Poisoned Outcrops asking 2 x Margonite Masks per gift - Raxous - 16:09, 8 June 2009 (UTC)
- this posting has been confirmed under the lower heading in this section (needs confirmation) MrPaladin talk 17:14, 8 June 2009 (UTC)
I Can't see him there.
- I have edited the page to add in a bug report, which was confirmed by myself and a guild member. If you have the quest called The Hallowed Point active in your quest log, Nicholas and Yakkington won't appear at the location in the Poisoned Outcrops. Make sure you ditch this quest before you head out to fight all the way there.--Bunny - Angel talk 17:35, 8 June 2009 (UTC)
- I thought I should add, others believe that holding the quest called The Cold Touch of the Past, which is the preceding quest to The Hallowed Point, also prevents Nicholas from spawning. I haven't updated the main page for this, however, because I have not confirmed it for myself and can't vouch for the information directly. --Bunny - Angel talk 17:39, 8 June 2009 (UTC)

Sylvari connection?
Are we supposed to find out later that Ronan somewhat stumbled on Nicholas' secret gloom seed cache? Jaxom 18:54, 25 May 2009 (UTC)
- So um, would you really want to grow something from a seed with a 'gloom' prefix? Hey, I'm in a world where plants try to kill me, hey cool it dropped a seed, time to grow another! Aro 19:33, 25 May 2009 (UTC)
- Wel, Nicholas says he intends to plant them. And besides, maybe such a pant can grow up to be good, wise and more nicer than the Fissure versions with the proper care and, uhm, Dolyak du... fertilizer. ;). Satrek 21:08, 25 May 2009 (UTC)

- @Jaxom, there could be a link. "The Sylvari have an innate bond with plants, and each other. They call this the Dream of Dreams. However, concealed within the Dream of Dreams are nightmares, something which the Sylvari do not yet understand."

When you go to the falls you go trough the VENTARI'S REFUGE outpost...hint...hint
- Sry Guys, you're a bit late, for those of you who have Eye of the North, read on, for those of you who don't and want to spoil a little tid-bit, you're bad people but go ahead, lol joking, anyways: In Arbor Bay, close to center, in the dead center of all the wind rider patrols, there's a small hill with some Krytans in and other tents, etc. on it. Among them is a very familiar peaceful centaur, and his ex-Shining Blade friend, should you travel to this place to pay them a visit, you'll find that they're tending a plant, just don't go in Hard Mode or you'll be attacked by the Sanctuary Guards. Lord Zepherr June 4, 2009, 16:49 (UTC)
- Lol, sry, Zepherr, I think people were just joking around. ;) Rose Of Kali 05:56, 5 June 2009 (UTC)
You're mixing several timeframe as Eye of the North is set several years AFTER Prophecies... From The Movement of the World:
- While humans explored the Far Shiverpeaks and the Dwarves fought the Destroyers, a new race began to grow in the southern lands of Tyria. A single seed as big as a man's fist, planted in the ground of a ruined village along the southern tip of the Maguuma Jungle, began a centuries-long gestation—and heralded a new age.
- This story began with a human soldier named Ronan whom, while separated from his patrol, discovered a cavern filled with strange seed-pods. This cavern was protected by terrible plant creatures, so he fled, clinging to a single seed to show his daughter when he returned home from war. But, upon his arrival, Ronan discovered the Mursaat had destroyed his village and murdered his family, leaving only ruined houses and mass graves. In agony, he planted the seed on their graves and swore never to return to battle.
Of course only future Nicholas dialog and GW2 source material (possibly some of the GW books too) will give us hints if we were actually part of the coming of the Sylvari into this world. It could be just some random Maguuma plant too... Jaxom 07:02, 5 June 2009 (UTC)
- Also, most descriptions of the Sylvari make them out to be a pretty happy and innocent race, not exactly the type of thing one would expect to grow out of a "Gloom Seed", right? (Satanael 16:02, 5 June 2009 (UTC))
- Nor something protected by terrible plant creatures ;) Jaxom 20:54, 5 June 2009 (UTC)
- Ever heard of roses? Grab one and you will bleed. The Sylvari could be the gloom seeds that have somehow absorbed parts of Ventari and his teachings (it says so on the GW2 article about Sylvari at least) since he lived and died near the tree. Maybe the plants we fight in FoW are corrupted Sylvari, the ones that have been exposed to Menzies. In that case, it would only be natural for the Sylvari in GW2 to have a hint of the evil that was in their "blood" centuries ago. I'm not saying that this is sure to be the seed that Ronan found, I'm just saying not to rule it out as a possibility :) Paddymew 19:42, 8 June 2009 (UTC)

