Oink!
So, I don't know if anyone else remembers this or not, but Oink was a "quest" of sorts during the Prophecies betas. It wasn't a named quest (kinda like the rounding up the hogs thing now in pre-searing), but if you killed a hydra blocking the way (I think they were called hydra, although in the betas they were stationary plant monsters with one giant eyeball, not multi-headed evil fiery lizard-things of uber-DOOM), Oink was there if you kept going a bit after the hydra-plant. He would then start following you, and if you reached the city and talked to some kid there (can't remember if his name was Cheswick back then as well), he'd thank you for finding his pig and give you 1,000 EXP.
Soooooooo... my question is if this is worth noting somewhere on Oink's page, possibly under Trivia. Something like "In the Prophecies betas, Oink was part of a nameless quest with a 1,000 EXP reward" or something maybe. If not, then just ignore this old-timer's rambling. :op --Dragon nataku 04:59, 30 September 2008 (UTC)
- I think (but others might disagree) that documenting the history of guild wars is just as honorable a goal as documenting the present. More information would be needed though, imho. — Why 06:44, 30 September 2008 (UTC)
- Yeah, I figured as much, but unfortunately I don't have any screenshots from back then. ^>__o^;; I only remember cause it made my ex mad (he introduced me to GWs in Jan 2005) cause he didn't think to explore around so he didn't get the EXP. :op --Dragon nataku 13:37, 30 September 2008 (UTC)

login issue
When I login and then navigate to different page I am logged out and taken back to IP#. Looks like I'm logged in as long as I stay on the login page but will not maintain login credentials. It happens everytime I login. Tried to login to post this question. Does this have something to do with how I'm connecting to the internet? --69.19.14.22 23:49, 3 October 2008 (UTC) Maia
- Sounds like a cookies issue to me. AFAIK the wiki uses cookies to maintain your logged in state. You need to make sure the wiki's cookies aren't being blocked by anything (mostly likely your browser).- TheRave (talk) 23:50, 3 October 2008 (UTC)
- Thanks for response - Should have told you I had checked cookies and turned off firewall also have internet security setting at medium so not sure what else would block cookies. Also went in privacy/sites and specifically allowed cookies for http://wiki.guildwars.com. I've only had this computer a few weeks and have not worked on this operating system before. Using IE 7 also computer came with Norton which may have some setting I need to change. Maia
- Currently typing this in IE7 w/norton and firewall on. You loggining into www.wiki.guildwars.com or the regular wiki.guildwars.com? The cookies can't see each other so that could be the issue. Dominator Matrix 01:12, 4 October 2008 (UTC)
- Ok just put guildwars.com domain seemed to work for about 2 pages then bumped me out again. Maia

- Tried clearing your browser cache?
- Tools... > General Options > General > Delete Files...
- If you visit a page while not logged and revisit it later, your browser could show you the cached version of the page.
- (Well, I don't have Norton and I don't use IE7, so I can't really help you here, sorry). --NIN37 01:50, 4 October 2008 (UTC)

user profile pages
ok so a bud of mine inagme said it was ok for me to use his user page layout. BUT, i stumbled across a problem and i can't get the nav bars to direct to something else without completely disappearing. to find out what i am talking about just go to my page and click on one of the icons at the top. all of them redirect to his page and i can't find out how to change it. any and all help is much appreciated. tyvm.
http://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/User:Uchiha_Lena <--my page
http://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/User:NoXiFy <--his page
edit: see how it says his character's names? well, i can't get that to go away and change them to MY character's name and create a blank page. everytime i change the "NoXiFy/navbar" line to "Uchiha_Lena/navbar" it just goes away and the page turns to crap. :( --Uchiha Lena 17:27, 5 October 2008 (UTC)
- You needed to copy over the code for the nav bar as a separate page. I have done that here. Now you need to go in and edit that for your own character pages. -- Wyn 17:31, 5 October 2008 (UTC)

