Ascalon hard mode

I'm trying to accomplish vanquisher.. but when I go to Ascalon hard mode, you can only fight with 3 people. how in the world is one suppose to get that done when they attack you in group of 6 or more and they r all higher level then you???? plz help!!!!!!!!!!!!!!The preceding unsigned comment was added by 208.14.250.32 (talk • contribs) at 22:30, 30 September 2008 (UTC).

6 or more? Try not running straight to where the mobs are, but pulling them instead with a bow or spell. You shouldn't be getting groups higher than 4 as far as i remember, unless they are traps.
If you have problems you can go to Yaks, get a 6-man group and go back to Ascalon, or go to ToA and get a 8-man group. Also, if you have heroes or human players you should not be having problems really, but if you are playing only with henchmen you will need a reausable rez ideally, some form of snare (grawl healers LOVE to run in circles), some way to break stances, and be willing to sacrifice your henchmen when needed for you to stay alive :).--Fighterdoken 22:16, 30 September 2008 (UTC)
It can be done with 4, if you have plenty of DP removers and consumables. I think Eastern Frontier (which is by far the worst) took me 5 hrs with 3 heroes. --Wyn's Talk page Wyn 22:20, 30 September 2008 (UTC)
Bring things that will increase your party size, Summoning Stones, Summon Ice Imp, Ebon Vanguard Assassin Support, a minion master is probably the best thing to use in those low level areas. This will help mitigate your direct damage and require less healing. Unindal 14:02, 2 October 2008 (UTC)

Outpost ownership

How does a guild come to own an outpost in Factions? Shadowcat Arkwright--172.194.161.168 07:43, 2 October 2008 (UTC)

In short: the alliance with the highest amount of Factions owns the biggest towns (Cavalon for Luxon and House zu Heltzer for Kurzick).
Alliance battle will tell how the remaining towns will be distributed (which Faction will retain the higher amount of them).
These outposts will be awarded for the alliances with the higher amount of factions. --NIN37 08:11, 2 October 2008 (UTC)

Getting bonus without completing quest

Hi,

I'm going for the various protector titles and I have a few quests I completed without completing the bonuses in all the campaigns. The bonus page says you get credit for completing bonuses as soon as they're done in Prophecies, but I finished Borlis Pass' bonus, got the sword & shield animation, then mapped back to town and discovered that it hadn't actually given me credit for the bonus.

tl;dr: how to get bonuses without completing the whole quest, if possible. All campaigns, but proph is most important.

Thanks. --71.229.253.172 08:03, 2 October 2008 (UTC)

It should give you credit for the bonus in a mission even if you don't finish the mission; my first thought would be, maybe you should have waited for a moment before you mapped out. I believe it should show up right away when you finish the bonus; check your Hero panel or just check the map, and make sure you got your title progression or completion icon before you leave the mission.
There are a few missions that you can "lose" the bonus from as the mission progresses, but I don't think Borlis Pass is one of them.
As for the other campaigns, since Factions is entirely time-based, you'll need to finish the mission every time, unfortunately. No seperate bonus to complete.
Nightfall on the other hand, I'm not certain... but you should be able to complete the bonus without completing the mission (although with many of the missions, you'll be at the end of the mission when you complete the bonus anyway). Like I mentioned before, do yourself a favor and check your title or map when it tells you you've completed the bonus, just to make sure it sticks. --User Jioruji Derako logo.png Jïörüjï Ðērākō.>.cнаt^ 08:11, 2 October 2008 (UTC)
No, you always need to complete the mission to get credit for the bonus in Nightfall. -- Gordon Ecker 08:24, 2 October 2008 (UTC)
I waited about five minutes before mapping out, next time I'll afk for a while longer. Thanks for the help. --71.229.253.172 08:25, 2 October 2008 (UTC)
Well, first, "getting just the bonus" only applies to Prophecies.
Both Factions and Nightfall use the "Standard/Expert/Master's Reward" system. Standard usually just requires you to finish the mission. Expert will require you not to just finish it, but do it in a better way (in less time for most Factions missions and fulfilling more requisites on Nightfall); Master's will usually require you to complete the mission on an even more complete way (either with a shorter time or by having more stuff done). If you missed Expert and/or Master's, you'll have to redo the entire mission.
Back to your original question, you should get the "Bonus completed" message as soon as you fulfill it. Waiting 5 or 30 minutes should not matter. --NIN37 08:35, 2 October 2008 (UTC)

