Shing Jea Island

Trying to help out someone from the Shing Jea monistary, but my Proph character can't seem to get there. --The preceding unsigned comment was added by User:69.217.236.20 (talk).

Run from Kaineng Center to The Marketplace. Go out onto Kaineng Docks and talk to First Mate Xiang. Go through his dialogue, and you will be transported to Seitung Harbor. Run through Saoshang Trail to Linnok Courtyard, then walk into the monastery. Calor Talk 01:17, 1 July 2008 (UTC)

bitmap

what are bit maps and are we allowed to use them? if so how do i use them? --The preceding unsigned comment was added by User:99.233.88.91 (talk).

bitmap or .bmp is an image file format. guild wars doesn't have anything to do with bitmaps. - Y0_ich_halt User Y0 ich halt sig.jpg 13:32, 1 July 2008 (UTC)
Weren't screenshots saves as bitmaps until a bit over a year ago? Then they changed to .jpg's? Calor Talk 15:07, 1 July 2008 (UTC)
You can still use a -bmp flag or someting with the game I think. And you could use them you would want to use .png or .jpg for the web anyway. To use them, generally I would make a link like [[Image:User Star Weaver Pic Of Some Character.jpg]] or say [[Image:World Map Exapmle Pins.png]] for main space and then click the resulting redlink and upload the file. See GWW:IMAGE and GWW:USER.
Also, bitmap is sometimes used to refer to w:raster images in general; or at least lossless ones, if you're curious. --Star Weaver 16:02, 1 July 2008 (UTC)

The options button is at the lower right of the login screen. It's the first option in the first tab of this thing. It should say 日本語 if you're in japanese mode. I don't know what the chinese or korean ones look like. ^_^. But you should see english in the list, in english, if you click it. --Star Weaver 16:06, 1 July 2008 (UTC)

didn't follow nente's quest

hi everyone,

i wanted to become ranger for 2nd profession so i went to nente (prophecies campaign), instead of capturing the requested animal (nente's stalker or something like that) i captured a wolf, now i can't get to the next part (pre-searing). can anyone help?

greets --The preceding unsigned comment was added by User:81.165.95.133 (talk).

Go to Jarrel the Tamer. He is a pet tamer, and will take your pet. He is next to Master Ranger Nente in Regent Valley. Then go out and charm a Melandru's Stalker. After you finish the quest you can give the stalker to Jarrel and charm a wolf if you want. Calor Talk 21:18, 1 July 2008 (UTC)
The only problem with acquiring a wolf as a pet after finishing Master Nente's quest and then going through the Searing, is that there is another quest after the Searing given by the same guy (Nente) that is incredibly similar to the pre-searing one (i.e., you must tame and bring him a stalker). You DO NOT need to complete this stalker quest in post-searing in order to continue the game, you just end up missing out on some EXP and possibly a skill (which you could buy later anyway). The quest in post-searing that I am referring to is Endangered Species. --Dragon nataku 21:25, 1 July 2008 (UTC)

Elite Cap Sig

In Eye of The North there are a number of Elie skills from various campaigns, if i dont have Nightfall or Factions and I Cap Sig a skill from one of those campaigns in EOTN will I be able to use that skill? --The preceding unsigned comment was added by User:68.55.203.224 (talk).

No. Calor Talk 14:37, 2 July 2008 (UTC)
You can't even get it, let alone use it. From Capture: "You can not capture an elite that is from a campaign you do not own. If the appropriate CD Key is not entered and you attempt to capture the skill, the 'capture' button will be 'grayed out' disallowing the action until the CD Key for that campaign is entered.".
The information is there. --Star Weaver 15:36, 2 July 2008 (UTC)

What is wrong with my computer?

Hello, I have had Guild wars factions and nightfall for awhile now and i got them both loaded on my computer just fine, but whenever i try to play either games my computer usually takes about half an hour to load the game then when i play i can hardly move and all i see on my screen is the scenery changing like im spinning in circles but the picture stops and goes. Is it my graphics card or what is making this happen?--75.161.221.188 16:31, 2 July 2008 (UTC)

Try using the 'Test my computer' link on the sign in screen' it will run a diagnostic of your system and let you know whether it is capable of running the game. Also check here to make sure your system meets the minimum requirements for gameplay.--Wyn's Talk page Wynthyst 16:41, 2 July 2008 (UTC)

Map Confusion

I have Guild Wars Prophecies even though i dont have Eye Of The North it still displays charr homelands and far shiverpeaks --The preceding unsigned comment was added by User:75.89.45.163 (talk).

