related to Dungeon shrines, you are correct that level 2 of Vloxen is the primary loci, but there are quite a few other sites where a party can get "wiped" and resurrect BEYOND their current location---- just by being "close to" a shrine (even though the shrine has NOT been "activated" by the party)

Hi[edit]

Can I ask why you're alphabetizing those lists when you can just click the sort thing in the header? Just seems like a lot of work... -- FreedomBoundUser Freedom Bound Sig.png 20:03, 16 October 2009 (UTC)

Better the default order is alphabetical than alphabetical-in-places, in my opinion. I've caught a few errors and omissions going through them too. Manifold 20:05, 16 October 2009 (UTC)

Editting page/sections[edit]

If you're going to make changes to a lot of sections, it might be better to just click the edit tab at the top and fix the whole page in one edit. --JonTheMon 16:48, 20 October 2009 (UTC)

Yeah, I realized find/replace would be a lot easier, so I did that for the Necro page. Thanks though! Manifold 16:49, 20 October 2009 (UTC)

Cold Damage vs Devourers[edit]

Sapphire and Ruby drops[edit]

I don't think it's appropriate to add sapphire and rubies to every monster that drops them. The discussion seems to point that it is a random drop regardless of kind of monster. Discussion on guildwiki seems to point that it can drop from anything in cantha, ie. a kappa in shing jea island dropped one in HM. In either case I don't think a consensus was reached. --Lania Elderfire 00:14, 17 February 2010 (UTC)

Linsey confirmed that rubies don't drop from everything. It's not even close to 10%, really. I've personally seen a ruby or sapphire drop from everything listed, or least something closely related (different types of Am Fah and such). What we have listed is pretty darn close to complete. Manifold User Manifold Jupiter.jpg 00:25, 17 February 2010 (UTC)
ahh, okay. Just wondering about that cause there's nothing about it on the discussion page, thanks for clarifying. --Lania Elderfire 05:07, 17 February 2010 (UTC)
I didn't know that Sapphires and Rubies could drop from monsters at all. I thought they were strictly obtained through salvage (or trade contracts). Interesting. Just goes to show why notes like that are needed. -Ninjatek 02:27, 30 March 2010 (UTC)

Quick question, which I'm sure you've already considered in your obvious omniscience: You have the Silent Peacekeeper with the shield having an AR of 85. Any chance that could be 86? I know, I also may be way too picky ; ) G R E E N E R 03:47, 15 April 2010 (UTC)
For some creatures individuals can spawn with slightly different shields, some of them giving 14 armor, some giving 16, etc. I tested several, and they all had exactly 85 armor. It is possible that some have shields with 16 armor, but I didn't come across any. I suppose it's also possible that the "-1 armor bug" is tied to one-handed weapons, and as the only assassin with a one-handed weapon this is the first case of an assassin being effected by it, and they do in fact have 16 armor shields. Manifold User Manifold Jupiter.jpg 03:54, 15 April 2010 (UTC)

Armor ratings of Peacekeeper Enforcer[edit]

Rodgort's Invocation at 15 fire does 60 damage to Peacekeeper Enforcers, which gives 100 fire AL. With 101 fire AL, the damage will be 59. There may be some round-off error in your AL computation. --Zora 10:26, 15 April 2010 (UTC)