Gwen connection?
So, has anyone brought Gwen in front of Nicholas/Professor? Is there an easter-egg dialogue between them like there is if you bring her in front of her mother? (Satanael 20:57, 29 May 2009 (UTC))
- O_o. Hm. I usually have Gwen in my own hero list in our pair that ususally does Nicholas stuff, and I haven't noticed anything. --Star Weaver 21:09, 29 May 2009 (UTC)

- I think the connection with Gwen is that he knew her before the searing, and he heard that she was alive. So a get-back-together and catch-up-for-lost-times party is in order. At least for me. Bbounty. You are reading this. Click. 13:32, 1 June 2009 (UTC)

Countdown
Heh, haven't been paying any attention to the talk for this stuff for a week or so, so I just noticed the new countdown widget someone put up and that's just awesome. Hope it staves off some of the early "He's in the middle of snake dance asking for 15 stellar core fragments!" edits.

- Howzabout changing the code to {{event time|15:00|Trading in Nick's new location}}, which would translate to, Trading in Nick's new location has started.Tennessee Ernie Ford 15:28, 1 June 2009 (UTC)
- Using a permanent timer is a really bad idea. The timer was made for big events where a multiple things happen in a short time. Using the timer on a normal article prevents that article from being cached by the server and especially for articles like this with a lot of visitors it is a really bad idea to stress the server unnecessary with something like this. If people are not able to read the first sentences on this page to find out that he always changes his location at a fixed time and use that time to get an idea of if he already has moved or not, then it is really their own fault. poke | talk 15:33, 1 June 2009 (UTC)
- I would agree with poke, I don't see a reason for the timer on the article. It's pretty clear when he moves. So I am removing (again) the timer. -- Wyn 02:41, 8 June 2009 (UTC)

- We have a wee clock, at the top of the page, which tells you the current time in UTC. Nicholas's article page also tells you what time he moves at in UTC. Based on those previous statements one must ask why we then need any more time zones listed beyond that? If one can not tell the difference between what time it is at the top of the page and what time is states on the article, then surely those people have more to worry about than when Nicholas moves, for example learning how to tell the time. -- Salome 13:40, 8 June 2009 (UTC)

- That's true, but then you don't have any problem with understanding UTC times on an article. One would expect those who do have an issue with it, to leave the clock turned on, to aid them. I keep it on myself as I'm a bit crap with BST and GMT at times. -- Salome 13:46, 8 June 2009 (UTC)

About the Hallowed Point bug.
Had the quest active in the quest log. Traveled to the location, Nicholas was not there. Went back to Lair of the Forgotten to abandon the quest, then went back. Strangely enough Nicholas is still not there! Have no other quests active in this zone. Is he gone forever? Wow this is some bug, now can't get any gift at all.
UPDATE: I just discovered that you don't have to actually 'complete' the quest to get Nicholas to appear, you just need to do the required tasks. Meaning if you want to keep the quest active in your log without collecting the reward, you may do so (useful for mask farming with the powerful staff of mists). After carrying the staff to the Hallowed point, do not return to Buuran to collect the reward. Instead, map travel back to the Forgotten Lair and the 'Hallowed Point' object is removed and Nicholas appears. Afterwards you can abandon and take the quest again to get another staff of mists. Flipper 17:48, 8 June 2009 (UTC)
- Well, you might actually need to complete it. The second (I think) location for Nicholas required completion of the undead mission that took place in that area. (Can't test, since all characters I have in Nightfall have completed that chain.) Freedom Bound 17:51, 8 June 2009 (UTC)
- Sorry, to clarify, it was the third location, and that was just so you could actually get the item (juniper branches). So, not really related at all (but still a possible solution). Freedom Bound 17:53, 8 June 2009 (UTC)
- My guild ran into problems with this as well, abandoning all quests in the area worked. Not sure if this is relevant but perhaps multiple quests affect his spawn? 86.172.62.50 17:59, 8 June 2009 (UTC)

