single profession character

Can u get out of pre with only a single profession and not take a secondary one?--Timeritus Rathbone 18:42, 31 August 2008 (UTC)

No. --Silverleaf User_talk:Silverleaf 21:08, 31 August 2008 (UTC)
On the contrary, I have seen single profession characters at level 20. I just saw a R20 in Tahnaaki Temple.....I think you would be able to do that if you got a Consulate Docks run, but I truthfully do not know. However, I know for sure that there is a way. I'll get back to this question with a definite answer hopefully. --User Wandering Traveler Oie User Wandering Traveler Sig2.png Wandering Traveler 22:11, 31 August 2008 (UTC)
The question is if you can leave Pre-Searing without a secondary, which isn't possible (you can't get the quest to leave until you've gotten a secondary). Same goes for Factions, with the exception (as you said) being in Nightfall, where I believe a Docks run will allow you to skip the gaining a secondary part. However, you're cut off from doing just about every primary quest in Nightfall that way, so Prophecies and Factions storylines will be as far as you can manage. --User Jioruji Derako logo.png Jïörüjï Ðērākō.>.cнаt^ 01:35, 1 September 2008 (UTC)
Prior to Game updates/20070913, if someone decided to leave Pre-Searing, their partner could be "taken through the Searing involuntarily".
Even if said partner didn't had a Secondary Profession.
Not sure if this is the case, though.
Anyways, you could try to figure out what Campaign a character belongs to by looking at their appearance:
Tyrian (Prophecies) = Europe
Cantha (Factions) = E./S.E. Asia
Elona (Nightfall) = N. Africa
Sure, might not be that trivial to figure out, but still a valid thing to check out. --NIN37 05:24, 1 September 2008 (UTC)

Leveling nightfall characters

I'm wondering... Since I don't want to do all of my leveling in the beginning island of Nightfall, -because, to me it's really hard to level to 12- Is there any way that I can get to Factions and level up my Paragon there at a low level? I know there is a way, because I saw a level 4 paragon at Tsumei Village. Could it be that I have to get someone to run me? o.o

~Thanks! --The preceding unsigned comment was added by User:24.247.255.35 (talk).

What that lv 4 para most likely did was get a ferry to Consulate Docks, and then a ferry to Kaineng Center (you can also get one to Lion's Arch from Cons Docks, as well). Otherwise, you've have to wait an eternity and a half before being able to acquire the quests to travel to other campaigns (unless you're going to GW:EN, which you can do at lv 10). --Dragon nataku 05:16, 1 September 2008 (UTC)
So the answer is yes, it's possible to jump to Factions or Prophecies early on, but you need a ferry. Ask around in Kamadan for a ferry to Docks; going price is about 500g, although sometimes you run into more generous ferries. Make sure not to pay in advance, of course. And once at Docks, you can get a ferry to LA or KC (Prophecies and Factions, respectively), for about the same price. Or, since you're at Docks, you can grab some max-level armor there and make leveling a much easier job on the island. --User Jioruji Derako logo.png Jïörüjï Ðērākō.>.cнаt^ 06:27, 1 September 2008 (UTC)

Problems Displaying Full Armour Set

moved from Help:Ask a wiki question

I displayed my monk Labyrinthine armour in the HoM, but did not have my headpiece with me. It seems I am now unable to display the last piece. Is there any way this can be done? --H8s2w8 14:21, 1 September 2008 (UTC)

The headpiece displays automatically even if you do not have it equipped at the time. Of course I don't have a bald monk, so i am unsure if the head pieces do display on the HoM as I know the elementalist and paragon ones do not. -- Salome User salome sig.png 14:24, 1 September 2008 (UTC)

Thanks for quick reply, but problem is, I did not actually own the headpiece at the time. I crafted it a few days later. It is not displayed (and she is bald!). --H8s2w8 14:27, 1 September 2008 (UTC)

Hmm...Are we sure that monk head armour even displays? I know what you mean though, but I have mes armour that I didn't buy the mask for and when I displayed it the mask displayed with it as default. SO if its not displaying on your monk, its either a bug or monk head armour does not display in the HoM. Sorry I cant be more help but my monk has a full head of hair, So ive never noticed. -- Salome User salome sig.png 14:30, 1 September 2008 (UTC)