007 - Bond, James Bond

While I was in a UW SC last night, we finished the run and we all got the UW Chest. Moments after we were all warping around getting the quests and the rewards, 6/8 of us were disconnected from the game with 007 error. We were all on vent talking about it. Localized playing areas were Ontario, UK, Texas, and STL. Seems odd that it all of a sudden happened. Any ideas on what could have happened? Unindal 14:06, 2 October 2008 (UTC)

If you were all still on vent then it could be a problem with your ISPs connection. Only thing I can think of.- TheRave User TheRave sig.jpg (talk) 15:43, 2 October 2008 (UTC)
If they were all still on vent, and they were based in disperse geographical locations, it's certainly not an ISP issue on the user-side. More likely a server or routing problem on ArenaNet's side. Biscuits User Biscuits sig.png 16:06, 2 October 2008 (UTC)

Biblical Problem

Why is "Sodom" considered to be an offensive name part but "Gomorrha" not? To a lesser extend I don't understand why people who actually (and believe me there are some) with the correct name "Gaylord" are discriminated against by being prohibited to use their name as part of their character name. Noctarch 15:38, 5 October 2008 (UTC)

Presumably its because this names have alternative meanings, and normally more popular meanings. But tbh I do agree with you, some of the blocked names are a bit unreasonable.- TheRave User TheRave sig.jpg (talk) 15:44, 5 October 2008 (UTC)
Is there any way or option to solve this unfair treaty? Noctarch 15:47, 5 October 2008 (UTC)
I have a mate who lives in london, he wanted to call himself <censored> The Cockney, guess why he couldn't do that? Perhaps some words need to be specifically allowed despite censorship rules. I can't think of a valid word at the moment that contains "fuck" or "cunt", but that doesn't mean they don't exist. Misery 20:42, 9 October 2008 (UTC)
Are you actually seriously asking that question, or just trying to provoke a flame war? Assuming your question is in good faith, it's because Sodom is short for sodomy, which is banned like all sexual references because of the game's rating. Also, the EULA states that any name can be changed that "NC Interactive deems at its sole discretion to be vulgar or otherwise offensive". So basically, it's up to them, and everyone who plays the game agreed this before they created the characters. Also, Gaylord is now more frequently used as a derogatory term for a homosexual nowadays. Anyway, if somebody had their name changed and it was legitimate, I'm sure support would be more than happy to investigate, and either take action or explain why the decision was made. You can't actually enter this thing, as far as I know. The weapon in question, however, may or may not be the unique green item he sometimes drops (Rotwing Recurve Bow, specifically). And anyway, the article on Rotscale states that the "powerful weapon" is just a rumour (but that also may have been written before Rotscale started dropping his green). One could also speculate that this is where the White Mantle found the Scepter of Orr in that cutscene (since Majesty's Rest is on the border between Maguuma and Kryta) and that cutscene shows that White Mantle chick appearing out of a similar "tomb" with the Scepter in hand. Then again, Rotscale wasn't in that cutscene, so who knows. Hence the word "speculate." --Dragon nataku 13:44, 6 October 2008 (UTC)

See guide to playing as an elementalist. -- Gordon Ecker 02:48, 7 October 2008 (UTC)
Don't forget Elementalist's primary attribute: Energy Storage (which will increase the max amount of energy your character will have). :P
Like Gordon Ecker said, take a look at both Elementalist and its guide, so you could have a good idea on what is an Elementalist (and how to use its skills).
If you're looking for builds, try PvXwiki, they might have some nice skill sets you could check to see how an Elementalist works...
Honestly, for PvE, most builds will work (some will work better for some areas while other will work so-so almost anywhere). Don't be afraid to test different builds... if it seems inefficient, just go back to some outpost and chance it...
And please sign your contributions by adding 4 tildes (~~~~) to the end of it. --NIN37 02:51, 7 October 2008 (UTC)
Also, don't feel like you have to be tied to elementalist skills. With Energy Storage, Elementalists can actually make pretty effective healers and interrupters. The great part about this game is it lets you be creative. --User Tero Gein sig.jpgtero 11:53, 7 October 2008 (UTC)

login screens

is ti possible to get oen of the older logi nscreens for your login area --The preceding unsigned comment was added by User:99.182.83.40 (talk).

