hello N of tab's socks are in a room together. What is the chance that atleast two of Tab's socks that are present in the room share the same birthday? 12:18, 7 October 2008 (UTC)
- Wow. Misery 12:18, 7 October 2008 (UTC)
- :o) N of tab's socks are in a room together. What is the chance that atleast two of Tab's socks that are present in the room share the same birthday? 12:32, 7 October 2008 (UTC)
- :o) The chance is equal to 365Pn divided by 365 to the power of n 12:33, 7 October 2008 (UTC)
- I question this, proof please. Misery 12:36, 7 October 2008 (UTC)
- :o) For n of Tab's socks to not share a birthday 12:42, 7 October 2008 (UTC)
- :o) Therefore the probability you are looking for is 1 minus this value. 12:43, 7 October 2008 (UTC)
- :o) A proof of this is as follows: 12:44, 7 October 2008 (UTC)
- :o) For the first sock, they can have any of the 365 days in a year as a birthday without sharing it with another. 12:45, 7 October 2008 (UTC)
- :o) For the second it is 364 divided by 365 13:02, 7 October 2008 (UTC)
- :o) And for the third it is 363 divided by 365 etc. 13:03, 7 October 2008 (UTC)
- :o) Now we have the series 365 over 365 * 364 over 365 * .... * (365 - (n-1)) over 365 13:04, 7 October 2008 (UTC)
- :o) Which is equal to 365! over (365-n)!*365^n 13:09, 7 October 2008 (UTC)
- :o) As n! over (n-r)! nPr, this is the same as 365Pn over 365^n 13:11, 7 October 2008 (UTC)
- I guess you owned me. Misery 13:22, 7 October 2008 (UTC)

Umm, how am I trolling? I was merely attempting to answer the users questions to the best of my ability. AFAIK I have not met any of the definitions of trolling.- TheRave (talk) 08:48, 9 October 2008 (UTC)
- It pretty much seemed to me like you were starting to make fun of him. Honestly, quoting the latin names of vegetables, if he doesn't understand pumpkin, how on earth can you expect him to disentangle that? Misery 08:58, 9 October 2008 (UTC)

- Fair enough. I only looked through some of his contributions not all of them, this was the one that leapt out. Anyway, I apologise if I seemed like I was trolling, the responses were not meant in anyway to make fun of him.- TheRave (talk) 09:12, 9 October 2008 (UTC)
- Oh I see, the part where he couldn't work out how to use a keyboard... Or understand the advice on how to sign. Strong evidence for comprehension of the English language there. Misery 09:14, 9 October 2008 (UTC)

- Oh I see. I don't really like the idea of creating a "shrine" for my characters, I hope this doesn't sound offensive but it seems a little self indulgent to me, but I'm happy to outline my characters to answer an inquiry. My "main" is a three year old necro who I am very, very slowly title hunting with, I only have two maxed titled so far, Sunspear and completeing Prophecies on normal mode. I don't take PvE that seriously and mainly just load up with H/H, sometimes with one other person and c-space semi-afk. I also farm a fair bit, I find it therapeutic. I've tried to find a use for all my PvE slots, my dervish became an underworld farmer, my ranger was a spider farmer/brawler, but I now do that with my necro for the added title points so I will probably spec him for PvP, my warrior and monk are specced and I recently deleted my ritualist because I ran out of things I wanted to do with her (I used to use her for FFFing, but I got bored of that) and remade a ritualist using "Misery" in the name and specced her as a flag runner, which is the role I most often fill in GvG. I also have two PvP slots which reroll relatively constantly. Misery 13:55, 9 October 2008 (UTC)

Hello
"...Arenanet may or may not have a problem with the way Auron is "representing them", but so far the wiki in general, including other sysops hasn't given a rat's ass what Auron says to you in game and my understanding is that Arenanet more or less decided to leave the running of this site to the community.Misery 13:06, 9 October 2008 (UTC) ". - You're welcome, I kind of figured you read it and didn't have any comment. Guess I archive too quickly, sorry bout that. I could link to my PvXwiki page but I don't for two reasons:
- 1)It's terrible,
- 2)Everyone here seems biased against PvXwiki. Misery 15:22, 9 October 2008 (UTC)