- The way I understand it is... If you have never done any of the quest chain, he will be there... If you have the quest but have not completed any part of it, you can abandon... but if you have completed the first part of the quest chain (the cold touch of the past) then you have to complete hallowed point as abandoning will not work with the touch of the past being complete... I cannot confirm or deny this from here however... I have never taken either quest... MrPaladin talk 19:17, 8 June 2009 (UTC)
- That is correct. I updated the sentence once again, hope it is clear now. poke | talk 19:58, 8 June 2009 (UTC)
- I think it should be referred to as a 'bug' since it refers to an unexpected behavior or event not planned for in the game. The fact it also requires the player to either complete or not complete an unrelated quest chain to allow for an unrelated object to appear is also indicative of a 'bug'. Flipper 20:24, 8 June 2009 (UTC)
- No, I think it is not a bug simply because the quest replaces that location completely; there are different monsters as well, so it is not a bug to me. If you want to farm the Margonites there and you have the quest active (so they don't appear), it is not a bug either, just because the Margonites are not related to that quest.. poke | talk 22:48, 8 June 2009 (UTC)

How did Nicholas (and Yakkington) cross the Desolation?
In the immortal words of Palawa Joko, "only the dead and the demonic can walk the sulphur flats unscathed." Perhaps our old friend Nicholas is hiding something from us! (It's either that, or Nicholas managed to tame Queen Aijundu. No mean feat in itself!) I'm watching Nicholas with a much more wary eye now... - Zaxares 00:33, 9 June 2009 (UTC)
- I was wondering how he got over there myself but maybe he traveled south through the crystal desert, that is where he was last. -- Tenri 01:05, 9 June 2009 (UTC)
- Good point, Tenri. My girlfriend also pointed out that if he came via the Crystal Desert teleporter, there is a route that takes him to his current location without passing through any sulphurous areas. There's still the question of just how he managed to get past the Forgotten guard at the teleporter, but maybe he bribed him with some Gifts. (Anyone else remember the Razah gems incident?) - Zaxares 01:21, 9 June 2009 (UTC)
- How did Nicholas cross the Desolation? How did this nooby guy do it? How did the Elonians do it (those that made it to the Crystal Desert). All very good questions, but there must be some paths that allow for living people to cross it. -- Azazel The Assassin\talk 01:26, 9 June 2009 (UTC)
- In-game lore states that there are accounts of living people at Palawa's Bone Palace (or more accurately, during the time of Turai Ossa), which suggests that others in the past have managed to tame Junundu as well. I wouldn't put it past Turai to have managed the same feat, and used them to transport the pilgrims across the Desolation. (Alternatively, they could have just sailed there from Kourna to Amnoon Oasis. It's hard to say when Amnoon was first founded as a landing point for the Crystal Desert.)

- In the original Prophecies story, the elonian sailed there ; but this was retconned when Nightfall came out. The Elonian came through the Desolation following Turai and most died there though a few made it to the Crystal Desert. Additionnaly to the single Prophecies+Nightfall cross quest (to kill the scarab queen), there is another Nightfall quest that involve helping ghosts to regroup so they can reach someone who'll allow them to reach Augury Rock (cross-continent runner ? ^^) and those ghosts show up later just on your right outside of the northern exit of Augury Rock when the quest is completed. Jaxom 06:30, 9 June 2009 (UTC)
- I'm not aware of any pre-Nightfall source specifying how the Elonians reached the Crystal Desert. Elona Reach contains the remains of ships, and the outpost is described as being a former seaport, however I don't think it was ever described as an Elonian seaport. IMO the altitude of the high priests' burial sites relative to the Elona Reach outpost and the presence of salt-encrusted coral around them implies that it was no longer a port when the colony died out. -- 10:52, 9 June 2009 (UTC)

If you take the path from the Ruptured heart you do not need to get into a Wurm. No Sulfur crossings. But yea how did they get that far? NM I just read Cristal Desert > Crystal Overlook > Ruptured heart > Poisoned OutcropsNoggieca 13:03, 9 June 2009 (UTC)
- From the Crystal Desert page:
"Legends tell of a time, thousands of years ago, when the Crystal Desert was covered in water. These legends claim that it was the gods who raised the land, leaving it bare and empty in order to give the solitary creatures of the world a place to call their own. If the legends are true, humans were not among those for whom this land was made."
- So, there was no water when Turai came, because the land was lifted before Turai got there. Nonetheless, it is entirely possible that both the desert and the Desolation have changed a lot since Turai's time. Perhaps the sulfurous wastes were in different places, perhaps the margonites weren't around, certainly there would have been fewer of Palawa's minions, or at least they would have steared clear of Turai and his follower's, given Turai's triumph over Palawa.
- Anyway, I think there is a history of NPCs making it to places they "shouldn't" be able to. Xunlai Agents do it all the time (though less since the update that made the boxes the interaction point), same with collectors, merchants, henchmen, shrine NPC's like Ascalonian Refugees and other NPCs that seem to make it to the far reaches of nowhere, by themselves, past some of the most ridiculously badass creatures in this universe. My only theory is that Shadow Form is a far more common skill than we've been lead to believe... (Satanael 18:43, 9 June 2009 (UTC))
- Considering how many mysterious tonics Nick must have, I wouldn't be surprised if he just fed them to Yakkington till he turned into a Junundu and got there that way. Sadie2k 19:50, 9 June 2009 (UTC)