I notice that a page in the "Salvage items" section is "missing" (or has never been created) for the "Amphibian Armor" gear. How do i put a microsoft word document on a GW2 suggestion page?--The preceding unsigned comment was added by User:24.34.250.166 (talk).
- Short: can't. Long: you would need to upload it somewhere else and post a link, but using external aplications for making suggestions just makes them harder to be reached and commented. If your suggestion is too long for the Anet namespace, you could try creating it on your own userspace (you would need to register first, though).--Fighterdoken 22:08, 6 October 2008 (UTC)
Ok I need help with my Sig picture please
I had asked before and thought I had the solution but apparetly not.. I had my picture up right size and everything but I guess it was removed for mis naming thats fine.. Now how in the world do I get it back on? Ive tried several times again and not sure exactly what its suppose to look like (namewise) as its still not up again.. am I allowed to use the same pic that was denied or do I have to get a new one?
I guess just tell me what to click on when im on the picture adding page thanks in advance guys --O Frost O File:User-O Frost O Sig.GIF 20:19, 7 October 2008 (UTC)

redirects for 2+ word skill names/skill names with punctuation
Hi everyone, I checked through the policies and guidelines sections and didn't see anything, so I thought I'd post this question here. If I've missed the answer to this, I apologize! Anyway, I was wondering what the wiki community's stance is on creating redirects for skills with more than 2 words in the skill name. Since skills get named exactly as they appear in-game, including capitalization and punctuation, searches are thrown off a bit. Some skill pages have redirects; for example, if you enter the search "go for the eyes" you are redirected to "Go for the Eyes!". However, if you search for "a touch of guile", you see a search results page with A Touch of Guile as the top result. It seems to me that this should be consistent, and I wonder which is correct. Should I be adding a redirect for "a touch of guile", or removing the redirect for "go for the eyes"? Thanks! --Belker 02:35, 11 October 2008 (UTC)
- I believe the former is the precedent; creating the redirect is something that probably should have been done a while ago. We don't need redirects for every possible misspelling of the skill name, but something as simple as forgetting the quotation marks on the shouts is worth the redirect (as is the capitalization, I suppose). -- Jïörüjï Ðērākō.>.cнаt^ 06:12, 11 October 2008 (UTC)
- Someone said somewhere that a redirect uses less bandwidth than the search for the same title. So yes, create as many redirects as you like. poke | talk 12:27, 11 October 2008 (UTC)
- Sounds good, thanks for the response! I also just noticed that apparently there's already a set of categories for these redirects, namely capitilization and omitted punctuation. I'll start creating them as I find them. --Belker 19:39, 11 October 2008 (UTC)
- Yeah, with pages where all words begin with capital letters (i.e. Dwarven Battle Stance) no redirect is needed, but if there is a word in it that starts with a lowercase letter (i.e. Peace and Harmony, Contemplation of Purity, Blood is Power) then that's actually what breaks it. Then, obviously, shouts need up to 2 redirects - one for omitting quotes and, in some cases, one for omitting all punctuation (that is, go for the eyes! and go for the eyes would redirect to "Go for the Eyes!") --orith is so fail 03:25, 17 October 2008 (UTC)

- (Edit conflict) To use/post pictures you need to upload them. Have a look at GWW:IMAGE for information on how to use and name your pictures. For example any pictures for your userspace must be named "Image:User yourname imagedescription.jpg" (e.g. File:User XXx dark inuyasha xXx my picture.jpg). Its best to create the link first then click on the red text and upload the picture.
- As for signatures you need to change the information in your preferences. Its best to check the "raw signatures box", but if you do you must remember to add the links manually to your sig. (my sig for example is:
- <small>TheRave (talk)</small>
) - You may also want to wait a couple of hours for people to see your question. Not everyone is online all the time.- TheRave (talk) 10:21, 16 October 2008 (UTC)

Creating a new article...
I was planning on creating an article for the Drok's Run vanquish, and I was wondering if there is a specific template that I should follow. I'm focusing more on letting people know where the best place to start is, what the vanquish involves, how long it will take, etc... I've looked at some of the templates already, but none of them seem to fit. Thanks :) --tero 19:49, 17 October 2008 (UTC)
- It seems to me that this type of information would fit best into the Notes section of an existing page, or existing pages. You might try adding your tips to the Notes section on Lornar's Pass, Dreadnought's Drift, Talus Chute and Snake Dance individually, or Southern Shiverpeaks, Running, or Vanquish for more generic tips. --orith is so fail 20:42, 18 October 2008 (UTC)