You're a gem Salome. Thanks for help. And I'll post in correct section next time - oops. --H8s2w8 14:32, 1 September 2008 (UTC)

Looking at the number of armors I've dedicated in HoM it seems that it displays whatever headpiece you were wearing at the time when you dedicated it (even if the headpiece is from a different set). I've only dedicated Monk and Necro armor sets though.- TheRave User TheRave sig.jpg 18:34, 1 September 2008 (UTC)
No that was fixed. It used to be like that when the HoM first came out as I ended up with some fugly head pieces but I dont think it works liek that anymore. -- Salome User salome sig.png 18:35, 1 September 2008 (UTC)
How was it fixed? Because I still have two armor sets which are displaying the wrong headpieces. Is it only fixed for newly dedicated sets?- TheRave User TheRave sig.jpg 06:04, 2 September 2008 (UTC)

dungeons

I played 3 dungeons yesterday not one showed in my dungeon hand book and i completed them is this a bug ? --The preceding unsigned comment was added by User:68.231.61.91 (talk).

Did you have your handbook on you? It doesn't count if it's in your storage. Ale_Jrb (talk) 18:22, 1 September 2008 (UTC)
Also, some quests in GW:EN take place IN dungeons, but I'm pretty sure doing those quests do not count as finishing the dungeon (i.e., Warband of Brothers takes place inside the Cathedral of Flames dungeon, but completing Warband of Brothers does not make Cathedral of Flames be listed as completed in your dungeon book thingy). --Dragon nataku 18:42, 1 September 2008 (UTC)
Also, Normal Mode and a Hard Mode use different versions of the Dungeon Handbook.
Make sure you have the correct one into your inventory before completing the dungeon.
To complete a Dungeon, you usually have to kill a Boss, which will spawn a Dungeon Chest. --NIN37 20:53, 1 September 2008 (UTC)

just completed dasha vestibule mission in nightfall, need help

Just finished mission in Dasha and now there is no further missions available. wiki says with whom I need to talk to, but he is not there. any help??? 68.32.179.15 21:42, 1 September 2008 (UTC)

The wiki says that the quest you want is Pledge of the Merchant Princes given by Zerai the Learner. It says he is located in The Kodash Bazaar OR Resplendent Makuun (if you have the quest Brains or Brawn) OR Cliffs of Dohjok (if you have the quest Scholarly Affairs). Have you checked all three locations for the NPC?- TheRave User TheRave sig.jpg 21:45, 1 September 2008 (UTC)
Since The Kodash Bazaar is a town/outpost, Zerai the Learner will always be there (just next to a fountain, close to Royal Food Taster Rendu, near to Forum Highlands exit). --NIN37 23:27, 1 September 2008 (UTC)

help with "while enchanted"

moved from Help:Ask a wiki question

This is probably do more to my ignorance in what I am reading when I page hop through some of the weapon upgrades. Specifically being redirected from typing "while enchanted" in the search query, which calls forth: GW wiki page: Enchantment Spell (no complaints on that) which is pretty darn good at covering the subject. In fact it's so well written, I feel like I'm missing the big grey elephant in the room or missing the forest for the trees to use a couple of analogies.

My questions:

  1. 1 Is it correct that when I read the weapon values for instance on the weapon: Byndliss' Reaver that when it says damage + 15% (while enchanted) that as long as I have enchanted myself, or someone else has enchanted my character or through other methods as outlined in the Enchanted Spell page which causes my character to be enchanted that I am indeed doing the additional 15 percent more damage? OR is Byndliss' Reaver ONLY doing that + 15% damage to a FOE (or MOB) that is enchanted? In other words, am I getting the extra 15 % damage while the white pattern encircles me, or only if the foe is enchanted? (not sure if enchanted foes have the encircling white pattern or not -- I can't recall seeing it on the mobs.

I find that I'm confused about this, and the more I read the more I was having trouble because the technical write up for the page is so excellent- but the basic question remains elusive to me! I appreciate the editorial work that is ongoing with the contributors, but I also realize that while (to use another analogy) you remove pixels from a pure picture using a compression algorithm like .jpg format, that although the picture is near perfect post-compression, that much data is removed in the process. This is a good thing for reducing file size while retaining an almost perfect representation or reproduction of the original photo.

