Starting off

I have paid for two Guildwar games, but cannot get started. But I have not been able to find an access key, either from trial offers, special events or promotions as suggested. Do I need CD's, which I have not got, to start things off ? If not what do I do ? Regards Gunnar

How did you purchase the game? I'm assuming via the playNC.com website, since you don't have CD's. If that's the case, log in to the PlayNC website with your account and go to 'manage'. You should get options there that will help. - Thulsey - talk 06:22, 16 July 2007 (UTC)

If you bought GW from playNC.com, you can login to PlayNC and go to manage or you may use your login name with @plaync or @ncsoft with your plaync account name. example 123log@plaync. Character Slots

No, there is a limit at, I think it was 24. That is, how many you can buy. You will still gain the character slots if you buy a new game and such. So, the maximum would be 4(first game)+2+3(nf preorder)+24 I think. That makes 33 slots in total, with 24 buyable. (It might be 23, or 25, but it's around there) - anja 09:30, 16 July 2007 (UTC)

have you tried /age ingame with your characters? The ones with 12 months or 24 months will have a birthday present spawned in their inventory if they have inventory space to spare. Double click the presents for the mini-pets.--Bane of Worlds (talk • contribs) 19:16, 16 July 2007 (UTC)

First of all, wiki users can't help you with this - you'll need to contact Guild Wars Support in regards to compromised accounts. Second of all, you may not want to put your email address on the wiki like this - it's up to you, but it's not necessary, since as my first sentenced already mentioned, the people on this wiki can't help you. bots

What is anet doing about the rampant influx of bots in the game? It seems like anet has lowered the drop rates throughout the game to alter the economy. Why not get rid of the bots? If you haven't seen them, go to Chahbek Village in Elona and see the masses of necs with funny names and no guild alliances. Or go to Granite Citadel in Tyria and see the Mo/Me. if its a mini pet - double click on it (in your inventory), however if you mean a Pet (melandru's stalker, phoenix, etc) then you must have Charm Animal equipped in your skill bar then go into any explorable area -- The Great Tomato 08:15, 17 July 2007 (UTC)

About Leveling up

I got 1 qestion,i was asking ppl about it buth everyone got their own answer.. So the qestion i was asking is wth happends after we reach lvl 20..My exp / Skill points grows buth do i get stronger, do i maby do more dmg ?... Coz i was planing to have only 1 character that i make as stronger as i can, buth when i heard that i dont get stornger i started to qestion my self is there a point of making my character stronger or not, or i should make a new 1 and start all over again..??

You will only gain more experience and skill points. There are other ways to make your character stronger (unlocking skills, item upgrades, etc) but levelling beyond 20 is not one of them. This is so that everyone is on the same playing-field, character-wise, at level 20. This is particularly important in PvP, but also important in PvE.

Dual Strike Quest Walkthrough

If you have any quests from the 2007 Dragon Festival still in your quest log those seem to fubar many Shing Jea Island quests. Try abandoning/completing any of those quests first. HeWhoIsPale 19:04, 17 July 2007 (UTC)

Professions...

Is there a way to 'unlearn' a profession? For example: My Ranger has the secondary profession of Mesmer. I have come to the decision that I'd like to be a Ranger/Necromancer instead. To change your secondary profession, you need to Ascend. After that, you can take one of the profession quests in Prophecies (in your case, The Necromancer's Path), or in Factions and Nightfall you can go to Senji or Zuwarah respectively, both requiring ascension in their respective campaigns. After you've ascended in a chapter, you'll be able to access a means of switching your secondary profession at will. Your primary profession, however, cannot change. For Prophecies, see the various "The _______'s Path" quests listed under the Crystal Desert quests heading. For Factions, you'll be able to talk to a [Profession Changer] NPC (Senji) in Senji's Corner. For Nightfall, a similar NPC is available in the Command Post outside of Sunspear Sanctuary. You can go to the Great Temple of Balthazar and talk to the profession changer, but you must be ascended. That counts for Prophecies characters too, but if you do the Prophecies quests (other campaign characters can do them, and also ascend in any campaign if they haven't before) you get free skills. :) - BeX 05:09, 18 July 2007 (UTC)

Sometimes pets get stuck -- used to happen to me at shrines all the time, but sometimes elsewhere. They didn't wander off, they're somewhere along the path; you have to decide if it's worth it for you to backtrack and pick them up or not. - Thulsey - talk 01:26, 18 July 2007 (UTC)

If it's not with you, it's somewhere you've been before. It won't wander of on it's own, but it can get stuck. SO just backtrack to where you've been earlier. If you've forgoten, follow the red dots on the minimap. (Default key 'u'). Backsword 15:58, 23 July 2007 (UTC)

Attribute points problem

I have a Rit character that I only have 185 attribute points. Now I know about the 2-15 point quests and i'm sure i did them. I have checked and rechecked for other quests and cannot find any. So I created a new necro character and made sure I had the 2-15 point quests and I got the points but now at level 19 i only have 170 points. What am I missing?

