me feel like a prostitute, so I prefer not to look like one. I got Obsidian for mine just so she had something to wear, but it's disappointing that there's not really a lot of choice since most armour is waaaay too skimpy. I know it's not going to change for GW, but I do hope that GW2 will have some better options. Armour per profession can have an overall similar feel without endless reskins or a miniskirt theme.
- With that little rant out of the way... Elementalists are awesome. I really enjoy playing Fire Magic, but I'm known to resort to Air and Earth as well. I really only use Water Magic as support in certain builds. Do you have any favourite Elementalist setup for PvE, Gaile? -- Elv 21:06, 2 November 2008 (UTC)

I'm hoping that in GW2 the robes and dresses flow better and don't look all stiff. Some of the male ele armor would look better and less like a dress if it did this. I'm also hoping that armor and weapons have more animation to them, such as glowing armor. In GW I think that certain maxed titles should also provide some visual change to any armor your character is wearing, especially if you've become a God Walking Amongst Mere Mortals. You don't even get an emote. :(

Question that I'm not really expecting an answer back =P
This question has nothing to do with Guild Wars but I'm wondering from your prospective will Aionbe a good game to buy before the release of GW2 (not asking for any info just a personal point-of-view)? Plus, think you can look around nooks and crannies to see if it will have a monthly fee? I was going to ask you in-game but you seem to have "Do not disturb" =[. -- WoB 02:30, 29 October 2008 (UTC)
- We asked one of the NCSoft guys at PAX whether it would have a monthly fee, and he said it would, but they hadn't figured out just how much it will be. Gaile might be able to provide you with a more detailed answer, though. :D Kokuou 02:37, 29 October 2008 (UTC)
- I hope so xD. I'm just hoping with the release of this game that Anet will make GW2 10 times better by learning from the mistakes of Aion. -- WoB 02:59, 29 October 2008 (UTC)
- You can't learn from a game thats already completely different. I think Anet figured out the few flaws of GW, flaws of other games are pretty irrelevant. Although, I would be interested to hear Gailes opinion of Aion. — Wolf 03:22, 29 October 2008 (UTC)
- Yes, you can learn from the mistakes made by other games that are completely different and the flaws of other games are very relevant. I only have to look as far as the development of Master of Orion III for an example of a game where design followed player feedback far too closely for it's own good, resulting in numerous problems. Guild Wars by contrast has found a good balance of listening to players, but also keeping a fairly cohesive design strategy so as not to get bogged down in feature creep. I'd say a lot of learning from various games - some similar, some very different - went into that. -- WarBlade 04:05, 29 October 2008 (UTC)
- Hmm. Combat system sounds interesting but unfortunately Guild Wars 1 has better visuals, especially in EotN... mostly because the art is better I suspect... -- Sirius (talk) 10:31, 29 October 2008 (UTC)
- Hiya. I wish I could give you a more informative answer on this one, but I confess I have simply not had time to play Aion, even while I believe it will be really good. I've been sort of "burning the midnight oil" with various work projects and... well... frankly I've been farming my little heart out in preparation for the Halloween festival, so my view is solely on Tyria now. ;) I've heard real good things, and I know I was impressed with the look of the game even two years ago at E3 2006, so I am really looking forward to playing Aion. -- Gaile 04:34, 30 October 2008 (UTC)