I see the editorial process in much the same way. It is a process of getting the "wordiness" and overly verbose contributor's description down to a paragraph or maybe even a simple sentence that pretty much says what the original contributor had typed, without all the extraneous, exhaustive and more than likely: un-needed verbiage.

In fact I could have written this comment by simply asking the question, but I wanted to get a little more information than a "yes/no" answer (if patience and kindness of answer provider holds out!)

  1. 2 I hard copied the List of Weapon Upgrades for easy reference, but sometimes I need to refer back to GW wiki for clarification. Several items under the Inscription bonuses sub paragraph have a hot link i can click on just in case I want a bit more information (for instance cold damage, or blind or dazed conditions) while several do not have a hot link which leaves me again back to try to figure out if I'm understanding something correctly. For instance, comparing inscription "life is pain" and "man for all seasons" brings up this question for me: one simply says Armor +4..5 the other has a parenthesis and it is conditional : "man of all seasons" has Armor +4..5 vs. elemental damage. I just wanted to double check this: when I see armor +4..5 (life is pain) I have additional plus 4...5 armor from absolutely all other sources that could could trigger my character's armor into the damage calculators? From poison damage, to fire damage, to blunt damage, do I still have plus 4..5 armor factoring in to the damage calculators (when using life is pain inscription bonus is active or activated?)

Forgive the length of this question, I'm truly trying to get this definitively answered (or as best as the community can provide the answers) and maybe as I type and re-read some of the GW wiki pages I'll figure out exactly what my question is, and I think it has to do with this final question:

  1. 3 I am having confusion knowing when a weapon, inscription, spell, or skill refers to "ME" the character < OR > "THEM" the mob(s.) Sometimes I see a visual que "blindness" is black dots shooting out of a mob's eyes. Bleeding (on my character) is the light pink color change on the health bar. But often I have to take the word of the descriptors and that's where I become uncertain.

If I could get a bit of help with these questions, I'd be most grateful and appreciative. Thank you for your kind patience, I am new to the game and new to using the GW wiki system. Again the problem is knowing when the modification/condition applies to the bad guys, or applies to the heroes. Is there a GW wiki page that handles this information or are most people pretty much "getting it" and because of the way my brain has been wired, am I missing something that should be fairly obvious?

I wanted to again thank the GW community and especially those that are active workers, editors and managers for a great information resource for a truly amazing game. I am so pleased to have left WOW, as I find this game allows me to adventure "alone" as I wish- and not having to constantly try to get people coming from different maturity, social, and age differences, . Except for a couple of trouble

thank you, and sincerely, -C 67.166.133.81 18:18, 15 August 2008 (UTC)

  1. While you are enchanted.
  2. Unless specified, it's armour against all damage.
  3. Usually means you unless specified.

Hope that helped :)--Sum Mesmer GuyTalk to me NOW!! DO IT! contribs 12:07, 15 August 2008 (UTC)

First of all, respect for thinking so detailed about the game mechanics as a beginner, that doesn't happen very often ^^ Most conditions for bonuses are self-focussed, so "while enchanted", "while Health above 50%", "while hexed" etc. means always that you, as the user or beneficiary of the bonus have to fulfil that condition; if there are conditions for your enemy, it sounds like "vs. Hexed foes" or when countering damage, the damage type is often conditioned by "vs. <type> damage". As long as the conditions are fulfilled (or there are no conditions) the bonus applies. "Armor +5...10" means for example that your armor can increase by 5 to 10 (depending on the value on the inscription), resulting in the same effect as if you would have a 5-10 armor levels better armor equipped (it works on all armor pieces/damage zones).
The reason why we often do not link every single word is that we agreed on only linking the first occurence of a word, so if you wonder why the thing isn't linked you want to know more about, scroll a bit up and look for the word there.
Btw. when you don't understand a skill description's wording, try changing it to the "concise skill description" in the options window (F11); even if the concise description is shorter (or should be), sometimes its wording is a bit more clear. poke | talk 15:50, 15 August 2008 (UTC)

mods to the Charrslayer Scythe

I’m adding mods to the Charrslayer Scythe, for charr hunting only. I have customized it +20%, and add “strength and honor” +15%.