Still sounds like you didn't get the two 15 point quests. What chapter are these characters created in? Perhaps you are going for the 15 point quests in the wrong chapter or you accompanied someone else on theirs and your quest was not active? The quests for Factions are Lost Treasure from Raithen Nem in Ran Musu Gardens and An Unwelcome Guest from the Zunraa in Seitung Harbor. It's easy to miss An Unwelcome Guest, as the Zunraa in Seitung Harbor only appears when someone rings the bell at its shrine. -- Gordon Ecker 02:05, 18 July 2007 (UTC)

All these characters are from Factions. The two quests were Lost Treasure and An Unwelcome Guest. I just discovered the quest was not really done correctly as the leader of the party was a dervish. Unable to Complete a Mission

I was loading the mission for Minister Cho's Estate when GuildWars crashed. After I logged back in I found myself in the outpost of the estate without the quest in my mission log and upon returning to the quest-giver, I found myself unable to get it once more.

Mission, or quest? Missions do not show up in your Quest Log; in fact, they don't show up anywhere but the world map. If it is the mission, there's no one to speak to in Factions. In the party window is a button that says something along the lines of 'Start Mission'. If it is a quest in that area, can you give the name of the last quest you did so we can help get you back on track? - Thulsey - talk 01:44, 19 July 2007 (UTC)

Re-image perhaps? Some have dat files that are much larger than others and a fresh -image of the dat may reduce the overall size and access time for the game. Prophecies characters can travel between Tyria and Cantha after the complete the Mhenlo's Request quest, which is given by Firstwatch Sergio in Lion's Arch. Factions characters can travel between Tyria and Cantha after completing the Chaos in Kryta quest from Guardsman Chienpo in Kaineng Center. Prophecies characters typically reach Lion's Arch after completing the first six missions, although they don't need to complete any of them to reach Lion's Arch. The access key is probably behind a plastic strip covered with a silver-colored coating. The coating can be scratched off with a coin. LFG stands for "Looking For (a) Group", and is also sometimes used inaccurately in place of GLFM ("Group Looking For More"). It basically means the person is looking for other players to group with for a mission, quest, hunting, etc - Tanetris 20:46, 20 July 2007 (UTC)

In Australia wanting to join a US guild.

Hi. I recently talked to some guys in the US over the net and asked to join there guild. They were happy to do it but the problem is that I log onto the European Sever and I assume they log onto the US sever. Can I still join the guild? Do I have to change severs and if I do how do I go about it?

emptying backpack

You can only have one backpack, but you can get a belt pouch or a bag. If you want to get rid of some items you can sell them to merchants or destroy them or drop them on the ground. Just be careful not to get rid of something important, like a quest item or your armor. :P - BeX 09:49, 21 July 2007 (UTC)

There's also storage. In Factions it can be accessed as soon as you reach Shing Jea Monastary, and in Nightfall it can be accessed as soon as you reach Kamadan. In Prophecies, you won't be able to access storage until after you finish the prelude. -- Gordon Ecker 10:06, 21 July 2007 (UTC)

Either you router or your firewall is blocking the installer's access to the Internet. Can you access the internet from your web browser? If you can't, then there's a connection problem. It doesn't matter which order you do the campaigns in, or if you do all of them at all. You do however need one of them (any of the three) to use the upcoming expansion (Eye of the North). As a matter of preference, I would suggest you do Prophecies first. Because it's quite slow paced and more towards learning the game system and exploring everything, it's not really much fun to come back to play after playing something as fast paced as Factions (because once you get used to blazing through things, slower storylines can be annoying to repeat ;) ). Plus you'll get to enjoy the newbie area there and meet Gwen, which is fun, as well as get lots of free skill unlocks from quests, and explore a wider variety of landscapes. :) I'm sure other people will have different opinions from me on that though. You can invite someone into your group (or yourself into another's group) by one of the following methods:

• Select the player you want to invite and click "+" on the party window
• Type the name of the player you want to invite into the textfield on the party window and hit enter (or the "+")
• Type "/invite Playername" into the chat

Inventory shows up by clicking "I" or through the Menu (on the bottom left on the screen). And you can trade by selecting the player and clicking "trade". But I would recommend you to play the game instead of letting yourself rushed through the game. poke | talk 22:23, 24 July 2007 (UTC)

Agreed with poke. If you're just starting out the game (from your questions), why do you want runners? Runners speed you through the game by skipping fights and quickly getting on to the next point in the storyline. Markers and Energy Bars

Oh god please when are we going to get to see ally's,(maybe even foe's) energy bars in the party window and or target menu? I've been waiting for this addition to happen for years, especially after playing a bip necro. Yes I know I know you're supposed have 1hp and spam bip, but still...

I think this feature would be an AMAZING addition to the game, even more so for our Mesmer friends. Another thing I would like to see is some way to set "markers" on health/energy bars for the party window. Maybe at a certine percentage or a certine amount of health. i.e. Set a vertical marker on the bar at 50% health or more, and turn blue when the threshold has been passed(either over or under the marker, your choice).

For skills like,

• Zealous Benediction
• Word of Healing
• Light of Deliverance
• Aneurysm
• Lifebane Strike/ Shadow Strike
• Deathly Chill
• Final Thrust
• Brutal Strike
• "Never Give Up!"
• "Never Surrender!"