This is a fairly common issue I've had to deal with. Armor rating can change a bit, depending on how much damage is done. With Stoning doing 89 damage, it comes out as 101 armor, but with channeled strike at 71 damage, it's 100. I usually go with 101 in those cases, but I may not always be consistent, and I wouldn't say one is more "correct" than the other. This seems to happen all the time when the target has 100/101 armor, and since 100 armor is half damage I suspect there's something quirky about how the game rounds from exactly X.5 Manifold User Manifold Jupiter.jpg 14:36, 15 April 2010 (UTC)
Isn't it more logical to go with 100. It is unlikely for a designer to set physical AL at 100 and add +1 AL to elemental AL. Stoning(89) does 44 damage to both 100AL and 101AL so it is a bad test. GW does round half to even AFAIK and I didn't notice any discrepancy. --Zora 16:03, 15 April 2010 (UTC)
Indeed, I'm sure it's coded as 100 all around, but we generally record how things actually are, rather than what the programmer was going for. But if Guild Wars rounds half to even I haven't been accounting for that. I can make sure later before I start editing all those pages. Manifold User Manifold Jupiter.jpg 16:28, 15 April 2010 (UTC)
My in-game testing gives 100 elemental AL. Do you have any tests that suggest that they have 101 elemental AL? --Zora 17:16, 15 April 2010 (UTC)
A Stoneflesh Mandragor does 117 damage with Stoning to my 60 armor Mesmer. With Mantra of Earth active at 15 Inspiration (50% damage reduction), my Mesmer takes 59 damage. 117 * .5 = 58.5 If Guild Wars rounds to even it should round down to 58, but instead it's rounding up to 59.
An 89 damage stoning does 44 damage to an Enforcer.
99 armor: 89 * .5087 = 45.3 = 45
100 armor: 89 * .5 = 44.5 = 45
101 armor: 89 * .4914 = 43.7 = 44
102 armor: 89 * .483 = 42.98 = 43
101 armor is the only value that lines up. Manifold User Manifold Jupiter.jpg 17:41, 15 April 2010 (UTC)
I don't think it is accurate to use Mantra of Earth as the computation is likely done separately. GW doesn't use round half to even in everything. In addition, the progression doesn't round nicely so it is possible the damage reduction is not exactly 50%. 100AL Warrior takes 58 damage from Stoning(117). Stoning(89) can also be tested using the 100AL dummy in the isle of nameless, it does 44 damage. --Zora 18:23, 15 April 2010 (UTC)
I'd think the value at 15 would always be an integer, since it's so often a "nice" number, and the 0..12..15 progression scheme came from the developers (I'm pretty sure), and 16 seems like a more logical choice to display if there wasn't something "special" about 15. But I digress. I don't mind if you change it to 100, but I prefer 101 because, as the armor dummy shows, that's how much armor the target effectively has. Manifold User Manifold Jupiter.jpg 19:34, 15 April 2010 (UTC)
I will change it then since I don't see any evidence of 101AL. The behavior in-game is consistent with 100AL and that is what should be recorded. --Zora 05:31, 16 April 2010 (UTC)

better skill bars[edit]

o hai der, just wanted to inform you about some code you may or may not have missed, on your PUG build's page (saw it in RC ;D) your bars can be slightly hard to read interpret, maybe most users are, but i kno i am, used to seeing the Elite Yellow border on skills, if it would so please you, you could change it to have the lil down arrows for hexes & the ups for enchants, & that border.

now, i know this will come off as confusing (or at least it does to me frankly makes my head spin the first time) so heres an example of what you could do to a few of your bars

example:

| 1 = Scavenger's Focus
| 2 = Apply Poison
| 3 = Serpent's Quickness
| 4 = Wastrel's Worry
| 5 = Empathy
| 6 = Backfire
| 7 = Guilt

could become

| 1 = Scavenger's Focus | frame1 = Elite
| 2 = Apply Poison
| 3 = Serpent's Quickness
| 4 = Wastrel's Worry | overlay4 = Hex
| 5 = Empathy | overlay5 = Hex
| 6 = Backfire | overlay6 =Hex
| 7 = Guilt | overlay7 = Hex

now, codeset #2 results in this,

question about NPC WiK skill bar[edit]

I have been reordering some WiK npc skill bar ( some wheren't in aphabetical order some were showing they're secondary proffession skill before the primary prof.) I was wondering why did you undo most of those change I Did example: white mantle enforcer A/W showed is warrior skill before is assassin same for the A/E varient with conjure frost. For Insatiable Vakar, I also reodered is conjure to be the last. I always though we showed primary porffession skil first instead of is secondary.

Guild_Wars_Wiki:Formatting/NPCs#Skills: "Sort the skills by profession, then alphabetically within each profession. Punctuation marks are sorted first (i.e. all the shouts). Common skills and monster skills are sorted below profession-specific skills. See also the profession formatting guidelines." Then, looking at profession formatting page, there is an order for classes. I interpret that as saying to use that order for skills of multi-profession NPCs, although it is not explicitly stated that way. Manifold User Manifold Neptune.jpg 18:20, 22 May 2010 (UTC)
oh...ahhh thanks I was loking for the order. I was the one who asked this stupid question and forgot to sign Tech Wolf 18:47, 22 May 2010 (UTC) edit: btw I'm gonna correct all my mistake.