Also, if anyone happens to swing by, lets talk about formatting consistency before you scream at me for being terrible at guild wars or elitist because formatting consistency interests me greatly. hello Arnold Swiftspell 14:26, 13 October 2008 (UTC)
- hi Misery 14:27, 13 October 2008 (UTC)
Profanity link
GWW:NPA. "Editors should be civil when stating disagreements.". Definitions of Profanity:
- According to dictionary.com->Profanity:"2.profane conduct or language; a profane act or utterance.".
- According to Wikipedia->Profanity:Refer to Types of swearing.
1)"Additionally, editors are strongly discouraged from using profanity in comments to other contributors.". 2)"When in doubt, comment on the article's content without referring to its contributor at all. ".
3)"It is as unacceptable for anyone to attack a user with a history of foolish or boorish behavior, or even one who has been subject to disciplinary action as it is to attack any other user"..
Sentence 2) and 3) seems to get broken all the time. And "Editors should be civil when stating disagreements."(So, they can't be uncivilized?) should be explain is detail.
- "Editors should be civil when stating disagreements.": Guide to civil civil. Guidelines to a civil conduct which many bureaucrat breaks often. You can see Wandering Travelers contribute about his thought in civil(even put * on words).--ShadowFog 15:19, 13 October 2008 (UTC)
--ShadowFog 15:19, 13 October 2008 (UTC)
- From your guide to Civility:
- Petty examples of incivility:
- Belittling contributors because of their language skills or word choice.
- Fuck's just a word and it's all fucked up. Strongly discouraged is not forbidden and the ability to remain civil is not the only requirement to being a good bureaucrat. I don't see why you insist upon pointing out all the time that "many bureaucrats" swear. 2) has nothing to do with profanity as is 3), you can swear as much as you like without directly attacking a user. I truly believe swearing is appropriate over the internet because other forms of emphasis that are possible in real life are not possible in text and italicizing text simply doesn't cut it sometimes. Misery 15:41, 13 October 2008 (UTC)
- Profanity isn't against the rules. The few people who tried to disallow profanity also tried to disallow sarcasm and jokes (seriously, check the policy archives). Needless to say, their arguments were mostly fallacious and were thus shut down (that's a pretty good read btw - Dirigible was always awesome at countering bullet lists). If you've got better arguments than they did, go ahead and bring it up - maybe you'll manage to get support this time. Unless you can counter Dirigible's points, however, I don't think you'll get very far. -Auron 18:04, 13 October 2008 (UTC)
- We all admire bureaucrats that can solve problems without the use of profanity and swearing plus the entire community admires that kind approach. The use of swearing and profanity all it does is raise the tension between strangers and veterans alike that can inevitably lead to vandalism by IP's, by puppets accounts, in game harassment, misleading remarks, etc.--ShadowFog 19:15, 13 October 2008 (UTC)
- Actually, if I recall correctly like exactly 3 people gave a fuck when Auron swore at NoXiFy and everyone else was more irritated at NoXiFy bringing drama to the wiki over something so trivial. Auron seems to be held in relatively high regard, personally I have a mild dislike for him because he deleted my Buneary and Aipom :< Misery 20:13, 13 October 2008 (UTC)