- You can't learn from a game thats already completely different. I think Anet figured out the few flaws of GW, flaws of other games are pretty irrelevant. Although, I would be interested to hear Gailes opinion of Aion. — Wolf 03:22, 29 October 2008 (UTC)
- I hope so xD. I'm just hoping with the release of this game that Anet will make GW2 10 times better by learning from the mistakes of Aion. -- WoB 02:59, 29 October 2008 (UTC)
Sturdy Recurve Bow
I see that you dont have one in your list, I got one from a Zchest, thought you might be interested? If you are, u can have it:)Megalodon11:40, 29 October 2008 (UTC)
- Hi there. I'm so glad you asked me that question -- I had that bow tucked away on a different account. I brought it over into the right storage spot now. Thanks for the reminder. -- Gaile 04:29, 30 October 2008 (UTC)
Hello from [NUDE]!
It's been a while since I have seen you around. Us in The District Nudists are still plugging away. Thought I would just drop in and say hello. Hope all is well Gaile. Take care. My page is pretty blank atm, really NEW to Wiki. =) Fire Marshal 23:48, 29 October 2008 (UTC)
- Hello, it's great to see you! It has be a while, it's true. What are you guys up to these days? It was always interesting times with your guild. :) -- Gaile 04:30, 30 October 2008 (UTC)
Thanks for attending the Horrorween
Thanks a lot Gaile for dropping by. It means a lot to us. We hope we'll be able to entertain the community with our events for quite a while, so thanks for your support. Pity you didn't see the Wicker Ritual, but there should be videos of it all soon. We also invited you to the after party. Mad Queen Malafide 03:22, 1 November 2008 (UTC)

Halloween Masks
Hey Gaile! Id just like to say how much I adore the Halloween masks! I escpecially like the Lupine one! Great work from Arena Net again! --Burning Freebies 08:51, 1 November 2008 (UTC)
- I wasn't able to get one on the 31.10. because I had absolutely no time. Is there a chance to still get one before the 03.11.? I think being
- able to get a mask only on a specific date is a bit unfair to some people. If you could do anything about it, that would be nice. Kali The Devourer-- 20:51, 1 November 2008 (UTC)
- Your not the first person to miss Halloween and you won't be the last to say this. Unfortunately, ANet's policy hasn't changed, if you missed the kind, you are S.O.L, as it were. Drago 22:18, 1 November 2008 (UTC)
- I agree -- they're really cool. I was happy to get both on two of my accounts, and those extra ToT Bags are right up my alley! :) -- Gaile 20:26, 2 November 2008 (UTC)
The Frog Minis
Hi Gaile! :) I'm wondering about frog minipet with the hat, did you get it along with the original one when you quit your job as community manager or did you get it some days ago as a halloween present? Or is it only the original Frog with another "skin" during the halloween event? I hope you answer this little question, we miss you all, have a nice day :) bye bye --82.82.70.250 21:07, 2 November 2008 (UTC)

It is real confirmed, now go be a naysayer over on the unofficial wiki where they doubted my icon in the first place. lol. - Developers rarely remove outdated content, anyone who has -image has skill info on beta skills in their .dat for example, Auron. Also making a mini is something that doesn't require signifigant effort at all, modifying an already existing model, less so. Unless if you're complaining that a single modeler wasted maybe 15 minutes of his time after work as a waste of developer time and energy (the developers have nothing to do with it, they are not artists.), then I dunno, I guess? It's not like they stopped the press and went...GUYS WE'RE GONNA MAKE A NEW FROG MINIPET! and did nothing else, it's more-than-likely an artist or modeler that is friends with Gaile did it in their spare time, really. DarkNecrid 22:58, 2 November 2008 (UTC)
- Thank you, DarkNecrid. It's true that there was not a huge investment of time in making The Frog, and I know for a fact that some of the minutes spent were given by team members outside of normal working hours, so no loss was incurred by the playerbase as a whole in the creation or execution of the gift. The Frog means a great deal to me, and I will treasure the gift always. -- Gaile 19:43, 3 November 2008 (UTC)