what's the problem with that? - Y0_ich_halt User Y0 ich halt sig.jpg 19:00, 2 July 2008 (UTC)
(Edit conflict) That is because EotN is located in the continent of "Tyria", which is also the location for the Prophecies campaign, so the devs probably decided to use only one map for the sake of simplicity. Even if those sections are displayed in your world map, they are not actually related to Prophecies, so you can safely ignore them while playing without side-effects.--Fighterdoken 19:04, 2 July 2008 (UTC)
Also chunks of the current Asura domain involve coastline around Maguuma Jungle and Kryta, so they couldn't have just made a "north tyria" map and be done with it easily. There's a Prophecies-specific upside to the arrangement if you do have EOTN, too, that being that you can use an Asura gate to travel to Boreal Station even with eight people and then to any of the later outposts in Proph without droping people/heroes.
(I do wish they would add Drok's (it's a PORT, it has BOATS) and something in Kourna/Vabbi especially as port cities so you can get onto any of the maps with an eight person party.) --Star Weaver 19:11, 2 July 2008 (UTC)
Sorry Star Weaver, but the boats in Droknar's Forge are not regular boats. Everything in the Southern Shiverpeaks that is water-related is frozen solid. They are, in fact, ice ships. See the Ice Caves of Sorrow (outpost) article, specifically where it says: "Waterways, frozen solid year round, wind through the land here, but the resourceful Dwarves have found a way to navigate them by building large ships that skate atop the ice." I think I also have a screencap of one, on top of frozen water, somewhere... Ah, here it is. Anyway, my point is that, logically speaking, unless other people besides the Dwarves have ice ships, they wouldn't be able to sail into Drok's (or Port Sledge, for that matter, which is more aptly named). --Dragon nataku 21:00, 2 July 2008 (UTC)
O_o I thought that the water that came in off The Bay That Goes Around Where Orr Used To Be would be traversable, and that the water near the boats in Droks itself wasn't frozen (it's not very far into the Shiverpeaks there. Oh well, will look aronud more later, currenly based there on one character so. Ember light camp? There really should be SOME way to bring a group of eight into a continent directly. I don't care how they do it. They could do that thing that's been suggested where you switch to the map of the target continent and pick an outpost rather than having to go to a port. :) --Star Weaver 21:13, 2 July 2008 (UTC)
Well, I was mostly arguing your point that Droknar's Forge is a port with normal boats. If you follow the game's logic, however... if we can instantly map-jump to any city we've already been to in the continent we are currently on, then why can't we do the same with any city we've already been to, period? Of course, this would probably involve either putting all of the maps together on the same screen, orrr having, for example, Tyria displayed, and then a little clickable map of Cantha or Elona off in their corresponding corners that, when clicked, would bring up the entire map of Cantha/Elona and you could then go to whatever city you want to that's already been unlocked. Buuuuut that would belong in game suggestions, and since GW2 is "Coming Soon," I doubt they're gonna change things now. *hums* "Cause I'm the King of Wishful Thinking..." --Dragon nataku 22:13, 2 July 2008 (UTC)
Yah, it is more suggestion fodder, which has already been requested, so. But they are getting those extra staff, and their UI already has the concept of "tabs" and such, so ya never know ... --Star Weaver 22:24, 2 July 2008 (UTC)

Proph Character trying to get to Zen and Haiju? in Factions

My Proph character, can't get to the upper maps on Shing Jea Island, Entrance to Zen Daijun,is blocked, how do I get to Haiju Lagoon??

Or is that just allowed to Factions Char's?

It does not seem fair that it's blocked during the Dragon event?

What's up with this?

You have to run to the gates from the back.--Wyn's Talk page Wynthyst 19:48, 3 July 2008 (UTC)

It could be for some reason, the game's making you have to do the Minister Cho mission first. I never had a problem getting into areas in noob island, though I do think I had to beat missions to access areas like Zen explorable. 75.146.48.190 19:52, 3 July 2008 (UTC)
You can get to Haiju Lagoon by going northeast from Seitung Harbour through Jaya Bluffs, so I'm not completely sure why you'd need to have Zen Daijun unblocked to get to Haiju Lagoon... ^<__<^ --Dragon nataku 03:01, 6 July 2008 (UTC)

Zaishen Elite

Is the Forbidden Path no longer accessible? I've been able to unlock Zaishen Elite no problem, and wanted to take the scenic route, but it seems the gate guard will not let me through. I made sure I had 5 wins under my belt, but still nothing. Any ideas? o.O --User Wandering Traveler Oie User Wandering Traveler Sig2.png Wandering Traveler 22:05, 3 July 2008 (UTC)

That article is a bit confusing... The main part says you can go there, but the Notes say: "There is no path, so there is no accessable way to enter it. The guard will not let you through." ^O__o^ Maybe you have to bribe him with Dwarven Ale or something. We all know how much guards like a good drink. EDIT: I tried going to the path from Zaishen Elite, and no go. Going through the portal in Zaishen Elite just dumps me directly into Zaishen Challenge. --Dragon nataku 23:07, 3 July 2008 (UTC)
Yeah, I got that same thing. I'm wondering if they just removed it altogether.... --User Wandering Traveler Oie User Wandering Traveler Sig2.png Wandering Traveler 04:26, 4 July 2008 (UTC)
If you have Elite accessable, can't you go there, hike up 4000 feet of incline, and go though the portal to the other end of the forbidden path? --Star Weaver 14:26, 5 July 2008 (UTC)
That's what I said I did, and that it dumped me directly into Zaishen Challenge, no actual path after the portal or anything. --Dragon nataku 16:44, 5 July 2008 (UTC)

Shielding Hands Skill Still messing up.