Shining Maul[edit]

If this is listed, shouldnä't you list the White Reaver and such also? More so, since that one is obviously named after the mantle. Backsword 13:36, 10 June 2010 (UTC)

I've considered this before, but it seems to drop from Charr in Pre-Searing too. While I do think it should probably be listed, it's already an uphill battle keeping Shining Mauls listed as a drop, and something that doesn't quite conform to policy is going to be reverted a lot more often. Manifold User Manifold Neptune.jpg 14:44, 10 June 2010 (UTC)
Well, even if it does drop in pre (not sure about that), you can't go back and farm it there, so it seems to be one of those things that should be listed to me. Backsword 15:06, 10 June 2010 (UTC)

"There's no undead in Factions, no Spirits in Prophecies, I don't think there's any constructs or elementals in the Realm of the Gods"[edit]

Afflicted are undead by lore, Dark Oak is a spirit, Ice Elementals and King Frozenwind are in a Realm of the Gods. Not sure about constructs though. :P The note doesn't say they are hostiles. -- Konig/talk 19:06, 15 June 2010 (UTC)

Afflicted: odd, but ok. Dark Oak and King Frozenwind: I had forgot about Druids, and yeah, I was thinking of hostile creatures, looking through the tables, and mechanically, rather than lore-y. Manifold User Manifold Neptune.jpg 19:37, 15 June 2010 (UTC)
Well just to note I find the trivia bullet completely pointless either way, but I was just stating how one would go from a to b with things in different campaigns. -- Konig/talk 19:50, 15 June 2010 (UTC)

Stone Singers[edit]

I have to ask: Did you actually run that quest twice to detect all that info, or were you just extrapolating? Honestly, I do shake my head at the amount of detail you seek to find! Keep it up. G R E E N E R 19:08, 23 June 2010 (UTC)

I was vanquishing the area, and happened to have the quest. It seemed unlikely that they would have 20 Communing in NM, so I checked it out there afterwards (not a word according to Firefox spell checker?). Manifold User Manifold Neptune.jpg 19:12, 23 June 2010 (UTC)

"Uses critical strikes skill"[edit]

But has the Ranger aura. Go ahead and do the quest again if you don't believe me. Even a R/A can use Critical Strike skills. And with monsters using multiple elites, would it really surprise you if they have points in their secondary's primary? -- Konig/talk 02:38, 10 July 2010 (UTC)

I'll take your word for it that it has a Ranger aura. And yes, I would be surprised if a creature had attribute points in its secondary's primary attribute, because I don't think there's a single creature that's been proven to have such. I thought they were going for a White Mantle Enforcer-type build, too bad. Manifold User Manifold Neptune.jpg 02:47, 10 July 2010 (UTC)

Really?[edit]

I was under the impression TGD and the great dwarf were considered dwarven god/demigods.The Emmisary 19:47, 13 July 2010 (UTC)

The Great Destroyer was a subordinate to Primordus, an Elder dragon. The Elder Dragons existed before the Gods of Tyria and apparently rival them in power, but I don't think I've seen them referred to as gods in their own right. The Deldrimor dwarves worship the Great Dwarf and knew about gw2:Zhaitan and the Great Destroyer, but they didn't worship them. Manifold User Manifold Neptune.jpg 20:03, 13 July 2010 (UTC)
You'll want to fix the Tome of Rubicon page then. It says "where the ancient battle of the two gods will be repeated" . The Emmisary 20:07, 13 July 2010 (UTC)
Actually, nothing needs fixing because to the dwarves, they are gods. But like the mursaat, titans, and destroyers - the great destroyer is not. Unknown on the great dwarf. -- Konig/talk 20:11, 13 July 2010 (UTC)
I didn't even get a chance to light the Konig Signal. Manifold User Manifold Neptune.jpg 20:13, 13 July 2010 (UTC)
Just looked through the Unspeakable, Unknowable quest and it never calls the Great Destroyer a god, just the Great Dwarf's equal and opposite (which is probably what confused people) - it is very much like a God/Satan rivalry, a deity's greatest foe is not a deity, though the Stone Summit worship the Great Destroyer. I changed the Tome page accordingly. -- Konig/talk 20:21, 13 July 2010 (UTC)

Shadow Beast dropping Molten Claw?[edit]

