Improper grammer, should be (...anyone struck by its attacks are...) or (...its attack is...) Rappy 00:46, 19 January 2008 (UTC)
Izzy taking a look at this. Bobby Stein 23:12, 21 February 2008 (UTC)
No, the grammar was correct. The noun for "is" is "anyone," which is a singular pronoun. The word "attacks" is part of a prepositional phrase modifying the participle "struck" and therefore its plurality is irrelevant. Zerin 22:54, 16 March 2008 (UTC)

Yes Skill: Vampiric Swarm

Error: The concise description labels this as a projectile; it is not a projectile as it cannot miss.
Should be: Try calling it a non-projectile spell.
Additional info: None
MiraLantis 00:20, 18 March 2008 (UTC)

I spoke with the writers about this, and apparently this was a design decision based on the fact that it takes a while for the delayed effect to get to the target before it takes effect. Thus it was decided that these skills would be called "slow projectiles", which differ from projectiles in that they cannot miss. --Chelsea Kibler 19:41, 26 March 2008 (UTC)
Then the Deathly Swarm concise description needs to be updated to use "slow projectile" - currently it uses the traditional method of describing the skill behaviour. --Aspectacle 00:26, 31 March 2008 (UTC)

Yes Skill: "You Move Like A Dwarf!"

Error: The description in normal and concise mode states that the crippled is applied when the foe gets up.
Should be: Should just say "crippled for X seconds"
Additional info: The crippled is applied when you use the skill, not when they get up.

Additional info: Both the duration and location of the grey text seem inconsistent against other skill descriptions.

This issue has been resolved. --Andrew Patrick 19:59, 9 April 2008 (UTC)
This one hasn't been resolved in game. Duration and gray text are still in inconsistent locations. Tedium 23:16, 9 April 2008 (UTC)

Yes Skill: Burning Speed

Error: Concise Description gives no duration as well as gives a variant for the self-burning time.

Should be: Let me look into the dark.... I see a great beast, a great cat...a lion. This lion hungers. He is devouring...the forest...the entire forest.... Nay, the entire world! A host of gleaming angels...no not angels but birds...carrion birds...bright and terrible as the sun accompany this lion. All falls before his hunger until naught is left but bitter ashes. That is all I see.
Additional info: In most in-game text, ellipses at the end of sentences are followed by a fourth period and a space, here, there are spaces but no fourth periods.

Tweaked this text on the dev server and trimmed out a few unnecessary ellipses. Will show on the live server in the coming weeks. Bobby Stein 23:49, 12 May 2008 (UTC)

Yes NPC: Norgu

Yes Skill: Blurred Vision

Error: Hex Spell. Also hexes foes NEAR target (xxx seconds). They have a 50% chance to miss. Should be: Hex Spell. Also hexes foes ADJACENT TO target (xxx seconds). They have a 50% chance to miss.

This issue has been reported to Bobby Stein. Ben Kirsch 20:46, 7 July 2008 (UTC)

Yes Burning Speed

The concise description reads: You move XX% faster. You suffer from Burning (X seconds). End effect: inflicts burning condition (X seconds) on adjacent foes.
It should say: You move XX% faster (5 seconds). You suffer from Burning (5 seconds). End effect: inflicts burning condition (X seconds) on adjacent foes.
It currently doesn't show how long the speed boost lasts, and the burning duration is incorrect; it scales when it should be set to 5 seconds. --Macros 20:35, 17 April 2008 (UTC)

If you look up, this issue was posted about 3 weeks ago... --Timeoffire45 17:15, 20 April 2008 (UTC)
And it only got fixed after my post. Though, it's still not entirely fixed; the duration of the enchantment still isn't listed. --Macros 06:14, 21 April 2008 (UTC)
A bug has been submitted to Bobby Stein requesting that a duration be added for the enchantment. Ben Kirsch 23:24, 7 July 2008 (UTC)

No Quest: Hog Hunt

Error: During the quest dialoge before you can accept the quest from Nehdukah, Beastmaster Yapono says:"I know this part of the story well. She lost her precious eggs, isn't that right Nehdukah? All lies I tell you, Nehdukah is no hunter." Should be: "I know this part of the story well. He lost his precious eggs, isn't that right Nehdukah? All lies I tell you, Nehdukah is no hunter." Additional info: Nehdukah is a male NPC, not a female one.

