Caveat: Updated Tournament Mechanics[edit]

Please note that if any of the following builds suggest that you:

  1. Summon spirits that used ranged attacks in the preparation area (i.e. before you go through the door to the arena proper)
  2. Interrupt Bison while he is becoming the bear

then those builds are out of date. Magni is no longer reachable before he finishes casting bear form, and any spirits cast on the far side of the door from the arena will have their attacks blocked by the door.

( I just used a run spell, and was able to hit him with YMLAD before his bear form finished. posted 3/29/08)
[I too was able to interrupt Magni's bear form with YMLAD, and I didn't even have to use a run spell 01/18/09]
[2008-10-20: I just interrupted Magni's Bear Form with distracting shot from a longbow...]
You can cast spirits inside the door and have their attacks still hit the opponent. —Cake! Ebañy Salmonderiel 15:16, 10 May 2009 (UTC)

Build suggestions[edit]

Any/Rt[edit]

I assume it'll be put up eventually, but we might as well start now. Here's a build that anyone can use as long as they've got the skills. No need for Rt primary.

Pretty easy. Start with Shadowsong. Use the rest of the spirits. Painful Bond the opponent. Run into the middle of the arena. Summon Spirits. Watch as opponent dies. Against Bison stay in the starting area, cast Pain, Soul Twisting it. Wait till Pain recharges and continue the process. Except when you notice Bison not having Blind, recast Shadowsong. Two goes through of it should kill him. Gothica 01:22, 2 September 2007 (UTC)

Will this really work for Paragon and Warrior, the energy requirements here are a bit steep.--BahamutKaiser 16:20, 2 September 2007 (UTC)
Not sure when this change happened (or it's been so since release) but the doors close after you leave the starting area, so you can't Summon Spirits (shadow step doesn't work through doors). Just tried this with my Ranger, using oath shot to recharge spirits.. got upto round 4 but not being a primary Rit my spirits are a bit fragile... Me55enger 14:29, 4 September 2007 (UTC)
Correction - I finished the tournament using this build : OggjctgqoSnNlT+gRbfTVTDgVGA. I think Razah was the most challenging as he's running a similar spirit spam build too!! Me55enger 15:30, 4 September 2007 (UTC)

Rt/any[edit]

Does anyone have some suggestions available? I built a ritualist primary, and wondered if there is a way one could use this to advantage in the Norn Fighting Tournament (rather than settling for a Rt secondary build of some sort as would be the situation in my case.) Thank you to the community for the great work and suggestions. As a noob player and new to GW's, I hope there might be a Ritualist Primary build that someone uses that they might be kindly willing to add to this page. cecil 05:48, 9 March 2009 (UTC)

There you go, a Rt/ bar with readily-available skills (not PvE-only, no elites etc.) This bar will get you through the entire tournament over and over without a problem -- but you will have to use your head. Some advice:

  • Always start by putting up Mighty Was Vorizun (extra HP and Armor).
  • Melee foe: start by body-blocking with Bloodsong and Pain, follow with Shadowsong, then the others.
  • Casters can be interrupted by Dissonance.
  • There are melee/caster hybrids, Cynn for example. You may need to adapt your tactics on them.
  • Make sure to kite at all times, don't let the opponent focus their attacks on you.
  • Careful with interrupters, start by putting up spirits with low cast time (3/4s).
  • Careful with AoE damage dealers, including trappers -- spread the spirits around.
  • Some foes take a while to wear down (Cynn, Bison etc.) -- you may have to kite, use Spirit Siphon and re-cast spirits.

As soon as you enter the fight, cast Anguished Was Lingwah. Wait until your opponent turns hostile, then cast Earthbind before entering the inner area. Wait some seconds for energy regeneration if you need to. Enter the inner area and start placing your spirits. Avoid to cast them in the same place. Cast Shadowsong first if you are facing any non-caster opponent. When the enemy approaches, use "You Move Like A Dwarf!", which will cause a 3 second knockdown and crippling. Enough time to place your spirit or even two. Move some around, drop the ashes and cast Painful Bond. The Enemy should go down quickly. If not, use Ursan Blessing and finish him off (be sure to use Ursan Blessing after placing your spirits). If facing major interrupts, use "You Move Like A Dwarf!", place one spirit, cast Painful Bond and defeat the enemy with Ursan Blessing.

It is possible to place ALL of your spirits before your enemy will move closer. Position yourself next to the inner area but do not yet enter it. Place Bloodsong, Vampirism and Shadowsong. Now enter the inner area. The door will close behind you, but your spirits will be right in the door an they will be able to attack. The drawback is, that a well-placed AoE spell may kill them befor your foe is down. I will add a screenshot to show where to position the spirits.

With this build, I have defeated any opponent, except Danika and Palawa Joko (I have not yet faced them). I do not know wether W/P/R will be able to play this build, due to their lack of energy regeneration (R probably should), perhaps there is someone who can confirm.

Paragon - Not 100% effective. Was able to beat many, but not all. Mhelno and Aargon cleaned the floor with me. Barely beat the dervish hero. Need to cast the ashes right away and recharge eng. Cast Earthbind last or it will die off before your done. Also need to wear radiant armor. After 3 tries, I didn't finish the tournament once with this build
Replace Anguished Was Lingwah with Pain. Step up right to the treshhold and cast Bloodsong, Pain, Vampirism, Earthbind. Move into the arena, and cast Shadowsong. While casting, the enemy will approach. Knock him down with "You Move Like a Dwarf!". Cast Painful Bond, the enemy should go down quickly. When facing Magni, be sure to cast Painful Bond after he used Purge Signet. Use Ursan Blessing as needed.
Worked like a charm for me. Template code(?) Oghjwggr4S+gfTlTkTnNVT2kGlA for E/Rt. Didn't work on the Glacial Griffon though. :) Mirar 06:55, 1 August 2008 (UTC)

Swordsmanship 12+1+1 (14 or higher works) Strength 12+1 (10 or higher works)

Equipment: a sword (ideally, zealous, but any will work), Stonefist insignia, at least 20 energy

Skills are listed in order of use.

The trick here is to KD-lock every enemy using the Headbutt-Steelfang-DSlash chain. Enraging Charge and "For Great Justice!" will immediately charge up your attacks (use FGJ right before your first blow connects to maximize its effectiveness). Since some enemies can blind or hex you before you get to melee range, you need YMLaD to interrupt them as soon as you get into spell range (it'll knock them down for three seconds, so don't worry about jumping the gun -- just hit it as soon as possible and they'll be down until you close with them). When you've got Flail up, you'll stop your enemies from triggering everything but 1/4-cast-time and instantaneous skills. The only time you need to change tactics is against enemies that block.

Against Magni, try to charge in as fast as possible and interrupt his Bear Form with YMLaD. Your KDs should greatly reduce his damage even in bear form. If you're low on health, snare him and kite a bit til he reverts to his weaker non-bear shape.

The build as written makes about 90% of the enemies easy kills. Use the optional slot to deal with whatever you find most troublesome. Good choices for the optional include:

  • Dolyak Signet (makes Magni and Lukas easier to tank)
  • Purge Signet (especially good if you have trouble timing your shout to interrupt hex/Blindness spammers)
  • Warrior's Cunning (for enemies that use blocking stances -- remember you can always just use YMLaD and kite until their stances wear off)
  • pretty much any defensive skill or self-heal... just don't let it distract you from the continual knockdowns

Great success using this build, thank you!
I actually only used Enraging Charge and Flail (just before first hit) to open, with YMLAD to interrupt any opening spells. Then I spammed Sneak Attack, Brawling Headbutt and Dragon Slash until Magni was beat. My warrior has 20 energy, no Zealous sword. I equipped Stonefist Insignia for the tournament. -Eerie Moss 12:25, 1 August 2008 (UTC)

This build works great. I had trouble the first few times doing the arena but the first time I used this build, noone could stand in my way. I did not manage to interrupt the bear form but by using Dolyak Signet, I still defeated him with about 15 health remaining. 207.25.23.82 21:41, 6 January 2009 (UTC)Thankful GW player

This build worked great! Finally beat it.
Victory with health to spare. However, I added Dolyak Signet to counter all of Magni's knockdowns. I also added Feel No Pain for a healing bonus and the +200...300 maximum Health if you're drunk. All went fine without Flail. Molech 21:52, 18 January 2009 (UTC)

W/any (Ursan)[edit]

The easy way to win in the Norn tourney would be Ursan Blessing. I found that I could straight forward kill all enemies (apart from Mhenlo) up till Magni. That leaves you with 7 skills you can devote to killing magni, which should be more then enough. Hint: Sneak Attack for perma blind.