I can use the monk skill “judge’s insight” or Ele skill “conjure lightning” or other skill, For the most damage per hit should I add the mod shocking, sundering, vampiric, or other mod?

What is the best setup for charr hunting with the Charrslayer Scythe? Thanks for your help! --206.255.6.169 01:46, 3 September 2008 (UTC)

Warriors generally have +20 armor vs. physical damage and rangers generally have +30 armor vs. elemental damage. What elite are you planning on using? Where are you farming Charr? -- Gordon Ecker 03:38, 3 September 2008 (UTC)
(Merged)
I’m open to suggestions on the elite skill, most of the time I use “Avatar of Lyssa” or “Wounding Strike”. I was going to Charr farm ::in eye of the north, do you have a suggestion on the best location?--206.255.6.169 05:01, 3 ::September 2008 (UTC)
Could you be more specific? If you're farming in Sacnoth Valley, you might want to consider using a Siege Devourer. -- Gordon Ecker 05:37, 3 September 2008 (UTC)
Well, looking at your Elite and weapon, I'd assume you're a Dervish. :P
If you're looking for a build, you should check [PvXwiki]. There are many farming builds there.
Based on your build, you should figure out easier what upgrades your weapon might need (if it you're gonna inflict Poison, than a Poisonous would be useful; if you're gonna inflict Weakness, get a Heavy upgrade; if you're gonna use many adrenaline attacks, get a Furious upgrade instead; and so on; if you're gonna heavily use IAS, a Vampiric could come in hand... really, depends on your build).
Personally, for Dervish, I prefer "Guided by Fate" over "Strength and Honor" cause my Dervish is almost 100% enchanted with Faithful Intervention... but that's just a matter of what build I run (and I'm not a really fan of farming...) --NIN37 07:04, 3 September 2008 (UTC)

Problems With My Account

NPCs are buggy

Certain human NPCs have developed a glitch where they constantly move in a repeated "run and jump" movement. The glitch has affected NPCs in all areas of the game (towns, outposts, explorable areas, cooperative missions, etc.) and will manifest in allies, enemies, henchmen and quest NPCs. It doesn't interfere with their ability to fight, take damage or die, but they will die in either a standing position or continue the same movement. About 15-20% of NPCs are buggy, including merchants, Xunlai agents, Henchmen Cynn, Herta and Eve, some enemies and various quest NPCs. Another note is that buggy NPCs will also show the glitch in quest cinematics. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Helice 22:37, 3 September 2008 (UTC)

Firstly, please sign your comments by typing ~~~~.
I can't see any problem with NPC movement. It could just be a small corruption in your Guild Wars installation. Firstly try repairing your guild wars by running the Gw.exe with the -repair command line argument. If that doesn't solve the problem try deleting the gw.dat file, this will force Guild Wars to re-download everything hopefully correctly. If that doesn't work try a full un-install and re-install.- TheRave User TheRave sig.jpg 21:42, 3 September 2008 (UTC)

It's just a base part of the game. Having the limited level cap adds challenge, as well as making it simpler to hit max level. There are 3 possibility's to get to the eye of the north.

Access to GW:EN is via quests given by:

You have to check your questlog if you have the quest allready called;

By having "installed eye of the north" you mean you've added that serial key to your account?
(sorry if I sound mean, just want to make sure you actually have access to Eye of the North before trying to get there)
If so, check Campaign travel for quick info on how to travel between campaigns (info on NPC, Outpost and Quest).
Whenever you're eligible to travel to another campaign (by having adding the required games to your account), you'd get a in-game announcement telling you to go speak to the appropriate NPC in order to travel there. --NIN37 10:47, 5 September 2008 (UTC)
Note that you only get this message when you're in one of the three main cities (Lion's Arch, Kaineng Center, or Kamadan), depending on which campaign your character started in. I'm pretty sure that, for Eye of the North access, this message will pop up in any of the three, regardless of which campaign your character is native to. --User Tero Gein sig.jpgtero 11:31, 5 September 2008 (UTC)

