Charmable animal

Charmable animals are a type of creature that can be charmed by the ranger skill Charm Animal, then becoming an animal companion.

The majority of the animals are hostile, but passive. Once Charm Animal completes, the animal joins the party of the charmer.

Creatures that look like animals but can't be charmed are usually beasts.

Sometimes, the name overlay for hostile animals causes it to be applied to some other foe in the zone instead.

Pets can be unlocked through the Zaishen Menagerie.
Non-prestige pets can be unlocked through the Pet Unlock Pack.
There is one charmable animal that cannot be found anywhere else available to charm, and is only used by NPCs: Devourers that accompany charr during The Rise of the White Mantle and Charr-broiled Plans, Old Mac has a pet Devourer called Joe, after the Searing, for the Hungry Devourer quest.
Charmable animals normally drop nothing when they die, but during special events they can drop festive items.