Two comments: (1) does Ursan blessing work well with other primary professions, especially caster profs? And (2) while this is cool, and useful, I think people have more difficulty with Magni alone than with the 5 opponents before him... Alaris 14:32, 19 September 2007 (UTC)
  1. Idk. I heard that warriors keep their armor while in bear form, thus casters should have a disadvantage. However I beat the large majority of opponents by a huge margin, so I doubt that it will change much.
  2. True, but being able to dedicate your whole skill bar to that task should help. And you also get 100% uptime of blind out of Sneak Attack (given a half decent vanguard level), so all you need to bring is some damage and a minor self heal. --Xeeron 14:39, 19 September 2007 (UTC)
  1. I think the armor difference means you get 2x damage with 60 armor compared to 80 armor.
  2. Sneak Attack sounds pretty good, but do keep in mind that Bison carries a signet to remove conditions. Even if you re-apply every 5 secs, that can still leave a 2-3 seconds where Bison can land a hit or two, which for a caster primary can be the end. Alaris 16:30, 19 September 2007 (UTC)
According to our armor page, warriors with 80AL recieve 0.707 of the damage of casters with 60AL, so a bit less than 1/3rd less. Purge Signet has a 20 second recharge and 2 second casting time, meaning you can kite away while he uses it till your sneak attack is ready again. But in the end, it doesn't matter that much: Dislike this one? Go spirit spam. Any +4 regen class can easily do so. --Xeeron 16:48, 19 September 2007 (UTC)
Don't get me wrong. I might use that one on my Paragon. It's just that I tend to prefer guides that also tells their limitations and proper usage. It benefits users more that way. Alaris 17:57, 19 September 2007 (UTC)

I went 12 in tactics/swordsmanship, 3 in strength, and had no trouble with anyone except Alesia. Didn't even use shield bash or savage strike on Magni. Just stood in one place, spammed dolyak signet, riposte and sneak attack on recharge, and used healing signet when needed. Worked like a charm. Wilderness Survival 2

This is essentially a condition-overload build. I used a set of full Radiant armor, with a +5 energy Zealous sword. The Zealous mod is particularly important for energy management.

Before starting the fight, use Apply Poison. Once the enemy gets to you (or you get to him), activate Dolyak Signet (and Shield Stance if the enemy is an attacker), and start swinging with the Desperation/Drunken Blows. Dolyak Signet will keep you from being knocked down, as well as giving you a good dose of armor to boot. Save ViM for healing and energy gain, making sure to use it only once you've hit your opponent about 3 or 4 times. With any luck, you'll get at least 200+ health and 21 energy, which will practically refill your energy bar. Spam Ripostes against melee opponents to help kill them faster.

The only enemy I've found that gives this build problems is Kisai, due to her rampant Blind spamming. Try to use Antidote Signet judiciously to remove the Blind and get in at least one hit on her with a Blow with Poison on; ViM can then keep you alive until Kisai starts to run low on energy and can't spam Glimmering Mark anymore. Exercise some caution against Norgu as well; his Empathy will wreak havoc on you if you don't watch your health, but otherwise, all you need is to hit him once or twice and just the Poison/Bleeding do the job for you. Finally, it's a good idea to pack along a Vampiric Weapon for Mhenlo; the life-stealing along with your various conditions will bring him low quite easily. Just make sure not to attack him too often if he's got Shield of Judgment up. --Zaxares 02:36, 3 September 2007 (UTC)

This skill bar will easily win almost any opponent in the tournament.

  • Against Alesia you need to carefully use the shout to interrupt her Healing Breeze.
  • I wasn't able to win Danika as she is able to heal a lot while Brutus and Sheena pump her with energy.
  • You need to be carefull against Magni the Bison. Start with Dwarven Stability and Whirling Defense. When DS is about the end, use Lightning Reflexes. When LR is about to end run away from Magni and keep away from him until WD is ready to be used again. Then return and finish him off. Use the shout to knock Magni down to interrupt his skills when you are under 50% hp and to escape him if needed.

I haven't had the opportunity to test the build against Ghostly Hero, Headmaster Vhang, Warmaster Tydus or Palawa Joko, but none of them except for possibly Palawa Joko should cause trouble. -- Gem (gem / talk) 13:14, 6 September 2007 (UTC)

I used a build very similar to this that can definitely kill Ghostly Hero, Headmaster Vhang & Warmaster Tydus, using throw dirt + sneak attack instead of blocking skills to hinder Hagni - tempting Purge signet with Sneak attack, then Throw Dirt for longer blind. I have never found Palawa Joko either. [Kumpeet.talk.contribs] 17:31, 7 December 2007 (UTC)

A similar build, except I don't have YMLAD or DS, and I don't like Offering of Blood.

Against anybody: Use Vampiric Spirit and blocking stances to stay healthy.

Use Plague Touch to defeat condition spammers (Orion, Warmaster Tydus).

Most opponents: idle away (keep your energy high) with wand strikes / Ear Bite / Vampiric Bite for a while. When they are damaged and adrenaline is built up, use Brawling Headbutt and spam the vampiric touches for the kill.

With Bison (and Melonni in her form), it takes a couple of tries. Start with Vampiric Spirit, even if at max health, so you can survive some hits. Fight till you are hurt, KD him, then cast Vampiric Spirit and run away while you heal / your skills recharge.Hollowboy 03:37, 27 May 2009 (UTC)

R/N (pet)[edit]

I found I could handle all the opponents including Magni with a R/N Pet build. The basic idea behind the build was to use the pet as a meat shield and fire arrows at the opponent, also using Symbiotic Bond to redirect damage from the pet to you, so you can use Grenth's Balance for life stealing. I used this build to beat the tournament 6 times in a row and win the crown.

The attribues I used were : Curses 10, Beast Mastery 12, Wilderness Survival 6, Marksmanship 10.

My skills were: Symbiotic Bond, Call of Protection, Enfeeble, Kindle Arrows, Poison Tip Signet, You Move like a Dwarf, Grenth's Balance, Charm Animal (my pet was level 20).

For armour/runes, I had a mask of marksmanship +1, rune of superior marksmanship, rune of major vigor and the rest of my runes/inscriptions were for extra energy. I also used a bow of energy + 5 from Amnon Oasis.

I used the following stages to defeat every opponent, with slight variations, usually taking seconds to defeat each one.

  • As soon as the tournament door opens, target the opponent with the hash key and set pet to aggresive/fight stance in the pet bar.
  • Walk towards the opponent and activate skills in this order - Symbiotic bond, Call of protection, Enfeeble (only for warriors), YMLAD, Kindle arrows and lastly Poison tip signet.
  • Immediately shoot some arrows at the opponent, keep activating poison tip signet, YMLAD and renewing Kindle Arrows as needed, with warriors you also need to cast Enfeeble every 20 secs or so to reduce the opponent's damage.
  • Half the Pet's damage will redirect to you due to Symbiotic Bond, so when your energy drops low, click on Grenth's Balance to heal yourself and life-steal the opponent.

Notes

  • Your enemy may ignore the pet and head for you if you get too close so use YMLAD and dodge away, let the pet resume the fight and continue shooting arrows etc.
  • For the last fight with Magni, the pet usually dies before Magni is low enough health to win, so you just run around using YMLAD and Grenth's balance, maybe with a few bow shots. If you keep his health low enough for a period of time you win (he often retreats back to his corner before conceding).
  • I found Alesia and Mhleno a little hard due to their healing, so focus on YMLAD to interrupt spellcasting (knockdown effect seems to interrupt fine) you certainly need to inttrupt Mhleno as he seems to use a 55 Monk technique, so interrupting him will break his cycle of self enchanting.

Against melee - use the skill bar left to right. Move a few paces between each trap / spirit combination. If they get lucky and kill the Shadowsong quickly, use the speedboost to flee until you can start over.

Against casters or interrupt rangers - precast Nightmare Weapon. Cast Vampirism while out of interrupt range, strike with Triple Shot. Use the other skills as prudent (eg. while an interrupt ranger is using Troll Ungent, cast Bloodsong).

Versus Melonni, run until her form wears off, then kill.

Divine Favor 7+3

Smiting Prayers 11+3+1

This is a variant invincimonk build. There's no need for one to use a -50 cesta; I did just fine on 105 health. I used a staff with a +20% longer enchantments to gain extra benefit from Prot Spirit and Restful Breeze. It helped a lot with managing energy for the fight with Magni.

