Weren't all of his locations and dialogues done before Nicholas even appeared the first time, ruling out any relation to a piece of fanfic that appeared later? ..but then again, where's the fun in that? Tub 20:30, 10 January 2011 (UTC)
yeah i also thought of that. pretty sure they wrote all of his weekly dialogues in advance. John Hargrove could also tell us that there are 137 items in total that he is searching for and that they're going to loop, so it's rather unprobable. —ZerphatalkThe Improver 20:39, 10 January 2011 (UTC)
We know (from the Krait Skin week) that some dialogue wasn't yet in the system. We know that not all translations were available early on. We also have seen any number of updates. There's absolutely no reason that they couldn't have updated a single look-up table to change the dialogue for this week. As for the 137-week loop, we'll find out at the end of the year. (If it's a multi-cycle loop, we'll be playing GW3 before we discover the pattern.)  — Tennessee Ernie Ford (TEF) 20:47, 10 January 2011 (UTC)
Only his items and locations were programmed for 2 years. His dialogue may or may not have been. -- Konig/talk 23:50, 10 January 2011 (UTC)
Reference is tenuous at best. I just don't see it.Lyra ValoUser Lyra Valo Sig.jpg 00:01, 11 January 2011 (UTC)

(Reset indent) not that tenuous actually. If his lines were not written in advance, it actually could be possible. He might as well just talk about building fishtraps with the Gruesome Ribcages. Yet their name are a good item where you could ask yourself "why would someone want to collect that?", so possibly they planned doing an alternate Nicholas reference already for some time and just waited for a good, dubious item. —ZerphatalkThe Improver 10:06, 11 January 2011 (UTC)

@Zerpha - There are 137 explorable areas in all of Tyria, so it couldn't have taken John weeks of planning to give us that piece of trivia. --Manassas User Manassas Mannysig.png 10:19, 11 January 2011 (UTC)

Actually, there are more than that, but the others are not useful for NtT: Pre-Searing, a bunch of substitutes only accessible while doing specific battle quests (e.g. Kamadan during Bad Tide Rising), post-end-game areas, the two non-Prophecies tutorial zones (especially Nightfall's, which you absolutely cannot get back to), the Hall of Monuments (check it, it's an Explorable), and so on. Cynique 10:58, 11 January 2011 (UTC)

Still the same thing. There are 137 vanquishable explorable areas in Tyria which are the ones being used for Nick, not one more, not one less. --Manassas User Manassas Mannysig.png 12:21, 11 January 2011 (UTC)
I wasn't disputing that. I was disputing the flat, unqualified statement that there are 137 explorable areas, full stop. In effect, we both qualified the statement, so I'll stop there, lest we violently agree. Cynique 13:12, 11 January 2011 (UTC)
Well i wasn't talking about the area, i was talking about the item. If someone asks for an abomination's Gruesome Ribcage it makes this person more whimsical than if he just asks for some seeds, wine, hides, coins or the like. —ZerphatalkThe Improver 15:30, 11 January 2011 (UTC)
I also doubt he'll ever visit the Realm of Torment. I would think he only visits vanquishable areas, but there are only 121 of those. – NuclearDuckie 07:14, 17 January 2011 (UTC)
I don't think the number of vanquishable or explorable zones matter much; he'll probably re-visit zones, as long as there are trophies and whatnot available for request (i.e: Trophies he has not requested before); and that number is greater than 121 or 137. --talk Large 16:26, 17 January 2011 (UTC)
It was John Hargrove who told us that Nick will travel to 137 locations. source. As it turns out, there are 137 vanquishable locations. However, the original question on this page was whether Nick's gruesome ribcage dialogue had anything to do with User:Aliceandsven/Alternate Nicholas. "...if you took my requests for items out of context, one might construe that I am a rather twisted fellow." Nicholas the Traveler
There were two arguments against:
  1. Reference is tenuous at best — any reference is in the eye of the beholder.
  2. pretty sure they wrote all of his weekly dialogues in advance — there is plenty of evidence that (some) dialogues have been changed since Nick arrived.