I would like to know when the developers are going to fix this skill? I have called the company on the phone about this along time ago, and still they have not fixed it. They have had time to make the game's farming runs harder, but cannot seem to be able to fix a skill that helps the player. Maybe the game was never play tested, or they were in a rush to put it out the door. Shielding Hands skill at times does not last the full time it is suppose to. It ends before it is suppose to, and u never know when that will happen. Are you sure the enemies aren't simply removing it via enchantment removal skills? Also, we're players like you, so we have no clue when the developers will fix the bug, if there is one, or if they even will, as they have more pressing things to attend to (GW2, Ursan, festivals, etc). Calor Talk 22:42, 4 July 2008 (UTC)
It still seems to be bugged. I was farming the Gates of Kryta mission, and after about several hundred hits, I'm still only getting half reduction. I am PcKiller The Monk, and the author of this thread.

I have been farming an area that has no enchantment removals skills what so ever at the time I was playing. Who knows, they may have nerfed it like they did First City a few days ago. Funny thing is that they actually made it easier to kill the skate lashers in First City by what they did. I just added smite conditions to remove the condition and damage the Lashers. Thank You Developer. Plus I am a 55 monk, and should be taking no damage with the build I use. The main problem is that the enchantment wears off before it is suppose to. As I start to take damage, -5 with every hit, and the skill is still lite in the enchant bar. It does not do it all the time, and it acts up on it own. You never know when it will stop early.--PcKiller The Monk 15:29, 5 July 2008 (UTC)

expansions

Can you buy one of the other expansions and still play it if u dont have prophcies?--The preceding unsigned comment was added by User:99.252.195.10 (talk).

Yes. Campaigns are independant between them, so you don't need one to play the others. About expansions, GW currently only has one (EotN, but the bonus mission pack may count as one also), whose only requirement is to own at least one of the campaigns. If you have Prophecies you will get access to a couple extra quests, but besides that there is no difference, so you can safely use it with any of the other campaigns.--Fighterdoken 19:51, 5 July 2008 (UTC)

Spark of Interest

Having trouble completing this quest. I go south to the beach but there is nothing there, I have the two ele skills equipped but to no avail. Can you help with this matter please.

The Stone of the Elements is on the dock-type thing on the beach near Shing Jea Monastery (on the left when first coming out of the monastery). If you go towards there and hold down Alt, you should be able to see the Stone's name pop up. Also, I don't know if this has been fixed or not, but way back when, sometimes neither the Stone nor Huan (the guy you have to fight for the Stone) will show up. If this has happened, try abandoning the quest and then re-acquire the quest from Ronsu and try again. --Dragon nataku 21:39, 5 July 2008 (UTC)

Running two Guild Wars programs?

I was wondering if, using a "tutorial" I found online in order to run two Guild Wars programs would be against the rules. I clicked, within the tutorial, to the link within the forum to read the discussion, but it said it did not exist. I figured they would have mentioned there, but since I couldn't find it, I wasn't sure where else to go.

I just registered a Wiki account, so I am unsure whether or not I should link to the tutorial, but it talks about editing RegEdit and copying the .exe file of Guild Wars and renaming in order to do this. I figured it might have been against a policy and wanted to check with the officials first :)

Also, my purpose for wanting to know is so that I may run two accounts that I currently own from the same computer since my other computers tend to be occupied.

Thanks in advance, --Aoeclald 01:52, 6 July 2008 (UTC)

I think but am not quite sure, that Anet's stance on that is the same as with mods like Textmod: That you can do whatever you want to your own game as long as it doesn't give you some sort of advantage, but they will not provide support for you if your game and/or computer EXPLODES because of it. Also, messing with your registry isn't highly recommended unless you actually know what you're doing. There is a certain program out there that will run two instances of GWs at the same time (providing you have two accounts), that I know will not steal your password or get you hacked any more than you usually would. But again, I am not completely sure about Anet's official standing on these things. --Dragon nataku 02:13, 6 July 2008 (UTC)
I hope I am answering this appropriately. :S Anywhom, alright, thank you for your help -- and yes, I have read the Texmod article here on the site, so I know what you are talking about. I will look through the policies, I suppose, and try to skim through anything that goes against what I am asking. Curious, though, is it allowed to state the program that can do that, because it might just happen to be on a search here which would definitely help my research on this investigation ^_^
In addition, using Google, it seems a lot of Hack/Cheat/etc. sites are offering the same information as I am asking, so, as it stands, it doesn't look like ANet will accept this. Oh well, that is fine. I am not saying that this discussion is over if anyone has more... "solid" information to provide, since this is all based on Google searches :)--Aoeclald 02:17, 6 July 2008 (UTC)