Before starting a battle, put Mending and Blessed Aura on you. Wait till your energy recharges, then start the match. Basically, wait till the enemy starts attacking, then use all four of your offensive skills on them in the order they appear. This generates a massive spike of around 200+ damage. Wand the enemy until the signets recharge, then spike them again. If the enemy has self-heals, use the two Strikes when they recharge to help keep their health down. Always remember to renew Prot Spirit when it's about to wear off, and use Restful Breeze to help handle heavy degen.

Enemies that give this build problems are Lo Sha, Warmaster Tydus and of course, Mhenlo. Argo can be problematic; you may have to wait until he starts running low on energy (and thus unable to use Mystic Regeneration) before you can take him out with your spike chain.

Menlo can be defeated using this build. Holy Strike and Soulstone strike deal two packets of 5 point damage to him, this with a full chain is 30 damage, leaving you to wand the guy a few times. The trick is to hit him while he doesnt have restfull breeze up. So, what your going to need to do is pelt (attack) menlo untill he activates shield of judgement, wait for it to expire, come in close and he will activate holy wrath (Divine favor healing is no longer an issue see?). Now attack him with your staff exactly three times while he is attacking you followed by your bane signant. He will fall over. Wait half a moment and immediately activate your signant of judgement (Menlo will attempt to cast restfull breeze as soon as he stands up). He will be interupted and knocked down for holy strike or soulstone strike. As soon as your stike goes off you still have to wand him once or twice before the victory will activate. It's a pain in the rear, but once you get the timing down Menlo is a breeze. Shireen 06:10, 26 March 2008 (UTC) AMENDUM: Does anyone know how to kill Bison with this build? I cant seem to dish enough damage before he regens or becomes a bear again... Shireen 07:47, 26 March 2008 (UTC)
You should be able to slowly whittle down Magni's health with the spike chain, wanding him while your signets recharge to help deal with his innate regeneration. It's slow, but Magni can't kill you as long as you remember to keep PS up. IMPORTANT NOTE: Healing Breeze might actually be a better replacement for Restful Breeze in this build now, due to its boosted duration. - Zaxares 01:59, 25 April 2008 (UTC)
This build simply does not work, there are counters to it in nearly every enemy here. and any enemy with self heals can be fully healthy again between the 20 second waiting period for the next spike. NalanaUser Nalana Darkling Blue Eye2.jpgTalk 21:52, 12 October 2008 (UTC)
With respect, it does work. I pretty much copied this and (eventually) won through. I'll concede it needed a few restarts to get a chain of 6 opponents that I was able to defeat, but I did complete the tournament. --BramStoker (talk, contribs) 23:36, 12 October 2008 (UTC)
It may well work in certain lucky scenarios, but it isn't a reliable tournament farming build. You may try this or a variant if u have a 55 and want to do that quest. NalanaUser Nalana Darkling Blue Eye2.jpgTalk 23:10, 20 October 2008 (UTC)

Blood Magic 12+3+1 Domination Magic 12

I already tried several Builds. But I had problems with the high damage of Magni and his Pure Signet. (as spiteful or as 55) So i first put Ignorance, but later Diversion, as it works also against the other guys. Signet of Midnight also worked well against many opponents. My problem was energy management if i didn't get the opponent down because of self heal...i tryed it with shadow and livebane strike, but this wasn't the best choice because of long casting time and 10energy was to much if your foe got under 50%...so i put them out and gaze of contempt in. when i used the Signet for some time, i noticed one of the "normal" gw:en skills actually could work well, the gaze. i first thought this skill would be weak. but it isnt. ~80health stealing for free if under an condition (which was the case most of the time thanks to the signet...), 1sec cast and only 5 seconds recharge. But this still didn't work fast enough, i still lost to much health...so i simply put an Arcane Echo with me. Necrosis worked good in many builds, it was part of it most of the time. Now you could spam your echoed gaze and Necrosis (cause your target is blinded). that makes nice self heal and good damage. Backfire and Empathy should be clear, good damage against casters - most of them have spells; and emphaty is also great, esecially good for the last fight. I planned to put Siphon Live in this build, but didn't finally add it.

I don't know if this build works against everyone, but i try to remember my opponents:

1. Zehtuka: Had a high degen cause of conditions from his traps (didn't take plague touch with me...but i although thought abaut it, with Signet of Agony) and emphaty didn't trigger often, but he wasn't hard to beat at all.

2. Norgu: Lost much health...he was a little tricky. Cast Backfire at him at the beginning, stop casting if he casts it on you (at this time you may use your signet) and stop attacking him (don't wand) if he casts empathy on you. i cant remember if he shattered my arcane echo. but his really annoying skill was eather feast. a bit self heal. but i got him down, though. thanks to backfire...

3. Zho: I barely squeaked through. She interrupted some of my skills, be careful of Onyx because of the Disrupting Lunge. But don't attack Onyx, attack her. I think i used the Signet on her first. Echo got interrupted, but i got her down with Emphaty, wanding and Necrosis somehow.

4. Morgahn: He couldn't do much damage blinded, and I thought I get him down fast...but there was such a stupid partian healer in public, so i didn't get him down. Nobody did much damage to the other, so i started to run around. he still got healed...i stopped spamming my spells and only renewed the signet. when my energy was full again and he was blinded, i finally "spiked" him down after several minutes with echoed gaze and necrosis.

5. Mhenlo: Push Skill Nr.3. Done. (lucky; so it should be tested if the other opponents also work...argo sucks, i took the gaze also as counter to his Mystic Regeneration. but i don't know if this is enough...)

6. Magni: Final Fight! First, use Diversion (just cast it as he is using Bear Form, then you have time enough to use empathy until he gets to you. but i'm not sure. i used the signet after that if i remember right) then hurt him as usual with echo-gaze and necrosis. but watch at the signet recharge very good in this fight! two non-blinded hits of him and you are down. so imemdialty after its recharge use it again. he will be able to hit you once. just continiue on spamming your skills, so you'll also get some heal. (don't forget to renew empathy) he'll strike you a second time, but you should have enugh health now to survive this. he striked me a third time, and i was nearly down, also started to worry abaut his pure signet again...but i only had to use the damage skills a few times, then he was down and i won.

If somebody doubts that this build can win, i can post a pic ;) now have fun winning the tournment (maybe you'll need a little luck...) as Necromancer. Or as Mesmer as well. I think this works, up to 4 more in domination magic and 4 less in blood magic...don't know if this is very bad . but you are then also able to speed up your skills a bit with fast casting, this could be a chargeback. Zerpha The Improver 00:59, 5 September 2007 (UTC)^

  • Other Opponents I've beaten: Little Thom, Melonni (try remove her enchantments), Panaku, Kahmu (also get rid of his healing skills), Gwen (i first lost against her. but this works. cast empathy at the beginning, and she'll interrupt it. then cast backfire, and she'll kill herself), Orion, Warmaster Tydus, Eve (beware of her interrupts as well), Koss, Kisai, Xandra, Lukas, Cynn, Nika.

I didn't win against Razah until yet, as his spirit spammer build is very annoying...you can take out one skill with diversion for some time, but you don't get him pulled away from his spirits. i can't make enough damage. i can only inflict conditions to me if touching a foe, which isn't very good, and if i try to use skills against him, the spirits start attacking...maybe you've got a change if you touch him at the very beginning, but i doubt it, as you've got no interrupts...) --Zerpha The Improver 10:23, 5 September 2007 (UTC)

For Magni the Bison: You need to cast Hex Breaker followed by Ignorance, Empathy, Sig of Midnight, 2,3,4 and keep Sig of Midnight up at all times and renew Mesmer Hexes to be able to use Cry of Pain.

N/Rt[edit]

If your character just isn't one that deals enough damage then consider one of the Norn blessing forms (Raven Blessing, Ursan Blessing, Volfen Blessing). If you've gone through the EOTN storyline you'll know how cheap these can be (what with the low cooldown, zero-mana/adrenaline attacks which also inflict various conditions at the same time).