Here is the dialog for this week: "I'm glad to find an ally out here! This isn't my favorite locale, but I ventured here to help a friend. Durmand is amassing quite an extensive collection of art from other cultures, and he's always interested in more. He mentioned wanting Superb Charr Carvings, and, while I'm no fan of the Charr, I can't say no to a friend in need. I promised I'd bring him 3 from my travels. If you come across any, I would be happy to trade for them." Link to image of it: http://img34.imageshack.us/i/traveler01172011.png/

Wedding dialogue move

I do not get this move. The sub-page has, and imo should remain, as the dialogue for the weekly changes. He will always say the wedding dialogue, no matter when you show up there, so it isn't going to be an incredibly long list (like the other dialogue is) - which is why the sub-page was made. Not only that, but now the wedding dialogue, which is as I said always accessible cannot be viewed on Nick's main page. That should not be the case. People should not be forced to go to navigate through page after page to get currently accessible in the game content. I've always viewed the /dialogue sub-page as an archive, like Category:Nicholas the Traveler maps is for the maps. -- Konig/talk 19:06, 17 January 2011 (UTC)

Moved it back. G R E E N E R 19:26, 17 January 2011 (UTC)
My reasoning is that this article is the third-most viewed page on this wiki, and most of the viewers sure don't come to view the wedding dialogue. The position it's at may be confusing if you only care for the weekly hunt and don't look too carefully. I understand the reasoning about the "current content" / "archive" split, but I'd still like to see a way to move it out of the way of the "weekly hunt"-content. Any other ideas? Tub 19:50, 17 January 2011 (UTC)
I fail to see how it can be confusing. The weekly article is on top, and the two are split by two very bold lines:
Previous and the Wedding dialogue can be seen on the dialogue page
Olafstead (during the Wedding)
And if one read the final line - which is where the item amount always is at, you get "Just kidding! I got a few from one of the Vanguard scouts a little while ago!" furthering telling the difference between the two. If people mistake the two dialogues when they come here weekly, they must not be very bright. -- Konig/talk 19:59, 17 January 2011 (UTC)
If someone is reading the whole article and still goes hunting for Berserker Horns, there isn't much we can do about that. But most people aren't reading the article (certainly not everytime they visit), instead they're just skimming it for the piece of information they're looking for. And if the eye happens to find that cute Berserker Horns link in some dialogue-like formatted paragraph first, user goes *clicky*, user goes hunting, user gets disappointed.
I'm not saying it's common or that anyone is to blame for it but that guy with the stack of berserker horns, but we're spending a lot of time improving the articles, making them easier to understand (even for the not-so-bright people) and helping players avoid pitfalls. Why shouldn't we do the same here? Tub 03:08, 18 January 2011 (UTC)
Because people who skim here skim here weekly and should be able to see the two big bold lines separating the two dialogues. I don't see why we should limit an article just for the sake of making things "easier" (a subjective occurrence might I add!). I don't see how we're spending time to make them "easier to understand and helping players avoid pitfalls" - at least, the times I improve them, I'm focused more on maximizing the information in the article in an organized format - and this is organized. And maximizing the information on the article. -- Konig/talk 03:52, 18 January 2011 (UTC)
I agree with Konig, that the risk of misunderstanding is very slim. However, a salomonic approach to this could be to remove the wikilink from Berserker Horns as it is a joke anyway and that he could as well have asked for non existing stuff. This way we retain the dialogue as we should and still avoid "mis-clicks" --Manassas User Manassas Mannysig.png 09:43, 18 January 2011 (UTC)
I doubt people skimming the article for the item of the week will make it as far as the dialogue. The top of the page has all the info they want. I say leave it as it is.--User Pyron Sy sig.png Pyron Sy 13:12, 18 January 2011 (UTC)