GWx2 is the site. No one that I know that has used it has ever been hacked/had their password stolen, so I suppose that means it is a safe proggy. Whether or not its use is accepted by Anet is another story entirely, although I suppose since GWx2 does not require anyone messing with their registry it is better than the other "solution." --Dragon nataku 02:54, 6 July 2008 (UTC)

I suggest installing all campaigns from the CDs and then doing the -image or leaving your game at the login screen overnight - it will download any content you don't currently have. 122.104.167.139 05:37, 7 July 2008 (UTC)

I have no virus and did the uninstall/ reinstall thingie, but it still take forever to walk from one area to next. What can I do to make it go faster? <-- Saori

What is the "Image command line thingie"? Some of the Graphics stuff not make sense to me and I just want this to load faster. Could I log in and leave in character select screen overnight if rest of files can be downloaded, or do I have to just go area to area and wait for couple hours between first? <-- Saori again

You can stay in the login screen (not logged in), and in the bottom right it will show files being downloaded. In a town only files in the area (eg. for lions arch) will be downloaded. Dominator Matrix 02:57, 8 July 2008 (UTC)

The -image command will download roughly 120k files, so you won't have to load files every time you step through a gate. Depending on your internet connection it can take many hours.. Command line arguments that page has the instructions. --Wyn's Talk page Wynthyst 03:01, 8 July 2008 (UTC)

Problems Loading part two

I am using software to reinstall the game, but I lost the product key for one of my campaigns... When and if I get playing again (if I don't die of old age first), will my progress be saved to the last point of when I played? Do I have to buy one of my campaigns again and also, will I have to start over all over again from ground-zero? O_O

As long as you have your user name and password to log into your account, you don't need to reenter the cd keys, and everything will be just as you left it on your account, but without the loading problems.--Wyn's Talk page Wynthyst 23:47, 6 July 2008 (UTC)
Except for things like if you stopped playing out in the field or in the middle of a mission or something, in which case when you start the game up again you will not end up in the same location in the field or mission as where you left off. Also, if you forgot your account name, you will need to find that somewhere, but not your CD keys. --Dragon nataku 23:51, 6 July 2008 (UTC)

Ranger Pet Commands

Don't know if this belongs HERE. Please forgive a novice and move it to the right spot.

I love my cyber pets. Each of my players has a ranger vocation so (s)he can have a pet. Each pet has an an appropriate name. But that is all I can do for them! They are my partners, my henchmen, my constant companions. How do I praise them or pet them (like I do my living furry pets)? Am I missing a command or did everyone ignore these valuable associates?

Commands I would like to see and cannot find: /stroke = to stroke or comfort pet - spells are NOT enough; /praise = when my pet kills a particularly vicious or noxious creature - especially if I have died in the process. Even a /LaudPet = when the pet saves multiple players or is particularly valiant against a much stronger foe.

[I don't believe the bonuses (ie: for killing char bosses) benefit our pet partners, only our human companions.]

Am I missing commands - are they undocumented? I cannot find any way to praise my pet!

75.81.102.224 05:25, 7 July 2008 (UTC)

There are no commands like that. The best you could do is /cheer when your pet does something. Guild Wars isn't very strong in the Role Play area of the game. Pets aren't considered Party Members but Allies and thus they don't receive buffs or healing from spells or abilities which effect Party Members only. 122.104.167.139 05:34, 7 July 2008 (UTC)
You can heal them with monk/rit healing spells, though, unless they've changed it. I don't usually heal pets unless I'm really really bored and nobody else is getting hurt badly enough to warrant something thrown their way. I like my ingame pets, too, but I'm not particularly bothered by the lack of emotes for pets. It's hard enough trying to get them to stay still long enough to take a screencap so I can show my non-GWs-playing friends the cool pets ingame. I'd rather not contemplate how long it would take me to be able to catch my pet and pet him/her. ... also, some of my pets I'd rather not do so anyway... petting a spider is kinda ick, and we all know what a black moa did to Zho's eye. X_o <-- like that. Perhaps you might want to make a suggestion for emotes for pets for GW2? --Dragon nataku 17:43, 7 July 2008 (UTC)

primary quest problem

Hi

So im trying to do one of the first primary mission which is "warning the tengu" so i have a big problem with this quest, i know where is Aerie, but the problem is that after having talked to Soar there is no arrow and Talon isint there..so as the afflicted creature that im supose to kill i have tried abondoning the quest and re boring guild wars same thing.. please help me =( --The preceding unsigned comment was added by User:74.59.131.142 (talk).