short answer: no. that image is chosen by ANet and there's nothing we can do about it. When they decide to change the picture (usually when a new campaign/expansion is released), everyone will get the newer image.
long answer: check Guide to modifying in-game graphics. Using a third-party program, it is possible to change how GW looks like. But keep in mind that using any kind of third-party program is not supported by ANet/PlayNC/GuildWars and might be against their ToS, so, use it at your own risk. --NIN37 03:08, 7 October 2008 (UTC)
No it changes with campaigns with the new features. Dominator Matrix 03:06, 7 October 2008 (UTC)
Would be awesome if we could, though. And choose the music that plays on the login screen, as well. I mean, the GW:EN background image is... decent and all, but it's really really dark, so taking screenies of your armour in the login screen just looks awful. Also, the login theme for Prophecies makes me feel all nostalgic for when Prophecies was the only GWs incarnation, and the Factions one is really pretty (I have the soundtracks on disc). But oh well, wishful thinking is what it is. *loads the themes on Winamp* :op --Dragon nataku 15:13, 7 October 2008 (UTC)

I'm not sure you can compare them as the Mouvlian Calendar is fictional. I suppose you could say, for example, Prophecies the "Present Day" is 1072AE and Prophecies was released in 2005AD. So we're in 1075AE. I think that would fall apart though because as far as I can remember the "Present Day" for Factions and Nightfall is different (I can't confirm because I can't find the "Manuscripts" for them).- TheRave User TheRave sig.png (talk) 09:25, 7 October 2008 (UTC)
Try Timeline. It's worth noting that the Prophecies campaign operates in two periods of time with Pre-Searing more or less existing two years in 'the past' as far as the main game is concerned. -- WarBlade 12:11, 7 October 2008 (UTC)

I wonder is there is a possibility in Guildwars to play with everyone online, like you can in World of warcraft, so that you dont have to be in a party to enter a game together. And I bought Eye of the North but dont see any difference to my game, what difference is there?

I'm not sure about a global definition but this is what is defined in my head:
  • N00bs – Don't know what to do and don't know how to do it.
  • Nubs – Don't know what to do but might be able to do it.
  • Scrubs – Know what to do but don't know how to do it.
  • Pros – Know what to do and how to do it.

You sir, encountered one of the many elitists that frequent high-level PvP. Generally, in HA, you need some of the most gimmicky gimmick builds from gimmickland to last and be accepted. Let's not forget, those pricks also want you to be rank 14 in a title only people who play GW as a second job have. The only advice for you is to continue having some actual fun in RA/AB/TA, etc... Or you can haul over to pvxwiki.com and find some of those gimmick builds for your use! Someday you'll fix that rank deal :P - VanguardUser-VanguardAvatar.PNG 16:37, 7 October 2008 (UTC)
I agree, I've never got into HA because their so elitist.- TheRave User TheRave sig.png (talk) 16:38, 7 October 2008 (UTC)

If you're going deep in PvP, you should consider joining a PvP-oriented Guild. Having more people playing PvP would increase the chances of finding players (your guild mates) doing one of the Arenas so you could go there with a full-guild party (well, if guild mates still insult you for not being high-ranked and do not help you get into PvP to raise your rank, then you chose a wrong guild). :P --NIN37 17:24, 7 October 2008 (UTC)
Or you could make friends with a high-ranked HA player and they can vouch for you in HA teams. This is what my one r10 friend tries to do with me (I have the incredible number of ONE fame), but he doesn't understand I don't like PvP and things that require Flavour of the Week builds... But yeah. Find a friend with a high rank and ask to tag along. You might want to ask that friend for pointers first, though, or the name-calling will go from "scrub" to "n00b" real fast. Also, PvP is not the only way to get "better at Guild Wars," no matter what the PvP-elitists tell you (but that opens up the whole "LOLZ PvE iz nub!" "lulz u PvP elitist n00b" debate). In other news, wasn't there a TLC song a million years ago called "Scrubs"? --Dragon nataku 12:40, 8 October 2008 (UTC)
Last week I got God Walking Amongst Mere Mortals on my 5th character, how much better at PvE do you want me to be? Also I have gotten a 38 win streak from Random Arenas and I can play any class with almost any elite (except the really bad ones) and get a glad point so I don't see what new there is to do in Random Arenas. Edward 12:47, 8 October 2008 (UTC)
You could also try to get some guildies interested, or form your own HA groups. Easiest way to avoid elitist groups is to make your own. :) Biscuits User Biscuits sig.png 12:50, 8 October 2008 (UTC)