Hello...yet again Misery
I see it as the question is to bait Shard, whether or not is to be true, if the IP hasn't realized why people rant, the ip is a little slow on the ball game.--ShadowFog 14:04, 2 December 2008 (UTC)
- I guess the question is, what is Shard trying to achieve? He seems to be taking the wrong approach, so far all he has achieved is that Izzy ignores everything he ever says, whether or not it has merit, and he gets himself banned occasionally. The IP's question is a valid one, but I doubt Shard would take it as anything other than bait. Look at his general discussion style, all salient points are ignored and he simply attacks weak points which are often barely relevant. If he gets backed into a corner he pretty much ignores everything that has been said. Opinions are quoted as facts very often with arbitrary decisions being portrayed as universal truth. I find all this highly amusing. My original question however was what exactly do you mean by "good try". I'm not really aware that I was trying to do anything. Misery 14:21, 2 December 2008 (UTC)
- Well, the post to izzy is about game stuff and the question from ip is just a way to deviate the topic, that's why I don't see the lack of consistency and thats why I said "good try". Shard,or any other user for that matter, explaining why they rant is just silly, isn't to express dissatisfaction of certain entity? Then why ask this question towards Shard and Shard directly if the objective isn't it the same, to express dissatisfaction of certain entity? In this case towards the game. If that much is obvious, why ask the question in the first place? It's better for Shard just to let this one slide.--ShadowFog 14:37, 2 December 2008 (UTC)
- And knowing shard, that answer and it's follow up discussion against the IP might escalate into another ban, either to Shard or IP.--ShadowFog 14:38, 2 December 2008 (UTC)
- To be honest, who are you to decree that Izzy should answer your question directly while you can answer the IP's for Shard? In any case who knows what the IP's motives are? Maybe he is actually curious, maybe he is trying to deviate the conversation or perhaps he is trying to provoke Shard into saying something silly to get him banned? The internet is a fascinating place full of many fascinating people for when you are bored at work. Misery 14:42, 2 December 2008 (UTC)
- Actually I'm a customer of Anet and so are you Misery, same goes to all of the GW players. We must deserve the right to ask this question as customer to a product. I don't know IP motives and in that I can quote you but to be on the safe side is better to ignore it. And yes, the internet is indeed full of interesting people! That much is true!--ShadowFog 14:47, 2 December 2008 (UTC)
- Actually as a customer you don't have any right to get a direct response from the lead game balancer. It's a privilege that was abused and has as a result, been largely rescinded for a majority of the gaming populace. Misery 14:54, 2 December 2008 (UTC)
- You got me there...well we could try and wait!(laughs) This is an example of what you mean. Did you see saw the "It's just a flesh wound!"? If it weren't for Kim Chase, he wouldn't even touch the skill(after a long time I reported the anomaly to Kim Chase)! From there I can interpret that this guy really doesn't pay attention to the wiki. Nice brainstorming session I might add. Im off to do something else with less CPU involve.--ShadowFog 15:12, 2 December 2008 (UTC)
- Tbh, balance is his prerogative, not bugs. Also I would have raged this wiki if I were him too. Sad that you leave me, I still have at least another hour of work. I've yet to see anyone willing to do his job that makes fewer retarded mistakes than he does, so I just wish that things hadn't gotten to the point where he was forced to largely ignore the community. Be nice if there was a better and willing candidate. Ah well, I only play GW these days when someone calls me for something on msn anyway, otherwise it's other games or other non-game related things. Misery 15:20, 2 December 2008 (UTC)