This makes no sense as that drop is for Titans. Did you actually see a Shadow Beast drop it, and didn't mistake it for a different creature dropping it or something? -- Konig/talk 05:14, 16 July 2010 (UTC)

I farmed a few dozen and didn't get one, so I've removed it, along with Spinal Staff which seems to be pretty generic. It looks like I added it around the time I was testing their energy (in RoT), so maybe I got it mixed up with a nearby Titan. Manifold User Manifold Neptune.jpg 15:41, 16 July 2010 (UTC)

Disc of Chaos[edit]

Vulnerability/resistance table[edit]

Heey Manifold, I was recently looking for a vulnerability/resistance table to find an enemy's strength and weakness fast, but could not find one on the wiki. I saw that you were making all the armour ratings for every NPC in-game and so I came up with the idea that an table that combines the Template:NPC infobox and the Template:NPC statistics could make it easy to find their strength and weakness. I already tried to make something, but I can't make it work :P Anyhow, I wonder what you think about it. Jerone Talk 10:50, 6 October 2010 (UTC)

Originally when I was planning the armor ratings table I wanted to have background colors that indicated weaknesses and strengths (a green background for damage types that the creature is strong against, for example), but I couldn't find a good way to implement it. There's also the issue of creatures that are have all-around more or less armor. Would those be considered to be strong/weak against all damage types or none? What about warriors or rangers that don't have their physical/elemental armor bonus, would those be considered "weak" to physical/elemental? Also, would warriors and rangers with "normal" armor be considered strong to physical/elemental?
Some of these questions I think are the reason the "absolute" armor ratings were decided on rather than a "relative" approach. You can see the relative numbers at the project page if you hadn't come across that. The damage type pages have lists of enemies strong and weak to each damage type as well, if that helps.
Difficulties aside, how exactly do you mean "combine" the infobox and statistics template? Are you thinking of adding to the infobox, or the armor ratings section, or adding a new section or what? What benefits would it offer a user over the current table of numbers?
Also, you're supposed to archive your old talk page comments, rather than delete them. You can find help for that here. Manifold User Manifold Neptune.jpg 15:55, 6 October 2010 (UTC)
I was thinking about the weakest armor vs damage-type being their weakness and vice versa for strength. Indeed I saw the damage type pages too, but thought a table that collects all of them into one and above that shows the armour rating of them enemies. I got it figured out how it should look like, in a code, I think the code is probably wrong though, could you take a look at it? Jerone Talk Jerone 18:40, 6 October 2010 (UTC)
I'm no expert in such matters, but sure, I'll take a look. Manifold User Manifold Neptune.jpg 19:14, 6 October 2010 (UTC)
Okay here's the appearance of it and in the edit you can get the code. I made it set-up to show the Centaurs section. I also think it's to big to fit in a regular screen ¬.¬ Jerone Talk Jerone 19:48, 6 October 2010 (UTC)

Yeah...that's all way above my knowledge of dpl. One of the wiki-code helpers might be able to help you, but it would probably be much easier and faster to do it manually. Manifold User Manifold Neptune.jpg 20:22, 6 October 2010 (UTC)
Okays, well I am only a man with a few ideas ;) Besides, I think them projects better be finished first before one can create such a table ain't it? :) Jerone Talk Jerone 17:43, 9 October 2010 (UTC)

Care to vote?[edit]

Theres a couple people that think the voice actor should remain under trivia but I disagree, I think it should be in the infobox. I noticed that some trivia with voice actors have info about the actor instead of character, why not seperate that and make it clearer. Besides, the code may be in all npc pages but they have to add

 |voiceactor = Bob

in order to be effected by the change. Can you please vote? here Lucian Shadowborn User Lucian Shadowborn.jpg 00:32, 7 November 2010 (UTC)

I don't really have an opinion. Manifold User Manifold Neptune.jpg 01:41, 7 November 2010 (UTC)

Pet-Pwnage.[edit]

Thats a wonderful screen shot you've made there. Me, Tobi and a few of the others back at Raven have been passing it around. Glad you're finally able to go full pet team. I'll have to try it myself sometime.--Will Greyhawk 20:25, 19 March 2011 (UTC)

Kournan bounty in Gandara[edit]

Good catch. I looked at our article first...and somehow I thought it said Kournan bounty instead of Heket. Sigh. — Tennessee Ernie Ford (TEF) 05:47, 14 May 2011 (UTC)