While it hasn't confused me, I always see the Berserker Horns request first before I see the one he's actually asking for, probably because "Superb Charr Carvings" is not a blue link in his dialogue, but "Berserker Horns" is. Maybe changing the way they're labeled would work? Or changing the formatting some? Something like "This Week's Dialogue" for whatever he's asking for this week, and just plain "Dialogue" or "Other Dialogue" for the wedding dialogue? Or, adding a couple extra blank lines between what he's asking for this week and the wedding dialogue? Or adding a dividing line between them? Or putting an additional box at the top summarizing what he's asking for and where he is? Or something along those lines?--Res 00:46, 19 January 2011 (UTC)

There already is a summary at the top of the page, listing his location, what he wants, and how many.--User Pyron Sy sig.png Pyron Sy 00:59, 19 January 2011 (UTC)
It really does belong in the notes section. Past dialogs go in the archive. After we do the wedding his dialog within is no longer seen. Aro User Aro Signature Logo.gif 01:11, 24 January 2011 (UTC)
What belongs in the notes section? And it's not past dialogue. It's not seen to us but it's always viewable to someone whereas the weekly dialogue is not. -- Konig/talk 11:08, 24 January 2011 (UTC)

Really worth the time?

I'm just wondering if taking the time to farm the items Nicholas wants is really worth it. I have never gotten anything that is worth anything to me and all I really want from him is a Moss Spider Egg. I want to complete my menagerie and all I am missing is this one, the Black Widow Spider and the Rainbow Phoenix. I don't think there are any rewards for completing the menagerie, it is just a personal goal, although I accept that I will never have the Rainbow Phoenix and possibly this one. The Black Widow will be hard, but not completely out of reach.

Tameable wild Moss Spiders were before I started GW. I wish they would have, at least, left them as an exclusively Pre-searing tameable pet. You can't get Tigers and Phoenix's without the Factions campaign, or Lions and Hyenas without the Nightfall campaign, so why the change for the moss spiders? Having the moss spiders as excusively pre-searing would only mean that you'd have to create a perfectly deletable pre-searing character to tame and carry the spider over to post-searing. The same thing hordes of people do for the pre-searing Nicholas and the hunters ale quest.

Yea, my target audience is SO the developers! ;o) Kass Munroe 21:28, 18 January 2011 (UTC)

(1) sell your gifts for 5k each. 80% or more of the farms take 60 minutes or less (or you can farm trades for the requested item). If you sell all 5 gifts, that's 20k for an hour of your time (at worst, 5k for 15 min of time, if you spend a lot in trade). You can use some of that money to buy an egg (they go for 15-50k, depending).
(2) The expected value of the contents of opened GotT is something around 3k, if you were to sell everything at current market rates.
(3) If your target audience is the developers, why not offer a suggestion that they are more likely to read? (You might also consider that their goal might have been to offer additional sources for consumable titles and summoning stones; the low-frequency items might just be a modestly cool bonus.)  — Tennessee Ernie Ford (TEF) 21:47, 18 January 2011 (UTC)
(1) Money isn't an issue, really. Well, kinda-sorta. But, how many Moss Spider Eggs could there possibly be out there to buy and how many of those are real, not devourer? Lot's of scammers out there.
(2) See number 1.
(3) Might try that.
Kass Munroe 01:47, 19 January 2011 (UTC)
Zoins... or faction. 24.197.253.243 02:14, 19 January 2011 (UTC)
Slight correction, Kass- Moss Spiders were NEVER tamable in Pre-Searing. Nicholas was the first (and only, besides paying Helena for the unlock) way of obtaining one.
As for Nick being "worth the time"... the only worth involved is monetary, and if (as you replied to Tennessee) money is not an issue, then you can just buy an egg from a player and happily ignore Nick. Or again, pay the Menagerie NPC. 96.33.173.168 02:22, 19 January 2011 (UTC)
"You can't get Tigers and Phoenix's without the Factions campaign, or Lions and Hyenas without the Nightfall campaign" Just as you cannot get Melandru's stalkers, lynx's, (normal) moa, or black bears. The only pet which isn't game specific - outside Helena that is - is warthog. So that argument is flawed. And having a pre-Searing-only-gained pet would be bad. Why? Because many people don't have enough character slots for a new pre-Searing character, myself being one (though I'm irrelevant as I happened to have gotten 2 Moss eggs thus far). -- Konig/talk 02:43, 19 January 2011 (UTC)
I read it somewhere, although I cannot find it now. The idea that Moss Spiders were once tameable in the wild didn't just pop into my head out of the blue. It said they were once tameable, but it was changed in an update. But if you say so... I'm not looking for argument. Kass Munroe 03:35, 19 January 2011 (UTC)
If you really want an egg, try Kamadan. I sold two eggs myself in the last three months. As for the scamming, just read carefully what you are being offered. If you are careful, you can't get scammed unless the other party uses a hack or something. As for being worth, I used to do Nick whenever I could to max my consumable titles. I finally maxed all three and suddenly don't have that much will to go farm for the items anymore. I find myself only going when I have nearly enough items already on my mules. So, as to being "worth it", I guess that depends for every individual player. If you are just there for the egg, I suggest buying one. Finding them is a lot easier than you think. I also wanted a full menagerie and settled for the fact that Moss Spider was probably the only pet I would never get as money has always been an issue for me. Then a friend got me one and recently I got gifted an egg twice.--Fogeltje 13:03, 19 January 2011 (UTC)