60min to cross a desert ;-) I read somewhere that the elonians that went to the crystal desert took apart their ships to build settlements. Certainly not all of the pilgrims walked once settlements were made, more like some went there by ship once it was established.--Justice 10:31, 10 June 2009 (UTC)
- In Thirsty River, the Ghostly Hero refers to the local architecture as being Margonite in origin. IIRC before Nightfall established the location of the Elonian homeland, there was quite a bit of speculation that the Elonians sailed to the Crystal Desert, but no conclusive evidence. -- Gordon Ecker (talk) 11:15, 10 June 2009 (UTC)

- For a brief timeline in it, everything based on the Mouvelian Calender year 175BE Margonites begin settling along the coast of elona. 0(Year of Exodus) crystal desert is formed, but so is the desolation. 174AE (notice how coincidental the date is with when the margonites arrived in the crystal desert) the forgotten move into the crystal desert. 868AE Turai Ossa leads his pilgrimage north to the desert. That just gives you the dates, continuity is already a huge issue. Thought someone might like a quick reference on the times though. 76.123.149.130 05:36, 12 June 2009 (UTC)

Based on the movement nicholas has made in the past few weeks, I'd estimate his next location has a high chance of being either somewhere in Istan, or near the Sunspear Sanctuary. Of course, this is jsut a guess, could be wrong. 24.20.244.189 03:14, 21 June 2009 (UTC)

I don't like the guessing game. Has anyone ever thought its possible that they programed him with a million possible spawn points and a million different request items? And the AI just randomly teleports there on its own at whatever time ANET decides to press the big, red button labled "F*** with players". It would explain why he doesn't always ask for items in the general area of where he's at, which explains why one of his canthan trips required Kournan quest items. --Rølin
- His dialog covered the crossover... the item he colelcts always relates to where he is at. not a completely random choice... but yes, the guessing at this point is silly until we see a trend or a repeat... unless your running a gambling house MrPaladin talk 13:04, 29 June 2009 (UTC)
- It's silly most of the time to try guessing his next location, but the current dialogue seems to directly point to Kryta as his next destination. Wait and see, I guess. The items are always directly tied to the location, though each location may have several items as a possibility, we don't know yet until he repeats a location/region with a different collectible. The weekly location may be a pre-programmed series, or may be completely random. If he is in Kryta next week, I'm going to say it's a pre-programmed series. Rose Of Kali 16:46, 29 June 2009 (UTC)
I think there is kinda pattern: If areas he is in has fairly challenging mobs to farm, he will ask for local trophy drop. If area has trivial mobs to farm (newbie areas and lowlevel lands) he will ask something more gimmicky - odd quest item or material or foreign collectible, basically, anything that would give at least a bit more challenge to get than running from group to group with hero or two and massacring foes.
Based on this i would predict as such:
Kryta - gimmick (uw trophy drop, imho) Istan - material S. Shiverpeaks - local trophy RoF - local trophy Luxon areas - local trophy RoT - local trophy Asuran Lands - local trophy Charr Homelands - local trophy Depths - local trophy

- It is interesting, and most of his dialogue has links to either internal or external "trivia" type notes, but I don't see a place where such would go, given the nature of the pages. Examples being this week's LotR similarity and last week's "internal" lore of Prince Bokka needing bribes (like in the Nightfall's mission). Freedom Bound 19:30, 22 June 2009 (UTC)
- How about on Nicholas the Traveler/Dialogue we add a trivia/notes section at the bottom listing all the trivia (with location name before it). And at the bottom of this page's trivia we can have "For all the trivia references from Nicholas' dialogue see [[Nicholas the Traveler/Dialogue#Trivia|here]]." An example of the listing would be "Zen Daijun: Nicholas' mentioned writing "There with Yakkington: A Traveler's Tale" is a reference to the book in Lord of the Rings titled "There and Back Again: A Hobbit's Tale." -- Azazel the Assassin/talk 20:01, 22 June 2009 (UTC)
- Well, the reason why I said that, is because the dialogue is transcluded onto the traveler page, so I don't know if it would break anything (I'm hesitant to touch any of this stuff after I broke the wiki a while back adding a campaign column to the research article). Maybe we can ask Poke if it will break anything. Freedom Bound 20:14, 22 June 2009 (UTC)
- I don't think it will break it, as long as we keep the trivia below the rest - seeing how the dialogue that shows on the page is what is above the rest. But yes, best find someone who knows the wiki better before changing anything. -- Azazel the Assassin/talk 20:16, 22 June 2009 (UTC)