That much is true!--ShadowFog 14:47, 2 December 2008 (UTC)
- To be honest, who are you to decree that Izzy should answer your question directly while you can answer the IP's for Shard? In any case who knows what the IP's motives are? Maybe he is actually curious, maybe he is trying to deviate the conversation or perhaps he is trying to provoke Shard into saying something silly to get him banned? The internet is a fascinating place full of many fascinating people for when you are bored at work. Misery 14:42, 2 December 2008 (UTC)
- And knowing shard, that answer and it's follow up discussion against the IP might escalate into another ban, either to Shard or IP.--ShadowFog 14:38, 2 December 2008 (UTC)
- To answer your question, yes the IP is really curious. I am really curious in general why people feel the need to post their rants for everyone to see. If they just wanted to write things down, they could also do that in Notepad. However, because of Shard's aggressive debating style, I am particularly curious as to why Shard posted this particular rant. His style leads me to believe he has an angle, and I would really like him to say out loud that it is not to ruin anybody's fun, not to discourage people from playing GW and/or not getting even/extracting revenge on Anet/Izzy. 145.94.74.23 19:48, 2 December 2008 (UTC)
- I write things like this so that people can better understand me, as a person. I'm dissatisfied with the state of the game; that's not a question. I advocate change, in the relevant places. But other things, rants like the one in question, things not specifically made to get anyone in particular's attention, I post on my own user space (there are a lot of pages in my user space that aren't linked to). The ones that have been made public aren't to somehow indirectly tell someone how much I hate them, but merely to make available some insight. "What's your position?" It's not a debate, it's the reference material to be called upon when there is a debate so that people won't have to ask what my position is. Of course, I can't say for sure that that was Shard's reason for making said post, but that's what I'd conjecture. Raine - talk 00:25, 3 December 2008 (UTC)
- Thanks Raine, that's an acceptable answer to me. Thank you for taking the time to answer me in a polite manner, without any passive aggressiveness as some others have done. I truly appreciate it. 145.94.74.23 08:15, 3 December 2008 (UTC)
- Personally I think Shard does it for his fans. Misery 09:18, 3 December 2008 (UTC)
- Misery, I've never seen so much ignorance and fail come from a single person. Everything you've said about me on this page is wrong. Also, I do not make rants "for my fans," I make them to make a point. Which rant are we talking about, and which IP question haven't I answered? ~Shard 03:58, 16 December 2008 (UTC)
- That conversation is like two weeks old now so zzzzz. Misery 07:35, 16 December 2008 (UTC)
- Ok, clearly you read the above very carefully, because the IP who had the unanswered question responded above. The question was from User_talk:Shard/Flaws#What_do_you_expect.3F and was about your motivation, which should be deducible from the direction of the above conversation and from the fact that you even attempted to answer it in your response to me. Thank you for the borderline personal attack by the way, I was rather hoping that comment would rile you if you ever read it, so thanks for being amusingly predictable. Now, let me explain the comment. You claim you are trying to make a point, a plausible hypothesis, now let's examine it. Who are you trying to make a point to? Clearly not the Arenanet staff, your abrasive style of communication causes them to mostly ignore you, so if that is your goal you are going about it very poorly. Perhaps members of this wiki? Well, either people here are experienced enough to already know that the balance in Guild Wars is terrible or they are Arenanet fanboys who will leap to Izzy's defence and ignore everything you say anyway. What about the new players? Could you hope to save them from their ignorance? Unlikely, new players are still at the stage where assassins and dervishes are the coolest classes ever. Updates like the last skill update make them happy because now their assassin totally pwns peoples faces in RA or sad because Aura of the Lich isn't as good for tanking in AB any more, whereas in reality the last update was probably full of the worst most broken skill changes I have ever seen where almost every change resulted in either an equally useless skill that will never see use or a stupidly overpowered skill that will be abused heavily. For new people they will fall into one of the two previous categories of Izzy fanboy or disillusioned eventually and your rants will have little effect. As such, unless you are failing horribly at your goal, I submit that you aren't trying to make a point to anyone and simply enjoy the infamy, which is why you continue to be aggressive in your criticism and highly abrasive. I submit that you are not just ranting because if that were the case you would just keep it to your user space, especially when it reaches the point of a potential arbcomm, and the steam would be let off. See I am assuming here through all of this that you don't totally fail at setting out what you are trying to achieve, by very the design of your own actions, am I incorrect in this assumption? Perhaps you wish to clarify exactly who you are trying to make a point to and what that point is? Misery 08:54, 16 December 2008 (UTC)
- your abrasive style of communication causes [arenanet] to mostly ignore you
- No, being arenanet is what causes them to ignore me. They ignore all their players equally, except white wasabi, they give him special privileges to maliciously violate the EULA.
- which is why you continue to be aggressive in your criticism
- No, my reason for being aggressively critical of people is because they're wrong and I'm telling them so.
- I wrote it for people who are interested in game design, management, or balance. Many people on the wiki want to become (or are) game designers or programmers or something along those lines. I'm giving them my angles, some of which they might not have seen. Anet already reads 0% of what the players post here, so you're right, it wasn't for them. The stuff I pm them in game is the only stuff they read, and I almost never get to do that as nobody at arenanet plays GW. It wasn't for my "fanboys." The only fanboys I have (or, the only ones I want) are the ones who like me because I know what I'm talking about. ~Shard 22:53, 16 December 2008 (UTC)
- Thank you for the clarification, it's appreciated. I'll note that in the future to get an answer from you all I have to do is be aggressive and accusatory. I do have to disagree on one point, there are two viable ways to balance a game, either have competent balancers and ignore the community completely or find the good knowledgeable people inside community and listen to their advice. Arenanet has apparently chosen the interesting option of listening to the advice of retarded people. At least this is what I can infer from recent balance updates. Now that I understand your goal I may read some of your articles again and try to apply constructive rather than destructive criticism so that upcoming game designers and balancers don't make brand new mistakes. Misery 08:12, 17 December 2008 (UTC)
- All you really have to do to get a response from me is to be more direct. I don't like bullshit and I don't like when people weave their way through a sentence, unless it's literature, in which case there's a point to it. If you need to say or ask something, just say it. I try to be thorough in responding to people. ~Shard 08:28, 17 December 2008 (UTC)