- This was debated fairly extensively in the past when the clock was first implemented, and it was decided that even though ArenaNet posts events in PST/PDT, the wiki would stay with UTC since we are catering to a global community. Thus the clock defaults to UTC, and any user who would like to change it has that opportunity for themselves. All Event pages should have schedules posted in PST as per ArenaNet's announcements, but also have it translated to UTC. -- Wyn 22:31, 18 October 2008 (UTC)
- Rather confusing to a Global community and inconsistent with guild wars time as mentioned in the logon screen. To many different time stamps/zones mentioned is inconsistent & confusing imho. - Most weekend events don't have their own page, and
I agree it would not hurt to addthe UTC (GMT=UTC) times are in the event description on the Weekend events page, however, all major events (I'm assuming Halloween is what is bringing this conversation back since it seems to always come up for the major events) that have their own pages do have both PST and UTC listed.-- Wyn 22:39, 18 October 2008 (UTC)- As far as i'm aware the wiki only ever gives 2 times for events. (Reset indent) I'll keep my opinion, you'll keep yours. Fine by me. --Silverleaf Don't assume, ask! 22:46, 18 October 2008 (UTC)
- Hi. IMHO, adding more non-vital info can make stuff more confusing rather than clarifying it.
- Right, not everyone find it easy to calculate timezones (some people can't even deal with a 24-hour clock over a 2x 12-hour), but adding one extra timezone could lead to some sort of "if we are going to add one extra time zone, why not add them all?" kind of discussion. So articles could look unnecessarily cluttered with so much useless info.
- Just my two cents. I'm alright with the way GWW is right now.
- Also, since I don't live in the USA nor in Europe and English isn't my native language, GMT-7, GMT-8, GMT+0 and so one make so much more sense for me than PDT, PTS and UTC. :P --NIN37 14:58, 19 October 2008 (UTC)

- The reason for the revert was probably because the claim is unverified. To put it simply, to change a claim that has been on the page for a long time to the complete opposite, you need proof. If you were to, for example, take a picture of the process you mentioned and then post it on the talk page for Pongmei Valley, your fellow editors might be more inclined to believe that it is possible. Also, registering for an account as it appears you have tends to help. When editors can contact you easily, they are less likely to just revert and ignore your claims. By the way, you might want to take a look at GWW:1RV, one of the rules of this Wiki. I realize you probably didn't know, but if you make a revert and it gets reverted itself, you cannot re-revert it without a thorough discussion on the talk page. It's against the rules. Thanks. :) --orith is so fail 21:14, 19 October 2008 (UTC)
- If you actually look at the page and it's history, it's a rather strange situation; funnily enough, the majority of the reversions there were 70.247 reverting other users, who were not actually removing the note, but fixing the horrible spelling. The note is actually right there on the article; nobody's removed it. The spelling and grammar have been fixed, instead.
- It was disputed for a while, for about three hours it seems, actually.
And that dispute ended three hours before you posted here, 70.247.I don't see what it is you're complaining about; the note you wanted is in the article. Unless you really wanted it to keep the original spelling errors for some reason? >.< - And yes, like Vorith has pointed out, we have a policy against the "edit wars" you got involved with on the page. Might I suggest reading other user's edits before you undo them, rather then assuming they're removing your content... -- Jïörüjï Ðērākō.>.cнаt^ 21:22, 19 October 2008 (UTC)

Login Information
My computer was destroyed in a flood about 4 months ago and I am now back and wanting to get on my wiki account. The user name is Knightly Bird, but no passwords that I know work and I can't get an e-mail password because I guess I never set one (email)... How can I find out my information, maybe if I prove I am me through IP addresses as I should still have the same IP? --208.126.21.113 02:02, 21 October 2008 (UTC)
- You're out of luck, as far as I know, unless you keep guessing your password until you get it right. IP's can be dynamic and we don't have CheckUser or some other IP-verification software installed on the wiki, so any sort of IP cross-checking is out of the question. Sorry. calor (talk) 02:42, 21 October 2008 (UTC)
How far...
How far can one push their talk pages and such in kilobyte size. The warning says people have problems at 32kb but I personally, on a six year old computer, begin loading slow at over 200kb. Is there a RULE we HAVE to archive at 32kb or can we stretch it a little?-- anguard 22:58, 23 October 2008 (UTC)
- GWW:USER could be invoked, since excess of content could count as "formatting that makes it difficult for other users to leave you messages", but there is not a specific rule about it. Either way, i have seen problems starting when the text-only content of pages goes over 150kb, but there is not a set limit for saying "after this, it wont work".
- To answer the question (since i didn't XD) we usually stretch it anyways. As long as people can still use your talk page, there is no problem.--Fighterdoken 23:04, 23 October 2008 (UTC)
- (Edit conflict) The 32kb notice is just the default notice that comes up on pages which exceed that size. Some use that as a general guideline, but our userpage policy isn't specific - "archive older comments as your talk page gets longer". So there isn't a specific rule on it, but there's some degree of common sense and interpretation involved to decide how long "long" is. -- Brains12 \ talk 23:09, 23 October 2008 (UTC)