Under the compass (default location is the top-right of your screen), you'll see a little flag icon that looks like a green flag with 3 white dots under it. Simply click on that, then click either the ground where you want to flag your henchmen, or on the mini-map (the "U" map), and your henchmen (and heroes) will stay close to that area. Sure, if player has both Prophecies and Nightfall, it would be possible to get to the Desert from The Desolation...
But, IMO, discussing something like that would be a bit off-topic, since that's not what original post was asking to start with...
And visiting Desert's outpost is requirement for The Hero's Journey, which does not belong to this quest-chain (Preceded by/Followed by).
Sorry, but we can't really help unless question get updated with info like where the character was created (Prophecies, Factions, Nightfall), what missions have been done (at least name a few ones, like Sanctum Cay or Augury Rock), what attribute quests you're talking about (you can only take the ones from the campaign you created your character on), and so on... --NIN37 11:01, 7 September 2008 (UTC)
Quest for additional attributions in Prophesies are only available for characters made in Prophesies. --Silverleaf User_talk:Silverleaf 13:03, 7 September 2008 (UTC)

Thank you and yes, my mistake, I have completed the game, been ascended and all. I only have Prophecies and the quest, the forgotten ones leads to the attribute quest, the forgotten wisdom. It was also my mistake, I meant the arid sea instead of desert. The quest starts in Destiny Gorge to the Arid Sea. Thanks again--69.215.155.145 15:03, 7 September 2008 (UTC)

Then hopefully the answer is that you have already done the Forgotten Ones and accepted the reward from Sariss Yassith but did not take the next quest, Forgotten Wisdom, from him. I would go back to him and see if he has the quest for you. -- Inspired to ____ 16:53, 7 September 2008 (UTC)

It's brand-new; I would expect most stores won't have it in stock yet. Or, if they do, they'll be selling out of whatever stock they do have first. You could ask at a store, if they have newer boxes in the back, perhaps... or, spend the five bucks to get the 2008 version from the in-game store, if you want the Stone that badly (I personally wouldn't bother spending the money for an item that's only useful for a little while before you hit level 20).
By your logic, it's also unfair that I didn't buy the Factions Collector's Edition, and because of that I don't have access to the Collector's Edition dances. If you look at everything that way, then the whole world's unfair. Be happy with all the good stuff you do get. --User Jioruji Derako logo.png Jïörüjï Ðērākō.>.cнаt^ 23:33, 7 September 2008 (UTC)

PvP Perma SF

I'm complaining because in the past hour or so in PvP on the luxon side of Fort Aspenwood theres a gruop of assassins who have Perma SF by useing messmer skills on eachother. It's brilliant I will say but very unfair in PvP because there unstopable untill they fianly run out of energy...but uasly by that time we have lost.74.183.3.19 21:40, 7 September 2008 (UTC)

Chilblains, Signet of Disenchantment, Well of the Profane, Hex Eater Vortex, Expunge Enchantments, Grenth's Aura, Rending Aura, and Winds of Disenchantment can remove shadow form. Additionally, shadow form only stops attacks and spells that target the person - Point blank AoE spells, such as Inferno, will hit them, and other skill types such as signets and touch skills will go right through. ¬ Wizårdbõÿ777(talk) 22:07, 7 September 2008 (UTC)
Yes, but if you're a regular player who only uses viable skills, you don't have access to the ones you listed. There's nothing you can do about shadow form, unfortunately the geniuses at anet thought having invincibility might be a good idea in a game based on living. ~Shard User Shard Sig Icon.png 22:20, 7 September 2008 (UTC)
But on that note, I'm just guessing that those perma-SF 'Sins have really shitty damage output? Considering that they need just about all of their energy to maintain Shadow Form. Isn't it possible to simply cap around them? The whole thing sounds really gimmicky, just like the 55 Monks that occasionally wander into AB.
Anyway, do you know exactly what skills they used? There's nothing much we can do about it (we're just regular players like you), but know thy enemy applies to everyone. If they start showing up on a regular basis, and always win, then definitely invest in some non-targeting enchantment removal. Or traps. Or PBAoE spells. --User Jioruji Derako logo.png Jïörüjï Ðērākō.>.cнаt^ 23:29, 7 September 2008 (UTC)