how can a warrior
- How can an elementalist *not* be retarded and just spam Flare consistently. You can't buff Flare or you will end up with Flareway. Remember what happened when they buffed Dark Pact? If a skill is vanilla it has to be weak. In any case an Eviscerate build does ~60 DPS spamming skills and maintaining Frenzy iirc and that takes half your skillbar, if you are going to make a comparison you would need to use half your skill bar to maximise the damage output of Flare (probably with 2 slots for double attunement) and take into account that Flare can't be blocked or blinded and there is no real penalty for getting interrupted because it has 0 recharge. I removed the note because it is basic maths + untrue worthless statement. --The preceding unsigned comment was added by User:Misery (talk). 16:31, 7 January 2009 (UTC)
- True that but tbh I said buff flare I never said buff the damage flare gives.Changing it to immolate would be a buff . And actually i'm just +- stating something ensign said.A warrior will do more damage and DW is not in the comparison either,Eviscerate is just one example what about Primal rage (yh I know dont compare to OP skills).Half of youre skill bar tbh Frenzy is on youre skill bar anyway and why the fuck am I saying this to you its not like you dont know it yet.
Ow comment on my balancepage Lilondra *gale* 16:35, 7 January 2009 (UTC)
- Tbh, casters just shouldn't have significant damage. Frontloading damage on to your frontline with midline filling more utility roles is an excellent mechanic and the direction they should push balance. You could rework Flare and all the spammables if you really want to, but there are SO many bad non-elites anyway. Flare is fine for low level PvE, which is where you get it. I pew pew'd those Jacarandas so hard. --The preceding unsigned comment was added by User:Misery (talk). 16:38, 7 January 2009 (UTC)
- Wow scary, for once my thought of reality doesnt get blown apart. And I know but tbh PvE shouldnt be the concern in a PvP game Lilondra *gale* 16:40, 7 January 2009 (UTC)
- It's not like we need Flare. If you can think of a utility skill for a fire elementalist that an existing underpowered/broken fire magic skill couldn't be reworked to I would be very impressed. --The preceding unsigned comment was added by User:Misery (talk). 16:43, 7 January 2009 (UTC)