Why are you using that for healing? Endure Pain is not a self heal, Shadow Refuge is mediocree, and Death's Charge/Heart of Shadow have crappy recharge. If you want your melee hero to self-heal, some skills that heroes use well are Vigorous Spirit, Troll Unguent, and Mystic Regeneration. There's probably others, but those are the first skills to pop into my head. Really, you want to get into the habit of letting your healers take care of healing, and let your melee characters worry about damage. However, if you feel you must give them a self-heal, limit yourself to using only one (possibly two) skill slots. Also, I try to stay away from Endure Pain for general use because it tends to give you a false sense of security. --User Tero Gein sig.jpgtero 11:45, 8 October 2008 (UTC)
You only use skills like Endure Pain and Defy Pain when you know that you're not the brunt of attacks. The AI tends to stray from attacking high-healthed people. That is however, not healthy for heroes.- VanguardUser-VanguardAvatar.PNG 21:15, 8 October 2008 (UTC)

Nonetheless, Prophecies shares the same map/continent Eye of the North uses. Major glitch? or something.

Well, i tried to start playing guild wars, but the log in screen had multi-colored squares randomly scattered on the entire screen. Like that glitch pokemon you find in pokemon red or blue, but in color. So i x'd out, and tried playing again, but it had to load something or other, and took a bit to load. now when that happened and the game itself came on my screen, the window was considerably smaller then how i usually keep it. I enlarged it, but the log in box's stayed small instead of getting larger, as usual. i logged in, and all of my characters are wearing different armor then the ones they should have on, and all different colors. Plus they are all in different slots, certainly not in alphabetical order, and with blank slots in between them. I x'd out and repeated the attempt to play again, ending with all my characters in different colors outfits then every other time yet. So i figured what the hell and tried to play anyways, but it had to load even more stuff, and i didn't feel like sitting through it, as in one minute it hadn't even gone to 1% complete. What is wrong with my game? sorry i'm terrible at explaining things. Sorry if this isn't exactly 'game related' but i figured its the closest to it.--72.70.63.108 01:06, 14 October 2008 (UTC)

At first i was going to say "your video card is melting", but actually it seems like your gw.dat file got corrupted somehow. At this point, probably the best course of action would be deleting it, and then downloading the whole GW again (with the -image paramenter).--Fighterdoken 01:11, 14 October 2008 (UTC)
What's the image paramenter?--72.70.63.108 01:15, 14 October 2008 (UTC)
The image parameter, when inputted, will download all the updates needed for the game to run. This drastically decreases load time in game and the like. However, it takes quite some time to get all of the updates, so be patient. :) --User Wandering Traveler Oie User Wandering Traveler Sig2.png Wandering Traveler 01:17, 14 October 2008 (UTC)
Wow, you kinda suck at helping, Traveler. :( --72.70.63.108 18:30, 14 October 2008 (UTC)
@72.70: this page has an explanation of what the image parameter is and how to use it. --80.237.152.53 01:26, 14 October 2008 (UTC)

So i uninstalled and reinstalled the game, and i'm still having the same problem... ): any ideas?--72.70.63.108 01:41, 14 October 2008 (UTC)

Do you meet the system requirements? What video card are you using? -- Gordon Ecker 02:06, 14 October 2008 (UTC)
I've been playing the game previously, my system meets requirements.--72.70.63.108 02:26, 14 October 2008 (UTC)
Did you recently update your video driver?--Dunyas User Dunyas sig.png 02:47, 14 October 2008 (UTC)
I don't believe so.--72.70.63.108 02:48, 14 October 2008 (UTC)
Why not use the -repair option to exclude the possibility that the .Dat file was not refreshed when the game was reinstalled. This would repair the .dat file without deleting it. --Silverleaf User Silverleaf sig.pngDon't assume, ask! 08:59, 14 October 2008 (UTC)

I tried to use the -repair option, but i'm not sure if i am doing it correctly, as it didn't take any extra time to start up. But i did put it in full screen mode, and then used the -windowed command and it put it back into a window, so... :|--72.70.63.108 18:30, 14 October 2008 (UTC)

Guild Tag

--Marisha 12:36, 14 October 2008 (UTC)Hello everyone.. I was wondering how to make different characters than the normal A-Z in the Guild Tag.