Theres like 3 of them and they take a wile to kill but they kill Guntar really fast therefore making us loose b4 we get a chance.74.183.3.19 23:34, 7 September 2008 (UTC)

I see the problem now. They're basically just keeping SF up and slipping through the doors behind amber runners, am I right? If you can figure out what skills they use, perhaps it's something that Izzy needs to fix in a skill update. Never would have thought that the PvP version of SF would ever need a nerf... but I'm guessing they figured out some synergy with Arcane Echo, Shadow Form, and Arcane Mimicry on the teammate's SF to get more then two copies of SF on the bar at the same time. --User Jioruji Derako logo.png Jïörüjï Ðērākō.>.cнаt^ 23:40, 7 September 2008 (UTC)

mou, so... if I understand correctly, you created the Templates folder yourself. btw, I have Vista, and to my surprise, the default folder for GWs templates is NOT where it was when I had XP. It's actually C: => Users => (your username) => Documents => Guild Wars => Templates (the default Screens folder in Vista is also there). I'm pretty sure if you created the templates folder where it would normally be in XP it won't work. changing second profession

In the desert area (after some quest) i get the possibility to change the secondery proff. but can i change back again if i dislike the choise? can i change more than once?

NB. what the he... does WIKI mean? i see it often, but (maby because im Danish) have no clue what it stands for --80.198.78.231 22:09, 9 September 2008 (UTC)

I'm assuming that you asked both questions? As far as secondary professions go, yes, once you ascend (after you did the Augury Rock mission and defeated your Doppelganger), you can freely change secondary professions whenever you want. If your character is native to Tyria, then you can take the various quests to unlock the other secondary professions. If your character is native to Cantha or Elona (I'd assume not, since you were able to change your secondary after finishing Augury Rock), then you have to pay 500 Gold per profession at a profession changer for each of the secondary professions. However, after you pay once, you don't have to pay for that profession again. For example, you started off as a W/Mo, paid 500 Gold to change to W/E, then wanted to change back to W/Mo, you wouldn't have to pay again.
To answer your other question, "WIKI" stands for "What I Know Is". Wikipedia is the basis for all of these game "Wiki's". Hope that helps! --User Tero Gein sig.jpgtero 22:35, 9 September 2008 (UTC)
You're wrong on the second part, for the most part. Use dictionary.com. Wikiwiki is a Hawaiian word for quickly. Also see Wiki on Wikipedia. calor (talk) 00:01, 10 September 2008 (UTC)

Once you've "unlocked" a 2nd profession for your character (you choose one at Pre-Searing and can get the other ones after ascending), you can freely change it by using the drop down menu at Skill (K) window (just like adding/removing skills to your build, this only work on towns and outposts).
Check Profession and Profession changer for more info. --NIN37 00:16, 10 September 2008 (UTC)

Should I even bother to buy the expansions?

Hello, I still have prophecies and havent really gone far in the game (thanks wow). I was reading articles about guild wars 2 coming out, and i was wondering should I bother buying nightfall, factions and eye of the north? --The preceding unsigned comment was added by User:Branlord (talk).