Gaile, for the sake of non-english language wiki(a)s, could it be possible to have the localized names of as well as the translation of the description sentences for both Frogs? I myself would need it in French if that is possible.
I suspect it would be something like La grenouille "Avec toi pour toujours, il est" (in a Yoda-esque speech).
Thanks. Jaxom 05:49, 3 November 2008 (UTC)
- La grenouille Avec vous, toujours il est.... I think... --Shadowphoenix 16:15, 3 November 2008 (UTC)
- Possible since you translate to both tu and vous but sounds an awfully polite way to address another teammember (a context that the translator may have missed though). Jaxom 19:22, 3 November 2008 (UTC)
- I only know what the phrase says in the English language, as displayed on his pages. I am sorry that I am not sufficiently adept in any other language to compose the perfect translation. And since The Frog is unique, there is no need to invest Localization resources in an official translation. (Edit: So I thought -- see below. ;) ) His phrase is expressed in English as The Frog would say it, in his style of speech. Some call it Yoda-like, but I think it's different. It's a semi-archaic form, (Middle-Tyrian instead of Modern-Tyrian; perhaps Canterbury Tales by way of Lion's Arch :D ) a bit on the formal side, with the occasional usage of an odd word or phrase. I mean, honestly, "chapeau" for hats, "abode" for house, "liquid consumables" for booze? :)
- So while Froggie considers himself "an amphibian of the world" I will leave it to you guys to figure out how best to translate his miniature's phrase. -- Gaile 19:44, 3 November 2008 (UTC)
- Ah, I guess no one bothered to include other language support for the inventory text then (makes sense if its only for you but...)? That actually makes it even more rare if this is the case, being one of the few items to only contain English support. I think they were asking if you could like change your GW language to say French, and type out what it says in-game. DarkNecrid 19:57, 3 November 2008 (UTC)
- Well, you just need to temporary set the language for the text in the ingame menus (didn't I suggested you could take French lessons by listening to the French cinematics and you replied you found out that Rurik had a sexy voice last year before your trip to Paris ???) ;)
- Yes, you're right, it's possible those strings weren't translated as they are supposed to be somewhat private to ArenaNet. Argh what a nightmare... :)
- Thanks anyway :D Jaxom 19:59, 3 November 2008 (UTC)
- Oh heavens -- I didn't even think to look! Of course you're right, and here are the translations:
- "Bei Euch immer, er ist." - German
- "Elle sera toujours à vos côtés." – French
- "Siempre estará contigo." – Spanish
- "Con te sempre è." - Italian
- I can add the others ones another day -- I'm rushing to get caught up on a weekend's group of emails, ticket reviews, etc., so a bit pressed for time. Hope this is informative! -- Gaile 20:53, 3 November 2008 (UTC)
- Thanks A LOT Gaile. Though we would need the correct name of the minis, but this can wait for a less pressing time ;). Jaxom 07:15, 4 November 2008 (UTC)
- Oh, so true! Sorry, I didn't think of that. I'll try to nab that soon, you bet. -- Gaile 05:19, 5 November 2008 (UTC)
- Ah, seeing that you are ingame right now, I almost contacted you to remind you about those froggies names. Then I realized you would not know who might have been this character with a French name :D. So this is just a gentle reminder about the localized frog names, thanks.
- Hum, come to think of it, maybe I'll ask you if you are available for some screenshot of the froggies at some point since the current miniature frog images are not under GFDL and thus cannot be copied over to wikia due to licensing issures ;P
- Happy Thanksgiving by the way! (Oh and a reminder of a past talk: Christmas' coming up, december starts soon and... it's hot and sunny in the southern hemisphere, as usual... Summer time as it is every year, time to go to the beach :D)Jaxom 04:45, 30 November 2008 (UTC)

{ri}Yes, the names -- thank you for the reminder, Jaxom. I will post them now in the four languages for which I have the proper character sets:
- French: La grenouille
- German: Der Frosch
- Italian: La Rana
- Spanish: La Rana

Hi again, my Mo was just near you in LA Inter 1 few minutes ago (on his way to, err, a date with the Rift Warden *blush*, lol. I am afraid this Rift Warden guy is no good at commitments, lol). Is that a new Frog? Cute! I guess it has the same name and description than the other 2 :D. At least now I have a screen of this one to post on the French Wikia (The Froggies wikia by Frogs for Frogs, :D).Remember to tell us if you get some more for the Canthean New Year or Dragon Festival ;). See you and Merry Christmas! And congrats for the kittens! Jaxom 07:30, 25 December 2008 (UTC)
- Hi Jaxom. It was good to see you on Christmas Eve. Froggie is very fond of his new "chapeau." He may decline to remove it until summertime! The kittens are doing wonderfully well -- they are pawing through an empty box here beside me. (The boxes are always better than the gifts, I've learned. ;) )
- And don't feel bad about that whole... Rift Warden thing. I've been stood up that beast so many times, I am getting quite near emo on the matter. I'm running on about 5 hours' sleep most nights -- something tells me this has passed "casual play." :D -- Gaile 20:08, 30 December 2008 (UTC)