Didn't they learn from last time?
So... Parchment. Rare material. Shoots up to eleventy bajillion per piece, completely out of stock of the traders, no one can buy any armour that week that requires parchment. Same thing happened with linen. Mistakes. Learn from them. 118.208.89.78 23:47, 22 June 2009 (UTC)

- @IP: Actually, it's not quite as bad as it was with Linen. I was in Lion's Arch a couple hours ago, and not only was there Parchment at the trader (220g a Roll), but there was Wood at the Common Material Trader (210g for 10). I think it's as bad as the Linen because you can salvage pretty much anything wooden and get the materials necessary to craft the Parchment, rather than needing Plant Fibers, which are a rarer drop. Elysea 23:57, 22 June 2009 (UTC)
- Erm, if you wait out the Mondays, the prices always drop tremendously as people figure out where to farm or craft the necessary. So, ppls buying armor are mebbe inconvenienced by a day. Parchment & wood were @3x prices a few hours after Nick appeared; by 6 hrs later, prices had dropped to maybe 50% more than last week. So, I would argue that the lesson is for players (not for ANet). - Even if the prices turned out bad, Nicholas' collection items were pre-made. It's not like they manually change what he asks for every week. When they programmed the Linen, they programed every other item he takes. So even if there was a lesson to learn, they wouldn't change Nicholas unless they went and reset his rotation while changing the few rare material items. -- Azazel the Assassin/talk 13:04, 23 June 2009 (UTC)

- As long as it's 1 DSteel per gift, or maybe 2, that's reasonable. It currently costs like 700g to craft one of them in "low" time, just imagine what these would spike to if Nick collected them. Rose Of Kali 14:59, 25 June 2009 (UTC)

Supply vs. demand. Having the price of something jump up can be a good thing too, ya know? If the market gets flooded with too much of one thing, then it becomes worthless. Case in point, if all of a sudden it began snowing golden snowflakes worldwide, for days...the price of gold could/would drop so far that it would no longer be a standard of wealth and world markets would go into a panic. So, for a week (actually, much less) the price of parchment rises. You should have bought some when it was low, and sold high while you had the chance. Ergo, it is not a mistake to use rare materials for the Traveler. The same goes for all collector trophy items, which are almost all 'worthless' until the demand from the Traveler raises their value. Doing this is a smart, and stimulates the trade market.--209.194.208.116 15:01, 29 June 2009 (UTC)
- I'm not sure how your example applies to in-game economics, and I fail to see how because of snowing golden snowflakes , the cost of gold would drop and the economic market would crash. It hasn't been proven that these golden snowflakes are made of gold. It could be a lighting effect, spray-paint, or something along the lines of "Don't eat the yellow snow” kind of thing. It is also currently unknown how much of these golden snowflakes of yours fell during a given time period. As stated, it could be a millimeter or it could possibly be measured in feet/meters. So the measure of impact on the current economy can not be deduced, there-by making the statement/example null. -Drakora 16:42, 30 June 2009 (UTC)

NM Vs HM?
Gifts havent really been out too long and I dont find my results sufficient enough. But is it possible that recieving the gifts in HM as opposed to NM increases the gifts worth/value? Like it being relative to getting a better "drop rate". (Hope that makes sense...) Any ideas? --Sol 09:06, 24 June 2009 (UTC)
- My idea is that the drop rates of gifts aren't influenced by HM, else there should have been 2 kinds of gifts from Nick, like Gift of the Traveler and Uber-Gift of the Traveler. xD-KlinH4xx0r
- I doubt that the mode of the game determines the drop rate. Similar to Birthday Presents, Lucky Charms from the Canthan New Years events, presents from Wintersay, etc. The chances are fixed in gift items - or so I would assume. Items shouldn't be affected by NM or HM. I'd say that the more commonly found items just have a very high % drop rate compared to, say, mini Yakkington - which is probably a .5% chance or something. -- Azazel the Assassin/talk 02:42, 25 June 2009 (UTC)

Arborstone Rez Shrines
Currently, the fastest way to get to Nicholas the Traveler is by exiting Tanglewood Copse into the Arborstone (Explorable) with more Luxon than Kurzick faction points, all you need to do is simply die (As more Luxon than Kurzick points obtained, thus disactivating the closest shrine) and become ressurected at a neutral shrine, after, just go to the right down a corridor and he is in the cave. --The preceding unsigned comment was added by User:RSS122 (talk).

