Gwen is a bright, inquisitive 10 year-old girl. She is first encountered by new characters in Prophecies just outside the main archway to Ascalon City. Gwen likes to play, pick flowers, and follow adventurers around the countryside, all the while telling stories about her family and various characters of importance.

"You look really strong. Can you teach me anything?"

[edit] Profession Trainer

Warrior "Van is so big and strong! He reminds me of my daddy...strong and brave and handsome. Sigh. I miss my daddy."

    • If you exit from any area where she doesn't appear, she will still be waiting for you just outside.
    • If you map-Travel or zone to another outpost except Ascalon City she will still follow you once you exit the oupost.
    • If you completely Log Out while Gwen is following you, and returned to any outpost other than Ascalon City when you log back in later, when you leave the outpost Gwen will still be following you.
    • If you set her to "wait here" then enter an outpost, she will be gone when you come back out.
  • Gwen and her survival was an extremely popular point of discussion between players.
  • In-game screenshots show that she has the hands as a Mesmer.
  • Her comment, "Mr. & Mrs. Hathorn have children, but they're too young to play with me. Sometimes Mrs. Hathorn let's me hold the baby. He's so cute!" refers to Fadden Hathorn, who is a part of the quest The Egg Hunter.

[edit] Trivia

Gwen was first encountered by the player as a small girl in 1070 AE, just before the Searing. She ventured across the river, and if the player is a Monk, it is up to them to go and fetch her back. In another quest, the player must go and fetch her Broken Flute from across the river. If the player gave her a Small Girl's Cape, a Flute, and 5 Red Iris Flowers then she would give them a Tapestry Shred as a gift. This item will later find use in Guild Wars: Eye of the North. Gwen is shown in the final cinematic of pre-searing Ascalon. In addition, once she has been given the flute, if the player has allowed her to follow him/her, then Gwen will also attempt to heal the player or any of the player's allies if health drops below about 75%; she doesn't heal a lot of health (+20), but early on this can be a big help for anyone that is quite new to the game.
For a long time, Gwen was thought to have been killed by either the searing or the Charr. However, evidence to the contrary has emerged over the course of time between then and 1075 AE (present day as of Nightfall). In Old Ascalon, Gwen's Broken Flute can be found, and up until recently, a Tattered Girl's Cape used to spawn in the Stingray Strand, all the way over in Kryta. Also, in Elona, on the Barbarous Shore, there is a chest that contains a Preserved Red Iris Flower. Furthermore, Gwen's mother, Sarah, who is dead and now in the Underworld, cannot seem to find Gwen anywhere, more evidence that Gwen survived.
Gwen was eventually proven to be alive with the emergence of a trailer for Guild Wars Eye of the North. She narrates the trailer, explaining that after the Searing, she fled to the Far Shiverpeaks, where she encountered strange new lands and allies. At the end of the trailer, a much older Gwen is shown stepping in line with a group of Ebon Vanguard soldiers and saluting.
  • "Gwen-chan" and "Dr. Boar" have a tutorial section on the official Japanese site.
  • To end one of the beta weekend events, Gwen appeared and used Spontaneous Combustion to wipe out the player population. Developers often use similar devices to end events, and as far as lore is concerned, it is not considered canonical.
  • It has been confirmed that Guild Wars Eye of the North's GW:EN acronym is an intentional allusion to Gwen.