I've found that summoning lots of spirits and casting Barbs on the enemy is a good way to peck away at their hp while they're focused on you. Some spirit skills include: Signet of Spirits, Call to the Spirit Realm, Vampirism, Bloodsong, Pain. Note that Signet of Spirits and Call to the Spirit Realm both summon 3 spirits each. The attack on these spirits vary approximately between 20-30 damage. With Curses at level 12, Barbs, will do 12 damage to enemies whenever they receive physical damage. Under the most ideal condition, if you executed all the summoning skills listed previously, you would have 9 spirits, each doing on average 20-25 damage (plus 12 damage from barbs) to the enemy every couple seconds. This means the enemy will be getting (180 to 225) + 108 = 288 to 333 damage every time the spirits attack (plus, Vampirism would heal you a bit with each attack)! Meanwhile you just need to make sure the enemy keeps their focus on you while you tank or run around. Realistically, you probably won't even get to summon so many spirits, but even if you had, say, Signet of Spirits and Vampirism, those two alone mean 4 spirits summoned leading to a still very reasonable 188 to 208 damage per attack.

The skill "You Move Like a Dwarf!" is also a must have for any character. Zero cast time, knocks down foes, cripples them, and deals reasonable damage. I like to start off with this, blocking the enemy from casting whatever their first spell is, which usually is some enchantment.

Here is the build I used to beat this quest:

Faintheartedness.jpg
Faintheartedness
Shadow of Fear.jpg
Shadow of Fear

N/Rt: 16 Curses (4 from equipment), 12 Communing, and remaining points can go anywhere

This build is a bit overkill as I really didn't need to use all the skills. In fact, Price of Failure, Faintheartedness, and Shadow of Fear were mostly there just to fill in the slots with something useful. If I wanted to spend more skill points + gold, I would have replaced a couple of those with more attack spirits. With this build, I have been able to get past the first 4-5 opponents without breaking a sweat, and ending many times with full hp. This is also quite an easy build to use, as there is virtually zero micromanagement involved.

For each round, I first cast "You Move Like a Dwarf!". This gives you time to setup the spirits, cast Barbs on the enemy plus any other curses, and then transform using Raven Blessing. From that point on, it was just a matter of spamming all the raven skills and almost every time, the enemy went down really fast.

Why Raven Blessing? I chose this because it gives you an innate 20-30% chance to block, the primary attack Raven Talons inflicts bleeding + crippled conditions and has 0 cooldown, Raven Shriek inflicts blindness on the enemy, and Raven Flight prevents knock-down (useful against Magni the Bison). Oh and I suppose Raven Swoop deals reasonable damage. By the way, I should also mention that transforming will negate the minus HP effects of superior runes on your equipment... so feel free to boost your skill points up before entering!

Magni the Bison has tons of hp and hits really hard, but this is preventable by using Raven Blessing for the 20-30% block, Raven Shriek to blind him, and Price of Failure for another 25% chance to miss. The idea is to setup spirits and curse him, and finish him off before the curses wear off. With my 2 spirits, they would both deal a total of about 20+16+25+16 = 77 damage per attack (with Barbs). With all your skills that prevent him from hitting you, Price of Failure will put in a nice 49 damage each time he misses (and he will miss a lot!). Vampirism will also heal you for 20 hp with each attack, so that helps you replenish your hp a little. While all this is happening, you will be spamming Raven attack skills to smack away at Magni's hp even more. If Magni hits you too much, just back off and let him chase you. Raven Talons should have him crippled so he'll just keep getting pummeled by the spirits while walking towards you slowly.

The build is pretty easy. You just cast first whatever will end the fight quickest (generally, backfire against casters, empathy against attackers) followed by Sig of midnight if needed - EXCEPT against the Bison.

When you get to the Bison, you have to cast Ignorance, Spirit of Failure, Signet of Midnight, Empathy, and then reapply with Ether Feast when needed. You MUST keep Ignorance AND Signet of Midnight on him at all times or you will die.

The build is easier if you go /E and use GoLE, but it isn't really "needed." Also, if you use GoLE, you have to decide what to take out. Shatter Enchant is the best choice since it is actually only needed against Mhenlo...you just have to play the odds that you don't have to fight him.

The build works against all EXCEPT the following: Razah - ouch - the spirit spammer build beats this like a redheaded stepchild

The main skills are all of those listed above except Diversion and Shatter Enchant. Diversion is needed against Warmaster Tydus' Troll Unguent. Diversion and Shatter Enchant are needed against Mhenlo. Everyone else can be easily killed without those two.

Untested against the following: Danika - although it should work, just Empathy her and then Backfire when she starts to lose health...should only take 10 seconds or so for her to die. You could also BF and Emp her minions first and then move on to her or Emp minions and BF Danika...either way it should work Palawa Joko - not sure how this would go down

Earth Magic: 12+3+1 Energy Storage: 12 Earth Prayers: 3

I have beaten Magni with this build. It's pretty simple: Before you enter the arena, use Earth Attunement and Elemental Attunement. Then use Kinetic Armor and Mystic Regeneration and attack your opponent. Keep spamming Obsidian Flame followed by Ebon Hawk and Stoning and he will be death in no-time:). For opponents like Mhenlo with him Protective Spirit you can use Intimidating Aura. Your energy wouldn't be a problem with the 2 attuments up and most of the time your opponents are death within 60 seconds. For Magni, you sometimes have to use your attuments again. Remember to keep Kinetic Armor up against Magni!!

I wonder how well this would work at 3 earth prayers with the two mystic regen nerfs. You'd need at least 8 earth. 65.34.193.183 04:03, 4 April 2008 (UTC)

E/Rt (Sunspear)[edit]

Here is a build that has worked for me against all opponents except Palawa Joko and sometime Danika, without fail.

Attributes: Air Magic 15 (11 +3 +1 on headgear) Energy Storage 12 (10 +2) Earth Magic 10.

Vampirism is helpful against all opponents, and pivotal in beating Mhenlo, even with a low sunspear rank.

Lightning Orb

Before the countdown reaches zero, use Glyph of Lesser Energy, then Air Attunement, Kinetic Armour and Aura of Restoration. When the round starts, move into the arena and cast Vampirism near the entrance. Keep opponents blinded at all times with Blinding Surge, use Lightning Orb and Glyph of Lesser Energy when you can, and interrupt only when necessary with Gale (otherwise exhaustion will get the better of you).

Kinetic armour will look after itself so long as you keep casting (and in any case it is only there as a belt and braces back-up).

Gale is only usually required against Healing Signet for Warriors, Troll Unguent for Rangers, Backfire for Norgu, Wanderlust (and optionally Boon of Creation) for Razah and Purge Signet for Bison himself. Against Bison, it is not easy to always interrupt Purge Signet, so reapply Blinding immediately if he succesfully casts it. If Blinding Surge is recharging at that moment, hit him with Gale to keep him quiet until you are ready. Against Mhenlo, Vampirism will do all the serious damage; all you have to do is interrupt Healing Breeze once. This will require that you preempt his action, but you will get several opportunities, and it is possible to predict. He does not deal enough damage to be a threat to you - vampirism will keep you alive, so just be patient - only one interrupt is required for him to go down.

Zho can be a little harder than most, but it is perfectly possible to keep her and Onyx Blinded while you concentrate damage on Zho; the same applies for Old Mac. Against Danika, ignore her allies and interrupt healing when you can. I cannot always beat her with this build. The same applies for Palawa Joko. --Son of Batman 11:20, 31 March 2008 (UTC)

Before combat starts use I am the strongest and wait for energy to get back up to max. Use you move like a dwarf to interrupt his bear form. Right before you get in melee go ahead and use smoke powder defense then jagged strike. Wait for him to use his signet to get rid of conditions. Right after that finishes, hit him with temple strike. During this time release your vanguard support assassin, use shadow refuge, and go ahead and knock him down again with you move like a dwarf. When temple strike gets close to halfway finished with cooldown use blinding powder, another jagged strike, and refresh I am the strongest. After that use smoke powder defense and start all over, just make sure to space out your blinds.

If anytime you feel uncomfortable with the amount of health you have hit him with you move like a dwarf and run away from him. Once you are back to full health commence round 2.

I managed to use this build to score 2 wins against Bison today (I stopped afterwards because I'd managed to get lucky and get Xandra/Kahmu on my first run and Zho spawned on my second), but it definitely needs some improvement as success is not guaranteed.

Before beginning any match, use Anthem of Flame and charge up all your adrenal skills to maximum with Signet of Aggression.

If you need healing, run to the side of the arena to catch as many spectators as you can within your aggro circle. For some odd reason, each spectator counts as an 'ally' for the purposes of Leader's Comfort, meaning that you can easily hit the 140 health limit. Against high degen, and against Magni, use "Never Surrender!" to help your regen as you kite away from your opponent.