Hope you all can help.

Regards Kim // Marisha--Marisha 12:36, 14 October 2008 (UTC)

Using w:Character Map, and copy-paste is probably the easiest way. Biscuits User Biscuits sig.png 12:48, 14 October 2008 (UTC)
If you, like so many other people these days, are thinking of putting Chinese/Japanese/Korean characters in their guild tag, you will either need to copy-paste from somewhere as Biscuits said, or install the relevant keyboard settings on your computer. I'm not entirely sure why so many people are doing that lately, as then we end up with guild tags like "one ten one" [一十一], and "one ro one" [一ロ一], neither of which make much sense, but apparently "looking cool man!" takes precedence over coherance nowadays. ^<__<^ --Dragon nataku 15:09, 14 October 2008 (UTC)
Looking cool has always been more important than making sense :).--Fighterdoken 16:56, 14 October 2008 (UTC)
Discussing whether LDoA title is ridiculous or not would open up a huge can of wurms, so I'll just stick to saying that a tag that says [水好き] ("I like water") is less useful than a title that could contribute to something like God Walking title. (and yes, I actually saw that guild tag the other day. I was like, "Hey, that's great, I like water too! It allows me to continue living on this plane of existance.") ^x__x^;; (and arguing how useful the God Walking title is, is another can of wurms I'm not opening right now either) --Dragon nataku 01:20, 15 October 2008 (UTC)
No, no, my intention (as a LDoA myself) was to point that people not always does things because it's helpful for something else, or because it makes sense. "Just for the sake of it" is as good of a reason as any other actually, and even with latin characters i have also seen several guilds+tags that make no sense, but are still funny once you understand why people choose them.--Fighterdoken 17:11, 15 October 2008 (UTC)

Regarding Skill Packs in the Online Store

I was recently looking through the store and noticed the Skill Packs and was wondering about a few things.

If buying Campaign-specific Skill packs, do the skills become available in other campaigns?

Example: I own all campaigns and purchase the Factions Skill pack. I then create a character for use in the Nightfall campaign. Will the skills unlocked by the Factions Skill pack be available on my Nightfall character?

--203.94.134.26 02:05, 15 October 2008 (UTC)

If you buy the Factions Skill Pack, any Factions Skill Trainer will be able to teach your character those skills (you can't learn a Factions Skill from a Nightfall Skill Trainer).
So, as long as your Nightfall character has access to Factions Skill Trainer, he/she can learn those unlocked skills (answering your question: yes, it will). --NIN37 02:47, 15 October 2008 (UTC)

Awesome. Thanks for the info ^_^

--203.94.134.26 02:56, 15 October 2008 (UTC)

Just a little update: Skill Unlock Pack just "unlocks" those skill (making it usable by heroes and PvP-only characters. PvE characters will still need to "learn" those skill (either by purchasing it from a Skill Trainer or by using a Tome). --NIN37 03:00, 15 October 2008 (UTC)

How to defeat Joko's Domain

How can you defeat Joko's domain in Normal or Hard mode with all the bosedion flesh and the dune carvers using Vow of silence. Too many of them, and I can't do it. Can someone please help me. I am using a necron...anyone have any ideas??? Chief Necron --The preceding unsigned comment was added by User:24.121.96.68 (talk).

moved from Guild Wars Wiki:Admin noticeboard

Making it way too difficult in NORMAL mode to defeat and too many dune carvers using the vow of silence...how do we get passed them? And too many Obsedian Flesh and spell breakers! Making it impossible for spell casters to do anything in there! Please revise!

Thanks...Chief Necron --The preceding unsigned comment was added by User:24.121.96.68 (talk).

Err... try changing your party's builds. Anti-melee to reduce pressure from dune carvers, offensive power to take down the monks and paragons as fast as possible, spread out your party to avoid AoE damage, MM for minion body blocking, dazing the enemy casters, etc. -- ab.er.rant User Ab.er.rant Sig.png 07:25, 15 October 2008 (UTC)