I don't know for sure if that particular quest is affected or not, but some others are. As in, if you were trying to do regular Factions quests while having a Dragon Festival quest active, you wouldn't be able to finish the regular Factions quest. Now that the Festival is over, if you still have one of those quests active, try abandoning it and trying the Tengu quest again? --Dragon nataku 17:37, 7 July 2008 (UTC)
This bug appeared last year during the festival. It is a conflict between Dragon Festival quests and that particular quest. Just complete your Dragon Festival quests on that character and then try it again. I had this happen to me last year too. 122.104.167.139 18:21, 7 July 2008 (UTC)
Well, I suggested they abandon the Dragon Festival quest cause, as I said, the Festival is over now, so I'm pretty sure he won't be able to get the reward for the Dragon Festival quest if Hanjo or whatever the NPC's name is, is gone now. --Dragon nataku 18:56, 7 July 2008 (UTC)

Special Edition

I didnt get any of them special edition packs when i bought the games but would like to know if its possible to buy an upgrade or something that would give me access to the newdance emote.

/dancenew is for collector's edition of GW Factions and Nightfall. - Y0_ich_halt User Y0 ich halt sig.jpg 20:14, 7 July 2008 (UTC)
uh, to answer your question: if the upgrade is available in the ingame store, an upgrade should be possible. i see little reason why it shouldn't. - Y0_ich_halt User Y0 ich halt sig.jpg 20:15, 7 July 2008 (UTC)
I'm pretty sure that the GWs online store does not have collector's edition keys available. At least, they haven't the last million times I've perused the things they do have. Buying them elsewhere is difficult for two reasons: 1) No stores (at least, in America) have them anymore (I can't even find Nightfall CE in stores anymore and there used to be a million copies of those floating about), and 2) other places have them for insane prices (I've seen Prophecies CE for around USD $300, and Factions at least USD $100). If you're talking about things like the Game of the Year edition or whatever, they don't have /dancenew, and Prophecies CE doesn't have it either (the special thingy for Proph CE is the Divine Aura), just Factions CE and Nightfall CE, for sins/rits (Factions) and paras/dervs (NF) only.
Anyway, if you do manage to find a copy of a CE somewhere, you can add the CD Key to your existing account (make sure you don't make a new account by accident!), but it will only add the extra features (like /dancenew and the Varesh minipet for Nightfall CE), nothing else. No extra character slots or storage tabs or anything. --Dragon nataku 22:50, 7 July 2008 (UTC)
insane prices? - Y0_ich_halt User Y0 ich halt sig.jpg 16:04, 8 July 2008 (UTC)
What? That's Nightfall CE... nobody wants that one cause Varesh mini's selling price sucks, as opposed to the mini Kuuny from Factions CE, or having Divine Aura on any character of any profession you make. This is what I'm talking about. Note that the USED one is 300 bucks. ^@__@^;; --Dragon nataku 19:00, 8 July 2008 (UTC)
it's only about dancenew, and nightfall CE also has that. your link is to proph which doesn't even feature a dancenew. but gotta say, those prices are really insane. go ebay instead xD - Y0_ich_halt User Y0 ich halt sig.jpg 19:18, 8 July 2008 (UTC)
I know Proph CE doesn't have a /dancenew, I was just commenting on your comment about the online store having CE CD keys. And Ebay doesn't have Proph CE anyway, at least not new (the one listed there is used and does not include a CD key). I don't trust Ebay for stuff involving CD keys anyway, as they will often ship "new, unopened" boxes without CD keys or with used CD keys. ^-__-^ --Dragon nataku 07:03, 9 July 2008 (UTC)

Since this is about CE as well, I'm puitting it here. When you add CE key on top of your exisiting account that already have a normal edition of the same chapter, will you get extra character slots from CE? – User Barinthus Magical Compass.png Barinthus 19:05, 8 July 2008 (UTC)

No, I said that already. No extra storage tabs either. --Dragon nataku 20:29, 8 July 2008 (UTC)
Doh, you did aleady say that, sowwy. Tired, me. Thanks for your response, however. – User Barinthus Magical Compass.png Barinthus 03:26, 9 July 2008 (UTC)
np, if I can stand around in Lion's Arch half of the time I'm ingame, answering questions like "How do I get to Factions/Nightfall?," "Where is armer??," and "WHR IS CATHAN AMBASADER!?," answering your question isn't gonna bother me. :op Although perhaps someone should make a note of the "adding a CE of a campaign you already own does not add char slots/storage tabs" information somewhere in some article or another... I just don't know which one it would go in. --Dragon nataku 03:37, 9 July 2008 (UTC)
Exactly. I did visit CE pages and did not see anything regarding not getting character slots. A mention in each CE page's notes section would be good. – User Barinthus Magical Compass.png Barinthus 04:09, 9 July 2008 (UTC)