Halloween Art Contest
Hey Gaile, would you happen to know how the judging for the Halloween Art Contest is going along, or would I be better off posting this question somewhere else?Shew 04:27, 4 November 2008 (UTC)
- Hey there, Shew. I think your best source for info is Regina. The community team is handling the judging and announcement, so she'll have the skinny for you. Best of luck with your entry! -- Gaile 04:31, 4 November 2008 (UTC)

I'm not going to say anything about it, though. :P Shew 22:02, 8 November 2008 (UTC)

Gwen Popularity
Hi Gaile! My apologizes if this has been already addressed. I was wondering earlier today about Gwen and her enduring popularity with GW players. I wondered whether if Anet folks antipactated that she'd be popular with players or was it unexpected? On a side note, I finally made that nutella cake MageMontu talked about few months ago for an election party - it was a huge yummy hit! :) – Barinthus 05:39, 6 November 2008 (UTC)
- I think looking back to those days, it's safe to say that the team did not really project the popularity of Gwen. She was not considered a pivotal character, and it was rather surprising to us to see how much people took her to her hearts. Well, surprising, but very, very heartwarming, too. I remember in the early days, reactions were mixed and I saw many in-game comments, ranging from "Who is this obnoxious kid following me around?" to "She's adorable!" There was speculation about whether she had died or not in The Searing. I mean, we do find Gwen's Broken Flute in Post-Searing Ascalon, right? Over time, fan fiction was developed about her and her family, guilds were formed with Gwen as their mascot, and people still hark back to her one-day rampage through Lion's Arch at the end of the Beta Test Event. :)
- I'm so glad that we brought Gwen back into the storyline for the final installment of Guild Wars. I think her presence really adds something to the story, providing that human element and that continuous thread back to the start of the saga. -- Gaile 14:48, 6 November 2008 (UTC)
- Thanks for the response! :) I remember when I came across the Broken Flute in the ruins, I recall feeling sad that Gwen was a victim of the Searing then I started wondering if she somehow survived when I found the Scattered Cape (or whatever it was, I wish I didn't trash it!). The decision to bring back Gwen in EoTN is, imo, among one of best development decisions made. I'll never forget that first time I saw adult Gwen standing at attention among ranks of Ebon Vanguard in that trailer of EoTN. – Barinthus 06:28, 8 November 2008 (UTC)
- I agree. When I saw Gwen in the movie, I got chills. I love that she's part of the continuing story in the expansion pack -- how perfect is that? But then, I always was fond of the little one -- I thought she was absolutely charming. -- Gaile 03:50, 12 November 2008 (UTC)

Games are art?
Dunno if you read it already Gaile, but Arenanet got some good points in this article! =) clicky. Something you guys can be really proud off! =) I'm a big fan of GW concept art as well ;-) -- (Tribina / talk) 21:49, 8 November 2008 (UTC)
- Would like to add that in the PC Gamer special from October 2007 (Ultimate Guildwars Guide) I saw an awesome piece of concept art; the avatar concept of Melandru by KeKai Kotaki Clicky. Now when Arenanet sold some Concept art in poster format on the official site last year, I asked you wether this piece of Kekai Kotaki was considered as a future poster as well, a question you couldn't answer ofcourse, but which turned out it didn't... Now maybe you know if there is any place on the web, or somewhere else where I (and other fans) can get a hold of a high resolution picture from this wonderful piece of art? I hope he is still working for Arenanet, and if so, and you happen to see him, tell him he has a big Belgian fan ;-) -- (Tribina / talk) 23:18, 8 November 2008 (UTC)