  • Against spellcasters, reapply Anthem of Flame before starting the match and open your attack with Stunning Strike. Anthem of Flame applies the Burning condition first, which means that you'll start out with an instant-Daze on any spellcaster, giving you a tremendous advantage.
  • Against attackers, start out with Barbed Spear and follow it with Maiming Spear to ensure that they can't reach you, then keep running away from them as you pepper them with spear attacks.
  • Against Magni, start out with Stunning Strike instead. He doesn't try to remove the Dazed condition, but he WILL try to remove the Burning. Let him do so, then hit him with Barbed and Maiming Spear. You now need to be careful, playing a hit and run game with him and ensuring that you always have Barbed and Maiming ready to reapply on him if he Purges the conditions again. Whatever you do, always ensure that you have about half an aggro-circle's distance away from him, or he WILL catch you if you're not careful.
  • Tough opponents with this build include Koss and especially Lukas. These two have good healing with Healing Signet and can outlast you if you don't get lucky and hit them with Stunning Strike while they're healing. I didn't match up against Danika, but I presume that she would be extraordinarily difficult too. I didn't meet Mhenlo either, but against him, use Anthem of Flame and your degen conditions and have a Vampiric weapon handy. You should be able to wear him down eventually, especially once you get Dazed onto him.
  • Against Kisai, get Stunning Strike onto her from the start, and she will pose no problem to you. Against Gwen, cripple her as soon as you can and NEVER let her get close enough to use Signet of Midnight on you.

You need an ebon scythe for this build, preferably with a +enchant mod. This build could still use some tweaking, but can win against most opponents except Eve, and probably Gwen (didn't face her). The main idea of this build is to out-heal/damage casters and perma-blind attackers. Put up your enchants just before the start of the fight. You can leave off EDA if fighting a caster, and always keep Vital Boon on top if you need to use Rending Touch. Go in and immediately use an attack skill on an attacker to blind them, and make sure to one periodically to keep the blind up. Use Leech Sig to interrupt key skills, like self-heals. Some opponent notes:

  • Kisai: Will blind you at first, but just focus on keeping enchants 4-6 up to keep healed and she'll run out of energy to spam Glimmering Mark. Rend her attunement to speed up the process.
  • Argo: Same with Kisai. Run away when he casts Argo's Cry.
  • Melonni: Her self-heals and damage reduction will make this a long fight. Focus on keeping her blind, spacing out your attack skills so you don't get into energy trouble. Rend key enchants like Armor of Sanctity when possible.
  • Mhenlo: Keep rending/interrupting his enchants, and he'll go down.
  • Magni: Long fight due to his high health. Keep you attack skills spaced out to keep him blind and watch for his purge sig. You can use Rending Touch on your own Vital Boon to heal if needed. Use Mystic Regen only if necessary.

The main idea of build: pressing with holy damage. Most opponents can be defeated in few seconds using skills from 2 to 6 only once. However, some opponents are more hard. Advice: try to attack as fast as possible. Attack only opponents, not their pets. After using the last signet (if opponent is still not defeated), use the shout again and attack opponent with staff, until skills and +30 energy will be restored. Run around the arena avoiding melee combat.

To defeat Magni the Bison, you need to cut about 40% of his bear's health in first round, the same in second one; if he returns to normal form having less than about 30% health, you win immediately, otherwise you win in 3rd round. --Slavic 17:38, 6 January 2009 (UTC)

Edited: Reversal of Fortune is replaced with Scourge Healing, which is more effective against monks (rarely used because no effect on other professions). --Slavic 16:09, 22 January 2009 (UTC)

This may sound stupid but[edit]

moved from Talk:The Norn Fighting Tournament

I'm having a hell of a time beating Magni with my Assassin. Currently, I am using a critical defenses + critical agility + locust fury build, but it can't deflect enough attacks for me to win...any ideas? I don't want to have to buy 20 skills from other professions just to get past this. Silver40596 14:17, 12 September 2007 (UTC)

The most you'd have to buy is 8 :) Actually, I've not beaten him either (I only tried during the preview weekend), but from what I hear, the following helps: (1) interrupting his bear form, or avoiding it entirely, (2) keeping him blind within melee range and/or crippled if using ranged attacks, (3) preparing for a long fight, as he lacks self-heals but he has lots of health. Hit and run tactics might help, thus giving more time for regeneration between attacks. Sorry I can't be of more help, as I don't play assassins. Alaris 14:39, 12 September 2007 (UTC)
I've actually tried so many times to beat magni with my e/m. no luck at all since I'm not fast enough to interrupt his bear form. I'll try the hit and run tactic when I get a chance, if it works I'll let you know. Future 19:27, 12 September 2007
My EMo has never lasted more than 3 hits from Magni either... I doubt that there's a reliable build to best him. Definitely no one build that's capable of surviving all the possible opponents before meeting him and still have anything in the arsenal to take down Magni...8 skills is way too few for any profession to win everytime (even the Ritualist and 55 builds will lose frequently to a few of the possible opponents). Us Elementalist/Monks are exceptionally well suited to single combat as it is...just not against a juggernaught like Magni. I'm a pro at hit-run-hide, and he's still going to smash me everytime, unless I use a build that'll get slaughtered by the first five opponents. Nothing an elementalist (or monk) has can reliably interrupt/knockdown (for Bear Form) fast enough. The balance of the tournament relies on this need for more than 8 skills to be a surefire win. Thanks, but I figured out that assassins CAN do spirit-spam as well as any caster. It was sooo much easier after I figured that out. Plus I got Xandra and Kahmu on the same run!!! YAYYY Silver40596 19:37, 12 September 2007 (UTC)

I actually still can't complete it, not with hit and run, not with the blind skill. All I'm hoping for now is to randomly get the other guy at round 6, since I can't beat magni. Future 15:20, 13 September 2007 (UTC)

That's why you need to spirit spam. I didn't think it would work, but it did. Silver40596 21:23, 13 September 2007 (UTC)

Without spirit spam, my sin still beat Magni with the following:

Critical Agility.jpg
Shadowy Burden.jpg
Black Spider Strike.jpg
Blinding Powder.jpg
Horns of the Ox.jpg
Moebius Strike.jpg
Plague Touch.jpg
With Magni, keeping him blind as much as possible was my top priority until I could begin the HotO/Moebius chain. I didn't have Sneak Attack at the time, although it would probably work very well with enough Vanguard rank. I had to run away after he purged my starting hex, but after that, I guess I was lucky he never purged at a critical moment. --Thervold 16:44, 19 September 2007 (UTC)
I've finished the tournament a dozen or more times on my E/Mo using a dual attument air spike build with blinding flash. You can outdamage the casters and keep the melee characters blinded. For bison, open with blinding flash, which he will then purge, reblind as soon as flash recharges (4 seconds). Flash once more after it recharges. Count off about 10 seconds, reblind, let him purge it off (purge signet is a 20 second recharge), reblind. Spam air spells (I used lightning orb, lightning hammer, and lightning strike) in between blinding, and maintain both attuments and aura of resto. The spare slot (if you're counting) I usually use for enchant removal as you can't out damage healing breeze on a 55 if you get Menhlo. Lojiin 06:16, 14 September 2007 (UTC)
This would work well enough if you are lucky emough to not get Norgu, Tydus, Cynn, Eve, Gwen, Khamu, Tydus...or at least get them when they're haviong an off day :) It's far from invincible, but a great contender! Gwynna Vive 01:15, 15 September 2007 (UTC)
Hmm, actually, I've beaten all of those with this build. Khamu and Tydus are easy when they're blind. The healing you get from spamming air spells is more than sufficient. Cynn you can outdamage and she'll run across the arena and by the time she does you can have her half dead. Gwen is a bit touch and go but I've yet to lose to her, there's alot more timing involved though. Eve and Norgu, again, you can outdamage. Lightning hammer is 25 energy so multiplied by 400% or just under from aura of resto provides quite a heal :) Lojiin 01:50, 15 September 2007 (UTC)

I just beat the tournament using a similar build: Lightning Javelin, Lightning Orb, Lightning Hammer, You Move Like a Dwarf, Blind, Ether Prodigy, Aura of Restoration, and Air Attunement. Mhenlo and Argo were the only opponents I couldn't kill with this build; I think if you get them you're pretty much screwed, but I'm not sure what could be cut for enchantment removal. Magni was easy--I just kited him with YMLAD.