I really expected it to have one, too..and an IP recently mixed up a Demon bounty with a Margonite, so I thought it had happened again at first. Manifold User Manifold Neptune.jpg 14:42, 14 May 2011 (UTC)

Convert hexes note[edit]

In theory it's true, it's just that the bug prevents it from happening. With a bugfix the note is true. That's why I didn't remove it. User Judas Sig.pngudas 23:59, 5 July 2011 (UTC)

Thanks[edit]

Just wanna say thank you for fixing all the skill updates i did for woc yesterday... I didn't know they were supposed to be alphabetized.>.< Yae Mozs 03:18, 9 July 2011 (UTC)

S'ok, the information is more important than the formatting in the end. For the future, quote marks are considered to be alphabetically before 'a', and when the enemy has skills from multiple professions, the professions are ordered Warrior, Ranger, Monk, Necromancer, Mesmer, Elementalist, Assassin, Ritualist, Paragon, Dervish, any (resurrection signet, in other words), and monster skills. Manifold User Manifold Neptune.jpg 03:25, 9 July 2011 (UTC)

Other signage templates[edit]

I prefer using {{unsigned2}}, because it allows me to copy the date/name from history and paste it into the template (and I prefer adding the date because it's useful in dethreading old convos, especially when ppls start to reply to year-old topics). There's also {{unsigned}}, which does the same thing, only backwards. (I also always substitute the template,

e.g. {{subst:unsigned2|18:20, 15 July 2011 |74.132.39.27}}, which converts the template code into wikicode.

I don't think the wiki has a specific policy about which unsigned template to use or whether to substitute, so you are free to use the one that works best for you. (See also: this discussion about substitution.)Tennessee Ernie Ford (TEF) 20:20, 15 July 2011 (UTC)

exp/loot-range[edit]

"maintained enchantment range is compass range, as is exp/loot sharing range" Are you sure about that? We've tried to find the exact conditions on Talk:Experience#XP_conditionals, but don't have anything conclusive yet. If you have further data, sources or information, please add it there. Tub 16:26, 3 August 2011 (UTC)

Ah, I was perhaps a bit hasty including exp. Drops certainly depend on compass range, though, as can be seen with the warrior raptor farm that uses a paragon hero to give you a speed boost, and is then flagged away. I assumed they were the same, but admit I've never paid attention to my exp gains during raptor runs. Manifold User Manifold Neptune.jpg 17:46, 3 August 2011 (UTC)

The Deep[edit]

If you still need help for your project with this I can go with you. IGN: Yoshida Keiji. If there's something people know me for its exactly The Deep. Im well over 500runs here and I take first timers all the time so I have a lot of patience to wait, even for experienced players willing to run some tests. health in hard mode[edit]

"Have 20 more maximum health for every level above 20."

[citation needed]. Can you please link to the source and/or research data? It doesn't contradict mine, but I'd still like to see it. Tub 23:23, 7 January 2012 (UTC)
I went out with a party of heroes with no weapons, that had heals and BiP. I used Vampiric Bite and Vampiric Touch and recorded how many uses it took to kill an enemy, and what the last damage amount was, and subtracted one. Hulking Stone Elementals had 560 health at level 22 (+40), Stormseed Jacarandas had 600 health at level 23 (+60), Fanged Ibogas had 640 health at level 24 (+80), and Kournan Guards had 720 health at level 26 (+120). Manifold User Manifold Neptune.jpg 23:35, 7 January 2012 (UTC)
Edit- These enemies should all have "normal" HP values, the bigger creatures with HP bonuses should probably be tested too. I want to comment on the Doppleganger, though. It's very interesting that it's new HP and armor are both that of a level 25, despite it's level of 30. The Lich in NM has armor expected of a level 15, and his HM armor corresponds to that, getting a large increase despite being a level 30 (32) foe. It makes me wonder if some creatures have their HP and armor scaled to a level that isn't their own, rather than manually entered to mimic such. Manifold User Manifold Neptune.jpg 23:42, 7 January 2012 (UTC)
Interesting, thanks for sharing!
Re: doppelganger. Recalculating 880-680, it seems that the doppel actually gained 200 hp, not 100. Oops. Tub 00:06, 8 January 2012 (UTC)