- I think they purposely leave these holes in origins/lore etc. and such just in case they want to change a bit for, say GW2. If they set some solid answers now, then they wouldn't have much room for creativity in any sequel then would they? Considering this, I don't think you'll be getting any good solid answers to those questions anytime soon ... --kaheiyeh 04:30, 9 November 2008 (UTC)
barely half the DoT resembles stuff like OOlas lab and that golem foundry, as for the plauge and abadon i just went thru the manuel twice what oage is it on cause m,ost i found just says supernatural origins you cant just asuume its abadon despite himn being a likley suspect it may nto be him--Lord randy taylor 04:33, 9 November 2008 (UTC)

Dreaming of a Rare Miniature
So the other morning I woke up and remembered a dream I had where I had my very own unded mini Island Guardian I was so happy.. till I realized it was just a dream =(
But I was wondering.. are there going to be anymore contests or events where the community would be able to actually have a chance at getting a rare mini for their own?
I've already come to terms with the fact that I'll never get a Island Guardian, as I've heard so many rare mini's were lost due to the whole duping fiasco but a Polar Bear would be perfect for me!
Although right now I could probably only afford to buy 1 bell off her collar =x I was just wondering if you had any info, hope, a flicker of light for me Gaile as you seem to be well informed about miniatures =) --O Frost O 15:51, 5 November 2008 (UTC)
- Hey there, Frost. As someone who is maxed on the "Lover of Minis" title, I see your point. :) However, I don't know what the future holds as far as miniature distributions. I believe that I remember the design team said last year that the Wintersday quest that includes the possibility of the Polar Bear will be returning. However, that's no promise, for such a thought could just be a function of my hazy memory... or wishful thinking! :) -- Gaile 14:39, 6 November 2008 (UTC)
- Can I give a quick advise to Frost? If you dream about GW, you've been playing it too much.. ^Teo^ 14:44, 6 November 2008 (UTC)
- I will definately keep my fingers crossed and laptop at the ready.. Thanks again! --O Frost O 15:09, 6 November 2008 (UTC)
I was doing some more polar bear research.. and came to the conclusion I will never be able to afford one as its currently worth 100s of braces.. so here's hoping the market gets drenched with em this wintersday or I amazingly get 1(yeah right with my luck) haha **dreams about it in my HoM** --O Frost O 05:42, 8 December 2008 (UTC)
- I am sure that all of us are in much the same situation. The rarity of the Miniature Polar Bear ensures that many of us will be looking and not owning. I'm very fond of the little guy, not so much because he's so rare or so expensive (heck, some of my favourite minis are so-called "commons") but because he's just so bloomin' cute! :) I'll be doing a lot of runs in hopes that I get one, too, and I hope that those who do score a bear post about it here so I can add my congratz to everyone else's over such a fine achievement! :) -- Gaile 06:27, 8 December 2008 (UTC)
- I definitely agree the rarity of the polar bear keeps it fun and mysterious, so I do wish all the best of luck in getting there very own. And if there's ever one in need of adoption feel free to send em my way haha *points to polar bear* ---> --O Frost O 06:27, 9 December 2008 (UTC)
- By the way, is the Wintersday Chest from The Strength of Snow the same as the one from Straight to the Heart? -- Gordon Ecker (talk) 02:41, 13 December 2008 (UTC)
oh i so want a polar bear lol --Nick123 17:11, 17 December 2008 (UTC)
- I believe we are more than overdue for a new swathe of rare and mid rare mini releases. With the ever present attrition these top-end minis have suffered at the hands of miscreants and bad people, we, the wider GW public have unduly suffered, and quite unfairly. However, the end of the world isn't nigh as this is all very fixable; by repeated and generous releases of these minis back into the Guild Wars world.
Maintaining their "specialness" won't be a problem as there never was that many in the first place so adding a number of each of them will merely bring to some kind of balance the numbers. Personally I'd like the re-issue significantly enlarged to enable the numbers to exceed what was released before. Nostalgia for shiny things is one thing, witholding is another. Not doing so helps maintain that air of "GW's golden days never to be repeated you joined in too late attitude" and my newer Guildies would like to feel they're part of something that still lives and breathes and isnt a dusty old relic...its not a question of fair but one of maintained freshness
As it stands the Polar Bear will be a year on year repeat, we need something like this for the Top End minis...maybe even add them to the Xunlai Chest eh?Zilken 17:25, 17 December 2008 (UTC)