If any moss spiders were tamable, it was only briefly...and only in early 2005. I have seen rumors about the tamability of the moss spider, but I think they were based on an incorrect edit of the Guild Wiki article over 5 years ago.  — Tennessee Ernie Ford (TEF) 20:12, 19 January 2011 (UTC)
I may be wrong as I missed the beta myself but I believe it was during the beta that they were tameable (can't remember where I read this so can't quote), I started soon after launch and have never been able to tame them. Draco 20:48, 31 January 2011 (UTC)

Then I had to go back to try to get my last one, took me 3 more runs but I got 20+ eyes. The drop rate was really high, one run every one was dropping them. My Alliance was pretty happy. Abnormal appearance in Pockmark Flats (week of 24 Jan 2011)

In Talk:Pockmark Flats#Different Spawns Observed, two players have noted that there are three different types of spawns in the circular valley in the north (the one surrounding the crystal); there can be Storm Riders, Elementals, or Gargoyles. It's possible that Nick appears only with one or two of these groups (instead of all the time). If you exit from Serenity Temple, you should be able to tell if you're going to get Storm Riders or not and rezone accordingly.  — Tennessee Ernie Ford (TEF) 01:49, 26 January 2011 (UTC)

Nick has spawned for me no matter which of the 3 spawns I got. Ditto - ran through with a friend and neither Nick nor the collector were there. Spawn was Storm Riders, I think. I just ran through again separately and now I can see Nick as well as the collector. This time, I got whiptails spawning. He also shows up for my friend, so obviously he does not have an active quest that blocks Nick from spawning either. *Edit* I went back a few times to confirm. Is there a better place to get Mandibles than Salt Flats? Not many of them around there, and will take a few runs. Is there a better place in the desert? The preceding unsigned comment was added by 202.49.200.143 (talk • contribs) at 16:46, 31 January 2011 (UTC).

I farmed mine in and around the area in the north where Nick is. There are many pop-ups between the portal to Diviner's Ascent and that little closed off area where Nick is located. I found the drop rate is so-so, not too many mandibles in each run. 193.215.199.34 08:36, 2 February 2011 (UTC)

If you can find someone with the quest The Monk's Path still active, then that will spawn several waves of scarabs that could be farmed. --BramStoker (talk, contribs) 07:55, 1 February 2011 (UTC)