Missing Pages having links to non-existent account names
There are a handful of titles on the Missing Pages page that, when you follow what links to them, you will find are actually user names of former users (or people that attempted to claim being user without actually having an account). Either way, it would clean up the missing pages if I (or anyone, for that matter) could adjust the link to say "User:name" rather than just "name". Some of the names that this occurs for include Yozuk, Joe mama xzy, and Freelance Acolyte. Would it be okay to make that change even though it means editing a discussion page? Mohnzh say what? 20:01, 27 October 2008 (UTC)
- In those particular cases (users linking to names that aren't even registered accounts), I'd say it would be better to simply de-link them. Editing the discussion pages isn't a big deal, I don't think, since you're not actually changing their comments, only fixing coding issues. -- Jïörüjï Ðērākō.>.cнаt^ 20:38, 27 October 2008 (UTC)
- A lot of that comes from the Guild namespace where people try to create links for guild members who aren't registered, or don't use character names when they do. I agree that those links should simply be removed, and I do when I find them. Is there a Missing pages project? Looking at that list, maybe we should create one. - I've fixed a lot of the bad user name links (frequently just left out the "User:" part in their sig), but now I have another suggestion. A lot of the links in the missing pages list are guilds. Can someone recode that page to exclude the Guild and Image namespaces? User namespace is excluded, why not these? The red guild links usually come from alliance nav-boxes that have guilds that never had a page, or had pages that have since been deleted. And in regards to images, we already have a place for missing images. Mohnzh say what? 22:05, 28 October 2008 (UTC)

UTC clock not really UTC'ing?
Is the clock based on a server-side setting, or is related to the pc settings? At the time of this message, it shows 07:52 UTC, but the oficial hour site on my country shows that we are actually on 06:52 UTC...
(added) And yes, as the signature shows, the time on the server appears to be right, and my offset is on 0...
Ok, let me rephrase that because not even i understand what i am asking: Has anyone any clue as to why the clock is showing for me the UTC time as one hour ahead of the server time? The offset on my settings is at zero, but the clock still shows, by example, 08:57 UTC even though this message was last edited at 07:57 (UTC) --Fighterdoken 06:56, 31 October 2008 (UTC)
- Hm. The clock uses your computer time and calculates the UTC time from it. Could it be that you just changed your clock instead of removing DST (or maybe you have the wrong timezone selected)? poke | talk 08:19, 31 October 2008 (UTC)

- Based on your other edits, you seem to be trying to add your guild to Category:PvE guilds. Guild pages are not automatically generated, they need to be manually created, and categories are added with the appropriate category tag or template. For example, once your guild page is created, it could be added to the PvE guilds category by adding somewhere on the page (category tags are generally placed at the bottom of pages for consistancy and ease of editing). Adding a link to the Main Page
Hi,
I'm not sure how to add contents to the Main Page, and I'm not sure if it is something that users can edit. So I wanted to ask and see if one of the Wiki administrators could add a link in the PVE section on the main page. Since the game update that added more handbooks I feel it would be very useful to add a link to all the storybooks from the main Wiki page.
http://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/Storybook
I feel this would help users be able to get right to the storybooks for mission help.
If a quick link to the above address could be added to the Wiki main page under the PVE section it would be greatly appreciated.

I mean, Guildwars Guru has it but you have to pay a ridiculous fee for a descent gold membership. Well thanks --96.225.202.13 22:07, 29 November 2008 (UTC)
- No, this is a wiki (encyclopedia), not a forum, if you are looking for a forum/auction house, check out the Fansites list. There are several there that might meet your needs. Also, none of the services on guru require a fee to use, only if you don't want to see the ads. -- Wyn 23:10, 29 November 2008 (UTC)
Eh, i just checked, and it is for the lowest, 2.5$ per month... >=( --The preceding unsigned comment was added by User:96.225.202.13 (talk).
- For what? You don't have to pay anything to use the forums or auction on GuildWars Guru unless you wish to avoid the advertising. I'm the Auction Administrator, I promise you my information is correct. -- Wyn 08:09, 30 November 2008 (UTC)