- That one actually annoys me. It's got a sexist undertone, and while I can stomach that in itself, there's a few too many similar guild names like it floating around. It gets old. I was actually rooting for a guild by the name of something like Even Beer Won't Make Ugly Guys [Hawt] to come and pwn them, but apart from that name being too long (I think), these things just don't happen I guess. Seemed like a funny form of poetic justice, though. ;)
- Hey Gaile, will we ever have a way to switch off the green messages we get once in a while? I like knowing that stuff drops for me, but the Halls names and in-town notifications get kind of old. I personally couldn't care less if someone in Kamadan just hit level 4, you know... The title announcements also get in the way in the main towns. Not usually, but they really spam the chat window during certain events... Sorry, off topic question perhaps but the discussion made me think of this. :) -- Elv 16:29, 29 November 2008 (UTC)

(Reset indent) I have not heard of plans to make announcements optional. Off the top of my head, I can think of a reason why we might not want to do that: Some announcements contain important messaging, such as "We are conducting a server maintenance in one hour." Too, I'm hoping that the design team likes the idea of adding a message that lets players know when an appearance is beginning, such as "The Mad King will appear in 15 minutes." (The decision on whether they want to, can, and will be adding such announcements is entirely theirs, of course.)
Overall, I believe that some announcements can be critical and we would not want them to be optional. I personally feel the title announcements are cool, and if I'm busy, I guess I sort of "filter" them from my reading, so they're no trouble. -- Gaile 19:17, 5 December 2008 (UTC)
- Personally, I'd like the game to somehow distinguish. System announcements, event announcements etc are fine, but the Someone New hit level 3 announcements and the like are "meh" at best. Not to mention the sometimes offensive guild names that win Halls, which can't be filtered. (And some guild names are not necessarily reportable, but still annoying.)
- Remember the double SS/LB point weekend? It was impossible to be in a major town and keep up a conversation. Obviously that was a rare event, but it does illustrate the need to separate the trivial messages from the important ones, and to provide some sort of off-button. I'd like to be able to switch off the trivial ones so I won't see the "spam" of some winning guild or other. It used to serve a purpose when PvP controlled Favour, but that's outdated now... :) -- Elv 10:23, 7 December 2008 (UTC)

New Tonic
Hi Gaile, didn't know who else to come to for this but, my guild and I have been wondering, when will the new tonic be here? I ask simply because I love the Zkeys and love getting the tonics, so does my guild, well if you can help please let me know. Beriya of bats 12:33, 9 December 2008 (UTC)

- The tonic should probably come with the first scheduled update of December, which I expect to be this week.. — Why 16:50, 9 December 2008 (UTC)
- I'm hoping the tonics start becoming more "awesome" personally... I know some people have requested things like Mursaat or Charr to appear at some point — and then there's the out-of-left-field hilarious ones like Oink, or pre-searing Gwen, or stick figures, or maybe we could even run around as floating banana scythes... -- Sirius (talk) 20:12, 9 December 2008 (UTC)
- I know the feeling. By the time the Skeletonic turned up I was getting a bit tired of the abundance of undead/afterlife themed tonics, so the Gelatinous Tonic was quite a breath of fresh air when it arrived. Now I'm beginning to wonder when Factions will get some representation... -- WarBlade 21:37, 9 December 2008 (UTC)
- I'm not sure if anyone recognized the symbolism, but the Gelatinous Tonic was chosen (by John Hargrove, the person who selects tonics) because of its resemblance to cranberry sauce. - Well there we go. My speculation on Factions representation turned out be be almost prophetic! :) So the Gelatinous Tonic was a Thanksgiving reference eh? Okay, too obscure for me. - Hmmm, now that I think about it that could be one for the cultural references... -- WarBlade 04:21, 13 December 2008 (UTC)