It's not a typo. "She" who has lost her eggs is Zho. BlazeRick 12:06, 14 June 2008 (UTC)
IMO "she" clearly refers to "Nehdukah", here's the entire pre-quest dialogue:
Nehdukah: "Listen closely, Yapono, for I am about to tell you my famous tale. There I was walking through the Echovald Forest, when suddenly I found myself face-to-face with a Black Moa bird protecting her clutch of eggs...."
Beastmaster Yapono: "Nehdukah's telling the Black Moa story again...doesn't he know that we all think he's a fake?"
Nehdukah: "It was the most amazing creature I had ever seen...a Black Moa as dark as the nighttime ocean. Behind her was a nest full of eggs...."
Nehdukah: "While I was in the bushes, another hunter emerged from the forest. I can only assume she, too, was in search of this mystical creature."
Nehdukah: "But this Black Moa was canny. It heard her coming and yet didn't move a muscle! She approached, and out of nowhere the beast attacked her and knocked her to the forest floor."
Nehdukah: "Of course, at this point, I had to act quickly. I ran out to save the other hunter, despite the danger to myself. Sadly, I was one heartbeat too late. The cruel bird got in one more vicious peck...."
Nehdukah: "And it pecked one of her eyes right out of her skull. Terrible! I will have nightmares of the horrible sight for years to come. She was so grateful to have survived that she gave me two of the eggs from the nest."
Chitundu: "Tore out her eye? I bet she didn't see that coming. Ha! I mean, that's terrible. Where are these eggs now?"
Beastmaster Yapono: "I know this part of the story well. She lost her precious eggs, isn't that right, Nehdukah? All lies I tell you. Nehdukah is no hunter!"
Nehdukah: "I am a mighty hunter, Yapono, you'll see. I will go and bring back an impressive pet to prove it. You'll see!"
Beastmaster Yapono: "Don't hurt yourself trying, Nehdukah. Pets are for real hunters, not for tale-tellers like you."
Zho gave Nehdukah the eggs, Nehdukah somehow lost them. Either the dialogue is supposed to be "he lost his precious eggs" or Nehdukah is supposed to be female but was accidentally given a male model. I suspect the latter, as "-a" and "-ah" are common endings for european and middle eastern feminine names, and another NPC in Istan, Kushau, was accidentally given a female model. -- Gordon Ecker 00:18, 15 June 2008 (UTC)
Ah, I see. Chitundu's words before the sentence in question did it. BlazeRick 15:38, 16 June 2008 (UTC)
Nehdukah is supposed to be male. By the way, I believe this name is based on the North African "Nduka." In regards to the use of "she" in this statement, I don't think this is supposed to be "he" either because it is unusual in English to speak to someone about themselves in third person. Since the only 2 other characters in the story are female, it follows that Yapano was speaking of one of them. I've always taken this as Yapano saying "Yeah yeah. The black moa lost her eggs. That's nice, but I still think you're lying." Btw, the original author is no longer at ArenaNet, so I can't confirm his original intentions. Since there are ways to interpret this statement that make the gender pronoun correct, we'll just give him the benefit of the doubt and leave it as is. Thanks! -Kim Chase 21:25, 25 July 2008 (UTC)
I still think the statement refers to Nehdukah, here are the relevant lines (including the initial dialogue for Hog Hunt, which I omitted earlier), with my commentary:
  • Nehdukah: "And it pecked one of her eyes right out of her skull. Terrible! I will have nightmares of the horrible sight for years to come. She was so grateful to have survived that she gave me two of the eggs from the nest." ⇐ Zho gave Nehdukah two eggs.
  • Chitundu: "Tore out her eye? I bet she didn't see that coming. Ha! I mean, that's terrible. Where are these eggs now?" ⇐ Chitundu asks Nehdukah what happened to those two eggs.
  • Beastmaster Yapono: "I know this part of the story well. She lost her precious eggs, isn't that right, Nehdukah? All lies I tell you. Nehdukah is no hunter!" ⇐ In response to Chitundu's question about what happened to Nehdukah's eggs, Yapono finishes the story, telling Chitundu that someone lost her eggs, then asks Nehdukah to confirm that's how the story ends, then tells Chitundu that the story's a lie and Nehdukah's no hunter. If "she" refers to anyone other than Nehdukah, the ending would fail to answer Chitundu's question.
  • ...
  • Nehdukah (initial quest dialogue for Hog Hunt) :"I found out that the horrible tales of the Black Moa bird are true. They are vicious little buggers that kill most of their pursuers, so there are very few who can tell the tale. I have even learned the secrets of hatching and raising Black Moas and yet everyone laughs at me! I cannot find a Black Moa let alone a Black Moa egg, but perhaps I could tame an impressive warthog and show these Istani that I am a hunter to be reckoned with." ⇐ Nehdukah claims to be unable to find a black moa or a black moa egg, supporting the "she" = Nehdukah interpretation of Yapano's quote.
I'm marking this with a white X like the ones used on ArenaNet talk:AI bugs to mark things which are not considered issues but are still under discussion. -- Gordon Ecker 05:15, 26 July 2008 (UTC)
I've been so tied up with GW2 development that I haven't had a spare moment to revisit this issue, among others. Fortunately, we've just completed a few niggling projects so I should have some time next week to look into some of these lingering bugs. Thanks for your patience. Flourish can recharge it, so it's technically an attack skill. -- Gordon Ecker 08:07, 24 August 2008 (UTC)
This is actually coded as a melee attack skill with some unique characteristics. It's an unblockable melee attack at touch range. So, the enemy actually has to touch their target to cause the effect, but it's not a touch skill. The description is accurate as is. Good catch, though. Thanks! David Wilson 19:19, 3 June 2009 (UTC)