Use of "for" in templates?
I think I saw something specific to the GuildWars wiki about "for" in templates, but it could have been in one of the other editing guides. I did find "#for" in the "loops" (or something like it) extension but I have yet to find a list of extensions that this wiki has installed. (I haven't figured out where to look.)
So, is the "loops" extension installed?
If so, is there a local guide on how to use it? mtew 01:43, 30 November 2008 (UTC)
- As far as I am aware, LoopFunctions is not supported, simply because there has never been a use for it. GWW's policy has always been to hold off on installing the bells and whistles until someone comes along with a valid use for it. What exactly are you trying to do? Perhaps there is an alternate way of doing it, and, if not, we could always ask GWW's IT people to install it when they get the chance. No guarantees it would pass, though. --orith is so fail 01:49, 30 November 2008 (UTC)
- I am trying to make a proper set of general navigation templates with parameters. The two interfaces would be "NavBar", which is mostly useful for formal documents like tutorials that have a definite sequence to their contents, and "Tabs", which puts up a page switch like the action tabs at the top of this page, except that they are user defined and there can be several of them. While the "NavBar" is fairly straight forward, processing the variable number of positional parameters in "Tabs" gets pretty ugly unless you have parameter scanning tools like extensions:LoopFunctions. It is possible to construct something by repeating a sequence enough times and editing each to check for a different parameter, but that can cause problems if something has to be changed. I know that I can miss changing a line or two when I have to do that. PITA! The #foreach function lets me write one line that can process up to a hundred positional parameters. (There is also ways to iterate over keyword parameters.) So instead of writing:
{{ {{ #ifeq {Select} | 1 | SelectedTab | UnselectedTab }} | {} }}
mumble {{ {{ #ifeq {Select} | 2 | SelectedTab | UnselectedTab }} | {} }} mumble
mumble {{ {{ #ifeq {Select} | 3 | SelectedTab | UnselectedTab }} | {} }} mumble
- and so on where "mumble mumble" is a test to assure the parameter is present, I could write:
{{ #foreach $n$ | {{ #ifeq {Select} | $n$ | SelectedTab | UnselectedTab }} | {} }}
- without any extra test for missing parameters. (At least that's how I understand it should be written, but I have been known to be wrong on occasion.) --The preceding unsigned comment was added by User:Mtew (talk). Thanks Gordon Ecker, sleepy as usual... mtew 15:54, 30 November 2008 (UTC)

- Just a note, it's generally considered good practice, if you're going to use an image in your signature, to re-upload a copy specifically for your signature image - that way if the official one changes (or is removed/renamed), it won't break your sig. Skill bar for NPCs
I've looked through some of the skill bars for NPCs (including monsters) and there seems to be a variation in a standard for setting them out. While, in general, they all go in alphabetical order, some of them first list all normal skills in ABC order then it lists all Monster Skills in ABC order after while others put them together (a good example is too look through some of the Margonite and Torment Demon pages). What I want to know, is there a set standard for listing skills for NPCs (I've had a look around and couldn't find anything)? If no then what do you suggest, first list normal and monsters skills seperately in ABC order or list them together?
I'd be willing to go through every monster page and fix this up though I'd like to see what some other people have to say on this matter. b.r // talk 05:04, 8 December 2008 (UTC)
- Yes, there is a standard. According to NPC style guide, skills should be sorted by profession first, then alphabetically. The profession order is listed at profession style guide, common skills such as Resurrection Signet are listed after profession-specific skills, and monster / NPC only skills are listed last. -- Gordon Ecker (talk) 05:59, 8 December 2008 (UTC)

IP Switching
Ok. I am at a friends house atm and she uses an ISP called Hughesnet (im connecting through a wireless router on my laptop if that will help answer my question). Now it seems that the IP switches every so often, so I am wondering if this will prevent me from logging in. I have tried logging in several times but when I go to a new page on the wiki it logs me out and shows a different IP address. - Catches cannot be responsible for IP changes, Poke. As for the issue; your not being identified as the logged on person, meaning that both the means the wiki uses are failing. Obviously, that your ISP changes /24s all the time (some sort of proxypark?) prevents IDing you from your IP. But your browser should still be able to do it, so I suspect the security level is set to too high, preventing the info from being stored. Backsword 07:53, 10 December 2008 (UTC)

It seems that the page about the special and always active monster skills of Prophecies bosses that caused hexes and conditions to end prematurely somehow vanished.