I understand this is a team game, but most team mates are less than willing to be.... cooperative >.> Unless of course if you're with a guild group. But honestly, how would you like to be able to run e-denail better on a mesmer and not waste your own energy when they are at 0 or very close to 0 energy. And people dont have to ping their heal for a monk to heal them. The monk simply stares at the party window and waits for a bar to drop. They could of course watch the battle and ...click... on the party member who needs health and then heal them, but even then they still get to see their health bar above their head.

On another note I would like to say that this is a feature that would energy denial a whole new game, thus making mesmers much, much more effective at that task. In finishing, I think it's just too much of a pain to call your energy while in combat, then the bip find that person on the party window and then bip them. So... in other words, you want to change the BiP necro into something like a healing monk in PvE? Just watch bars all day and try to have fun watching the colors go left and right? BiP (and other skills) have durations. And you can guess when your BiP will end. Talk to your team members and figure out what they're doing so you can gauge and prioritize who needs the most energy. In my opinion, Having to find out the energy and health levels of allies/enemies by pinging/guessing it makes the game more challengeing, and adds to the stratagy. Changing that is just like giving someone a +100 helath handicap in an FPS, where no one else has it (so to speak). No, you don't even need to own Prophecies, you just need at least one of the three campaigns. The exact requirements for travel to Eye of the North are currently unknown, but it is very likely that you only need to reach Lion's Arch, Kaineng Center or Consulate Docks, as is the case for travel between Prophecies, Factions and Nightfall. -- Gordon Ecker 08:03, 26 July 2007 (UTC)

Disconnects

I am trying to obtain: Defender of Ascalon "title" but the wonderful game server <--(sarcasm)keep disconecting me while online after 5 hours or so... WTF is the goddamn reason of why this is happening? If you're more than 10 hours completely idle, you do get kicked off for inactivity. If you're actually doing things, you get 24 hours. If you're getting kicked off after only 5 hours, then it's your internet connection, not the game, and you should be able to reconnect to get right back where you were, as long as it's within about 10 minutes. What do you mean by "stack"? If you're referring to Chapters, yes, you can have more than one chapter on an account. If you're referring to item upgrade components, then no, only one of each of the types a weapon will accept will stack. Video problems..

Ok i was toying with the video options and in the graphic options i have everything as high as i can get it but, there in the menu and the top there are 4 additional options. I clicked on the one about refresh or something like that and i went down to the 200khz or whatever and then my screen now says: out of range

                        UF:50hz - 150hz
                        Current frequency
                        fh:172.5khz fv:200hz

Basicly lower the resolution and leave refresh rate at default. If u cant get into the game at all try starting it with "-windowed" see Command_line - Biz 18:12, 29 July 2007 (UTC)

Current estimates (completely unofficial, from Upcoming changes and features) are 2009 or 2010. I doubt we'll hear anything more official until next year. As for the level cap, the devs have said it hasn't even been decided at this point, but two of the ideas they've been kicking around is a level 100 cap, and no cap at all. I didn't get a cd key

Are you certain you didn't get one? As I recall the key is printed on a card (similar to a credit card) with a silver scratch off surface where the key is printed. If this is not present then you should most certainly return the box to the retailer you purchased it from as it is incomplete. What probably happened is the game was already returned by an unscrupulous person who took the card out to get a free key, the retailer probably sold it again thinking it was complete. Most shops I know are very funny about games like guildwars. when I first bought guildwars from my local GAME store, they told me that I they would have nothing to do with any problems I may encounter. So even if there was a problem such as the key missing from the box. They would not have allowed me to take it back. Its simple, you take the skill Charm Animal And you use it on the bear. Bears in Pre-searing do have a skill that can break the charm while you are casting it though, so it may take a few trys.--Raph 21:57, 28 July 2007 (UTC)

It's not as simple as that. Charming pre-searing bears is only possible using two people - one to engage the bear, and the other to charm it from the edge of the aggro bubble. The closest skills I can think of are Thrill of Victory, Chilling Victory and Victorious Sweep, which are attack skills which have additional effects if the target has less Health than you, and Final Thrust, which is an attack skill which deals additional damage if the target is below 50% Health.

How to ferry guild members to la or kc?

In raisu palace, i made it all the way to the room with the emporer. I killed everything in the room, and approaced emperor. The Frost Gate. You have to go left in the cave with the Dryders and get the dwarf, and then lead him to a catapult that is down a side path after the cave (if he dies the bonus will fail). Once he gets to the catapult he explodes a door and you follow that path to get a book, take the book back to him and it's done. - BeX 12:50, 30 July 2007 (UTC)

Bonus items

Have added bonus item key (included with GW Prophecies) but am unable to see any items. I am using an existing character in NF, have typed in chat, "/bonusitems". Get a message of various items now being available, but, when I go into "I", no bonus items are seen. Am I missing something? Do I need to travel to Prophecies and redo "/bonusitems" from there? You only have a fixed number of email addresses you use right? Just install the game client and try every single combination of all your email addresses and all your possible passwords.