W/E build

No. Warriors are generally supposed to use adrenaline attacks and have no use for energy, so they are only given 20 base energy. To make up for this, they have stronger armor. If you want more energy, use some Runes of Attunement and Radiant Insignias. Calor Talk 00:40, 8 July 2008 (UTC)
And wield a staff in the relevant attribute, which will give you an extra 10 energy. Although honestly casting spells as a warrior is going to gain you alot of ingame hate from pugs. -- Salome User salome sig.png 01:01, 8 July 2008 (UTC)
With only two pips of energy regeneration, a warrior makes for a very poor casting class. Even with things like a full set of Radiant armor and a staff, I would not recommend that a warrior relies upon spells. But to answer the original question -- there are some spells you can use as a Warrior/Elementalist, such as Conjure Frost with a weapon that does cold damage. Or by using things like Glyph of Lesser Energy before a spell or two.
But even if you decide that a W/E isn't the way you want to go, all is not lost. You mentioned being in the Crystal Desert -- and that's where you need to be to gain Ascension. Once you have Ascended, you will be able to change your secondary profession. So don't feel like you've wasted your time -- there are only three things you can't change about your character. Appearance (including gender), name, and primary profession. --Nkuvu User Nkuvu sig button.jpg 01:54, 8 July 2008 (UTC)
Mage Knight, anyone? ^<__<^;; In other news, there was a time when crazy people used a build (or variants thereof) called "Obby tank," which was basically a warrior that used earth magic spells that increased armour (specifically named for the elite Earth spell Obsidian Flesh, but some used other similar Earth skills as well). Basically, you stand there and take the hits while your party kills off everything. Sooooo... yeah, the W/E has been done before (some say to death), but most people don't do it because of the whole "most good ele skills cost a lot of energy and wars only have 20 energy" thing. There's also the Shock warrior of old, I suppose. I've always played W/Me's for no reason other than when I made my first one nobody ever used that combo. :op Back in the days of pure wammos, that is... --Dragon nataku 04:38, 8 July 2008 (UTC)
We saw some shock warriors in some or the other of our semi-recent GvG observation. Conjure warriors (and dervishes, and a few of anything else with a weapon) are pretty popular too.
Also, there are a fair number of 5 energy cost elementalist spells. Lava Arrows -- sorta like flare, but three hits at once and it's half range anyway. Water Trident -- if you want to use your elite slot, spammable damage and knockdown on healer-chasers. Teinai's Wind -- Everything around you that is attacking is knocked down, win. Starburst -- another elite, but it's a touch AOE. Go sort Elementalist skills by cost and look for cheap stuff that would be more annoying for a squishie to use or otherwise capitilizes on you being in the fray :). If you use a hammer, having Bed of Coals might be handy even at 10 energy due to knockdown synergy, for example, too; it's only every 30 seconds too. --Star Weaver 13:09, 8 July 2008 (UTC)

Blue character tags showing in towns

When I enter any town/city/community every player has a little blue tag, usually with the number 1 to 4 beside it, as well as their class and level (abbreviated to look like this example: ME/N 9). How do I turn this off; it is kind of annoying.

Making maps

OK, so... I dunno if this is possible... but anyway. I have seen maps in some places, of all of Tyria or all of Elona, etc., etc. But when you press M, there are clouds floating all over the map. I don't mean the fuzzy areas where you haven't been to, either. I mean actual constantly-moving cloud-ish thingies over the entire map. But the maps I've seen in places don't have these clouds. Is there a way to get rid of them on your M map or are all of those maps I see in random places just scans of the poster-maps that come with some editions of the game? I've tried messing with my graphics settings: turning off shaders, shadows, stuff like that, and to no avail. --Dragon nataku 19:36, 10 July 2008 (UTC)

I don't think there are any ways to turn off the clouds, and the poster maps are sometimes inaccurate. I think that most of them are just screenshots of the mission map ('U') pasted together. Isn't this more of a wiki question, though? --Chaiyo Kaldor talk contribs 19:38, 10 July 2008 (UTC)

Farming

Why is all the skills being nerfed that has anything to do with any kind of farming? Bots are continuously let run free for people to make tons of money on but the people that are actually at the computer can't do the same thing. The most recent nerf, Shadow Form. What harm does it do for people to farm for ectoplasm in the underworld. The only real purpose in the game for ectoplasm is the FoW armor. We pay for the game, we have fun farming and it gets nerfed. Item drops suck. Item drops are few and far in between. Gold drops suck. Merchs for the guild hall are too damn expensive for all this crap to be nerfed all the time.

Why is everything being nerfed?

Because the builds are overpowered. You're not supposed to be able to solo areas designed for a party of eight level 20 characters. And according to today's developer update, they're planning to buff some of the bad elites next month. -- Gordon Ecker 01:59, 11 July 2008 (UTC)
Also, Shadow Form wasn't always able to be on permanently, so it's more like they are fixing something that messed up the game economy (I mean, there was a time when ectos were 10k each at the trader. The other day, they were almost 3k each!). Also, FoW armour isn't the only use for ectos ingame. Trades involving something that is priced above 100k (max amount of gold you can give in a trade at one time) ends up with people making up for the difference in price by adding ectos to the 100k. Some people will only deal in ectos (no gold). Plus, I think FoW armour was originally intended to be "uber-elite" or something, since it cost so much before, but with everyone and their mother doing perma-Shadow Form, the price to get FoW armour has gone down a lot, making it less "l337" or whatever. (*Note: I am not saying that FoW is "uber-l337" in my personal opinion, I am just guessing that that was Anet's original intention by making it so expensive and annoying to acquire) --Dragon nataku 02:05, 11 July 2008 (UTC)