It should be possible to keep him crippled with Raven Talons and damage him with Raven Swoop. -- Gordon Ecker 06:21, 14 September 2007 (UTC)
Purge Signet has a cast time of 2, so you should be able to consistently interrupt it with one of the Domination signets (which have the same 20-second recharge), too. — 130.58 (talk) 13:59, 14 September 2007 (UTC)
I would highly suggestion no blocking skills, that critical defense thing isn't going to save you, Irresistable blow will hit you and knock you down for around 180 damage, making a mockery of your blocking, and the knockdown may shut down your defense, you want to stick with blind. Also, if you can fit it in your build, YMLAD is a great instantanious knockdown and cripple, serving as an interrupt and heavily impeading the foe. Good blinding options are Sneak Attack and Signet of Midnight if you have them, otherwise, you could consider using the ever popular Deadly Paradox advantage and try to keep him crippled, but I don't know how well that will work since casting spells at half range can be pretty close.
I would also suggest Ebon Dust Aura, I suppose it can be used from a secondary profession standpoint and offers certain blindness, with a good assassin combo you can mix in disruption, bleeding and deepwound to ensure that they foe will take lots of damage wile putting down blind by the second, but this will require an ebon weapon as well.--BahamutKaiser 15:34, 1 October 2007 (UTC)

Paragon[edit]

We still need a viable build for the Paragon. Any offers? Alaris 14:48, 6 September 2007 (UTC)

I'm surprised we got builds for everything else, it isn't like it was hard to develop solo builds for independant professions, Paragon is the only profession in the game with a serious disadvantge to solo play. If someone could simply design a powerful warrior secondary only solo build it would be useable with paragon as well, but without highly effective energy management options, spells are out of the question, a strong yet cheap assassin build might be enough, or maybe a well developed title track skill set will do the trick, unfortunately almost all of this requires effective use of secondaries, of which I haven't explored much on paragon, and having a paragon/secondary build will cost me time just to set up.--BahamutKaiser 16:22, 6 September 2007 (UTC)

Ele/Any[edit]

moved from Talk:The Norn Fighting Tournament

Hi, great build posting btw, although we could do with one for an ele!

I've had pretty good luck with an air elementist. Dual Attunments, Hammer and Orb, Aura of Restoration, Blinding Flash, Shell Shock and an interrupt skill, perferably "You Move Like a Dwarf".
It has some trouble opponents, Mhenlo is the only one that actually beat me unless I failed to utilize my skills. Enchantments up and slap the foe with Shell Shock and YMLAD at the same time, this will put any melee or touch ranged opponent in a bind, immediately apply blind after that if they have physical attacks, than just pump Hammer, Orb, Flash, with a shell shock in between every few to reapply Cracked Armor or if your waiting for Hammer and Orb to recharge (not likely).
Against Bison it is the same thing, the big trick is to use YMLAD to keep him from using purge signet, or to stop him momentarily so you have time to reblind him if you arn't fast enough. As long as you don't abuse YMLAD when you don't need it (because it will suck up energy) and you reapply your enchantments before they run out, you will be able to crush nearly anything.
"Hammer Time!!!"--BahamutKaiser 02:56, 22 October 2007 (UTC)
You could also try a spirit spamming build. Something like this is ideal for a cruise build; Elementalists have lots of energy, so 25 energy spirits are nothing. Just summon a few spirits, throw painful bond on the target, and win in 3 seconds :) -Auron 03:03, 22 October 2007 (UTC)
I believe the spirit secondary option was the first topic added, the title Elementalist/Any means it will work with elementalist skills available even if none other are, thus, those who most likely didn't change to ritualist secondary and buy up 8 skills just to play a tournament will find a build using mostly elementist skills easier to access.--BahamutKaiser 05:40, 22 October 2007 (UTC)

If you don't have YMLAD then Gale works just fine.

Build Execution: Start every round by casting Fire Attunement. Then cast Glyph of Sacrifice and charge the target. If the target is a caster cast Meteor Shower as soon as they stop to cast. If Melee wait till they touch you to cast it. Once it is cast follow the skill chain down to inferno. In most cases the target will be dead before inferno. If not just let it finish. If for some reason the attacker is able to hit you enough for your health to be low cast Mist Form. Shadow form can be replaced but only use it if necessary as it causes major health loss at end. Again post any modifications for greater effectiveness against Bison or just a build upgrade.

I just tried the original version of this build. As stated it excels at dealing damage quickly enough to defeat most foes; Norgu and Warmaster Tydus are troublesome though. However it fails once you get to Magni. I tried replacing Mist Form with Aura of Restoration but that didn't work. I read elsewhere that someone used "You Move Like a Dwarf!" (on a different profession) but Tydus killed me before I could get to Magni. Trying to stay away from Magni until his Bear Form lapses hasn't worked either. -- Sabardeyn 10:00, 14 March 2008 (UTC)

Couldn't you just remove Lava Font and put in a quick KD such as Shock to interrupt Bear Form? Sicne it has a 2 second cast time, it seems that this would work. And since Shock isn't elite, it wouldn't be removing too much...spec a few points into Air Magic and you have a decent build. --Lurio Mystras | talk 02:16, 26 June 2008 (UTC)
~I havent tried the builds above, but I have experiance with using the 600 builds, as well as using a Terra Tank build, and a typical ele Feather Farm build, and thinking ahead to the fact Magni hits really hard, and some of your opponants may, too, I thought up my own build to use. I ended up putting a mix of a typical 600 build, and the terra tank build...here's what I used:

The only problem I had while using this build was when I went up against Old Mac and Joe, with Joe using Broad Head Arrow, and Razah with his many spirits, expecially after the rit buff update. Wanderlust is a pain. To defeat Razah, stand back to the door to cast the summon ruby djinn, and any protective spells, and strife back and forth, when his spirits attack you. Do the same, as needed, with Joe.
I havent used this build up against all the enemies yet, but I'm fairly sure that if you dont get interrupted or Dazed, this build should work wonders on most of them. Magni was no problem with this build.

A veriant to this build, if you think you may need more healing,

These builds are mostly self explanitory, but, your main attacks are simply using Glyph of Renewal, then Sin support x2, and summon your ruby djinn, either before just after you go through the door. you can cast before you go through the door, but there's a chance your djinn may get stuck behind the door when it closes, and will be useless to you durring that battle, so it's best to use it after you go through the door. Add Pain Inverter, when the target enemy has begun causing damage. this is especially useful on AoE casters, like Cynn.

I've managed to win twice in a row now with this build. For most opponents, just going down the list from left to right works well and defeats them in a few seconds with no damage to yourself. If they get too close, knock them down with YMLAD.

The only two it's really proven hit-or-miss against are Alesia and Mehnlo - but seems to work well enough if you time the interrupt right.

For Bison: I beat him once interrupting his Bear form, once without. The trick seems to be knocking him down, spawning your assassin, and then blinding him before he gets his first blow in. This gives you some breathing room and makes the assassin actually get some hits in. Beyon that, just maintain Elemental Attunement and use the Glyph of Lesser energy when you have time for it. Then repeat the process once the Assassin skill recharges. I'd love to see more suggestions to tune this using skills from the Core/EOTN skill set. Flippout 01:52, 18 January 2010 (UTC)

Usage[edit]

  • for most fights open with YMLaD (7) then use skills 1,2,3 wait for enemy to be below 50% then "finish him" (6). for specific difficulties see notes below
  • For Magani keep faithful intervention up at all times let him hit you, yes i said let him hit you, then YMLaD (7) back off and use Grenth's balance (5) When Grenth's balance stops doing damage/healing use finish him(6) and spam attack skills if he knocks you down knock him down back with YMLaD (7). You should Win

If you dont have Finish him yet because you haven't finished the tourney you may want to win once with a diff build or find a good replacement i will try to find one.