Or try farming them at Kepkhet Marrowfeast, plenty of scarabs around that location. Damysticreaper 15:01, 1 February 2011 (UTC)
Note that the Scarabs added in the March 2, 2006 update to Prophet's Path DO NOT drop any trophy at all. That includes Marrows, Nest Builders and Kepkhet herself. I answered ur bug message, but it was deleted. It was not a bug. You can't get the nicholas the traveler previous week gifts after 15:00 GMT monday, the location had already changed. 89.154.49.179 15:45, 7 February 2011 (UTC)
You answered the message and then delete it? What r u doing? And. No. That behavior is a bug. Nicholas should response. The dead line should be the time player enter the map.218.250.9.27 16:03, 7 February 2011 (UTC)
I didnt delete your page. Read signs pls and sign your comments too. Here it is the answer to ur bug "Nicholas does not exchange items for gifts in two situations: If you enter an area before Nick's scheduled move time, but do not reach him until afterward, Nick will not speak to you at all; He attends The Wedding as a guest of Gwen's, but not as a collector." Source: http://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/Nicholas_the_Traveler 89.154.49.179 15:56, 7 February 2011 (UTC)
Consistency is really important. If nick is not going to response, make him disappear after the scheduled move time. Since, from a player's point of view, nick is standing right in front. Then nick should response. If nick standing right in front, but not response, then this behavior itself is a BUG.218.250.9.27 16:02, 7 February 2011 (UTC)

I wouldn't call that a bug. He doesn't respond if it's past the time he's supposed to move. He doesn't just vanish from the instance because really, he doesn't need to (and who knows, they might not even be able to make him do that). Next time you load that instance, he won't be there, anyway.--Res 16:07, 7 February 2011 (UTC)

The point is, the player still see nick. Do u get that? A consistent behavior is that either the player does not see nick at all. If a player see nick, nick should response.218.250.9.27 16:09, 7 February 2011 (UTC)
If you're unwilling to dismiss minor idiosyncrasies like this one as engine limitations, think of it this way: Nick has found what he needs, he's hit his deadline and is packing up, and he's too busy to talk to you right now. --Irgendwer 16:13, 7 February 2011 (UTC)
Technical limitation right? So it IS a bug. Fine. But I am still very angry and unhappy about it.218.250.9.27 16:18, 7 February 2011 (UTC)
perhaps the least anet could make nick response "I am busy", or "screw u guys, I m going home" message. That would certainly cause less confusion then nick not responding, standing there doing nothing. 218.250.9.27 17:33, 7 February 2011 (UTC)
Technical limitations is not a bug. A bug is what happens when things are not working as intended. A limitation merely limits that. And I'd think the limitation would prevent any kind of dialogue. -- Konig/talk 17:53, 7 February 2011 (UTC)
This behaviour is clearly documented on this page, as well as the fact that Nick moves at 15:00 UTC on Mondays. It's the way Anet did it. Can't we choose to live with that? I'd rather Anet spent time fixing 'real' bugs and/or working on the new content than changing this behaviour.Zohane Trueaim 18:01, 7 February 2011 (UTC)

Bug Bug Bug

I found this annoying bug that Nicholas the Traveler does not response while standing right in front of me.

Fix this annoying bug please.

Imagine a player spend time/money on the items, make it last minute in time. But Nicholas just freaking not response.

You have no idea how it feels. 218.250.9.27 16:44, 7 February 2011 (UTC)

If you read the page, you would see the note that tells you that Nick won't respond if you talk to him just after he was supposed to move. Try getting to him before the very last second next time, perhaps? Edit: Whoops, wrote that before seeing that it was already all cleared up above. 128.113.201.222 16:09, 7 February 2011 (UTC)

(Reset indent) I agree with you that the developers should have set up Nick so that he (a) disappears or (b) changes his dialogue... if you remain in his instance at the witching hour. But I also think his current behavior is neither anomalous nor buggy.

Technically, a bug is when the software behaves in a manner inconsistent or at odds with the manufacturer's intent. In this case, all indications are that the game is working as intended — in particular, we know the game has code that allows an NPC to walk away and disappear and (for whatever reasons), the developers chose not to trigger that at 9 am Pacific Time.