Nick Speaks
Thank you for collecting a pile of shitty stones to further my own personal profits, now run across two maps and collect more shit for my animal who's not even intelligent enough to know what the hell he's wearing, and come back again next week to kill and collect even more shit like you've been doing for the past 4 years. It's totally worth it, consumables and more .004% chance vanity items. This is, of course, something I would only ask marvelous heroes such as your selves to do. It's every veterans dream to repeat the same f'ing shit again and again and pray that one day the computer dart hits that miraculous .004%. Oh but don't tell anyone I said that, the zaishen and I are infact new and unique pieces of content; people actually existing in a mission outpost is new, isn't it? Yes, yes it is, and you will agree because Anet is wonderful and they said that I was an idea 3 years in the making, that alone means I am a worthy piece of content, and you'd better respect Anet for re-releasing the game with cooler, shinier currency. Also if any one of you complains I'm gonna go sheep-mode and tell you that you need to be quiet, because they're working on GW2, and because you don't know how hard it is to make a game. And that's all I'll say, perhaps I'll even be sarcastic and personally insult you, AND get away with it, so much for those silly wiki policies, who needs them, ha! If you'll excuse me I need to go update my journal with more entries about how I worked for 5 days straight or some such, pity-farming and all that.

- Yes, people who want everything given to them without actually having to DO something to get it simply don't fit Guild Wars. This isn't a game where you have certain "rights" whenever the people who made the game add new content that doesn't hurt you at all. If you don't want to explore new content, don't. It isn't illegal not to have done everything. Meanwhile, some of us like new stuff that doesn't remove anything from us, and feel that this is a nice addition to the game. Ideas for items he should collect, and to help the ingame economy.
I just had a wild idea. One week, [or for a longer period :)], the traveler should collect 5 ECTOS per a present, [or more :), like 20 :P]. I think that might help the ecto recover, even if it's a little bit. Though there might be the posibility that the ecto would drop, since people sell presents @ 5k ea, and many people have stacks of ectos. We'd have to see... 75.74.169.102 18:05, 11 July 2009 (UTC)
- Dumbest. Idea. Ever? Ectos would spike a little bit for a short while, as would the presents. And, most likely, very few people will be getting presents that week to beging with, it wouldn't be worth it for your 5 tonics or 10 fireworks that you get most of the time. That means that the presence of ecto in the game wouldn't change much, and the prices would bounce right back to where they were in a week or two. I would take that week as a needed break from farming Nick items and just wait for the next. Rose Of Kali 18:26, 11 July 2009 (UTC)
- no fool would buy 1 ecto for a freaking 0.006% chance at something worth anything, let alone 5 or 20. Ecto is plainly moderated by supply/demand. If your so worried about the price of ecto, spend your time instead on asking for a nerf of the cheep ecto farm builds (NOT the creditable ones that actually require a brain and skill). /agree Rose Of Kali, dumbest idea for an item.--Neithan Diniem 18:57, 11 July 2009 (UTC)
- Purchase price of ectos at the RMT has been between 4.4k and 5k for at least 10 weeks. That's just over 13% variability. If you're concerned about the materials market volatility, why not worry about Spiritwood (dropped over 40%, from 230gp to 130gp)? That took it out of the realm of profit-for-crafting to craft-at-a-loss. If you store cash in a commodity, expect to get burned from time to time. The Warren Buffets of GW are buying ectos now, which will drive the price up again without any government intervention required, allowing speculators to profit nicely. Tennessee Ernie Ford 20:21, 11 July 2009 (UTC)
- As I said before when Nicholas was in Zen Daijun, it seems - though a lack of evidence cannot support this - that all materials he takes can be crafted from common materials - to that comment, John Hargrove (the person who made Nicholas) said that my observation was wise (i.e., giving an implication that I am correct - though I won't say I am and that he meant that). -- Azazel the Assassin/talk 22:44, 11 July 2009 (UTC)