*An Enchantment Removal from either dervish or necromancer lines is a viable option especially since that would stop most enemies that trouble this build from healing such as Alesia Argo and Headmaster Vhang

  • Warmaster Tydus
  • Xandra
  • Zho and Onyx

I have yet to be Defeated with this build so it can be noted those not on the list have been lucky enough not to face my power

Notes[edit]

  • Be Sure that the opponent is below 50% before using "finish Him" otherwise they may be difficult to defeat
  • Devona read previous note very very carefully
  • Argo energy must be warn down so he cannot use Mystic Regeneration to do this stand in aggro range cast faithful intervention on its recharge and cast Heart of holy flame then remoe it with signet of pious light avoid standing in his AoE attacks and interrupt stone daggers with YMLaD whenever you can or dodge them if you can. i have beaten him 8 times so its not impossible
  • Alesia wait for her to use Healing Breeze then use YMLaD to interupt
  • Headmaster Vhang can but wont often out heal availability of "Finish Him"
  • Cynn unless when entering you interrupt her Glyph of Restoration you Must wait until you do before trying to attack
  • watch out for the Danika Brutus and Sheena team if encountered i suggest either killing the Wallows then Danika or Hope the Wallows dont do to much. I haven't gone up against them with this build so strategy is unknown
  • Mhenlo might be a problem as it can be hard to interupt his healing and even if you do without the spamming of Pious assault from my old build(see below) it may now be impossible i have just been lucky enough not to have had to fight Mhenlo with my new build. *if you can get him below 50% the deep wound from "Finish Him" might be enough to make him give up
  • I assume Kahmu, Sogolon, or Nika would be esily defeated
  • Palwa Joko i have no clue

This build works for all primary proffessions. Wait till the timer end and the gate opens. Stand between the 2 lines in frond of you and cast the spirits. Now step into the arena (the foe will attack you now) and cast Painful bond. See your target die in approx 4-8 seconds. If you get Argo it will take a longer time since hes a terra tank. At Magni the bison it could be that he not directly die from the first spirit wave and kills a few. Just run around and make sure he doesn't attack you. Randomly cast spirits so all spirits keep up and attack him. Also make sure Painful bond stays active. It takes around 15-18 seconds to kill Magni. This build works also 100% vs the Glacial Gryphon if you cast Dissoance (so he can't cast his own spells) just before he turns hostile and the spirits are directly in his range (so walk a few steps to the center of the arena before casting). 100% also cast Signet of Ghostly Might on aguist cause those dmg will aslo be doubled vs hexed foes.Robertjanvaneijk1988 12:26, 26 June 2008 (UTC)

Someone want to explain how this build is supposed to work for Warrior primaries? Our Mana pool is too small to create all those spirits.
Ritualists don't have any mana either, they have energy :P Anyway, get full radiant armor of attunement. Paddymew 08:16, 22 November 2009 (UTC)

I used this skills, and until now... No-one has stopped me. Monks goes down in 10-20 sec after the countdown, Cynn, mesmer in just 5 sec!!! Bison in around half minute, so the complete tournament was around 2-3 minutes (Not counting loading screen of course)

My Skills

  • 16 Fire Magic,
  • 13 Energy Restoration
  • Mystic Regeneration
  • Rank 8 Ursan

My Runes & Equipment

  • Superior Vigor
  • Droknar's Fire Staff

Usage Against Warrior, Rangers, Assasin, Ele
After the loadingscreen, immediately activate Fire Attunement and Conjure Flame. Then, activate Aura of Restoration. Wait till the target comes, immediately activate the chain Searing Flame, Liquid Flame then again Searing Flame. This should do some great damage. Finish them off by Searing flame, Normal fire attack ("You Move like a dwarf" if you still has decent energy left) and Searing Flame.

Usage Against Monk, Dervish, Mesmer, Necromancer, Paragon and Ritualist
Since those foes does health degeneration or HP Regeneration, You will do Meteor Shower first prior the first time Searing Flame. After the first time Searing Flame, do "You Move like a dwarf" first so they will be knocked down again! Use Liquid Flame and Searing Flame now. This will make sure they keep degenerating, while you prevent they walk away from the meteor shower after stand up and also preventing them from using healing skills between the 2 meteors. Finish him off with Normal attack and/or Searing Flame would be enough.

Usage Against Magni The Bison
Since he is powerful in attack, you must make sure he is off you a distance. Start with Fire Attunement and Conjure Flame before the countdown goes to 0. Immediately rush outside and shout "You move like a dwarf " to prevente Magni in bear form. Then use Searing Flame or Liquid Flame while you keep distance with him. Keep running, and use the skill "You move like a dwarf ", so he is crippled. If your norn rank is lvl 8, the cripple time would be longer then recharge time, so with this norn skill, you can keep him from you forever. Finish him off with normal fire attack. (If you did the champions modus, Use Finish him in the end since you can do it much faster. Conget 20:00, 28 July 2008 (UTC)

Comment on the above:
I used Conget's build above and it worked. But I had some fierce energy management issues a couple of times when the foe didn't go down in the first wave of attacks. Here's my suggested improvement. I tested it several times and all opponents were very easy (r3 Norn title track). Skill text: [;OgBCoMzktAuAtgvAdzYlNJwA] Shihab Ashald 02:15, 22 March 2009 (UTC)

W/Rt Magni Owner[edit]

I've just defeated Magni with my build. It's similar to the spirit spammer. None Shall Pass!,Brawling Headbutt,Pain,Shadowsong,Vampirism,Painful Bond,Sprint,Vanguard Assassin Support. You should use a high energy staff(I used good ol' Mindclouder). When the figt begins stand on the outter metal line (there r 2 in the door that go down when the fight starts).Lay the spirits, put Painful Bond on the opponent. If your opponent is too curious and starts running to u before spirits are finished give 'em sin support or None Shall Pass!.You gotta watch out with Razah as he is a spirit spammer himself. When the fight starts use sprint and run to him.Launch sin support,Pain,Vampirism and PB.He should go with no problem. When you fight Magni lay the spirits.Dont worry bout Ursan-it won't help him much. When u lay the spirits give Magni NSP! and sin support.Keep wading him and using NSP so he doesnt come near the spirits.Shadowsong will expire before Magni falls-don't worry!Jus keep wanding him,sue sin support when possible. He shouldn't go near the spirits. He falls quickly.Energy is not a problem when using this build.Watch out for Cynn and Orion.Orion casts Fire Storm and Cynn goes near ur spirits with Double Dragon and such.Use NSP! on Cynn and probably start the fight with Orion with sin support or dodging his FS.Brawling Headbutt is to knock donw ur foes when u can(its not possible too often since it charges for a bit of time-I used it once on Magni when he was goin close to my spirits).Sprin is useful for gettin to ur foe quickly, especially Razah.I didin't beat all of the opponents with this build(because I didin't encounter all of em :P).It did kill:Magni,Kisai,Cynn,Razah,Xandra,Melonni,Devona,Lo Sha,Sogolon.Hope this lil' guide helps all those desperate warriors who don't have Ursan ;) --Monolito 22:11, 18 September 2008 (UTC)

No problems, did him in the first run. Targets are Weakend, Knocked Down and Blind. You have an additional Armor of 82.

While waiting activate Aura of Restoration, Earth Attunement and Kinetic Armor. After the door opens spam Ebon Hawk, Stoning, Unsteady Ground and Eruption. Use Glowstone for Energy Management.

I suggest having a strength headpiece, a superior strength rune and a minor weapon rune

Use YMLaD then Warrior's Endurance and Dolyak Signet and start attacking, using sin support then YMLaD when you have 20 energy. Use Necrosis and Watch Yourself! as often as possible and Lion's Comfort to heal.

Against Magni, interrupt Bear Form with YMLaD and then Warrior's Endurance and Dolyak Signet. Use Wary Stance to recover energy and block attacks. Use sin support before YMLaD to let the sin do the combo.

This build can kill most casters, rangers, and some heavy fighters within seconds and most others with ease. Only hard one was Alesia.

So far has worked 100% of time.

Painful Bond.jpgSpirit Siphon.jpgBloodsong.jpgPain.jpgVampirism.jpgWanderlust.jpgSpiritleech Aura.jpgSummon Spirits.jpg

  • All ritualist attributes 9 (Can be done before level 20), runes don't matter but I had +1+1 communing (+1 rune, + 1 headgear).
  • Walk up to the door and cast each spirit in turn, casting Spirit Siphon in between them. When the door opens, walk into and stand in the door and cast Summon Spirits. Wait until it recharges, then walk forward just beyond the door and cast Summon Spirits again, before the door closes. More experienced players can just run past the door and cast Summon Spirits before the door closes.
  • When you have summoned your spirits beyond the door, your opponent will come rushing towards you. Cast Spiritleech Aura and then Painful Bond once the opponent comes within range of your spirits. Any caster opponent will be interrupted by Wanderlust (which heals itself to be able to KD more), and melee opponents will rush in, getting knocked down before they can kill the spirits.
  • This should kill any opponent during the first five rounds in a matter of seconds (haven't gone against Palawa Joko or Danika yet, so I don't know about them).
  • When fighting Magni, just let the spirits KD and damage him. He will use Purge Signet to remove your Painful Bond, something that your Wanderlust might interrupt. Even if it doesn't interrupt it, it slows Magni down. Always stay out of Magni's reach, and if he is killing your spirits, just cast Summon Spirits to heal them and gain ground on Magni. Your spirits will do the tanking for you, since Magni hits for several hundreds of damage with each attack. You can also just Summon Spirits whenever he gets close to them.
  • You may need to recast spirits sometimes, especially Shadowsong if you are using it. Always Summon Spirits out of Argo's Sandstorm and away from The Great Zehtuka when he uses Whirling Defense.
  • Note: If you are having a hard time avoiding Magni's attacks, take Shadowsong instead of Pain.