You could argue that the behavior is anomalous, except that there are lots of other NPCs that stop talking to you after their part in a quest has been completed. And there are others that continue to speak, but use dialogue that no longer applies. I agree that's shortsighted, but that doesn't make it a bug.  — Tennessee Ernie Ford (TEF) 17:44, 7 February 2011 (UTC)

If this bothers OP a great deal, then I suggest he post a bug report directly to Anet. Filling these pages with complaints isn't going to make it go away IMO. 193.215.199.34 12:11, 8 February 2011 (UTC)

This week's dialogue

This week's dialogue is: So this is the Desolation, land of the dead and home to no man. It does have its perks, though! For instance, I haven't heard a single sniffle out of the Professor over there since we arrived. I think it's because of the way sulfuric fumes combine with the naturally dry desert air. He's had a lingering cold, and on top of that he got nipped on the leg when we had to run from a pack of hyenas. Speaking of which, would you happen to have 3 Mummy Wrappings that I can use to mend his leg? I'd change it myself, but the page is "protected", so somebody for whom it's not protected will have to change it for me. 65.92.35.18 23:47, 7 February 2011 (UTC)

Apparently Mr. Yak has an invisible fifth leg in need of mending. 24.118.99.65 03:49, 8 February 2011 (UTC)
Now I'm starting to believe Alice&Sven speculations of nick (alternate nicholas)... he should be really powerful to walk on the sulphur without dying...--Domador 16:31, 8 February 2011 (UTC)
What makes you suppose he walked rather than wormed across the sulfur?  — Tennessee Ernie Ford (TEF) 16:43, 8 February 2011 (UTC)
According to Palawa, the player characters (and heroes and henchmen) are the first to tame Aijundu, other than himself. I suppose other people could have done it without his knowing, though. Either way, it implies Nick's more powerful than he lets on.
Using a wrapping ripped from a zombie as a bandage probably isn't a good idea, though- who knows what diseases are in that thing. 96.33.173.168 17:32, 8 February 2011 (UTC)

GuildWiki in the Notes Section

Why have this link here if it isnt updated every week? I deleted it last week, but it was immediatly put back up. If no one can give a good reason as to why it should be here Im going to delete it again. the_decline 01:11, 16 February 2011 (UTC)

It has been updated nearly every week since Nick appeared. In fact, a few months ago, it sometimes was updated before GWW's Nick page was. This week hardly requires farming notes. Please don't delete it unless (a) there's a general consensus that we shouldn't link and/or (b) it goes a month without being updated (and we can declare it a dead link). Thanks.  — Tennessee Ernie Ford (TEF) 02:02, 16 February 2011 (UTC)

Thoughts?

What do you guys think of adding the YouTube guide to the list of resources for farming Nick's items in the Notes section? It seems like a good resource as long as it's available, and the builds used and areas farmed could help users get more ideas of what to use and where. Just thought I'd bring it up since it was featured in the news recently. Sardaukar User Sardaukar sig.png 02:21, 20 February 2011 (UTC)

Sure, why not include it? It's featured as you say. And it seems to be available weekly. On the other hand, it's one person's opinion (not vetted by the community) and a video guide is serious overkill for 90% of farming. However, the worst thing that happens is that no one follows the link (or it turns out not to be very helpful for those who do); in that unlikely situation, it's easy enough to remove it.  — Tennessee Ernie Ford (TEF) 04:55, 20 February 2011 (UTC)
(just notices this is here) I don't mind if the link gets put on the page, but as the guy above said, the locations I farm in are my personal opinion. I certainly take care in to picking areas, but I will admit that I'm not always 100% spot on. I wouldn't mind having somewhere for community opinions to be submitted, but the difficult part being that I release the videos every Monday night, only a few hours after Nick's new location/item is discovered. This doesn't leave much time for the community to give input on locations to farm. --Rølin