- Oh I'm sorry, I should have been less ambiguous, I mean I already sold it via another channel. One of my friends found a buyer. --The preceding unsigned comment was added by User:Misery (talk). 17:46, 8 January 2009 (UTC)
- IGN: Doctor Von Klotzach, we could do the trade tomorrow if you notice the other person is on GWW. I'm not planning to login to GW for the next couple of weeks except for the necessairy trades. -- Karasu (talk) 17:42, 8 January 2009 (UTC)
- Sold ;o --The preceding unsigned comment was added by User:Misery (talk). 17:06, 8 January 2009 (UTC)
- If you're serious about merching that beauty - i'd gladly take it off you ;-) I should've 10-20 to spare. This would look nice as a 20/20 offhand or variants.
- I cba tbh, I've tried wiki talk pages and guild forum. I've stood in Kamadan once for ~15 minutes. I'll probably just take the first reasonable offer. I usually merch everything. --The preceding unsigned comment was added by User:Misery (talk). 16:20, 8 January 2009 (UTC)
- Quite possible - that's a range of prices I'm not willing to dare until my economics have settled down a bit. Celestial Compass is a very nice and wanted item. Have you tried one of the Auctions yet? I'm sure that once I can afford it - i'll find it somewhere. -- Karasu (talk) 16:16, 8 January 2009 (UTC)
- Well, I've heard it's worth ballpark 100k + x ectos. I suspect that ballpark is too big? Someone can feel free to correct me. --The preceding unsigned comment was added by User:Misery (talk). 16:01, 8 January 2009 (UTC)
- Hehe.. so did I. Wouldn't have sold it to make profit though. Would be far from fair to you. I just don't have the money to get all these things atm. I'm learning how to merch though, especially since the anti-farm code let me down miserably and I don't have access to a decent 600 or Sin atm. -- Karasu (talk) 18:15, 8 January 2009 (UTC)
- Tbh, I made all my gold using Rihlohn Refuge farming mostly. You can farm one handed while you do other things and I maxed Sunspear on the side. I stopped farming when I maxed sunspear, I go for efficiency so I won't farm again until I figure out a good one handed DoA farm for my necromancer. Misery 18:18, 8 January 2009 (UTC)
- Except for quite a few Corsairs, I don't really see much value in farming that mission =/ Necro's have a few nice farms. There are some bosses that you can cast spells on without being attacked. Bzzzr somethingwing is one of them. Build should be on PvX. -- Karasu (talk) 18:24, 8 January 2009 (UTC)
- Not the mission, there are a bunch of like 15 spiders that spawn nearby. You can farm them stupidly quickly, pick up sunspear points and the drops and rezone. I just merched it all and now I have like 350k in the bank and nothing I want to buy. Also got quite a few elite ranger tomes that I used because I am too lazy to skill cap, so now I have all ranger elites unlocked on that character. Now that's efficiecny. Misery 18:26, 8 January 2009 (UTC)

- A good theory except I type ~~~~ by reflex, which is a reflex that I do actually require on other wikis where it is against policy to not sign your comments. Sucks when you do it in a forum and everyone notices, in an email or chat window it's usually not so bad because the person has no idea what it means, you can tell them you were trying to be asian and cute. - I thought it was quite pointed actually. It was trying to suggest that you don't take the opportunity to give suggestions for a game on the internet quite a seriously as you seem to be in a light-hearted manner. You can't edit/remove other people's comments on talk pages by the way. I have re-restored it. Misery 17:02, 9 January 2009 (UTC)

I do still love ya babe just been busy with school work and the new puppy (he goes to the bathroom constantly!). Are you with Laura still or did you get over your lesbian phase and finally go out with Simon like I said you should? We should all go out for drinks and a movie anyway. Been dying to go see The Spirit. Fountain of Life 10:34, 12 January 2009 (UTC)
- Rather not get into details about my love life on teh wikiz thank you very kindly. But it does sadden me greatly that our private chat channel seems to be down at the moment. I can't go do anything without getting an internal error at the moment. Bad chat is bad. You really need to work out a better solution than that for when I am at work.