Skill Template Code: None are My Equal: OgGjQpVK7SGGlizFEGDG8FzXvXA

  • Heres the Method.

I used this build for the the Norn Fighting Tournament as a Dervish/Warrior I found it most effective, and very simple to use. the only thing you need worry about keeping up is Avatar of Dwayna then remember to keep Riposte , Deadly Riposte up use Bonetti's Defense if you need energy! and spam you're other attacks whenever their up. there are a couple of fights that take a bit of time Melonni & Devona but eventuall they do fall. Norgu can be a bit annoying his fight can easily go either way. Alesia on the other hand can always be a pain, likely a skill breaker build would be best for her unfortunatly that would greatly weaken you when fighting agains Magni the Bison specifically with him you want to keep you're Riposte , Deadly Riposte up as much as possible and keep casting Meditation when ever it is up as Magni hits hard. A good idea for any of the fights is to keep you're Defenses up and let your opponents defeat themselves. this works especially well for Mhenlo as he's a 55 monk he litrally defeats himself in 2-3 hits. if anyone has any questions or sugestions please feel free to contact me ingame. good luck and happy Skull bashing.

Attributes: 16 Channeling 9 spawning 9 communing.(this doesn't matter though, can change them to however you want, just how I have them)

Start off by casting Boon of creation, and then start with whatever spirits you want, best to leave Signet of spirits for the last cast though. Cast painful bond once you have all your spirits up, and watch them die. Kite when needed. With Magni the Bison, wait for him to use Blessed Signet to remove blind from shadowsong, and then cast painful bond, or he'll remove it. 24.233.254.51 19:44, 16 September 2009 (UTC)

I've had success with a similar E/Rt (Though E is unnecessary, could be done by any profession). SoS, Vampirism, Bloodsong, Pain, Shadowsong, Armor of Unfeeling, Spiritleech Aura, Mend Body & Soul. 8+1 Energy Storage, 8 Communing, 10 Restoration, 10 Chaneeling. The Energy Storage can be put anywhere else really - it only needs 50 energy if you use every spirit, but against caster opponents Shadowsong is unnecessary. Vs Mhenlo's 55 monk simply SoS then Spiritleech. Bobius 21:36, 6 January 2011 (UTC)

Mo / N Non-PvE skills[edit]

if you don't have the other pve skills yet because you just started EotN and want to get finish him for DSC-ing, this build works... OwQUcCH/WoNFEUCOx6DRqH7OACA it's basically keeping Shield of Regen active and smiting the enemy to death with signets. a bit clumsy and not much damage output, but since you're invincible you've got all the time you need. Start a fight by using Blessed Aura and vs. hard-hitting enemies Prot Spirit, then walk right up to them and hit balthazar's aura, KD them with bane signet, holy-strike them and finish with castagation signet. this brings most enemies down to a low lvl of health, so you can just cast holy strike again, or use balthazar's aura if you have the energy(and hit castagation signet when he was attacking). at magni, make sure to keep PS up at all times and shield of regen as much as needed ( i kept it up 24/7 just to be safe) and spam signets + holy strike, you probably won't have the energy for another Balthazar's aura because of the high cost of PS +SoR. it worked for me on the 3rd try, don't know if it has any enemies that can't be defeated... maybe razah if he doesn't die fast enough, i didn't face him.

For Warrior: The only real way to beat Magni as a warrior is to beat him at his own game. This build keeps it simple OQMT0w4OXywqsYsIxZXEk4kItAA I use this with the skull crusher and easily beat him, even did a little token farming.

Any/Rt No Elite or EotN Skills Needed[edit]

Pretty much for the character still new to GW:EN which Gunnar's Hold is their 3rd Place of rest. You wont need to waste zcoins on a rit elite, just a few measly platinum and 1-2 Hero skill point(s), one for Vampirism the other for Anguish (if you dont plan on buying it from a skill trainer). I find it silly to have builds that require the use of something like YMLAD or Finish Him! for a solo quest that is quite early in the introduction of the EotN content, especially if you're low on options for different heroes on a new character and want a beautiful rit or a manly man dervish to add to your ranks.

12Channeling -- 12Communing -- Any Rank in Sunspear/Faction, albeit lower Sunspear is lower damage is slower kills.

Gear:Any +10 Nrg Staff, runes of attunement + radiant insignias [armor mods arnt needed, but you'll have to wait longer in between using skills]. Max Armor

Use: After loading screen cast the three longest lasting spirits and wait for energy regen to almost full (you can, during this time, walk to the middle of the doorway) cast Anguish, Summon spirits (alternatively you can summon all your spirits on the doorway for garunteed spirit attacks, but you'll have to wait longer for regen. The former is just quicker). If physical opponent you can cast Shadowsong almost immediately. If a scary caster ,i.e. Argo, use Dissonance after little regen. Walk forward till your out of the doorway, if your spirits arnt midway through the door you should cast summon before the door closes, wait for opponent to get in range, attack and profit. You can use painful bond for faster kills.

Enemy Notes-
Mhenlo - pretty much only needs bloodsong cause its lifesteal, but still summon other spirits.
The Great Zehtuka - Uses Whirling Defense when he gets close, so run from him and use summon spirits so they dont die.
Argo - (Dissonance should be up) If he gets Stoneflesh Aura off, have no fear, just let your spirits keep attacking and use summon spirits accordingly.
Razah - You'll have to engage him and bring your spirits a bit closer.
Magni the Bison - Let Shadowsong attack so he wastes his Purge Signet, then cast Painful Bond. If he hits Shadowsong through the Blinds, use summon spirits when you see fit while kiting him if he turns to you, and get shadowsong back up asap.

would be helpful to know what level gw:eotn level builds are running at for asura, norn, or ebon vanguard levels / sunspear[edit]

For those that have posted this already, or information is old (and wasn't posted) please disregard, but if I'm at level 3 Ebon Vanguard and someone else is maxed, or higher than me - is the build still going to work for me? ty cecil 11:54, 31 July 2010 (UTC)

EVAS is mostly for the knock down + distraction (of it not being you that the target is attacking). Sneak attack builds need a higher rank to spam blind to keep magni covered. Other ebon skills aren't really used here. Pain inverter would want a rank of about 4+. YMLAD! is just for the knock down & cripple so rank doesn't matter. Vampirism overtakes the damage of a regular spirit at about 7 sunspear ( easily obtained). The rest of the pve skils aren't really used here. --File:User Chieftain Alex Chieftain Signature.pngChieftain Alex 13:33, 31 July 2010 (UTC)

E/D build[edit]

I found this build extremely effective. I beat the whole tournament in under 5 minutes. Even Magni was easy with this.

I don't know how to do those skillbar thingies so I'll just post the skills:

1. Mind Blast 2. Immolate 3. YMLAD 4. Ebon Vanguard Assassin 5. Ebon Vanguard Sniper 6.Fire Attunement 7. Glyph of Lesser Energy 8. Mystic Regen (I actually didn't need this even once so might be unnecessary).

Precast Attunement and when the round begins spam Assassin + Sniper and then your Fire spells until target is dead. Use YMLAD as interrupt. Against Magni, same tactic. Try to interrupt Bear Form but if you don't succeed, don't worry, He'll die quick enough anyway (First time I beat im I didn't rupt Bear Form so it's no big deal). --Piippo 16:49, 13 October 2010 (UTC)

I managed to defeat Magni after the 2nd attempt with this particular Necromancer build below (but after many, many attempts with other skill permutations!). It is a slight variant of the one above from Blamelance, to whom I give alot of credit for helping me get through the Norn Tournament. The only way to have a chance against Magni is to spam YMLAD until he comes out of bear form, and keep your distance from him...he has a long reach. I had 15 Death, 9 Soul Reaping & 9 Curses.