Gold

I am in Eye of the North from Nightfall. In the explorable areas I pick up the gold the monsters drop, but it doesn't get to my inventory. The information screen shows that my character picks up the gold.--98.199.173.45 02:14, 13 July 2008 (UTC)

First, use the new section '+' tab for a new question. Second, do you mean that no gold enters your inventory, or just some of it? If none, then do you have 100k in your inventory? That could do it too. That's all of which I could think. --Chaiyo Kaldor talk contribs 02:18, 13 July 2008 (UTC)
To expand on Chaiyo's explanation, by "just some of it" he means that the gold gets divided up equally amoungst your party members. Including heroes and henches. So if you were by yourself and picked up 16 gold, the gold in your inventory would increase by 16. But if you were one out of a party of four (whether real people, heroes, or hench) and picked up 16g, the gold in your inventory would only increase by 4. And in a party of eight, the gold in your inventory would only increase by 2 after picking up 16g. Personally, I think that if they're your personal heroes, you should get their share of the drops/gold, but oh well. :op --Dragon nataku 02:56, 13 July 2008 (UTC)

luxons merchants wont sell to me

As far as i know, i do not have any alliance points for either the luxons or the kurzicks. despite this, kurzick merchants will sell to me and luxon merchants will not. why is this?--68.22.199.29 23:33, 13 July 2008 (UTC)

If you are in a guild aligned Kurzick, the Luxon merchants won't talk to you if you don't have more Luxon faction than Kurzick on your account. --Wyn's Talk page Wynthyst 23:39, 13 July 2008 (UTC)
Also, having done Boreas Seabed or Arbourstone missions gives you faction points for their respective factions (Arbourstone gives Kurz, and Boreas gives Lux), so if you've done Arbourstone and not Boreas, then you will have more Kurz points than Lux. For future reference, you can press the H key to open your personal hero window, make sure you're on the Faction tab, and you can check to see how many faction points you have in Kurz or Lux. --Dragon nataku 02:30, 14 July 2008 (UTC)

Kodonur Crossroads Mission

Not usre if this is a bug or otherwise and I cannot find the right place to do this but I have now been into the lission twice and on both occassions having completed everything except the final assault, I cannot open the first cell. The lever activates but the cell door does not open. A bit frustrating

In the Kodonur Crossroads mission, you must collect Cell Keys in order to open the cells.--JupiterStarWarrior 19:50, 14 July 2008 (UTC)

What quest are you talking about? I'm pretty sure there's a Factions quest that requires "planting" seeds, that has nothing to do with any festivals. --User Jioruji Derako logo.png Jïörüjï Ðērākō.>.cнаt^ 18:05, 13 July 2008 (UTC)

Nightfall Help

Hi um i need help getting off the first bit in nightfall i'm stuck on the moon shaped island near chahbek i need help and if there are any aussie guilds that can help me and let me join as officer i would be glad to help in any way

1) Please do not post an unrelated question in someone else's topic. 2) "Moon-shaped island near chahbek"? Err... The only moon-shaped island I know of in NF is Gandara, the Moon Fortress. But that's nowhere near Chahbek Village... It's not even in Istan. Perhaps you mean a different area? Try to be a bit more specific and maybe we can help you a little better. 3) Perhaps you could try asking around ingame for an Aussie guild? --Dragon nataku 18:47, 14 July 2008 (UTC)

The Wiki does not list prices for anything here, as prices for weapons/minipets/mods/whatever are too variable to keep track of. Try Guild Wars Guru's Price Check forums maybe? --Dragon nataku 18:41, 14 July 2008 (UTC)

Factions/Kinya Province

i just recently purchased factions and have had multiple characters get past the first mission. Everytime i get to eh warning the tengu quest, or any other quest that takes place in the kinya province i no longer have an arrow and the quests are uncompletable as the targets of the quests don't exist. i have literally searched the entire region and have never found the afflicted creature from warning the tengu quest, honorclaw guy from the assassin training quest ( i believe it is called dual strike or some variant thereof), or the mysterious stone(once again i forgot the quest) quest which you get right after getting your elementalists insignia. is it a glitch or have other people experienced this problem. (tried looking around but i can't seem to look up the right stuff.) answer please this is the most annoying thing that i have dealt with. ```` (if i didn't sign write sorry i am very new at this)

Check your quest log to see if you have anything under "Festival Quests", and if you do, abandon them. The quests from the recent Dragon Festival have been known the glitch the area in the past. --Valshia 21:51, 14 July 2008 (UTC)
I have taken the liberty of posting a note on the pages of the quests that I know can be affected by Dragon Festival quests. Even though the Dragon Festival is now over, we keep getting these questions. Also, the same thing happened last year during the Dragon Festival, and probably the year before that (I just can't remember that far back. Blame old age :op ). So I figured it would be worth it to note that. --Dragon nataku 22:39, 14 July 2008 (UTC)

non - stacking

what is non - stacking?? The preceding unsigned comment was added by 90.197.32.146 (talk • contribs) at 22:05, July 14, 2008 (UTC).