No, finishing eotn =/= you have started WiK, it means that you have "activated" the changes to the environment in Kryta. You yourself haven't started the Wik, but the game is preparing itself incase you do. Saying that "No WiK" is a prerequisite would be incorrect as nobody would know what that means from your perspective. Got the WiK quest? Listened to some WiK dialogues? Who knows? The point I was getting on was that the prereq. should have been prior to the completion of prophecies and/or eotn as is stated currently in the article.–User Balistic B d-dark.pngalistic 23:26, 21 February 2011 (UTC)

Perhaps on a subpage or part of one. Not on the main Nick page though. Nicholas the Traveler/Research seems like a good place - a new section at the bottom with a table showing the places not been to yet. Or better yet, a list of all places with 2 places per row separated by a No or Yes mark to show which places he has and hasn't been to yet, and how many times (this is for when he starts repeating locations, mainly). -- Konig/talk 20:49, 21 February 2011 (UTC)

I could see it if the map from the explorable side like that was an encounter-free route (which it can be in Bjora Marches), but you still have the Vaettir and Mandragors in the way, and I'd personally rather deal with berserkers and their bunch than vaettir with a regular party. 66.228.16.64 02:06, 12 April 2011 (UTC)

Hasn't anyone noticed that this weeks request makes no sense? It says Professor Yakkington feels all downy because there is no Dolyak Totem. but if you check out the guildwars 2 website, you will find a dolyak totem (also known as ox), and that it was killed/went missing since Jormag awakened. This would mean that there IS in fact, a Dolyak totem -Bragoran the Wicked

Or maybe the norn decided to take one after the efforts of nicholas to convince them to have a totem for the dolyak wich became the Ox Totem. Damysticreaper 10:40, 12 April 2011 (UTC)
Now that is actually a completely reasonable answer. Sneaker 12:52, 12 April 2011 (UTC)
I find that hard to believe, since they would have called him " Nicholas the preacher" if he was magically able to make other races suddenly believe in a new Deity. The Ox totem was known as being amongst the Spirits of the Wild Before this weeks Event, and if you read the quote in the top of that page, you can see that Egil Fireteller knew about an Ox totem too. I may be picky if it comes to this, but having your lore right should be top priority in an MMORPG if you ask me. -Bragoran 15:49, 12 April 2011
A yak is an type of ox, and one can reasonably assume a dolyak is also a type of ox. So it still fits within the lore if there is an "ox" totem (for the group), but no "dolyak" totem (for the individual type). 66.170.212.17 19:10, 12 April 2011 (UTC)

Trophy Predictions

Its getting down to the wire on places for him to hide. Between that list, the monsters on those maps, and the drops used so far, I think we can put together an educated guess to what we should be farming in the future, in a preemtive genocide on the unsuspecting monsters.

Flame Temple Corridor - I am fairly certain will be Charr Carvings. Short of a curveball, he does monsters in the map he is in, and that map is 95-100% Charr. May be a small scattering of other things I missed last time there. The horrible curveball would be Molten Claws, since you can get titans in this map as I recall, and there are no Ring of Fire maps available.
Diessa Lowlands - I believe the Singed Gargoyle Skulls will be the item. It hasn't been done, Stormy Eyes are out, as are the lodestones from the golems, and the carapaces from the devourers.