--NIN37 20:31, 27 September 2008 (UTC)

It's probably intentional. According to the zone descriptions for Vizunah Square (Foreign Quarter) and Vizunah Square (Local Quarter) "Once home to the famous assassin Vizu, inhabitants of this neighborhood successfully petitioned the Celestial Ministry in the year 1396 to rename it in honor of the woman who had helped bring down Shiro the Betrayer.". Shiro wouldn't necessarily know about the renaming, and even if he did, he'd probably prefer the old name. -- Gordon Ecker 03:07, 28 September 2008 (UTC)
This choice of name was intentional. Shiro didn't take the time to brush up on events after his death, so this was put in to add a bit of flavor to his text. David Wilson 22:37, 3 June 2009 (UTC)

No Object: Jade Quarry

Error: Yellow quarry, Green quarry, and Purple quarry
Should be: Those are proper nouns so "quarry" should be capitalized as in Yellow Quarry
Additional info: See the [screenshot]

Based on the structure of the sentences and notations, it seems fine to have "quarry" lowercased, as Yellow, Purple, and Green are all area designations within the larger quarry, Jade Quarry. They are subquarries, if you will. Those aren't really their proper names. Thanks for bringing it up! David Wilson 23:59, 4 June 2009 (UTC)
Mmmm well if you say so. It doesn't sit right with me - seems it should be "purple quarry" or "Purple Quarry." My reasoning is that colors are generally not capitalized unless it's being used as part of a proper noun phrasing. But in the end it doesnt affect the gameplay and if you folks are happy with it, ok :) – User Barinthus Magical Compass.png Barinthus 12:36, 5 June 2009 (UTC)
I understand your point, and I'm glad you took the time to explain it. I'm afraid this is due to your display size. It's just small enough to bump the last ellipsis point down to the next line. As the text is displayed dynamically based on your resolution and the ellipsis points aren't connected as a word might be, there's really no solution for this other than to increase or decrease your resolution. Thanks for bringing it to our attention, though! David Wilson 21:53, 21 July 2009 (UTC)

No Dialogue: Helena "Jingle Bear" entry is not capitalized

Error: When listing the pets you have unlocked in the Menagerie, "Jingle Bear" shows up as "jingle bear".

This is OK as is. The term jingle bear is lowercased in this list because it is not a proper name. They're just a species of special bears that jingle. :) Thanks for posting! David Wilson 23:01, 4 June 2009 (UTC)

Not exclusive to Thunderhead Keep, the name glitch rarely occurs in many zones with animals, however the location and screenshot might help to pinpoint the bug. -- User Gordon Ecker sig.png Gordon Ecker (talk) 22:30, 26 April 2009 (UTC)
This is a known issue, but thanks for bringing it up! David Wilson 23:21, 21 July 2009 (UTC)

No Item: Customized items for renamed characters

Error: Customized for <old character name>
Should be: Customized for <new character name>
Additional info: This bug occurs on characters who have been renamed. The old customization label remains, though the character is still able to use the items.

This won't be changed, I'm afraid. It has to do with the way items are tracked in the game. Thanks for posting! David Wilson 23:16, 4 June 2009 (UTC)

Yes Quest: BauBao Wavewrath (Zaishen quest)

Yes Dialogue: Warmaster Grast

Well, this one's been around for a while, hasn't it? The bug's been submitted, thanks! David Wilson 17:38, 21 July 2009 (UTC)

Reported Storybook: Young Heroes of Tyria

Error: Says, on page 11, "...to join the elite Order of the Sunspears, the defenders of the three Elonan provinces..."
Should be: "...to join the elite Order of the Sunspears, the defenders of the three Elonian provinces..."
Additional info: This is the only place ingame - that I can find - that refers to anything pertaining to Elona as "Elonan." Everything else is "Elonian," so, while both could be correct, I'm guessing that the "Elonan" spelling is a typo.