Items that you can only have 1 of them per inventory slot, instead of being able to stack multiple of them in a single inventory slot. For instance, materials and keys are stacking, but minipets are not. If you have 2 of the same minipet, you still have to put them in 2 different inventory slots, whereas if you have two of the same key, you just put them together in a stacked slot. Go to Aiiane's Talk page (Aiiane - talk - contribs) 22:15, 14 July 2008 (UTC)
I think he meant in relation to rune effects, modifiers and the like. I don't know how best to explain that, so go ahead. --User Brains12 Spiral.png Brains12 \ talk 22:18, 14 July 2008 (UTC)
I'll take a shot at explaining it, I suppose. It's kinda like Aiiane said in relation to materials, but slightly different. Some benefits will stack (i.e., if you use a warrior's Knight's Insignia, you can put one on each piece of your warrior's armour and get the benefits on each piece of armour). Some will not (like Vigor runes, which means that if you put a Major Vigor rune on one armour piece and a Minor Vigor rune on another piece, you will NOT have both HP benefits, just the benefits from the Major Vigor rune). Basically, if the thing says (non-stacking) in the item description, then even if you have two things that have the same effect equipped, you will NOT get the benefits from both; just one of them. --Dragon nataku 22:28, 14 July 2008 (UTC)
Just to add to Dragons explanation, in regard to Rune of <type> <attribute> you won't get the benefits of both runes but you will get both of the negatives. So for example if you place a Rune of Major Energy Storage and a Rune of Superior Energy Storage on your armor you will only get +3 Energy Storage (not +5) but will receive both the -75 health and the -35 health for a total of -110 health. --Kakarot Talk 22:44, 14 July 2008 (UTC)

chat logs

Is there a way I can access my chat logs? I need to access them because my guild leader pmed me the info for ventrilo and the password so I have to get the log so I can see again what it was so I can add it to my ventrilo client.

--RothShar M 02:51, 15 July 2008 (UTC)

So long as your chat window is still open, you can scroll up through the chat log and view everything. If you've closed the game or logged out, or just switched characters, the chat log resets... unfortunately, nothing there is saved. You'll need to ask your guild leader for the info again, and write it down somewhere. --User Jioruji Derako logo.png Jïörüjï Ðērākō.>.cнаt^ 04:55, 15 July 2008 (UTC)
Also, the chat window log only holds a certain number of messages, so if you're in a busy district, well, any messages you may want to go over again will get pushed off the log rather quickly. --Dragon nataku 04:59, 15 July 2008 (UTC)

Missions

i am curious why my canthan protector is saying i have only completed 4 missions and bonuses when i have 6 complete andwhy my elonian protector is saying i have only completed 14 when i have completed 16 of the regular missions. thanks you , also what are the last 3 missions required for elona

Have you gotten full Master rewards on all six missions, or only Expert rewards? The title should be accurate. Same goes for Elonian protector.
List of Nightfall missions will tell you the last three missions... they're inside of the Realm of Torment, if you can't spot them on the normal map, you'll need to enter the Gate of Torment. --User Jioruji Derako logo.png Jïörüjï Ðērākō.>.cнаt^ 04:55, 15 July 2008 (UTC)

Can two damage types stack?

HI: I want to know (for Dervish) if, when using two types of damage skills (ie: cold and holy) at the same time (both last 30 seconds) will the two damage amounts stack or will only one have an effect on the enemy?--24.202.63.130 06:53, 15 July 2008 (UTC)

Ummm... OK, I think I know which two skills you are talking about. Grenth's Fingers and Heart of Holy Flame, perhaps? They both last 30 seconds, yes. But the "damage amounts" you're talking about... I think either you're a tad confused or I'm just not understanding your question right. They both say something like "All adjacent foes are struck for (number) (cold/holy) damage." Both of those will happen when you activate the skills. The next part of both skills says "For 30 seconds, your attacks deal (cold/holy) damage," with no number attached to them. So I dunno what you mean by "two damage amounts," as that part of both skills doesn't have an amount attached to them. I am not completely sure if you will do cold AND holy damage at the same time (but I don't quite think this is possible), but both skills can remain active at the same time. I think that the second skill you use overrides the first in only this regard (cold vs holy). If this is not so, then someone who knows more about this aspect than I do can add to this explanation. The last part of those skills say "When this enchantment ends, all adjacent foes are (crippled/set on fire) for (time) seconds." Both of these conditions will occur when the enchantment ends, even if both skills are active (I just tried it out). I hope that helps? --Dragon nataku 17:44, 15 July 2008 (UTC)