I just hope when he runs out of places, that John and the developers randomize his spawns and requested items so hes NOT a repetitive cycle like the Zaishen stuff. *Malganis Frostmourn* 69.3.77.82 06:28, 19 April 2011 (UTC)
You would like to keep 137 stacks of trophies? Instead of just 4-8 weeks at-a-time? Or do you mean generate another 137 pairs of items + dialogues?  — Tennessee Ernie Ford (TEF) 07:25, 19 April 2011 (UTC)
I think Mal is saying this and I'd agree. To randomize the weeks up and it not all be the same - no constant repeats. Meaning like say one week he collects hides. Next week tusks. Third week leather. If we know what he'd want each week. It'd get boring. Where as one week be hides. Next week leather. Third week tusks, etc. And each location be mixed up as well. I'd like to still see the fun in "hunting him", instead of oh he's "here" this week. Okay I have this stack of the items to sell or more gifts to sell, etc. I think it'd be more fun to keep the enthusiasm that the nick hunters have so far in finding him, etc. Kaisha User Kaisha Sig.png 07:59, 19 April 2011 (UTC)
Yup, I'd go with that. No predictability. For 137 weeks, a sequence of locations+trophies, but not the same sequence as this time around (and maybe not even the same combinations), to keep us guessing. Cynique 08:27, 19 April 2011 (UTC)
Also keep in mind that there are more trophies to obtain than there are explorables, so nick can be in a same location but asking for a different type of trophy. (For the Shattered Ravines my gues would be sandblasted lodestones). Damysticreaper 10:46, 19 April 2011 (UTC)
Speaking of curveballs, the Enslavement Stones threw me. They aren't actually in the area where he's residing for the week. In addition to the Dredge Manifestos, are there other dungeon or dungeon-like area (what exactly is Sorrow's Furnace, anyway?) drops that you can't get in explorable areas? Perhaps a list of those would be helpful as well. PJ 19:29, 19 April 2011 (UTC)
Actually, yes, they are.The stone summit in the footprint drop them just like in the furnace. Guildwarsrunner 19:49, 19 April 2011 (UTC)
Obtainable as a second more rare trophy from the stone summit in Grenth's Footprint and in Sorrow's Furnace but nowhere else. Your best bet on them is to raid Sorrow's, those dwarves are a pretty easy enemy since most of their damage come from attacks wich can be blocked, spells they use can be easily countered as well. (and i for one am sure glad i saved some of them when i did Sorrow's). Damysticreaper 19:55, 19 April 2011 (UTC)

It might be worth mentioning that he's in the part of Sunijang that is restricted by the closed gate, preventing characters who have not completed the Sunijang mission from visiting Nick (without necrotic or some such spell).

Rumor has it Marga coast, 3 Insect Carapaces per gift. 85.19.140.9 16:22, 2 May 2011 (UTC)

Confirmed location in Marga Coast and 3 Insect Carapaces per gift. He is located north of Lunto and about halfway between Chor and the Fort.
I am working on getting the image of the location now. Found him, added him to all 3 sites. (guru, guildwiki, and here). Kaisha User Kaisha Sig.png 16:36, 2 May 2011 (UTC)

As a consequence, Heket Tongues and Sentient Lodestones will most likely be collected in Sunward Marches and Dejarin Estate. Kanda 17:55, 2 May 2011 (UTC)

Nick doesn't seem to be appearing with Building The Base: Interrogation active--87.208.165.35 18:17, 2 May 2011 (UTC)
Will most likely be fixed in a following update. Damysticreaper 18:37, 2 May 2011 (UTC)
ANet usually doesn't bother adjusting for quest-based issues unless that presents a problem to a large fraction of players. Since WiK can be difficult to turn on/off, ANet moves Nick to fix that. However, when Nick was in Pockmark, they didn't bother (even though his appearance was connected with that of another NPC) as it created only a minor issue.
So, I predict that they won't release an update to move Nick (although, if there's another update for some other reason, they might take advantage of that).  — Tennessee Ernie Ford (TEF) 18:49, 2 May 2011 (UTC)
Just checked and was able to find Nick with "Building The Base: Interrogation" active. So may be some other problem or quest? Robdalf 23:29, 2 May 2011 (UTC)
I had the quest active and Nick didn't appear; I completed the quest (but didn't turn it in to Lonai), and when I re-entered the zone Nick appeared. It really does seem like that quest affects the spawn. --Morgana1 07:00, 8 May 2011 (UTC)
It might be a randomized bug with that quest and Nick. Kaisha User Kaisha Sig.png 07:36, 8 May 2011 (UTC)

Sometimes I'm surprised Anet has Nick asking for just a few of an item that seems to drop frequently. In less than 5 minutes I had 10, it was actually kind of an uninteresting farm. The froggies dropped like flies too. 193.215.199.34 10:54, 31 May 2011 (UTC)