If you're really into the story and want to see what will happen in GW2, I'd say yes. That way you'll know everything thats going on. However, if you feel that you're having fun with just one campaign, just stick with that one. --User Wandering Traveler Oie User Wandering Traveler Sig2.png Wandering Traveler 23:59, 9 September 2008 (UTC)
If you want the connecting story to GW2 then get the only expansion: Eye of the North. The two standalone campaigns (Factions and Nightfall) do contribute slightly to some things that occur in EotN but you can pick that up without having to buy them. In my opinion, buy them all, because all together they offer such a vast game and the more you own the easier it is finding adequate builds, that said, if you only want one then EotN is for you.- TheRave User TheRave sig.jpg 00:11, 10 September 2008 (UTC)
Honestly? If you like Guild Wars, buy them all. :D
Lot's of stuff to do (Quests/Missions, Titles, 15k-Armor, Heroes, PvP/PvE, etc), so many skills to use (and create unique builds), access to other professions (Factions' Assassin and Ritualst; Nightfall's Dervish and Paragon), various unique weapons to collect and many other achievement to keep you busy. ;)
But, if you don't plan to get Guild Wars 2 and/or are just not sure you'd still be playing Guild Wars for more than a few months, maybe it's just not the right game for you. :P
My suggestion would be: keep playing Prophecies for a while. If you think you might want to get something else from the game, try buying another campaign (since there's no monthly fees, you can give Guild Wars a break every so often if you just don't feel like playing it).
Also, like it's name suggests, Guild Wars is funnier when you have some Guild-mates to play with (it's not that hard finish the game with just the help of Henchmen... but it's a bit more boring...) --NIN37 00:34, 10 September 2008 (UTC)
If you couldn't be bothered to even finish Prophecies until now, I don't see why you're even considering Factions and Nightfall, since it's obvious Prophecies couldn't capture your interest for long. You might consider the Hall of Monuments in Guild Wars Eye of the North to be somewhat beneficial if you plan on getting GW2. -- ab.er.rant User Ab.er.rant Sig.png 07:46, 11 September 2008 (UTC)
Or, if you do decide to get GW2 and do enjoy that, Anet's stated that players can go back and get any Hall of Monument achievements later. So you can always wait and buy the other games and EOTN later. Otherwise, I second what Ab.er.rant said. 75.146.48.190 20:32, 11 September 2008 (UTC)
Also, keep in mind that it is going to be some time yet before GW2 is released. You may want to play your way through Prophecies and see how you feel about it when you are finished. If the game has managed to capture your attention and provided you with hours of enjoyment, you may want to get another then. --Wyn's Talk page Wyn 20:37, 11 September 2008 (UTC)

Also, weapon upgrades cannot be applied to armour. You might want to check out the Rune or Insignia pages for things that can be put on armour. --Dragon nataku 18:46, 11 September 2008 (UTC)
Hm... excuse me, what weapon are you exactly trying to upgrade? Maybe if you give us a bit more details we could assist you better.
Just an example, if you're trying to get a Cruel Axe of Fortitude, you'll have to get a Cruel Axe Haft + an Axe + an Axe Grip of Fortitude (probably your Axe will already have one of the two upgrades, though, so you might want to just upgrade it with the missing one).
To get such upgrades, you'll need to Salvage the from another Axe (chances are you won't find a good weapon with both upgrades the way you want, so you'll probably need to "build" one using parts from different Axes...).
At the beginning of the game you'll have to use Expert Salvage Kit in order to extract upgrades from a weapon (basic Salvage Kits will destroy the weapon).
Also note that you need to use the correct type of upgrade for your weapon (you can't add a Sword Hilt to an Axe, for example).
Same happens to Runes and Insignias. You can't add a Warrior Rune to a Ranger Armor (you can't even use/craft armors of another profession either, so most Runes and Insignias are tied to your choice for Primary Profession).
Being a bit off-topic, if you're just starting the game, you should not worry too much about weapon right now. It's completely possible (but a bit hard/frustrating) to beat Prophecies using a Starter Weapon (same doesn't happen to the Armor, though). :D
Oh, and, like ab.er.rant said, some weapons cannot be upgraded (unique weapons, for example, can't be modified -other than customized- and Fiery Dragon Sword will only accept ). --NIN37 01:52, 12 September 2008 (UTC)