Just because ecto is worth less doesn't mean the economy is broken, gold is worth more, this is probably due to a crackdown on bots and rl sellers which means less gold is in the economy. <shrug> --Lemming 23:25, 11 July 2009 (UTC)
- And due to continued SF and 600/Smite farming. I think the main reason Anet is leaving those alone (despite all the whining and moaning) is because a nerf would suddenly and severely affect high-end market, ran exclusively with ecto. But yes, I do appreciate the bot crackdown, my gold coins are still worth something, yay! Rose Of Kali 05:48, 12 July 2009 (UTC)
- Yeah, if SF was to be nerfed already expensive weapons would become WAAAAAY to expensive, i mean most people in GW will never have more then 25k at one time, pretty much only dupers would be able to buy a q9 eternal sword, and @Neithan Diniem people already spend 5k on these presents, ive even sold some for 8k -- so people are more then willing to pay 1 or 2 ectos for that chance C4K3 Talk 17:54, 12 July 2009 (UTC)

- @cake- thats a rather odd comment... with my warrior alone (never touching shadowform) I've spent at least 500k plus on him... SF could vanish completely for all I care there are tons of ways to make cash that do not include SF... as for q9 eternal swords... its a vanity item just like any other... but anyway back to the gifts... People already buy the component items for gifts at about 3-5k per gift... people sell the gifts for about 5k... using ecto will not change this... (unless ya do somethign silly and make the gifts be 3 ecto per gift, in that case people will hold onto their ecto) MrPaladin talk 13:36, 13 July 2009 (UTC)
- Well, my point was kinda i remember seeing a post on guru, where one sold for WAAAY to many ectos, or armbraces, (kinda the same) and a mini vizu -- if SF was to be nerfed, prices were to go up, not to as much, but they would go up, so would ectos, but not as dramaticly, and the duper thing just came to my mind because i remember that somebody wrote "now we know who's been duping" C4K3 Talk 17:02, 14 July 2009 (UTC)

Nicholas the Butcher
Is it just my imagination or did Nicholas just send us all out to slaughter dozens of relatively innocent Tengu and bring back the scalps from their heads so that he could make a hat for his dolyak? And we went ahead and did it. I guess the Tengu Wars really weren't much of a surprise if most people in GW think like Nicholas. I suddenly sympathize with the Sensali.--Shai Halud 14:20, 13 July 2009 (UTC)
- Innocent? They're hostile. It seems like the humans and most of the Tengu are still at war. They attack random villagers, too. RandomJF 15:04, 13 July 2009 (UTC)
- Not really war, but skirmishes. When you say war, I'm sure you think of the Tengu Wars, however that only happened in Cantha - not Tyria. The only peaceful clan of Tengu is the Angchu (Talon's clan), the others are hostile. But that is mostly due to them being highly territorial and in the Caromi's case - pushed out of their lands for generations. Tengu, along with most other cultured races, despise humans due to the past events (and in some cases, current) of being oppressed in some way by humans (Tengu, Centaur, and Charr were all pushed out of their homes in Tyria; Elonian Centaurs were forced into slavery and forced off their lands; etc. etc.). That is, of what we know of history and via implications (not all said *mainly that about Tyrian Centaurs* are fact). -- Azazel the Assassin/talk 18:25, 13 July 2009 (UTC)
- Um, charr forced off their lands? No. They've been just fine in the Charr homelands trying to take the human lands. Haru 19:44, 13 July 2009 (UTC)
- In the past, the Charr lands also included the now Ascalon. You should read The Ecology of the Charr. Charr were not pushed off of all of their lands, but half of their land. -- Azazel the Assassin/talk 21:39, 13 July 2009 (UTC)

At least you can kill all the skelk in the area without encountering any other groups, except for a couple quetzel in the southwest (I'd recommend heading there first, since they'll sometimes kill-steal the skelk mobs). Psychiatric Analysis of Nicholas
It is evident that Nicholas seems to be suffering from a type of post-trauma disorders. The loss of his beloved Mary and his entire home has lead his brain on a course of trying to equalize the world with his own situation. He feels subconsciously that the rest of the world deserves loss. Consciously he thinks he is just asking other people to do favors for him, but this isn't the case. He is comforting himself with the slaughtering of life, it comforts him to "balance" out the equation of his loss. 68.193.113.198

- The offensiveness is not what "upsets" me (which, by the way, upset is a too general term, it deals with sad, angry, or annoyed - I am the later most), it's the uselessness and consistency that annoys me. Also, it is offensive - mainly to John Hargrove who made Nicholas. Though if he even cares is a different story.-- Azazel the Assassin/talk 20:02, 24 July 2009 (UTC)
- I'm sorry I forgot I was dealing with a bunch of babies. There's something explicitly wrong with getting upset over a non-offensive post on a talk page. 68.193.113.198

