Template Tables[edit]

I have generated two seperate tables for the various outposts. I am considering combining them into one template, alphebetically, with some sort of small tag or graphic after each mission out post that would indicate the difference. The tag, if usefull, could also link to the mission article for that outpost. Any suggestions? LeFick 03:54, 11 November 2007 (UTC)

Well aside from use-lowercase for the headers and template names, I'm confused as to why those "templates" are even necessary? They aren't really templates and they're not included into other pages. It's probably better to just merge them all in this page. -- ab.er.rant sig 02:49, 14 November 2007 (UTC)
Then way was that not done on the Explorable area page? Those are templates, I just copied how it was done there. Otherwise, Merging is fine with me - I just like consistancy. LeFick 03:20, 14 November 2007 (UTC)
So far, Poke, Anja and Ab.er.rant have questioned the need to have an externally referenced table in a template listing towns or outposts. If this is raising eyebrows among the sysops now, why wasn't this question asked when it was first done on the explorable area pageback in June. I also looked back into the explorable area page and saw that the templates on that page were made by User:Emily Diehl. If I am wrong, is she wrong? LeFick 17:19, 14 November 2007 (UTC)
Because I didn't notice the change to explorable areas :) I think they're rather pointless too. I'm of the opinion that page inclusions should be used if there's a good reason in doing so, like reusing them to reduce redundancy across more than one page. But I won't complain about them remaining as page inclusions though, since they're already done :) -- ab.er.rant sig 02:59, 15 November 2007 (UTC)
I thought the templates were done for neatness, and in case anyone wanted them in the future. However, I'll keep your suggestion in mind on future posts. Thanks LeFick 12:27, 15 November 2007 (UTC)

Reorganization[edit]

(I swear I posted this before, but .... anyway).

I've been working on a fairly substantial revision to this page. The thing I'm wondering is what to do with the tables. I was planning on pulling them into the page as the one-use templates seem superfulous (or at the very least should not be in the main template space); and then I got to thinking, there are so many other List of Foo pages, how about making seperate pages called List of Outposts and such.

And then I was wondering, would it be good to do a set of pages that listed each of the campaign/continent's outposts, mission outposts, towns, arenas, etc by region instead. Any thoughts?

Also, are the map icons for towns and such on the wiki somewhere already? I can't figure out how to find them. Thanks.

You can find the icons at World Map. You're right though, they weren't easy to find. I had to search the images list and then found the page where some of them were used it. I'll go perhaps create a category for them. As for this page, it's mostly been unchanged from the time it was first created so feel free to change it to something that more reflects the current style employed elsewhere. It would probably be nice to do something like the attribute pages (eg. Death Magic or Marksmanship) where the list appears below some description/explanation/introduction. -- ab.er.rant User Ab.er.rant Sig.png 09:58, 18 June 2008 (UTC)
Done. Category:Map icons. -- ab.er.rant User Ab.er.rant Sig.png 10:03, 18 June 2008 (UTC)
Cool. I just found World Map at random and redirected Map icon to it. Ideally, Map Icon should be what's there and World Map should be about the map, but I'll see about that later perhaps. I'm currently fiddling with better table designs over at User:Star Weaver/sandbox#Table?, too. I've got a lot more description in my rewrite but that's still lurking in my VI :). --The preceding unsigned comment was added by User:Star Weaver (talk).
Looking good. (and I love VI too :D) -- ab.er.rant User Ab.er.rant Sig.png 01:37, 19 June 2008 (UTC)

Modify services description?[edit]

Proposed change:

From: are usually limited to storage and merchants only

To: are limited, usually to storage and a merchant, but sometimes a few other services are available

Why?: It is easy to overlook usually and that leaves the impression that if there are more than just a merchant and storage, that the place is more than just an outpost.  The rephrase emphasizes the limited nature of the services but makes it clear that other services are sometimes available.

I honestly fail to see any difference as to their meanings, and I also don't agree that the "usually" is easy to overlook, because otherwise, there are tonnes of sentences on this wiki needing rewrites. It's really just semantics. A minor rewrite like that does not require you to bring it up for discussion. Just rephrase it to what you think is better. -- ab.er.rant User Ab.er.rant Sig.png 15:00, 29 December 2008 (UTC)