It entirely depends on what build you're going for, really.- VanguardUser-VanguardAvatar.PNG 00:44, 12 September 2008 (UTC)
I personally think it's a good idea to have all, or at least most, secondary professions unlocked on all characters as soon as possible. The beauty of Guild Wars is your ability to synergize skills from different professions by being creative with your skill choices. And, in order to do that, you need to have access to as many skills as possible. What's nice about Prophecies is that you can complete certain quests to unlock the secondaries...in Factions and Nightfall, you have to pay 500 Gold as a one-time fee for each profession once you ascend. --User Tero Gein sig.jpgtero 00:57, 12 September 2008 (UTC)
You forget the major expensiveness (real word? It's 1am cut me some slack), after gaining a few builds it starts to cost 1k a skill. And the game doesn't give a damn that you may be starting a secondary from scratch and have a limited selection off the bat. Sorry, Might take you 2-8k just to get a few skills.
IMO, I say stick with 1-3 builds with a character. If you get rich off your ass later, THEN buy more mess.- VanguardUser-VanguardAvatar.PNG 05:40, 12 September 2008 (UTC)
If you're playing Prophecies, I'd say you should take all 4 secondary profession quests (you can't take Necromancer nor Mesmer, cause you already had those when you got to Post-Searing).
You'll receive some gold from them (1k each)... But don't rush getting skills right away (there are some quests that will give you some basic Skills).
Later, if you decide to try out some new builds, you might want to buy required Skills that you could be missing, but, like Vanguard said above, try to stick to just a few builds (at least at the beginning). Try not to waste too much money on skills you will never use (for example, I doubt a Necrmancer would use any Bow Attack skill). ;) --NIN37 12:47, 12 September 2008 (UTC)
Vanguard, don't forget about the skill quests available in Prophecies...those give free skills AND cash to spend. I'm not saying immediately unlock all the secondaries and go wild buying all the skills you can (you'll probably run out of skill points before cash at first anyway), but at least have the flexibility to be able to buy skills that you may want/need.
Basically, it all comes down to play style. When I first started, if I was having a hard time in an area, I changed my build around and bought some skills to adapt to the situation. Really, the game makes it pretty easy to obtain an adequate amount of money through quests and missions, so getting 120-140 skills on your character shouldn't be that big of a problem. (about 170 are available through skill quests alone). Like Vanguard and NIN37 said, don't buy the garbage skills, just buy the ones that you think might help. --User Tero Gein sig.jpgtero 16:56, 12 September 2008 (UTC)

You can donate to the opposite faction by using faction for Jadeite/Amber at the respective capitol city, though it is much slower than donating to your alliance. --Wyn's Talk page Wyn 15:49, 12 September 2008 (UTC)
Actually, iirc donating the other side's faction, what ever amount empties out the other side's completely. And after you get to rank 1, you can buy skills for 3k faction and earn double the points.
You can also donate in guild halls that you are a guest of, but not the 5k alliance option. 75.146.48.190 21:26, 12 September 2008 (UTC)

I was wondering if its ok that i used those points?--The preceding unsigned comment was added by User:66.49.50.251 (talk).

The main purpose of skill points is to use them to purchase new skills. As your character develops you will find you will need more and more skills for different builds/uses, the skills points are there to allow you to buy/cap those new skills. If you keep playing you will find you hardly ever run out of skill points as you get them every 15,000 Experience points. Another use of skill points is to buy Consumables in Eye of the North, but you will probably get to that later.- TheRave User TheRave sig.jpg 21:05, 14 September 2008 (UTC)
There are also many skills available from quests in Prophecies that you should get even if they don't seem to pertain to your build now, that won't cost you skill points. Remember, skill points are different from Attribute points. You only get 200 total attribute points, but the number of skill points you can earn is unlimited. --Wyn's Talk page Wyn 21:25, 14 September 2008 (UTC)
Just to give you an idea, I've captured all 350 290 elite skills (costing 1 skill point each, not counting the 4 "common" elite skills), and I still have more skill points than I know what to do with. Don't worry about spending a few extra points here and there, mistakes happen. --User Tero Gein sig.jpgtero 01:59, 15 September 2008 (UTC) (EDIT: Oops, wrong number of elite skills XD)
Unless you really go all-out buying skills early, I'm going to say it's a save bet you'll never have to worry about running out of Skill Points. I'm busy trying to buy tons of skills for my Ranger (already have nearly every Ranger skill), and he still has 89 points to spare.
Also worth noting (I'm surprised nobody else mentioned it); Skill Tomes. You can use a Skill Tome to gain skills you've unlocked already; it's not too hard to earn up Balthazar Faction and unlock the skills in PvP arenas, so that's a simple way to go about it. You also don't spend Skill Points in that way. And especially useful is the price; buying skills from the Skills Trainer goes up in price each time you buy, and caps out at 1,000g per skill; you can generally buy Warrior Skill Tomes from other players for about 300g. So long as you have the skills unlocked, it's much cheaper. --User Jioruji Derako logo.png Jïörüjï Ðērākō.>.cнаt^ 12:03, 15 September 2008 (UTC)