Have you seen the update on the Guild Wars site! I have never been so excited in my Guild Wars time, there is so much there! And a suitable amount of Snowmen related items! Suggestion/Question regarding Rollerbeetle Racing Top 100 list
Hi Gaile,
I'm not sure where to ask/suggest this, so I do it here. :) I was wondering if maybe ArenaNet could modify the Rollerbeetle Racing Top 100 list in a way where one account can get ranked only once. The reason I'm suggesting this is because those who rank many times get only one reward anyways, but their many accomplishments take other people's chances away from ranking. There's a person I know of who ranked about 30 times, poor guy got accused of hacking and cheating so many times just because he's good at playing it. Maybe limiting the times one can get into the top 100 would be nice for everyone. What do you guys think?
Cheers and happy holidays :) Akane Kiryu 02:05, 18 December 2008 (UTC)
- I have asked about this in the past, because I know this has been a concern every year. I do not know if such a change is possible or planned, but I imagine Linsey could answer that question. One relevant question is whether RBR is part of the festival, because it does not appear to be mentioned on the Wintersday event page at all. -- Gaile 19:27, 18 December 2008 (UTC)

- Joe confirmed that Rollerbeetle Racing will not be part of the Wintersday Festival, as history and the event page would indicate. As for changes to the Top 100 listing, that would require work from the Server Team, and I don't know if that is planned. I'd suggest that you make a suggestion on the Suggestions Page. :) -- Gaile 02:09, 19 December 2008 (UTC)

Mini polar bear really REALLY rare?
hey
im trying to buy a mini polar bear and people say its worth 100k + 100 ectos and one person even said including last year there are only 500 in game. is this true and if not how many times do you think it will take for it to drop from the chest?

- It really and truly is random. And random means that you never know when you'll get one. For instance, Fred could play the quests for 100 times and get the same fun-but-not-bearish items every time, where Mary could run the quest once and get a MPB. (I know, I know, that seems to imply a lack of "justice," but that's what "random" truly means!)
- Don't be discouraged. I know the drop rate is very small, but I played a goodly time yesterday myself. (Goodly time = 8+ hours I think. ;) ) -- Gaile 21:57, 22 December 2008 (UTC)