Stingray Strand, right when you walk out of Sanctum Cay, nothing else to fight, and there's a ton of em.
Well for me this was really fun. Tons of feathers/granite slabs and some white and black dye not to mention the runes. So thanks for showing me another easy farm :D.84.26.144.104 23:56, 27 July 2009 (UTC)
Nice to see fishermans haven and west kryta not so forgotten after all, i kinda like the way they are seldom travelled, makes it feel like GW has some wilderness left :), but lets have some in maguuma soon ;p. Shogun 15:44, 31 July 2009 (UTC)

- If you look at the previously established patterns, I think you will find it most likely that he is in Cantha, Boreas Seabed is my bet. KJZ 15:50, 27 July 2009 (UTC)

he might be somewhere in GW:EN again, as he has been there only twice, compared to other areas, hes been 6 times in kryta, 3 times in both cantha and elona, so he might be at north again, but who knows.
- If you take a look at the number of zones each chapter/expansion has, Proph has on average twice the number of areas the other chapters/expansions have. I would expect him to show up twice as often in Proph as any other chapter/expansion. KJZ 17:08, 27 July 2009 (UTC)

- Scoundrel's Rise (NM) is an easy area with lots of skales, I farmed there when getting the herrings for the Black Moa Chick quest. Any AoE specced lvl 20 character can just mop them up. 83.131.60.174 18:23, 27 July 2009 (UTC)
I just tried this and there were far more mergoyles than bogs...and I didn't see any groups of 6/7 bogs... what area are you talking about specifically? 65.184.76.241 18:46, 27 July 2009 (UTC)
- I assume your zoneing there from the mission and you'll have to fight past the mergoyles... but up near the shipwrecked boats you'll see larger groups of them... its best to zone into the other areas rather then back to the mission zone so that you dont have to fight past so many mergoyles and you can get tho's fins instead MrPaladin talk 18:49, 27 July 2009 (UTC)
Um. What? No, I'm not in the mission. And as for the rest of what you said, what? I asked for specific areas. "zone into the other areas" doesn't help, lol. I started from the Gates of Kryta outpost and went up and zoned into North Kryta Province, and there were just more mergoyles. Does the "reversing the skales" quest affect the number of Bogs? Maybe that's it. I'll have to look for the shipwrecked boats...65.184.76.241 18:54, 27 July 2009 (UTC) Ok, no matter which point I zone into Scoundrel's Rise from, there are no groups of 6/7 bogs, there are however a very high ratio of Mergoyles. I now have 6 mergoyle skulls to my 1 bog skale fin. There are more Bogs in other areas, like on the way to Nick. 65.184.76.241 18:58, 27 July 2009 (UTC)
- Ok rewording... enter Scoundrels from Gates of Kryta (outpost) in NORMAL MODE (thats why here is better then other places, soft targets) fight past the mergoyles to the spot on this map File:Scoundrel's Rise map.jpg marked Krytan chest... around that area you'll see a large concentration of Bog's... after killing them fight the few mergoyles and Zone in to Griffon's Mouth then zone back... rinse and repeat on the easy targets until you have all you need.. and you wont need an overly fancy build as the targets are rather soft unless your a melee MrPaladin talk 19:05, 27 July 2009 (UTC)
Thanks for the map and info. However I was in that area and the largest group of bogs I ever encountered was 3. usually there was just one bog with 2 mergoyles, or a large group of mergoyles. I'm wondering if my quest log is affecting it. 65.184.76.241 19:08, 27 July 2009 (UTC)
- yer the 1 bog with 2 merz is common... but I know theres larger groups then that, and I'm sure I didn't hardmode it when I was lookin for the moa... I'll check again this evening when I'm at my home PC MrPaladin talk 19:10, 27 July 2009 (UTC)
- Um... have any of you managed to get into the bog, as that's where the bog skales are? About a dozen of them. Rezone into Griffon's Mouth nearby, as suggested before. The bog is where the boss comes from during the quest that puts a bunch of undead there instead (taken from Captain Graywind, iirc). So, if you see undead, finish the quest or abandon it. Also, if you have the quests to travel to Kryta from Beacon's, finish those as well, as they will put undead in the whole area. Those are the only quests that would affect it. - I honestly think his spawning is just freaking random - programmed like his items in Pre, or the Zaishen Quests. The program gives more chance of picking an item which has not be used often. So there would be no way of figuring it out. I don't get why people think there is a pattern, except in a few rare instances (Crystal Desert->Desolation->Vabbi), nothing suggests there being a pattern. And those instances are not common enough to say there is a pattern. -- Azazel the Assassin/talk 09:53, 30 July 2009 (UTC)