- I seriously think when it comes to my account, it's just doomed to get the worst drops, like it's hard codded in or something. The best drop I have ever had was a req13 Runic blade, but the kicker here is when I id'd it, uninscribable! Yep! deathbane bug (before it was fixed) FTL! I think something is very wrong with the random thing on my account. Been playing since release and if I want any kind of weapon I just end up buying it cause I know I'll never get the drop. I'll never be able to afford a MPB. And I am very discouraged after almost 4 years of the crappiest drops that have ever dropped. 12+ hours yesterday and going on 6+ hours today, but who am I kidding, I'm just bringing up the randomness so someone else can get the stupid bear. --BabyJ 23:16, 22 December 2008 (UTC)
- I agree with BabyJ, i also have bad drops from chests, the best i got until now was a q13 Voltaic Spear, and i got it on the run 71, which i completed after 2 months. This is ridiculous, i already gave up about the bear. people can't like anything these days, because they always get f*cked up, but hey, it always drops for people who don't give a sh*t about the mini, just want them to sell and usually already the stacks of ecto in storage. Gaile, there are rumors going around that the lucky/unlucky points have an effect on this dropping. And they are saying that this is confirmed. Is this true? I hate to bother you with this question, and I see that you have said it is truly random. Also, is the chest rewards decided before you get there, or when the chest is opened? I guess what I am asking is if you fail the quest, is that a lost bear? Or is it not decided that the bear might be there until you open the chest? Texeasons
I have done approximately 320 runs (single account) so far since the rift wardens appeared this wintersday, and no bear. :(( They are simply so adorable, I want one, lol. :D I don't know how long I can keep up hoping that I'll get one. It would be cool if at the end of wintersday one could exchange like 2500 cc shards for one bear, lol. :D Well, I'll be farming for one until the last minutes of wintersday probably. :P Happy hunting to everyone else who's out to get the little guy! - I do have some questions concerning this. Why did ANET limit how much gold a character could carry and trade at any one time to 100k if not to keep items from being too expensive, and then they introduce uber rare items like the MPB which the players are clearly going to charge exorbitant amounts of armbraces or ecto in order to buy them? I understand the concept of making something rare in the game, but making it so rare that the price significantly exceeds that of the gold limit set seems to go against what ANET had originally intended the game to be like. Can we start calling the mini polar bear the 'extremely lucky, possibly bot obtained, and armbrace/ecto duper' bear? Because it does seem that making him this rare only encourages players to cheat in order to obtain one, or for that matter, to sell them for real world money to anyone crazy enough to spend cash on them. I understand not making him mini-pig common, but why not make him and the other uber rare minis, only as rare as perhaps the rarest of the birthday minis, such that the price for one doesn't far exceed that of the 100k limit? We need to have another level of rarity added to wiki for these items called "uber rare" or "not in your lifetime rare" or "only for cheaters and the extremely lucky rare". Ok, I ranted. I feel better, a little. Forgive me for saying this, but I do kinda hope that Gaile farms and farms and farms for the MPB, and doesn't get one so that she can feel the futility of it like the rest of us. :P --209.194.208.116 16:37, 30 December 2008 (UTC)
Facebook?
Hey Gaile, I searched your name on facebook and a result came up, but it didn't have the 'ArenaNet' tag...is it you? Hylas 20:04, 25 December 2008 (UTC)

- Tag as in 'Network', if you go to Facebook->settings->networks and type 'ArenaNet' when someone searches either 'ArenaNet' or 'Gaile Gray' it'll display the little words 'ArenaNet' below one's search results. I hope that made sense (:P). Happy New Year! Hylas 10:09, 2 January 2009 (UTC)

(indent reset) I read the patent. Diablo does not count as prior art for sure. The patent is about using the client to eliminate unnecessary network traffic. For example, if I were playing in a different dungeon than another player, my computer would know approximately where the other player is, and not request more information about them (ie, it would recieve the fact that they are in the catacombs, but if I were elsewhere, I wouldn't get farther information). Otherwise, your client would be required to recieve information about the whereabouts of every player connected to the server. Now, GW probably doesn't use this type of architecture, since each district in a town is on a different server, and it would be concievable that each player that is connected to Lions Arch District 1, receives the whereabouts of everyone in that district. This would NOT violate the patent they filed. Only if each client in LA district one recieved an approximate location, then if they were 'close', would recieve more accurate info. This doesn't seem to be the case in GW, but it does seem to be the case in WoW. StatMan 22:49, 2 January 2009 (UTC)

- I almost suspect this is a scam. They chose a very suspicious time to sue: eight years after they filed their specific-yet-generic patent, during a time when MMOs are extremely popular but companies are weakened by economic recession, their target being one that's shown signs of financial struggle. --Mme. EULA Question Regarding the 3D models
Hi Gaile,
I was wondering if I would want to recreate for instance the Elite Necro Vabbian armor in a 3D modeling program such as Hexagon or Poser, rig it, texture it (make it look like the armor in the game) as close to the original as possible, then use it to set up 3D scenes with it and render it into a picture (strictly for non-commercial use, and not for reselling either the pictures, or the 3D models as content), maybe display my pictures on my website and/or enter into art contests with it, would it be against the EULA? Are the 3D models protected by the EULA and/or copyrighted this way?
Thank you!

- All artwork/textures/models in the game are under ArenaNet copyright. This however has not precluded people from making costumes, and other kinds of fan art based on it. -- Wyn/talk 05:57, 3 January 2009 (UTC)
